ALTERNATIVE LEARNING DAY

I write this from school whilst the students are out enjoying their Alternative Learning Day with trips to the Docklands Museum, Hampton Court, Science Museum, Natural History Museum, Wembley Stadium, Kingston University and the residential to Berlin! I know that much fun will be had on these trips and the experiences will last with the students for years to come Please see a selection of photos from their adventures and keep an eye on social media for more. I need to thank our amazing staff for the organisation and planning that goes into over

NEW STAFF

At the start of this term we welcomed our new staff Mr Caven, Miss Siragusano and Miss Timoney who have settled in very well and are forming great relationships with our students, families and staff.

TEACHING AND LEARNING

Many activities in and outside of the classroom have happened so far this term, our teaching and learning focus has been on students completing high quality independent work in silence following excellent modelling and demonstration by our teaching staff. I have seen a marked improvement in this when I do my daily walkarounds We have been lucky enough to have the Director for Education from Achieving for Children visit us this week and she was very impressed with what she saw “The lessons we visited were calm and purposeful, with pupils in class learning, and the environment showed lots of investment ”

YEAR 11

Our Year 11’s have had a busy few weeks, they received their mock exam results, some huge successes, some realisations but a large amount of motivation from Ms Jacob’ and Mr Power’s assembly. Students who made significant progress from their Year 10 mocks were awarded gold and silver ties

Silver Ties

Miguel M, Ollie C, Zack J, Jakob K, Charlie E, Alfie K, Hamta H and Yuichi A

They are in school today, having slightly less fun than the other year groups but receiving some excellent revision sessions on Maths, English and Science ahead of their next set of Mock exams on the 9th February Many of the Year 11’s have their practical Catering exam next week, so I will look forward to sampling some of their culinary delights.

PARENTS EVENING

We had a very successful Year 7 Parents Evening, with many parents leaving with smiles on their faces after hearing the great feedback from the teachers - long may that continue!

SPORTING SUCCESS

Our sporting successes continue this term and this week saw the Year 8 girls get through to the London Youth Games to represent Kingston in Indoor Athletics which is an awesome achievement - great work girls!

MENTAL HEALTH AMBASSADORS

Our Mental Health Ambassadors went to WellFest at Southborough School this week where they have come back with ideas of activities and support that we can offer students here at Chessington. Mrs Jackson meets with them regularly to hear their views and how we can continue to improve our provision

SIXTH FORM

Our Sixth formers have enjoyed some team building activities following their formal examinations at the start of the term. Mr Davey braved laser quest and also the Pop Play experience in Kingston, fantastic to have the enjoyment after the exams but now back to the work Year 12&13

Two more weeks of brilliant opportunities for our students before half term break. Please do reach out with any questions or feedback, I am always keen to hear from parents

Best wishes,

Star Learners
