On behalf of my family and my consignors, I would like to invite you to our 3rd Annual Brand of Excellence Bull Sale. As I am writing this going into the New Year, we sure are enjoying the beautiful above normal temperatures. We have been blessed with a lot of moisture this past year and raised a wonderful crop. We have seen the demand for these Simmental genetics rising in popularity all the time and I think people are seeing the benefits of crossbreeding to add extra value to their calf crop. We live in a world where every extra dollar we can get really goes a long way and I know this set of bulls will add value, dollars and cents to everyone’s program. Once again, Roberts Simmentals is joining us as a guest consigner and I am here to tell you I think they have as good of set of bulls as they have brought yet and many of you will admire them on sale day and down the road. Jerry jamesfelt02@gmail.com is one of the breed leaders raising some of the best genetics out there and has several bulls that are selling semen all across the country. We are going to sell more numbers than usual since we decided to join together. We also told ourselves we were all going to cut back a few numbers in which we have sold in the past to try to make this the very best from all three consigners and turn this into a elite bull sale and not just like a “Wal-Mart” type of sale. We take a lot of pride in how we feed and develop these bulls. The bulls with Felt prefix have been fed a high roughage diet and use ADM’s Amino Gain supplement which benefits the longevity of these bulls and to help with fertility, which eliminates a lot of problems down the road. We feed these cattle to look like breeding cattle and not like a pen of fat cattle. We value all of customers as friends and have been very fortunate to have many repeat customers. Everyone loves a red baldy and from the day this one was born, I knew he was going to be special. Out of the $205,000 top selling bull of Werning’s sale two years ago and this being the first calf crop. This bull stems from two of the best cow families in the breed. His sire goes back to the immortal 8543 cow at Werning’s and on the dam side goes back to the great Sadie cow of Kappes’s. This bull is packed full of red meat and muscle and does it in a complete package. This will be the lead off bull in my one Denver pen. This red bull has made a statement on us and maybe the best I have raised. You can’t go wrong with him in terms of his phenotype or genotype. 304F is the bull to own.

This baldy bull to me is what the beef business is all about. He is thick, deep and will push the scales down. Not only that, he is a flat good one and he made the trip to Denver. His mother is a no miss cow and her bulls in the past have averaged $7,000. He is no fluke, he was bred to be good and has awesome disposition to him.

Here is a baldy Bankroll that has a lot of good looks to him and goes back to an awesome cow. When he was just a young calf, he was hairy and stout and looked like a club calf running around. He has continued to get better every day and will sure be an asset to anybody’s breeding program.

This bull is a little bit more moderate in his frame but is packed full of meat and muscle to him. The Bankroll offspring heifers have been hot all fall to sell. This cow raised an $8,000 bull and several other good ones along the way.

Don’t overlook this one’s weaning weight he was a twin and his sister weaning weight totaling over 1,100 pounds! These three ET brothers have had me excited from day one. Yes, they are younger but they are truly young not like some people who off-date January or February bulls that make them April born. This might have been the most consistent flush I have had from any cow. We also kept a full sib heifer that might be the best heifer that I have raised. These bulls will add some structural integrity and look into a set of calves that won’t sacrifice performance. They go back to the great Rhythm cow of Ruby Cattle from Iowa and combine that with the 8543 cow of Werning’s, I don’t know how you could make one any better. The EPDs on these bulls are second to none as well. This was my purebred pen of three bulls in Denver. I’ll let you decide which one you like best.

My brother-in-law bought this bull’s dam as a bred heifer a couple years ago and she has made a really nice cow for him. This bull is one of my favorite Executive Order calves and was in my Denver pen. He has a great set of feet and legs on him and has a lot of rib and shape to him. This is one really good Executive Order bull that goes back to a stellar cow, Victoria from Hecksel Simmentals from Minnesota. This has been one of my favorite bulls all year long and we were halter breaking him for Denver, he went off feed for awhile. He decided the show life wasn’t for him and after losing some weight, he was put back in the pen with the big group of bulls. Now he is coming back on strong after suffering a setback, so don’t overlook him.

Kenny Prince, a good friend of mine is no stranger around the cattle business, bought a really good bred heifer from me a year ago that lay down and had an exceptionally good Executive Order bull calf and asked to put him on the sale. He maybe a nickel younger and out of a first calf heifer, but don’t let that fool you; he has really came on since he dropped him off. It is bulls like this that make the Simmental bull business fun and makes you want to raise and sell more of them.

Executive Order sired calves are my favorite sire group as a whole. Everyone is good and definitely has a purpose in the beef business. This bull was in the group that had gotten halter broke to go to Denver, but grew away from the others. One of the most attractive bulls in the group and is stout when you get behind him as well. I look to see this bull out siring himself and you ending up with a calf crop you can only dream of.

I have really like this calf from day one. Every year, this cow always out produces herself, not the biggest cow in the world but one that has raised a monster calf every year. I would say there is a lot of upside to this bull and will make someone very proud to bring home.

I can’t recall how many years I have had this cow now but she has never given me a heifer calf. I would love to keep a daughter out of her some day for she has put a bull in the sale every year. I do think this is the best calf she has had to date and exploded since weaning. I told the hired man the other day we should of have gotten him in quick and broke him for Denver, but we were running out of days to get it done.

This bull from his shoulders back is as good as any bull in the country. He is thick, stout and full of meat and muscle, to be this stout and still have awesome look, kind of a freak in my eyes. This cow every year has a sale feature and had my top selling open heifer calf a year ago of $15,000. I expect big things out of this bull.
When we torched bulls a couple weeks ago, this was probably the heaviest bull in the group. He has exploded since weaning and will sure add some frame and pounds to a calf crop in a hurry, but still has a great body and good look to him as well. This is one impressive bull that you will want to come find sale day.

Here is a Distinction son that is pure and simple a farmers’ type bull. He 7.3 is big middled, easy flushing, and 21.9 stout. I think there needs to be more -.31 cattle like this in the real world.

We sampled some of the Hara’s Distinction bull last year and should have used more of him. They have been my hired man’s favorite sire group as babies but I don’t really want to give him credit at the time. Now I have to eat crow! Distinction sired my top selling open heifer calf this fall, so he has done a good job. This bull is a double bred ¾ blood that goes back to a awesome cow on the bottom side. He has a perfect blaze face and is a stout built bull and gives you an awesome look. When he was a calf, he was awesome haired and looked like a club calf running around.

His sire might be one of the breed’s most popular bulls and I understand why. They calve easy and get up and grow with a lot of performance as well and maintain a great look about them. Here is an ET calf out of my donor I own with Western Cattle Source. They have a pen of full brothers that they took to Denver that they say are the best they have ever raised. They were fortunate to get more bulls then I was. The dam’s first calf last year, a half brother won his age division in Denver and the Black Hills Stock show in Rapid City and went on to be a sale topper there. This bull is really long bodied and has a super long clean front in him for a purebred bull. When you get behind him, he won’t disappoint either you one bit as he has real power. We had two full sib heifers to this bull that were my top selling opens this fall for me.

This bull comes from one of the oldest cows on the farm. She is very consistent every year and always gives me a calf to sell either on my bull or bred heifer sale. We went and used some of Connealy’s Consensus semen hoping to get some great replacement heifers. I have been told by many Angus breeders that their best cows are Consensus daughters. This bull sure won’t disappoint you, and keep the daughters out of him which will have a lot of maternal and longevity bred into this one.

This one is younger but he is sure one of the best ones in the sale. A full sister to this bull was showed very successful by the Behmer family and won a lot of shows around the area. A maternal sister was shown this last year by Hunter Borg and was shown three different times and won all three shows at the Nebraska State Fair and won many shows prior to this as well. There is a strong cow family here and a lot of predictability built in here so take advantage of this bull being a little younger and just wait to see what the future has in store for you.

Here is my only purebred Angus I have in the sale this year. Born unexpectedly out on corn stalks on a bitterly cold day and is missing the tips of his ears but that is the only not so good thing about him. He had a first calf heifer for a dam that had a lot of great mother ability to keep him going and raised one heck of a bull calf. We purchased his dam on the Western Exposure Sale of Trevor Roche from Idaho last year which I felt was there best Angus bred heifer there. She will probably become a new Angus donor for me in the next year to come. Bull is sired by the Charlo bull which needs no introduction out west and in the Angus breed. I feel this bull will work on heifers easily and I do guarantee his calves to have ears. Dam’s registration paper was not received in time to get the bull’s paper available, but paper will be gotten if you so desire.

DEFINITIONS OF TERMS Expected Progeny Differences (EPDs): EPDs are the most accurate and effective tool available for comparing genetic levels. Back Fat (BF): Inches of backfat. Birth Weight (BW): Pounds of birth weight. Calving Ease (CE): Percent of unassisted births when used on heifers. Carcass Weight (CW): Pounds of carcass weight. Maternal Calving Ease (MCE): Percent of unassisted births in first-calving daughters. Milk (MLK): Pounds of weaning wt. due to milk. Marbling (MRB): Marbling score. Maternal Weaning Weight (MWW): Pounds of weaning weight due to milk and growth. Ribeye Area (REA): Square inches of ribeye. Warner-Bratzler Shear Force (WBSF): Pounds of force required to shear a steak. Stayability (STAY): Percent of daughters remaining in the cowherd at 6 years of age. Terminal Index (TI): Dollars per cow exposed under a terminal-sire scenario. Weaning Weight (WW): Pounds of weaning weight. Yearling Weight (YW): Pounds of yearling weight. Yield Grade (YG): Yield grade score.
EXPLANATION OF HOW TO UTILIZE API AND TI INDEXES First, determine which index to use; if you’re keeping replacements use API, if not, TI. Then, just as with EPDs, zero in on the unit difference between bulls. (As described to the left, index units are in dollars per cow exposed.) The difference can be used to determine how much a bull is worth compared to another. Or, put another way, how much you can pay for one bull compared to another. For example, when buying an all-purpose-type sire, you can quickly figure a bull scoring +100 for API is worth an extra $6,000 over a $50 bull if both are exposed to 30 cows over 4 years ($50 diff. x 30 hd. x 4 yr. = $6,000).
