e all talk about who makes the best pizza, where to get the best cup of coffee, which plumber or electrician can be trusted, and who’s our favorite hair stylist. About a year ago, we decided to put these questions to a vote. Welcome to the “Winners” issue for the first-ever “East Bay’s Best” contest, hosted by East Bay Media Group. Planning for the contest began late last year, and things really ramped up this spring. First came several weeks of pre-contest promotion, then a twoweek period for nominations, then a break, before another two-week round of voting. Because it’s so new, we had no idea what to expect. We were beyond thrilled with the response. We received 721 nominations for businesses and nonprofits in this region, divided into more than 140 different categories. Some businesses nominated themselves — which is not only acceptable, it is strongly encouraged! However, hundreds of businesses were nominated by adoring customers. Once voting began, the fun really started. Nearly 10,000 different voters cast more than 25,000 total votes (everyone was allowed to vote once a day for up to two weeks). Those are the
