‘Plunge into
Spring’ The Y invites its supporters to jump into Cazenovia Lake Sunday BY KATE HILL STAFF WRITER The YMCA of Central New York is raising money to support its community programs by inviting members of the public to “take the plunge” by jumping into Cazenovia Lake on Saturday, March 23. The event will take place at noon in Lakeland Park at 11 Forman St. in Cazenovia. Supporters can participate as individuals or as teams. The cost is $50 per adult and $25 per youth. Ticket sales end on March 22 at noon. “Our mission is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind, and body for all,” said Jennifer Hughes, the director of health and wellness and a multi-sport director at YMCA of CNY. “[This is achieved] by going out into
the community and building relationships and helping others. We are not just a gym and swim. Yes, we have [buildings], but we are out in the community also.” All proceeds from the “Plunge into Spring” event will benefit the Y’s Annual Campaign, which helps support many of the organization’s community programs, including its “Safety Around Water” (SAW) YMCA l Page 2

Superintendent clears up Cazenovia Public Library looks misinformation regarding turf forward to the April 2024 solar eclipse field project and budget gap By kate hill Staff writer
During the March 18 Cazenovia Central School District Board of Education (CCSD BOE) meeting, Superintendent Christopher DiFulvio addressed some misinformation circulating on social media that has inaccurately linked CCSD’s turf field project to the $1.85 million budget gap facing the district for the 2024-25 school year. According to CCSD’s March newsletter, the district’s ongoing budget process has been significantly impacted by recent financial challenges presented by New York State. “We’ve explored creative solutions to preserve our programming over the past several years,” DiFulvio wrote in the newsletter. “However, the governor’s proposed budget has added complexity to our ability to remain innovative. Currently,
we are conducting a thorough examination of our line-by-line budget, and unfortunately, a $1.85 million gap exists.” According to DiFulvio, more than half of the school districts across the state are facing similar financial challenges. CCSD’s athletic field modifications are part of a $10,713,319 Phase II Capital Project aimed at modernizing the physical education, athletics, and community facilities at the Emory Avenue Complex. The project was approved by a capital project referendum vote in March 2022. The upper turf multi-use field has been completed and used frequently by physical education classes, community members, and multiple sports teams. The district anticipates an Aug. 1 completion date for the lower field and track.
