Recently, Player Engagement Consultant Peter Weisel shared an email he received after the PGA Jr. League National Championship. This particular note was directed toward the PGA Junior League. Still, the message is indicative of how so many of the aspiring young golfers, their families, and PGA Members feel about the work done by PGA Section Teams, all of the PGA’s Consultants and Field Staff, and the Leadership that makes it possible.
Golf has always been hard for us financially We live by pretty modest means and travel 1-2.5 hours to everything he does. PGA Reach has helped us out multiple times with grants for his SOPGA tournaments. When the kids qualified for PGA Jr. League Nationals I had to tell coach that I wouldn't be making the trip. I was out of days to take off and just generally couldn't afford it. I told him that we were sending Lucas down by himself to my friend Hagan who could get him everywhere he needed to go for the week. Chris reached out to me a couple days later and offered us a PGA Reach grant to stay at the resort as a family and with the team.
The week we spent down there as a family was unforgettable. Lucas and his teammates had the time of their lives down there and made memories that will last them forever. I will also never forget all the moments I got to experience. I feel so blessed to have seen up close what you and all the great PGA staff and volunteers I met throughout the week did for the kids and feel equally blessed that I got to witness the great competition all the kids put on. I met multiple PGA members and volunteers that I will never forget
Lucas also came down a week early courtesy of Hagan Hagan took him into his house and took him to HQ. He is so grateful for the time he got to spend don there for the entire two weeks. The graciousness the staff showed him to use facilities to practice and all the familiar faces around the tournament the next week really put him at ease and he played some of the best golf of his life because of it.
Over the last four years while playing Jr. League Lucas has learned qualities of teamwork and leadership. Without Jr. League he would've spent much of that time by himself playing golf. The bonds with the other kids, the guidance of Chris Yoder, and becoming the leader of his team this year have really helped shape him into a very confident and independent young man.
I truly can't express to you how much help the PGA and its members have helped us as a family and Lucas as a golfer and young man. They have been there for us on every step of his journey and I don't know where we'd be without them I don't put words to paper much so feel free to reach out for clarification or details on anything else It was great to meet you and we are so grateful for everything we got to experience down there all thanks to the PGA. Hope you have a happy and safe Thanksgiving. - Bill Massa
