CELEBRATING FAMILIES

Over the past few months, my son and I have been reading the inspiring story of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, a courageous man of faith who lived with unwavering conviction and deep joy, even in the face of immense personal trials as a prisoner in Germany during World War II.

What stood out most to me was how, despite the hardship Bonhoeffer endured, he was known for spreading an atmosphere of happiness and gratitude. One of his fellow prisoners said of him: “He always seemed to spread an atmosphere of happiness and joy over the least incident and profound gratitude for the mere fact that he was alive . . . . He was one of the very few persons I have ever met for whom God was real and always near.”

Our students and families have experienced their own share of adversity — challenges that could understandably lead to discouragement and despair. However, at the conclusion of another school year, we see healing, renewed hope, and yes, even joy.

We celebrate with great jubilation the growth of these students and their families. We also rejoice as God continues to show up and do the miracle work of restoring and renewing lives, both now and for eternity.

I trust you will enjoy this Celebration newsletter, and I hope it prompts you towards a deep joy worth savoring.

Appreciatively,

A SEASON TO CELEBRATE

BENJAMIN

“I

learned that you always have a choice, and it will always have an effect. I also learned how to share my emotions. My houseparents have helped me with all of those things, and those things will really help me in my life. I have also learned to control myself better and to be more kind to my family, especially to my mom and brother. I am excited for my future.”

The Power of Choice

BENJAMIN’S STORY

When Benjamin’s family arrived at Eagle Ranch, they were running on empty. Years of counseling — starting when he was just five — hadn’t brought the peace they desperately needed at home. They loved their son deeply, but they felt unequipped to give him the tools he needed to thrive.

“We just wanted peace in our home,” his mom explained. “But more importantly, we wanted Benjamin to have strategies to be successful in life. And we just didn’t feel like we could provide that for him.”

Eagle Ranch became the place where things started to shift. Over the course of nearly two years, Benjamin and his family began to experience real transformation. With time, structure, and guidance, he learned how to manage his emotions and make better choices. His parents noticed the change almost immediately.

“He’s so much more aware of what and who is around him,” his mom said. “The way he treats people and handles situations now is so much better. Situations where he used to have a pretty massive blow-up don’t seem to affect him quite as adversely anymore.”

Benjamin felt the change within himself, too.

“I’ve learned to think before I speak,” he said. “I don’t blow up or get angry like I used to. I feel good—I think I’ve made a lot of progress here.”

As their time at Eagle Ranch comes to a close, the family feels both hopeful and grounded. They know more challenges will come, but they believe Benjamin is better prepared to face them. One of the most valuable lessons they’ve all taken away is the importance of choice.

“YOU ALWAYS HAVE A CHOICE, AND IT WILL ALWAYS HAVE AN EFFECT.”

“I’ve learned that every choice has a consequence,” Benjamin said. “And I always have a choice, no matter what.”

From Breaking Point to Breakthrough

HANNAH’S STORY

When Hannah’s mom first heard about Eagle Ranch from a friend, they were at a breaking point. Parenting had become a cycle of trial and error, and their daughter Hannah was struggling. “We tried to do it our way and it was not working. We needed help,” she said.

“I was really disrespectful and struggled with rules and things I disagreed with,” reflected Hannah. “I came in with a mindset that I was always right, and basically that other people were stupid.”

For Hannah’s mom, one of the biggest breakthroughs came through learning consistent parenting: “Hannah would ask me the same question repeatedly, trying to wear me down so that I would eventually give in and say yes. It was a never-ending cycle of that. At the Ranch, I learned how to stay consistent with my parenting and set choices and consequences beforehand. Eventually, both Hannah and I learned that rules were rules, and I was gonna stick by them no matter what.”

While living at the Ranch, Hannah learned a lot about self-awareness and processing her emotions. “I used to implode, then explode,” she said. “Now I’ve learned how to cope with my emotions through things like skating and basketball.”

On a deeper level, Hannah realized how God was using the Ranch to transform her into the person He created her to be. Hannah decided to make her faith public and was baptized in the lake at the Ranch.

“My experience has been really eye-opening,” reflected Hannah. “I was really disrespectful and knew that I needed to change. Now, I know that I am made in God’s image, and God wants me to be more like Him.”

Looking ahead, they have hope for the future. “I’m proud of her. I want her to take these tools and run with them,” said Hannah’s mom. “She has grown up so much, and I see the confidence inside her now. She came here a little girl, and she’s leaving a young woman.”

“When I came to the Ranch, I was really disrespectful and struggled with rules and things I didn’t agree with. I came with a mindset that I was right and that other people were stupid. I felt safe and open with those that supported me here. The school staff was really encouraging, and it helped me a lot. Without the Ranch, I wouldn’t be the person that I am today.”

TYLER

“I came to the Ranch in search of help with my family. Me and my grandpa were facing trauma from the loss of family members, and we started to not get along. I was failing my classes in school, and I was in constant trouble. In my time at Eagle Ranch, I have learned so much. This place has taught me that I’m not the only one in the room with emotions, and I needed to learn how to cope in a healthy way.”

“I’VE LEARNED THAT RESPECTING OTHERS CAN TAKE YOU A LONG WAY.”

MASON

“The reason I came to Eagle Ranch two years ago is because of my bad decisions that left me with bad grades. My grandma didn’t really know what to do to help me. While I’ve been at Eagle Ranch I’ve learned that respecting others can take you a long way. When you disrespect someone it always just comes back to you in a negative way. I am grateful for so many people at Eagle Ranch and everything they have done for me.”

“LEARNING COPING SKILLS CHANGED MY RELATIONSHIP WITH MY PARENTS FOR THE BETTER.”

HAILEY

“I came to Eagle Ranch because my relationship with my parents, mainly my mom, was rough. My mom and I would constantly be in arguments and our relationship grew rocky. Something that I learned at Eagle Ranch is identifying and using coping skills. Before, I knew what they were I just never used them or really identified them. Now, I use them a lot and it helps prevent all the arguments I used to get into it with my parents.”

A Journey at Eagle Ranch Day School

Grayson’s path to Eagle Ranch began in the shadows of a difficult school experience. “He was having a really hard time at school — mean kids, bullying, large classes without a lot of support and administrators who didn’t step in,” his mom recalled. To protect her son, she first moved him to the district where she taught, but the struggles lingered. “It helped a little, but it wasn’t what he really needed.”

That’s when Eagle Ranch entered the picture. Through outpatient counseling at The Wings Center at Eagle Ranch, the family discovered the Day School Program — a perfect middle ground that didn’t require residential placement but still offered the structure and emotional support Grayson needed. “Before the Ranch, our family was very disconnected,” his mom shared. “Grayson wanted to be on his own and didn’t want to participate in anything we did as a family.”

Grayson describes the program simply: “It’s pretty chill. I really like the people at the school. It’s a safer environment; and it helps with your emotions and stuff, not having so many people around you. It’s a lot of work and a lot of communication. You’re actually able to talk about things, and that’s pretty impactful.”

The repeated practice of identifying emotions and improving communication drastically transformed their home. “He used to get really mad over little stuff,” said his sister, Braelyn. “Now, if we argue, it’s rare. We give each other space, then talk about it.”

The ripple effect has been unmistakable. “Our family is a lot more cohesive. There’s no more slamming doors or walking on eggshells,” said his mom. “Grayson has learned to see others’ perspectives and communicate in a healthier way.”

Counseling played a huge role. “It’s the best thing we’ve ever done,” she added. “Now we have a couch in my room where Grayson and I can talk — honestly — even when it’s hard.”

As Grayson’s family leaves Eagle Ranch and moves forward into this next season of their lives, they are hopeful. Grayson agrees the change has been profound. “If there was one thing that I would take away from this program, it would be to never give up, and to keep striving to be the best version of who you are as a person. If you do that, you will understand who God made you to be and why He put you here.”

GRAYSON

“If there was one thing that I would take away from this program it would be to never give up and to keep striving to be the best version of who you are as a person. If you do that, you will understand who God made you to be and why He put you here.”

“I thought everyone was out to get me. But I’ve learned that not everything is about me — and that’s been huge.”
AMELIA

Finding Peace at Eagle Ranch

Two years ago, Amelia and her family arrived at Eagle Ranch feeling overwhelmed, frustrated, and desperate for change. At just eleven years old, Amelia was struggling with angry outbursts, disrespect for authority figures, and stealing — behaviors that were straining the family to the breaking point.

Her parents, overwhelmed and unsure how to help, knew something had to change. “There was constant chaos,” her mother recalled. “We were stuck in a power struggle with no idea how to make it better.”

Amelia’s challenges weren’t only behavioral. She felt isolated and misunderstood, often assuming others were judging or excluding her. “I thought everyone was out to get me,” she later admitted. “But I’ve learned that not everything is about me — and that’s been huge.”

What began as a leap of faith on the recommendation of a therapist turned into a life-changing experience. The structured environment at Eagle Ranch helped Amelia face her choices and take responsibility for them. More importantly, her parents began to transform as well.

“We thought we were parenting the right way, because it’s how we were raised,” her dad said. “But we realized we had to change, too.”

Over time, Amelia’s parents learned to approach discipline with consistency and teamwork. They began parenting openly, with calmer reactions and clearer boundaries.

The impact rippled through the family. Amelia

grew closer to her siblings, finding comfort and connection where there was once tension. “My sisters and I talk about everything now,” she said. “It’s like they’re my safe space.”

“IT’S

NOT PERFECT, BUT WE’RE GROWING TOGETHER. AND THAT’S EVERYTHING.”

The family now describes their home life with one key difference: peace. There are still challenges. Amelia is, after all, a teenager — but the chaos has given way to a calmer, more connected family dynamic. “It’s not perfect,” her mom said, “but we’re growing together. And that’s everything.”

A Trajectory of Hope

SEBASTIAN’S STORY

“EAGLE RANCH HAS CHANGED THE TRAJECTORY OF WHERE WE WERE HEADED, WHAT SEBASTIAN’S FUTURE LOOKED LIKE, AND THE RELATIONSHIPS WITHIN OUR FAMILY.”

Before Eagle Ranch, Sebastian’s life was filled with tension, especially at home. “The relationship between me and my mom was really strained,” he said. “We were always short with each other. I picked fights, annoyed people on purpose — I was just pushing everyone away.”

His parents had known about Eagle Ranch through a friend, initially considering it for another child. But when Sebastian began to spiral, they reached out. “We weren’t sure when the right time was,” his mom recalled. “But the First Step Counseling team at Eagle Ranch helped us determine that our family needed this now.”

During their time in the program, the entire family benefited, and family dynamics began to heal.

“I came in thinking Sebastian was the problem. But I realized I was a big part of it too,” said Mark, Sebastian’s dad. “As parents, we’ve learned better ways of handling conflict, how to talk through that conflict, and how to regulate ourselves so we can provide proper structure and choices, and not contribute to the problem. Those tools and lessons have been really helpful.”

For Sebastian, the biggest breakthrough was learning to pause. “It doesn’t hurt to take a second to think,” he said. “When I do that, I can either stop myself or accept the consequences of my choice. That changed everything.”

With the new skills and tools in their toolbelt, Sebastian’s family feels better equipped to move forward into their next season of life. Their shared hope is that they continue to practice the things they have learned, to remember how important those lessons are, and to regularly reflect on how they have changed as a family.

“What we’ve experienced here really changed our lives,” said Leslie, Sebastian’s mom. “Eagle Ranch has changed the trajectory of where we were headed, what Sebastian’s future looked like, and the relationships within our family.”

SEBASTIAN

“One

of the biggest things I’ve learned at Eagle Ranch is that it doesn’t hurt to take a second to think. When I take a second to think about what I am doing, I typically either know I am making the choice to do something and stop, or I’ll continue with the choice and know what the consequences are going to be.”

ELI

“Before Eagle Ranch, home was really intense – we didn’t really know how to share emotions or anything like that. Eagle Ranch really helped us with communicating with each other, teaching us healthy coping skills, and giving us space to be a family.”

Growing in Confidence

ELI’S STORY

The Day School Program at Eagle Ranch is one of Eagle Ranch’s newest services. Unique in its ability to offer an adaptive curriculum that provides modifications and accommodations for each student, Eagle Ranch School delivers a combination of tailored academic curriculum, therapeutic strategies, and character-building methods that lay a solid foundation to empower each child to achieve any academic or behavioral goal.

For Eli and his family, the Day School Program at Eagle Ranch was the perfect fit. After years of homeschooling, they hoped to ease his transition into a traditional school setting with the support of a caring, structured environment.

“We wanted Eli to grow in confidence and celebrate who he is,” his mom shared. “Eagle Ranch helped him do exactly that.”

With smaller classes, personal attention from staff, and a strong sense of community, Eli found the support he needed. “The teachers and staff really helped me grow,” he said. “I learned how to handle change and connect with others.”

Outdoor time, friendships, and mentoring played a big part in his journey. “Being outside helped a lot—just sitting and being calm,” Eli added.

For his parents, the growth they witnessed was both encouraging and joyful. “He flourished — he matured, made friends, and was genuinely happy,” they shared. “We’re so thankful for how Eagle Ranch walked with us through this transition.”

Now preparing for high school, Eli carries the lessons from Eagle Ranch with him. “I hope to take the stuff I learned and move it to high school,” he said. “Good friends, managing sports, class time, family . . . and of course, being outside.”

“HE FLOURISHED — HE MATURED, MADE FRIENDS, AND WAS GENUINELY HAPPY.”
