PATRICK SWEENEY

LEGACY

To honor the cherished memories of Gloria Sweeney, Irene Felland, and Delbert Felland, Patrick Sweeney has chosen to establish the Patrick A. Sweeney Scholarship as part of his estate plan. This scholarship will stand as a lasting tribute to his family’s commitment to education and their belief in the transformative power of academic achievement. Gloria often said that education is something no one can ever take away. Patrick embarked on his entrepreneurial journey at 16, placing vending machines across five counties. He obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in education from the UW-Stout in 1978. Throughout his career, he diversified his investments, including retail businesses, writing mortgages, real estate, and more. After serving as a Deputy Sheriff in Rusk County for approximately 25 years, fulfilling various roles such as the 911 Center, Jail, Sergeant, Patrol, and Water and Snow Patrol, he retired and relocated to Dallas, Texas. Currently, he relishes life, indulging in extensive global travel and exploration across six continents including places like Saudi Arabia and Bahrain. Patrick Sweeney shapes Ladysmith students’ futures by investing in their education through the RCCF’s Legacy Circle.

Designated Fund

Patrick Sweeney, a graduate of Ladysmith High School, carries a deep appreciation for the love of learning that permeates his family. Growing up, he witnessed the unwavering commitment and support his family provided to students in Ladysmith’s classrooms, fueling their educational aspirations. With his mother, Gloria Sweeney, being a math, English, and reading teacher, and his grandmother, Irene Felland, being a teacher and principal, the importance of education was ingrained in him from an early age. Their commitment was supported by Delbert Felland, a successful businessman and uncle of Patrick’s.

LEGACY

OF GIVING

A legacy fund at the Rusk County Community Foundation is a lasting way to honor a commitment that extends well beyond a lifetime.

Endowment Value $25,000

$108,367.00

(original gift)

When a donor establishes a charitable endowment, they are choosing to make a gift today that will do good work forever. In return, the Community Foundation commits to protecting that intent and carrying it out with care.

Total Grants Distributed Endowment Value

Assumes 8% return, 4% distribution $1,075.00

Here is how it works: the original gift is not spent. It is invested to grow and generate earnings. A Fund Agreement documents the donor’s wishes and guides how grants and scholarships are awarded. Typically, only a portion of earnings is distributed each year, allowing the fund to grow over time. As the years pass, the impact can far exceed the original gift.
