The following pages provide a comprehensive listing of all child care centers, Mother’s Morning Out (MMO) programs, and preschools available to children up to the age of 5 in East Cobb County. This information offers a quick review of the child care and educational programs located right here in our East Cobb community. We have not attempted to “rank” or “rate” any centers. Readers are encouraged to thoroughly evaluate any potential caregiver. The Child Care Licensing Section of the Georgia Department of Human Resources regulates the industry and can be very helpful. In the Pre-K column, an * after the check mark indicates that the preschool offers the Georgia Pre-K program.

Corrigan Care Creates Day Care for Exceptional Children

For Founder and CEO Amy Corrigan, Corrigan Care is more than just a non-profit organization she founded: it is a way to honor her daughter Emmy’s life and continue the impact she had on other exceptional children and their families. Emmy Corrigan was diagnosed with Down syndrome. After overcoming many health challenges as an infant, she developed Parvovirus (Fifth Disease) when she turned two. She was in and out of the hospital, but ultimately lost her battle in December, 2009. Amy has turned this tragic loss into a wonderful legacy — Corrigan Care, Inc.

Continuing the organization’s mission “to make the world a better place by embracing parents and families of exceptional children,” Corrigan Care recently launched a Mom’s Morning Out (MMO) program for Special Needs Children and their siblings ages 6 months-3 years. The MMO is held at Mt Bethel UMC’s Nursery, Room D-8, every Wednesday from 9:30am-12:30pm. It gives parents that much needed “me-time” while their children are in a funfilled, learning environment that encompasses therapeutic play while stimulating their desire to learn. Parents can partner with caregivers to maintain each child’s daily routine while upholding their developmental goals. “Because of our fundraising efforts,” explains Amy Corrigan, “if a child requires a nursing level of care, one is made available at no additional cost.”

Corrigan Care’s MMO is an affordable, guilt-free option that delivers an invaluable service. With a minimum of three caregivers at all times, children are given individualized attention by the staff — all of whom have special needs kids or grand-kids of their own, as well as prior childcare experience. The weekly program accepts at least six spe-

cial needs kids and welcomes their siblings. Each week, Lakeshore Learning Store is providing a craft project for the kids to explore their inner-artistry while providing a sensory experience.

Amy Corrigan, an East Cobb resident, brings handson knowledge to this new MMO. She has served as the Education Director of the Down Syndrome Association of Atlanta for the past two years and played a part in bringing GiGi’s Playhouse – a Down Syndrome Awareness Center, to Atlanta. Current efforts extend from collaboration with other parents to promote understanding of children with disabilities to local Daisy Troops, with hopes to bring this presentation to East Cobb’s elementary schools.

Preschool Picassos

At Walker, our Preschoolers learn about Picasso and Dali. They learn about Monet and Seurat. They learn about styles and techniques, and apply them as they draw, paint, cut, tear, mold and create–beautiful works that appear in our annual Preschool Art Show. It’s the wonder of creativity. It’s the wonder of Walker.

How to Access Inspection Reports on Your Child’s Daycare Center

When you send your child to daycare, you want to make sure that the daycare is in compliance with building and fire safety codes and standards. Georgia state inspectors visit child care facilities throughout Georgia and write inspection reports each year on whether or not a daycare is safe for children. If you are looking for daycare inspection reports, you can go to the Bright from the Start website at www.decal.ga.gov and click search for child care. Each facility has every inspection report available for viewing, from compliance reports to investigative reports. Reports are typically on the website ten days after the date of the visit, and remain posted for 18 months. Contact Bright from the Start at 404-657-5562 for more information. Bright from the Start: Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL), is the state agency responsible for overseeing and supporting early care and education.

Mt. Bethel

Christian Academy Kindergarten: A Firm Foundation

There is no greater responsibility than that of a parent. And among the myriad of important decisions parents make for their children, the choice of elementary school ranks among the most critical. They buy a house in the “right” school zone, they may change jobs, they will sacrifice financially to place their children in the school they trust to help build a foundation for learning - a foundation that must last a lifetime. It’s a crucially important decision. And there are no second chances. For the children enrolled in kindergarten at Mt. Bethel Christian Academy, a lifetime of learning is built on a foundation of faith - a foundation that is uncommon and uncompromising.

The kindergarten program at Mt. Bethel is characterized by small classes where each child is known and loved as an image bearer of Christ. With a maximum of 18 students per class and a full-time assistant teacher in every classroom, they are able to devote the kind of individualized attention to each child that is simply not possible in a typical school. The 9:1 child to adult ratio makes for learning that is more effective, more enjoyable and more personal.

The Mt. Bethel Christian Academy kindergarten faculty delight in partnering closely with parents, many of whom are guiding their firstborn in his/her first school experience. These expert faculty know from many years of experience that an abundance of communication is key to a successful partnership. With teacher and parent working together, a Mt. Bethel kindergartner is confident, content and moves quickly towards the independence all children need for success in school and in life.

To learn how your child can benefit from the Mt. Bethel experience, contact Rhea Adkins, Director of Admission at (770) 971-0245, or at rhea.adkins@mtbethel.org. Limited spaces still remain for the 2012-2013 year.
