LCSD schedules voter registration day to be held May 13

Residents living in the Liverpool Central School District can vote during the LCSD school budget and board of education election, as well as the Liverpool Public Library and board of trustees election, on May 20. Voters must be: 3 Citizens of the United States; 3 18 years of age or older; 3 Residents of the school district for at least a 30day period immediately preceding the election; and 3 Registered with the district Board of Voter Registration or the Onondaga County Board of Elections. Residents who have registered to vote with LCSD, and have maintained that registration by voting in a school district election within the last four calendar years, are properly registered to vote. Residents who are not registered with the district can do so on Tuesday, May 13, at the district office at 195 Blackberry Road in Bayberry between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Those who currently are registered to vote with the Onondaga County Board of Elections also may vote in school and library elections with no further registration. However, those who are not also entered in the school district register of voters may experience a slight delay at the polls because they will be asked to execute poll records for the district voter file before they will be permitted to vote. Qualified voters who wish to vote early, will be away from home, or are otherwise unable to vote in person may vote by absentee or early ballot. Absentee and early ballots can be mailed to residents until May 13. After May 13, residents must pick them up in Room 29 of the district office. To obtain an absentee or early ballot application, or for more information, contact the office of the district clerk at 315-622-7191. The district clerk must receive absentee or early ballots no later than 5 p.m. on the LCSD and LPL budget vote day (May 20).

The village of North Syracuse celebrated Arbor Day on April 25 at Veteran’s Park and Centerville Place. The village of North Syracuse celebrated Arbor Day on April 25 at Veteran’s Park and Centerville Place. The “Star Spangled Banner” was performed by Lee Turner on keyed bugle. Mayor Gary Butterfield read an Arbor Day proclamation and trees seedlings were gifted by Erik Imperato of Bartlett Tree. In addition there was a Tree City presentation by

Department of Environmental Conservation Forester Sarah Malinowski, a dedication of Ginkgo trees and the Japanese National Anthem performed by Turner. The event also celebrated the 100th anniversary of the village and was held in memory of Paul W. Kolodzie and Theresa B. (Griffin) Capria. The celebration concluded with the Australian Anthem, again performed by Turner.

By Russ Tarby Contributing Writer At a special meeting of the village board of trustees on Monday, April 28, a new village clerk was hired to replace longtime clerk and treasurer Mary Ellen Sims, who is retiring on June 27. Mayor Stacy Finney and trustees Melissa Cassidy and Rachel Ciotti met to approve the hiring of Linda Whitcomb of North Syracuse. Whitcomb is expected to begin working full-time at the village hall on June 1. She will be paid $30 per hour. Whitcomb will replace Sims, who served as village clerk for 28 years. For the past 13 years, Sims has been working part-time. She will serve as a consultant to the new clerk for as long as necessary. Whitcomb has recently been employed by Charter Communications, and she previously worked more than 17 years in billing and customer service for TimeWarner Cable and Spectrum. Finney interviewed Whitcomb and found her to be “level-headed, calm and thoughtful.” She has a strong background in finances and customer service, the mayor pointed out, and Sims agreed. “She’ll be a good fit,” said the current village clerk. Reflecting on her 28 years working for the village, Sims said “My time serving the village residents, mayors and trustees has been enjoyable, challenging and very rewarding. The village of Liverpool has been my ‘home’ and will always be in my heart.” She sent out a special thank you to past mayors Jim Farrell, Marlene Ward and Gary White “for having faith in me.” Sims also thanked Finney, who was elected mayor in 2023, “for trusting that I would continue to provide the best service to all the residents in the village.”
