Welcome to our 39th Annual Simmental, Sim-Angus & Angus Production Sale! We would like to take this opportunity to invite all cattlemen and women to our 39th Annual Blue River Gang Production Sale. We are all aware of the challenges that 2020 presented throughout the year from the cattle markets to the virus. However, we are more than grateful to offer a great set of cattle to you again this year, and to gather with our friends in the cattle industry. One of the biggest challenges of preparing for this year’s sale is doing so without part of our team, part of our family. This past September, we received the terrible news that Larry and Marty Mach had passed away in a car accident. Larry and Marty have been a part of the Blue River Gang Sale since 1984, which would have been the 4th annual sale. Larry and Marty both had several accomplishments throughout life and it was truly an honor to be associated with such great people over the years. Larry was very active in the cattle industry, and was well known by several across Nebraska and the Midwest. Larry was a member of the NE Cattleman Board of Directors, the Saunders County Livestock Association Board of Directors, Vice Chair of the Seedstock Council and was on the NE Classic Board of Directors. One of Larry’s greatest accomplishments as a Simmental breeder was raising MS 306R. She was sold on a past Blue River Gang Sale to Darby Line of Triangle J Ranch. The 306R cow went on to be in the top 3 cows for registrations in the entire Simmental breed. Knowing good, honest, people like Larry and Marty are what make the cattle industry enjoyable and worth while. It will be hard to replace Larry’s smile, jokes, and stories from past sales come sale time. Larry and Marty will be missed by many but never forgotten.
Larry and Marty Mach
Larry and Marty were married on September 22, 1979, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Ulysses, NE. They were members of Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Plasi, NE, and they both were very active in their community and held many positions through the surrounding area. Marty graduated from David City Aquinas High School in 1972. Through the years, Marty worked as a CNA at South Haven, Saunders Care Center and St. Joseph Villa. She was a member of Catholic Daughters of America, the American Legion #254 Auxiliary and the Sts. Cyril & Methodius Rosary Society. She enjoyed entertaining family and friends, baking kolaches and yodeling. Larry graduated from Prague High School in 1967. He served his country in the U.S. Navy until he was honorably discharged. Larry worked for Goodyear for fourty years until his retirement. Larry was an active member of the Knights of Columbus #1833 and the 4th Degree Assembly. He was a member of American Legion #254 and he was currently serving as Senior Vice Commander for the State of Nebraska American Legion. Larry was currently serving on the Saunders County Board of Supervisors, he was a member of the NE Cattleman Board of Directors and part of the Blue River Gang. He was a member of the Saunders County Livestock Association Board of Directors, 40/8 Voiture #1834, Vice Chair of the Seedstock Council and NE Classic Board of Directors.
FUTURITY Every year our open heifers sold on the sale are eligible for a futurity show held mid-summer at the Ruth Farm. With $1500 of total winnings this is a very worthwhile event. The winnings can then be redeemed at the following years sale as a credit. The futurity is not limited to just 4-H and FFA members. It is open to anybody purchasing heifers at our sale.
