After receiving feedback from many of internal teams that a legacy data platform was no longer supporting the needs of modern trials, one leading global pharmaceutical company decided to seek more specific feedback in order to address concerns, be future ready for higher volume and velocity data and move forward with selecting a new and better data repository and analytics solution.

The company deployed a multi-pronged initiative to gain insights from the widest possible sampling of its platform users. This included a mix of one-on-one interviews with more than 30 users representing varied types of stakeholders from all over the world. They supplemented this with an email survey seeking broader feedback from more than 100 additional users. Questions sought users’ thoughts on the existing platform as well as asking for what kinds of features they would like in a “perfect” solution.

The team then created a list of user personas which included research scientists, data curators, medical data reviewers, data conversion experts and data analysts. User journey maps were then created for each persona with survey data used to create models for ideal user experiences.
