• Expert faculty: All astronomy classes are taught by department head, Dr. David Bradstreet, a global expert in eclipsing binary star research and leader in the field of digital planetarium curriculum development at planetariums worldwide.

• The Bradstreet Observatory consists of two state-ofthe-art, computerized, 16-inch diameter telescopes.
• The Julia Fowler Planetarium boasts one of the brightest, most sophisticated, and highest resolution projection systems in a 20-ft diameter dome in the world.
• Unique opportunities: The department regularly offers opportunities for non-science majors and astronomy minors to use state-of-the-art facilities. Opportunities include photographing galaxies, observing the sun, measuring, analyzing, and publishing never-before-studied eclipsing binary stars, or learning how to present cutting-edge astronomy curriculum in a planetarium.
RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES
Students work closely with professional astronomers to develop and deliver presentations for local astronomical events. In addition, students have participated in research published by organizations such as the American Astronomical Society and NASA.

• High NCLEX-RN pass rates: For the past 5 years, Eastern’s BSN students’ NCLEX-RN pass rates have averaged approximately 95% for first time candidates for licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN). To enhance student performance on NCLEX, our program integrates NCLEX test taking strategies and preparation throughout the entire curriculum.

• Accreditation: The department has been accredited by the Council on Social Work Education since 1974 (the earliest year accreditation was available).
• Theory meets practice: Students are stretched to think deeply and critically about problems facing individuals, families, communities, and organizations, and how to effectively engage, assess, and intervene.
• Faculty mentoring: Professors provide extensive individualized advising, mentoring, and support.
• Student Social Work Association: SSWA is a student run club that focuses on building community among social work students, while offering formal and informal student learning and service opportunities.
• Internships: Students complete internships during their junior and senior year earning 600 hours of field experience. Internships are arranged by the Field Director and are in settings including aging adults, at risk youth, anti-human trafficking, child advocacy, child welfare, developmental disability, domestic violence, food insecurity, homelessness, hospitals, immigration, pregnancy, schools, substance abuse, and truancy.
