Filmmaking fallout
Neighbors upset by American High truck traffic and late-night shoots By Russ Tarby Contributing Writer
M
ore than 40 village residents – most of them neighbors of the American High film company and its Academy at Syracuse Studios, at 800 Fourth St. – turned out for the monthly meeting of the Liverpool Planning Board on March 21, at the village hall on Sycamore Street. Fourteen people spoke at the meeting, and only one of them praised American High. Most of the speakers complained loudly about the way truck traffic and late-night film shoots have disrupted their otherwise idyllic village neighborhood. Several speakers complained about truck diesel fumes, loud generators, lights, noise and litter. “I’ve lived for 40 years in this village,” said Birch Street resident Sandi Lovell. “This is a real mess. I have to deal with fumes from idling trucks and the noise is constant. It’s too much.” Stacey Schafer was upset that American High has yet to restore the children’s playground that was demolished on the Hickory Street side of the building. Others said they missed the basketball courts and the tennis courts along Birch Street. Over the past year or so, those sites have been used as parking lots. The two-story brick building was built at Hickory and Fourth streets in 1928 to house Liverpool’s first stand-alone junior-senior high school. It contains a 500-seat auditorium, and the 6.9-acre property includes a large athletic field with a cinder track. At a public hearing on June 26, 2017, the planning board had approved a special-use permit to allow the proposed filmmaking
trade school to operate at the village’s historic Zogg Building. The applicant, Hollywood director Jeremy Garelick, updated his site plan and the planning board voted unanimously to approve both the special-use permit and the site plan. The village board of trustees had previously changed the definition of “school” as applied to the Zogg property to include “trade school.” At that time, Garelick and his staff agreed to limit traffic in the area from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., and they pledged to alert neighbors ahead of time to planned exterior filming in the area, especially during evening hours. Village Codes Officer Bill Reagan said American High’s application for filming permits had increased from seven days in 2020 to 32 days in 2021, a rate which has continued this year. Academy at Syracuse Studios Director of Operations Heath Cottengim represented American High at the March 28 meeting and agreed that many of the complaints were “valid.” “I need to apologize for the impression that we operate above the rules,” Cottengim said. He offered several plans designed to alleviate truck traffic and late-night disruptions, and members of the planning board encouraged those ideas. Board Chairman Joe Ostuni Jr. repeatedly asked Cottengim for details about the operation’s academic role including enrollment, class lists and accreditation. Planner Sam Reppi suggested that, to decrease the number of trucks onsite, American High explore nearby vacant commercial sites for overnight parking. Another planning board member, Bob Bradt, suggested that American High provide an emergency telephone number which
neighbors could use to instantly register complaints. “You have to show you care,” Bradt told Cottengim. “We’re all members of this community together. You need to be a part of that.” The planning board will likely continue this discussion at its April 25 meeting. Cottengim said that he, plus building manager Paul Stacey and the academy staff would “work hard to remedy these mistakes and address the root causes.” In August 2020, Garelick announced that the high cost of complying with village and state codes prompted him to put the Liverpool property up for sale, but his company continues to churn out movies. Several of American High’s 10 teen-oriented rom-coms – notably Pete Davidson’s “Big Time Adolescence” and Patton Oswalt’s “I Love My Dad” – have screened at prestigious festivals and found receptive audiences on video-ondemand streaming services.

In a March 22 email to the Star-Review, American High CEO Jeremy Garelick addressed the issues facing his film company and trade school: “We are, despite the challenges brought about by COVID, pushing ahead to deliver on the promise we made four years ago. We still have a long way to go before we reach our goal of fully creating the ecosystem between our academy and our production output. “Our dream of creating the greatest film school and combining it with the greatest studio is still very achievable. “As far as selling the building goes, we really want to stay and we believe the majority of residents of Liverpool enjoy having us there. “We are trying our best to work with [Codes Officer] Bill Reagan, Mayor White

Hope Network holds 15th annual spa day for moms By Ashley M. Casey Associate Editor
Like many events during the coronavirus pandemic, Hope Network’s annual spa day for mothers of special needs children was forced to take a hiatus. After two years, the 15th annual event was held April 6 to give extraordinary mothers an extraordinary day. Based within Northside Church in Liverpool, Hope Network is a faithbased organization that offers support to families living with disabilities. According to Gretchen Ziegler, a Baldwinsville resident who volunteers for Hope Network, the core group of women who lead Hope Network — Lori Sill, Lisa Wildrick, Janice Wyatt and Dawn Corso — have done their best to maintain a connection among the families they serve during the isolation of the pandemic. “They’ve been trying to keep moms together as much as possible,” Ziegler said. “We’ve done some Zoom meetings.” Some of these women — like Sill and Wildrick — know first-hand what
it is like to have a disabled child. “[Lori] throws herself into serving other moms,” Ziegler said. “They get it from the inside out, and yet they have the energy and compassion to give back.” Hope Network invited massage and cosmetology students from BOCES to pamper about 60 to 80 moms. Ziegler said the network sent out 100 invitations. Volunteers made brunch, and there was music and a prayer area for attendees to use if they wish. Ziegler also expressed her admiration for the local businesses who have donated to the spa day. Among those businesses are Angry Garlic and Sweet Dream Candy Shoppe in Baldwinsville as well as Bagelicious and Café at 407 in Liverpool. “To see these little businesses that are struggling through the pandemic generously giving — whether it’s a gift card or dinner at Angry Garlic — I’m just thrilled to be a part of it,” Ziegler said. Local artists featured in Schweinfurth exhibit
A visitor to “Made in NY 2022” at the Schweinfurth Art Center will be struck by the number of artists who feature people in their pieces. An earthenware woman’s face created by Zara Bronwyn Davis cries flower tears as it hangs on the wall. A woven tapestry of faces – some smiling, some not – created by Ruth Manning hangs nearby. Sofía Luz Pérez examines her indigenous Mexican heritage in a self-portrait painting that surrounds her with Aztec symbols. These are among 77 artworks by 70 artists that were selected for the 26th annual “Made in NY” exhibition. The art center received a record number of entries: 412 artists submitted thousands of photographs for the show, which was juried by Ellen M. Blalock, Gina Murtagh, and Kim Waale. The exhibit opened March 26 with an opening reception from 5 to 8 p.m., and will close May 15. Also on display is “Recycled Light” by Lorne Covington of Skaneateles and “Im-pressed Muses” by Victoria Savka of Owasco. “We were thrilled with the number of artists submitting works,” said Executive Director Donna Lamb. “There is so much artistic talent in New York State, so it was hard to settle on just a fraction of the entries to display in this year’s show.” Pérez’s artwork has long been about her Mexican heritage, but her current
work stems from her experience being diagnosed with a brain tumor. “I address both the physical and emotional aspects of the healing process I went through in the aftermath,” she said. “I began drawing self-portraits to document this process.” Her painting shows a woman holding a flower with a determined look on her face. She sports flower tattoos on her shoulder and arm. Flowers were important to the Aztecs, with the nobility growing lush gardens. They are often found in Aztec art and were used as symbols for a wide range of subjects, including gods, warfare, and passions. “My work is autobiographical; however, it has universal qualities,” Perez said. “I often portray myself in the face of adversity but with a strong, stoic resolve.” The art center is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays and 1 to 5 p.m. Sundays. Admission is $10 per person. The art center is also selling a combination ticket for $15 that gains access to the art center and the Cayuga Museum of History & Art, which is located next door to the Schweinfurth. T Poison prevention
here was a time in the 1960s and 70s when I thought that I was a good cook. Of course those were the times when gourmet cooking meant using canned soups to thicken your sauces, or as the sauce itself. You may dispute me, but I have a cookbook, entitled “Gourmet Cooking” that includes a recipe for pork chops slathered in a sauce make from tomato soup and Worcestershire sauce. Just typing that makes me shiver. This was also the era of Jello-based salads and desserts. Some of us remember the seductive commercials that had Sterling Holloways’ voice enticing you into wanting layers of Jello, molded Jello , blocks of Jello or a mousse created from Jello and whipped topping that came in a box. More shivers… Of course you could match Jello commercials with Ed Herlihy’s velvet invitation to dishes made with Kraft cheeses that made Velveeta into a tantalizing all-purpose cheese substitute. Remember the famous dip created by mixing melted Velveeta and a can of diced tomatoes with chilies? To be totally transparent, I do have Jello in my pantry. My grandsons love it and, last summer, I resurrected a Jello fruit salad from a recipe that my neighbor gave me when we moved into this house a zillion years ago. So, here I am, brought to the sense that I am not an especially good cook. Ok, there are few items that I am not ashamed to serve my family and friends, but I no longer am enticed by the need to excel at recipes that are novel, exciting and require odd ingredients. The challenge of shiny magazines or the luscious offerings of Food TV
According to poisonhelp.hrsa.gov, in 1961, Congress established National Poison Prevention Week to raise awareness, reduce unintentional poisonings, and promote poison prevention. The website goes on to say that this effort is sponsored by the National Poison Prevention Week Council. Each year, the council holds a children’s artwork contest to raise awareness about poisons. Additionally, poison centers across the country conduct activities to raise awareness of the dangers of poisoning. While this week is officially acknowledged as the third week in March, it is an issue that is not limited to just a week and is well worth being aware of year round. President Joe Biden shared some statistics in his proclamation in March. Biden said each year, more than 2 million poisoning cases are reported in the United States — some of which are tragically fatal, but many of which are preventable. While we have made great strides in the decades since National Poison Prevention Week was first observed 60 years ago — including a decline in unintentional poisoning — poisoning remains a risk, especially for children and older Americans, Biden said. During National Poison Prevention Week, we raise awareness about the dangers posed by poisonous substances, precautions people can take to prevent an incident, and how to respond in a poison emergency, Biden said. His proclamation said each year, an average of 31 children die from unintended poisonings at home, and an estimated 75,000 children under the age of five end up in hospital emergency departments from poisoning. Approximately 85 percent of unintentional poisonings take place in the home where medicines and harmful chemicals are stored. The president said to help prevent children from unintentionally ingesting poisonous household products, it is important to keep these products out of their sight and beyond their reach. Items such as hand sanitizer, laundry detergent, medications, coin cell batteries, cleaning products, and liquid nicotine should be stored in child-resistant packaging. Medications should be safely secured, and if unused, properly discarded. For elderly Americans — particularly those who may have become isolated due to the pandemic — it is important that household products are secured in their original packaging and that medications are clearly labeled to avoid accidental ingestion or the mistaking of medications, Biden said. The disposal of prescriptions and other medications is an area that can be of particular concern. While it is recommended that medications be taken until finished unless otherwise advised by a medical professional, it is not uncommon for medications to be leftover and it is difficult to know what to do with these as they should not simply be thrown out of washed down the drain. In some communities police stations or other locations have drop boxes that allow for medications and other substances to be dropped off anonymously. In some instances pharmacies like Kinney Drugs have established disposal locations. Coinciding with prevention week, Kinney announced it will offer kiosks to dispose of unneeded medications, including leftover and expired medications. The kiosks accept prescription and over-thecounter medications for both humans and pets, including controlled substances. The kiosks are not for disposal of sharps/ needles (including EpiPens), medical/biohazardous waste, regular or hazardous household trash, or personal care products. The president went on to say healthcare professionals work around the clock addressing poisonings and he said that if anyone suspects a poisoning to call the Poison Control Help line at 1-800-222-1222. Biden said raising awareness is crucial to saving lives and these resources can help people learn more about what they can do to keep themselves and others safe.

no longer can induce me to attempt the newest culinary fads. I do, however, print out recipes from the internet, perhaps too often. I have hundreds of them stashed on a bookcase in the kitchen. I use about 10 of them with some regularity. The rest? Well, it’s one of those “it looked good at the time” things. I also read and save recipes from a few periodicals, far less these days, since so many of them are now relying on herbs and spices that I don’t have, and I find that most of the stores where I shop don’t have them either. One of these spices, sumac, is derived from sumac shrubs that grow along our roadways, but I also know that there are two kinds of sumac and one can bring all recipe testing and breathing to a close, so I haven’t tried to harvest my own in order to concoct one of the more au courant recipes. I still haven’t figured out what to do with leftover xawaash, a spice that came with one of those pre-prepped meals that are delivered to your door. By the way, those meals aren’t bad at all. A tad bit on the pricey side, but the few that I purchased were considered to be a mini vacation for me … very mini since I still had to cook and clean up. There I go off subject again. Yesterday, I received my latest Living magazine in the mail. On page 13 Martha has a picture of the sandwich that she makes using eggs. I, too, make a sandwich that uses eggs. There are several differences between Martha’s sandwich and
mine. First, she uses eggs from her chickens. I do not have chickens. Five cats is more than I can handle. She bakes a delicate custard for the innards of the sandwich. I boil, peel and mash two eggs mixed with mayo, salt and pepper as the filling. She adds hand-picked water cress while I use whatever green leaf is in the crisper (and is still crisp). And the bread? I use Heidleberg peasant bread (from Nojaims in Marcellus) She uses Japanese Milk Bread. Are you kidding? Where does one or anyone find Japanese Milk Bread? I know that Nojaim’s doesn’t carry it. Neither does Walmart, Aldi’s, Tops or Wegmans. I can just imagine what that bread costs. My family and friends will have to be satisfied with the very ordinary, the lost-in-thepast simple comestibles that are reflected in my pantry, which is basically the same as my mother’s - no canned soups, sumac or Japanese Milk Bread. Of course there is that xawaash. How long is it before you can throw a spice out? More about Jello … my students should remember this. The product named Jello, a fruit dessert, was created by Pearle Wait in 1897 but the process of using gelatin (don’t ask how it’s made) to solidify liquids was created by Peter Cooper in the 1850s. Mr. Cooper was also the designer of “Tom Thumb,” the first steam locomotive in the U.S., and he ran for President in 1876. Ann Ferro is a mother, a grandmother and a retired social studies teacher. Hope Café opens second location on Route 57 One of the most progressive small businesses in Liverpool – Hope Café and Tea House – opened a second location on March 29. Owner/chef Matt Cullipher has taken over at the previous site of Mark’s Pizzeria at 8223 Oswego Road, in the town of Clay. Last year, after four years at the Village Mall, Cullipher moved his flagship location to 920 Old Liverpool Road. After originally opening its doors at the Village Mall, 305 Vine St., on Aug. 18, 2017, Hope Café was chosen by voters in the 2018 Syracuse New Times Best Of poll as the Best Vegan Restaurant in Central NY and the Best New Restaurant.

The Syracuse Mets were scheduled to open their 2022 International League season on April 5 at NBT Bank Stadium vs. the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (the Triple-A Yankees). The Syracuse Mets are introducing two new local food options to NBT Bank Stadium for the 2022 baseball season. Danny’s Steaks will be located down the left-field line behind the Left Field Terrace. HISTORY Baldwinsville History Mystery
Do you know anything about this picture?
Question: This couple lived in Plainville for several years. Do you know anything about them? Last week’s answer: The house featured in last week’s mystery photo is located at 17 North St., the northwest corner of West Genesee and North streets. Built in 1867 by Samuel Bisdee, the structure’s architectural design made it a popular topic of conversation. This was the first octagon house built in the village. History would show that it was the only octagon house to be built in the village. The octagon design for residences was introduced by Orson S. Fowler. Born in 1809, Fowler pursued several careers beginning with a brief interest in the ministry A colleague of both Henry Ward Beecher and Walt Whitman, Fowler became an advocate for cultural change embracing movements from dress reform and anti-lacing to vegetarianism, water cure and teetotalism. His specialty was sex education. Fowler established himself as a phrenologist, one who diagnoses character and medical conditions based upon a study of the subject’s skull. Fowler felt there was a parallel between the round shape of the skull and the earth and concluded that a house that was as round as possible would be ideal for harmonious living. The roof should be relatively flat in keeping with the structure’s spherical shape. Fowler’s career as an amateur architect was launched in 1848 with the publication of “A Home for All, or a New, Cheap, Convenient and Superior Mode of Building.” A new edition was
released five years later with a shortened title: “The Octagon House, A Home for All.” Fowler’s eightsided house offered more square feet of space with fewer feet of exterior walls than a conventional rectangular house. Interior space could be divided by four resulting in rooms with unusual angles in the corners. These corners could be used as closets or cupboards. A center staircase offered efficient access to every floor. Above this a windowed dome provided light and ventilation to the home’s interior. The design could be reduced or enlarged depending upon the homeowner’s needs and budget. As a consequence, these homes ranged from very modest one-story structures to elaborate mansions. The octagon house was a dramatic change from the popular styles of the day. Greek revival, cottage designs and Victorian architecture evolved while the eight-sided house remained the same. The octagon design was adapted for structures ranging from churches and schools, to barns, windmills, smokehouses, pigsties and even séance chambers. Mark Twain’s study in Elmira is a well-known octagon structure. Eventually additions were built to expand many of the octagons and their visual identity was lost. The style, dubbed by some as a fad, raged across the East coast
throughout the 1850s and ‘60s. Its popularity faded in the early 1900’s. Most octagons were built New York. Readily identifiable octagons may be found nearby today. There are two others in the Greater Baldwinsville area, one in Plainville and one in Lysander between Plainville and Lysander hamlet. The North Street home was built by Samuel (Sam) Bisdee, a man of extensive business pursuits. In 1866 Bisdee purchased the corner lots on the north side of North and West Genesee streets. By 1874 he owned and had developed all the lots at the intersection. The resulting homes reflected common architectural styles of the day, except for the one at 17 North St. The eight-sided house was a village oddity and attraction. Its first occupant was Mr. W.A. Welch, principal of the Baldwinsville Academy. The Gazette stated “(it is) hoped that Mr. Welch would not get lost while straying into some of its numerous corners.” Additions and plantings over the last century have obscured the original design of the house until recently. Exterior work was
begun and trees were removed, leaving the distinctive octagon characteristics visible on the building’s east side. Samuel Bisdee died July 5, 1891, at the age of 75. Historical Association/Town of Clay. Although over the years, the park had a railroad station, log cabin, and welcome center, it needed a barn for all the farm equipment that had been donated. It was right across Route 31 — the Weller Barn! Plans were made to move it. Only the main barn was sturdy enough. The additions and the roof and upper part of the barn were left behind. The Town of Clay Highway Department was in charge of repairs and they did a magical job restoring it. The cement floor was poured in 2006. Some of the features and antiques it houses are: sleighs, farm equipment, and machinery, tools, wagons, two cow stanchions, a goat milking stand, a

23, 1881. Thomas Sellens, on Nov. 17, 1894, made out a will giving the use of the farm to their, daughter, Mary E. Sellens Weller, who had married Lambert Weller. Upon her passing, it was to be left to her children. Thomas passed away on Nov. 18, 1897. Many buyers of a part of the Sellens property sold it back to Mary for a dollar. In August of 1900, the Oneida Lake Natural Gas Co. leased the land to dig for gas and oil on the property. Although they did dig a gas well, nothing more was heard. The Salmon River Power Company received a right-ofway to cross the property in 1913. Electricity came to Clay! Mary E. Weller passed away on May 19, 1955, and the property was divided among their four daughters. Emmer E. Weller Zoller, Grace M. Weller Hughson, Cora M. Weller Driscoll and Clara O. Weller Kretchman each paid a dollar. This was recorded on July 13, 1936. However, in 1936 they sold the property for back taxes they were unable to pay. No one liked it but this was the Depression and everyone needed money to survive. The Melvins bought the property, leaving the houses and small yards for the owners of the property. The story of the Weller Barn continues. Merle Melvin had donated back some of the land for a historic park to the Clay

Question: What occasion led these people to gather for a photo? Do you know where and when the photo was taken? Check their outfits for some hints! Last week’s answer: This barn is on Route 31 in the Clay Historic Park. But, it has a long history before it found its permanent home and was known as the Weller Barn. It begins with the christening of Thomas Sellens on April 30, 1826, in East Hoathly Sussex, England. Thomas’ parents, John and Mary Holman Sellens brought their family to America in 1830 on the ship, the Hibernia, docking in New York City. The 1840 census shows them living in New Hartford, New York. Around 1840, John and his family moved to Clay. He bought around 90 acres, including Military Lot 39 and adjacent property. He built the yellow brick house on the north side of Route 31 and across the road, he built the barn. The barn could house around 20 cows and a few young calves. Hay was stored on the upper floor. It had a cement floor with gutters and a unique manure carrier that was on a track carrying a wooden basket and was pulled back and forth by a chain. The track could still be seen near the ceiling for many years. When
Lambert Weller owned he farm, he would go to Onondaga Hill to purchase “real nice” Jersey cows. The barn had to be added on to at least twice for the added livestock over the years. Mary Sellens passed away Aug. 15, 1844, and is buried in Pine Plains Cemetery. John and the children kept the farm going until 1851, when he sold the land to his son, Thomas J. Sellens. John and at least three of the children moved to Iowa, leaving Thomas and the other remaining children on the farm. In April 1852, Thomas married Gitty Ann Vanderworken. They sold some of the land to Jacob W. Coughtry on Dec. 13, 1855. On Jan. 4, 1871, the Syracuse Northern Railroad bought about four acres of land from Thomas Sellens with the land being about 35 feet wide at the north east end and 45 feet wide at the southwest end for $450. Thomas and Gitty Ann sold land on the north side of Route 31 to Jacob W. Coughtry and John W. Coughtry for their tobacco business, about 3 ½ acres along the east side of the railroad tracks with a note added to the deed. It read: “It is hereby agreed by and between the parties to this conveyance that neither the said premises nor any part of them are to be used for the Sale of intoxicating liquors as a beverage during the lifetime of either of the said parties of the first part.” This was recorded Nov.

SECNY announces Fairmount branch to open

OBITUARIES Charles S. Trexler Loving grandfather
Charles Stanley Trexler passed away surrounded by family on March 14, 2022. “Chuck” was born on March 19, 1951, to Charles W. and Muriel A. Trexler. He grew up in Baldwinsville with his nine siblings,
Linda, Arlene, Stella, Diane, Keith, Chris, Kim, Teresa and Mark. After graduating high school in 1969 he served two years in the United States Marine Corp. Chuck graduated from Morrisville College before working for different golf courses, Caryl Electric, Carrier Corporation and
IBEW Local 43. He retired from Vibra Healthcare in 2017. Chuck was known for his empathetic spirit and great hugs. We will miss his silly voicemails wishing us a happy birthday. In Chuck’s younger years he loved riding motorcycles with his brothers, son and friends.

C-NS, Liverpool lax get opening wins by Phil Blackwell A return to high school lacrosse in 2021 produced, for area fans, a memorable run by Cicero-North Syracuse to the Section III Class A championship that included an overtime victory over rival Liverpool. When they both started again in 2022, the outcomes were quite different. C-NS, returning several key players from its championship run, took a road trip to the Rochester area and, in last Friday’s opener, took a 9-6 defeat to Victor. The Northstars bounced back against Penfield a day later, topping the Patriots 13-7 as its attack fared much better amid warmer temperatures and lighter winds. Fran Tortora dished out six assists to go with her pair of goals. Brooke Molchanoff and Mackenzie Prentice both finished with three goals and two assists as Sophia Nesci converted twice. Tori Iannotti, Gabby Putman and Shea Firth had one goal apiece. Meanwhile, Liverpool began its season with a trip to Rome Free Academy that proved quite successful, the Warriors handling the Black Knights 18-6. Maggie Tifft, with five goals and one assist, and Abby Geary, with three goals and four assists, paced Liverpool. Mia Berthoff got three goals and two assists as Gianna Carbone notched three goals. Lana Alampi had two goals and two assists. Michelle Sacco added two goals. It was also the opening day for the C-NS and Liverpool boys lacrosse teams, both of which put together impressive performances under different circumstances. C-NS’s first test with this new staff was against Section II’s Bethlehem at Bragman Stadium, and while it was close most of the way, the Northstars’ strong second-quarter move was pivotal in an 11-7 win over the Eagles. Tied 2-2 after one period, C-NS proceeded to outscore Bethlehem 5-2 the rest of the half, and would manage to answer each time the Eagles tried to make it close throughout the second half. Josh Kubala set the tone, winning six of the seven face-offs he took and picking up 10 ground balls to set up opportunities for his Northstars teammates. On the attack, Mason Blakeman and Ian Leahey did most of the work, Blakeman getting five goals and Leahey adding four goals as Eljiah Martin had one goal and two assists. Michael Koehler put in the other goal and Tyler Milewski stopped 12 of Bethlehem’s 19 shots. Liverpool is looking to bounce back from a 3-13 season a year ago, and made quite an impressive opening statement when it went to Westhill and claimed this clash of Warrior sides 16-8. Westhill won the sectional Class D title in 2021, but that didn’t matter much to Liverpool, who gradually built up a 7-4 halftime advantage and then settled matters with a 6-1 third-quarter blitz. The trio of Joe Sacco, Aaron Clouthier and Jackson Furr each put up four goals. Clouthier tacked on three assists as Owen Michaud had a goal and two assists. Single goals also went to Jake Socker, Dom Osbeck and Gavin Kenna, while Jalen Graham, fresh off his state and national titles in the weight throw during indoor track season, picked up nine ground balls. Owen Salanger and Mark Matott combined for 10 saves.

Create a Cat Castle will help kick off Spring Break @ LPL at 10 a.m. Monday, April 11, in the Carman Community Room. The whole family can help celebrate National Pet Week by collaborating on the creation of a castle fit for your feline. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Also on the schedule that day is Edible Science, at 1:30 p.m. on Zoom. This will allow the worlds of science and food to intersect for children. 8s Math Fun, at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 13, in the Carman Community Room. This isn’t any old classroom arithmetic. After some Crazy 8s games that add fun to the subject, a giant floor-dart game will coordinate goodtime skills. Dog Man vs. Cat Kid will allow Dav Pilkey fans to voice their support for their favorite character at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, April 14, in the Carman Community Room. Celebrate both with activities before the debate and vote. Egg-cellent Eggs brings out new decorating techniques at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 15, in the Carman Community Room.
