Fellow cattle producers, Time flies when you are having fun. This saying comes to mind as I reflect on the past almost 40 years of raising beef cattle. I have been truly blessed to be able to pursue my passion for raising “Quality Angus and Simmental Seedstock” for so many years. So, as I now prepare for retirement, I would like to invite you to the Polson Creek Ranch Cattle Dispersal Sale on Saturday, November 10, 2018. We are excited to offer to you the sale of all of our bred cows, bred heifers and open heifer calves, quality cattle from end to end. As we have focused on the needs within the beef industry, and more importantly on the needs of our customers, we have always been committed to producing high quality seedstock. These efforts include: • Only using good A-I sires to produce our seedstock since 1988 • Maintaining a completely closed herd since 1997 • Enrolled in AHIR (Angus Herd Improvement Records) since 1999 • Maintained Level 4 herd status (highest level) in Johne’s testing program since 2001 • Enrolled in THE (Total Herd Enrollment) with American Simmental Association since 2006 These efforts we feel have positioned these cattle to make lasting contributions in their respective breeds and for their future owners.
Welcome to the Polson Creek Dispersal Sale! We are excited to present this set of hard working performance oriented females for your appraisal. What a tribute to the dedication of Dan & Shireen for more than 30 years of maintaining a herd that is advanced through AI and no pasture sires involved. The Anderson family lives just 30 miles south of the Canadian border and to say it can be cold up there longer than the average winter is an understatement and a true testament on just how hardy this herd is while performing at such a high level. Dan & Shireen are blessed to have 12 grandchildren so this dispersal sale is a step in a new journey to spend more time with their family and as we told Dan, “you can’t be in their memory tomorrow if you are not in their lives today!” So we are honored to help Dan & Shireen take the next step and start the new chapter of their lives.

We knew early on that the Angus breed had a lot to offer so we purchased a group of registered heifers in 1994. Our goal was to provide for our customers the calving ease, carcass traits and overall marketability of the Angus cattle. We have been able to keep the birth weights moderate (in the top 40% of the breed) while also improving the performance traits. The average EPDs for these cows ranks them in the top 30% for weaning weight and top 25% for yearling weight compared to their contemporaries in the breed. Add to that the better than average docility, $W, $F, $G and overall $B and we feel that this group of cows has done a good job in providing the right genetics to contribute to the profitability of our customer’s herds.

As cattle producers found out how well the Simmental and Angus complemented each other in their crossbreeding programs, the demand for SimAngus™ bulls also increased. We started raising more and more SimAngus™ bulls and in 2012 began retaining the SimAngus™ heifer mates into the herd. As their numbers have increased in our herd, so has the impact on seedstock business grown. They are truly the ideal cow. We have focused on providing our customers with genetics that improve their bottom line and these SimAngus™ cattle do just that. We started raising registered purebred Simmental cattle about 35 years ago, purchasing the first group of heifers in 1983. Our goal has always been to produce the kind of Simmental seedstock that would work well in most commercial operations, keeping birth weights moderate enough to be compatible with the British breeds but also maintaining the performance and maternal ability that Simmental is known for. We have also worked to maintain moderate frame size and good dispositions as well as improve carcass traits. The high API and TI values of these cattle confirms that we have been on the right path.
