Covenant Youth of Alaska Special Edition: Covenant Bible Camp Update
Volume 15, Issue 4 July 2019
Covenant Bible Camp 2019! Greetings! My name is Marc Lantz and I bring this update to you following my first season serving as Camp Co-director. The ministry that takes place on the North River, outside of Unalakleet, is special in so many ways. The walls of our dining hall (“The Temple”) remind us that we are a part of something bigger than ourselves. On your first visit to camp, you are invited to sign your name on the walls surrounding our meal tables. Additionally, camp T-Shirts hang from the rafters reminding us of the multitude who have come before us to worship, to heal, and to strengthen their faith. In a world that elevates individualism, we find respite in being reminded of the importance of “sticking together” in Christian fellowship. Our camp theme was “Subsist: Finding Life in Christ”. As I reflect on my time at camp, I think of the parable of the sower (Matt. 13:1-24). I invite you to praise God with me for those who decided to follow Jesus for the very first time this summer. Eternal life abounds and the power of the
Gospel of Christ has taken root. Please pray with me that the “soil” of their hearts is rich and welcomes the Word of God. May all our campers and staff find courage to stay faithful to Christ even when the worries and troubles of life threaten our growth. Pray for the spiritual harvest to not only sustain us, but to spread into our villages and communities. Camp ministry alone cannot sustain any of us, so we all need ongoing discipleship. The challenge of isolation in a vast geography is big, but our God is bigger still. He taught us to “stick together” and bear one another’s burdens. Even greater than the names on the “Temple” walls are the names of those who partner with Covenant Youth of Alaska and the ministry of Covenant Bible Camp. Your prayers and support are an invaluable part of this ministry. I praise God for you and thank you sincerely for joining us for another summer at camp. If you have questions about how else you can get involved with this ministry, please contact me at marc@cyak.org.
FREEMAN SHARES Freeman Gransbury is interning with CYAK and served as a counselor for four weeks this summer at Bible Camp. He shared the following when asked about a favorite memory from camp: “During Pathfinders week, one of my campers prayed for the “breath of life” to be in everbody. That really opened my eyes. I had that same camper in my cabin last year, so it was a blessing to see him grow in his faith. All of my campers throughout the whole month have made an impact on my life. I want to continue youth ministry to reach out to more youth. Knowing that one of my camper’s lives was impacted this year is a great encouragement to me and it pushes me to keep going. Quyana Agayan.”
CAMP THEME:
This summer, we saw 301 campers from 26 villages and communities in Alaska and the lower 48 at Bible Camp! Every year, we are humbled to see how God works in the lives of every kid that comes to camp. Camp is possible because of our incredible volunteers each summer. We were blessed by over 120 staff serving over the course of our six week camp season. All praises to God!
PRAYER PRAISES & REQUESTS
JOIN WITH US
Praise: For a fantastic camp season where God’s presence was felt and known by hundreds of campers and staff For the opportunity to have CYAK interns Prayer Request: For campers who are now at home - that they will see how God is still with them For rest for those who served at camp For summer youth ministry
Covenant Bible Camp serves over 300 youth from across Alaska each summer. Our registration fee is less than what it costs to run the camp. Many communities we serve have high rates of unemployment and some families struggle to pay for their children to attend camp. We want to see as many kids attend camp as possible in 2020!
Thank you for your faithful support of CYAK’s ministry through prayer.
