Byron Writers Festival 2016: Where Stories Take You... This milestone year is our 20th Anniversary and we are proud to present a stellar line-up of more than 150 writers and thinkers converging on Byron Bay - our iconic coastal town that every August hosts Australia’s largest regional writers’ festival. The Festival continues to explore the importance and power of literature and debate in shaping our lives. It facilitates the allimportant and age-old art of storytelling and nurtures the many benefits that flow from tales and talking about life. Renowned for its sense of community and treasured by those who attend, the power of Byron Writers Festival lies in the evocative expression of real and imagined stories that strike chords and captivate because they are authentic, and told by exceptional thinkers, writers and communicators. This year, photographers, architects, artists, gardeners, philosophers join our more traditional storytellers to explore the myriad forms that stories take. Neurologist and author Oliver Sacks, described as ‘The Poet Laureate of Medicine’ died shortly after our 2015 Festival. Soon after Knopf published a striking and simple collection of four of his final essays entitled Gratitude in which he writes: I have read and traveled and thought and listened. I have had an intercourse with the world, the special intercourse of writers and readers. This reflection captures Chris Hanley’s quintessential motivation in founding Byron Writers Festival - Australia’s first regional writers’ festival - 20 years ago. You are warmly invited to join us and discover where the 2016 Festival stories will take you. Edwina Johnson, Director

Get to Byron Writers Festival quicker.
Director of the Australian Writers’ Network IRINA DUNN has guided hundreds of manuscripts, both fiction and non-fiction, from rough draft to final polished work and on to publication. Irina is constructive, efficient and immensely knowledgeable about the writing industry. She provided a Manuscript Assessment Report, and a page-by-page analysis, and then did a copy edit. Finally, she helped me secure a two-book contract with a commercial publisher. I completely trust her judgement and my only regret is that I didn’t consult Irina sooner.
