Elizabeth Jenkins EAST COBBER Mother of the Year

Here is the winning essay written by Emily Yellingwood, a longtime friend of Elizabeth Jenkins. One of the most beautiful mothers in East Cobb is a close friend and it is an honor to nominate Elizabeth Jenkins for Mother of the Year. Although her outer beauty is what you notice first, it is her inner beauty that makes me want to drop everything and write to the EAST COBBER as to why she should be East Cobb’s Mother of the Year!

Last year Elizabeth’s husband, Joel, left for Iraq. Joel’s return to the military was not an easy decision for them to make. It would mean many sacrifices and demands on each member of the family which would not be easy. Joel will be gone for over 400 days. Running the family business, maintaining the home and parenting her two children, Caroline and Reed, without the day to day support of Joel, challenges Elizabeth daily. While sacrificing the day to day affection and support of her sweet husband, she is forced to take on responsibilities she normally would not have to.

Many of us face challenging circumstances which either destroy us or make us stronger. Elizabeth’s strength of character has shined when faced with adversity and she continually sets an example for her children of what we aspire to as moms. She is strong and independent but not too proud to ask for help when she needs it. Elizabeth is not a whiner and complainer. She is real and does not hide her pain, but she is not prone to ongoing pity parties and constant whining. Elizabeth possesses a grateful heart and sees in each day something for which to thank God. Even in her tears, she laughs! Elizabeth continually perseveres even when the marathon of life seems to zap all her energy. Lastly, Elizabeth is a giver. She continues to reach out and bless her family and friends through her many talents even when no one expects it during this challenging time.

By choosing Elizabeth Jenkins as Mother of the Year, the EAST COBBER would be honoring one of East Cobb’s greatest mothers.
