Swim Lesson sign up will begin for children 5 years old and up on May 16th. You can sign up for swim lessons in person or by calling Waterfront Park 904-621-8362 on or after May 16th. We will take 40 children for the first session and have a waitlist for all others.

Eagle Harbor Aquatics is hiring LIFEGUARDS! Jump into fun this summer with the best team of whistleblowers on the island! Lifeguards oversee the safety of residents at all Eagle Harbor pools, assist with Eagle Harbor special events and maintain cleanliness of the facilities. Lifeguards are responsible for enforcing rules, regulations and policies and monitoring designated areas to recognize signs of danger. Certified Lifeguards must have Red Cross Lifeguard and CPR Certification for the Professional Rescuer. Lifeguard certification classes will be held

The Blitz is a member-based group with a mix of residents and regular subscribers that play all year long for a chance to compete in the finale. Winning the first day, Greg Forrest dominated by playing well beyond his handicap with a +11 Stableford Score. Ben Parmer and Dave Smith finished 2nd with +6. The field would carry those total over to the following day. Greg Forrest was -3 the 2nd day for but was enough to hold on for victory at +8, which was a 1 point victory over Ben Parmer +7. Louie Warner finished 3rd with consistent play with +2 and 4th was held by Dave Smith +1.

Brian Damon has been teaching the game since 1996 and was NENYPGA Teacher of the Year in 2007 and 2008. He enjoys working with all types of golfers, from beginner, junior, women and past resume includes collegians and professional tour players. Brian’s philosophy is good fundamentals, working with player preferences and establishing player knowledge, which relies less on player fixes and more on players being their own coach. Eagle Harbor SLOW DOWN! School will be out for summer soon, and while we should always be aware of the speed limits, it’s even more important now that students will be out and about on bikes and darting across the street in pursuit of summer fun. Speed limits are 30mph on the Parkway and 25mph in individual neighborhoods. Today’s young people have many distractions available to them, they’re off on adventures and they may not always be aware of their surroundings. For the safety of everyone, we ask that motorists watch out for pedestrians when driving through the community.

Fishing in the Ponds Good weather has seen an increase in both resident and non-resident fishing in our community retention ponds. While ponds located on CDD property are welcome spots for all, ponds located behind a resident’s home are private

Florida Safe Passing Laws: Florida requires the driver of a vehicle overtaking a bicycle or other non-motorized vehicle must pass the bicycle or other nonmotorized vehicle at a safe distance of not less than 3 feet between the vehicle and the bicycle or other non-motorized vehicle. Source: Fla. Stat. §316.083 Florida Helmet Law: Florida requires that any person under the age of 16 riding a bicycle, as an operator or passenger, must wear a protective bicycle helmet. The failure of a person to wear a bicycle helmet or the failure of a parent or guardian to prevent a child from riding a bicycle without a bicycle helmet may not be considered evidence of negligence or contributory negligence. Where to Ride: Florida requires that a bicyclist, traveling at a speed less than the speed of traffic, must ride as close as practicable to the right-hand edge of the roadway except under any of the following circumstances: • When overtaking and passing another bicycle or vehicle proceeding in the same direction; • When preparing for a left turn at an intersection or into a private road or driveway; • When reasonably necessary to avoid any unsafe condition or potential conflict, including one caused by a lane that is too narrow for a bicycle and another vehicle to travel safely side by side within the lane; or • When a bicycle lane is available. • A person propelling a vehicle by human power upon and along a sidewalk, or across a roadway upon and along a crosswalk, has all the rights and duties applicable to a pedestrian under the same circumstances; and • A person propelling a bicycle upon and along a sidewalk, or across a roadway upon and along a crosswalk, shall yield the right-of-way to any pedestrian and shall give an audible signal before overtaking and passing such pedestrian. Bicycling Under the Influence: In Florida, bicycles are defined as vehicles. Florida's law prohibiting driving while under the influence of alcohol or other controlled substances is written so that it applies to all vehicles and therefore applies to bicyclists. Bicycles should not be operated while intoxicated and operating a bicycle while under the influence of alcohol or other controlled substances may result in severe punishments. Source: Fla. Requirement to Stop: Florida does not provide any modifications to the requirement to come to a complete stop when directed to stop by traffic control devices and does not authorize bicyclists to disobey traffic lights that fail to detect bicyclists. Treatment as a Vehicle: In Florida bicycles are vehicles according to the statute that defines vehicles and a person riding a bicycle has all of the rights and duties of the driver of a vehicle as provided in Chapter 316 of the Florida Statutes, except as to those provisions which by their nature can have no application.
