Sale time is near! Early winter was certainly a test with mud, snow, rain, ice and more mud. You’ll probably notice in some of the pictures, it was a trial keeping yards clean. In early February, things mellowed a bit here and we are hopeful that the rest of the winter will not be a repeat of 2019. The Bomb Cyclone in Nebraska was something no one wants to experience again. The Cedar River, about a half mile out our front door, ran as deep at 20 feet plus (1 to 3 feet is typical) for a few days…wreaking havoc on our area, as rivers did all across the state. The wet spring and summer that followed challenged everyone in the area. More cropground was barren this year than we can ever remember. But we survived; #NebraskaStrong. Despite the trials, this year’s offering looks super – headlined by a couple yards of stout herd bull prospects. If you need new bull power or some fancy opens, pairs with all the work done, or even elite breds…you can find them here. We think you will find quality with good looks that read great on paper also. The bulls and heifers were both developed on minimal NEG diets and the breds/pairs were treated like typical cows…grazing stalks until close to calving. No over-conditioned ones here. Come take a look and see for yourself…the time is right for Simmental and SimAngus™ genetics. All the kids are growing up. Terrick is a 6th grader, Teagan is a freshman, Tres and Cole are Juniors, and Shay is in her 2nd year at Wayne State College. Aside from the farm, any spare time revolves around kids’ sports. Some highlights this year were a Class B State
runner up in American Legion Baseball for Tres, a Class C Team State Runner Up in Track for Cole, where he qualified in 3 events, and a Class B ASA state runner up for Teagan in Softball. Teags also qualified in 3 events for state track, medaling in 2. Terrick got to bask in the glory of winning his 6th grade basketball league and finishing 2nd in his football league. Currently, Tres and Cole both start on Fullerton’s basketball team (15-5), which is making a push for a 3rd consecutive state tournament, and Teags is the 1st sub, with a few starts mixed in, on the Fullerton girls basketball team, with a record of 16-4. They will all be on to baseball and track soon. There were team player of the year awards, all conference, all district, all area, and various honorable mention all-state awards, but they have all learned to appreciate the team wins more, rather than individual honors. Winning is fun, but the true rewards in sports are the experiences gained with your friends, as well as the lessons learned. Back to the sale...Yes, it was a trying year that tested our mettle.
