The day was magical as we waltzed through the enchanting event spaces of 116 Pall Mall in London to create a romantic ceremony and intimate reception, perfect for this time of year. Millie and her stylist Ryan Young worked closely with Galia Lahav’s very own Sharon Sever to create a timeless look which showcased Millie’s personality and elegance.
Millie’s custom gown, a unique adaptation of the Anais dress, featured an ivory-lined, corseted drop-waist bodice that transitioned into a form-fitting fishtail skirt. Deviating from the original open-back design, Millie opted for a full lace back adorned with silk buttons extending the length of the zipper. Dame is really special to me; it’s a soft Chantilly lace ballgown with beautiful thread embroidery, plus it has a detachable underbust corset and overskirt that transforms it into a fit-andflare gown with a pointed basque waist, which makes it so versatile and unique. “It must have begun in the womb! I was born the day of my mother’s first independent fashion show, so you could say it runs in my DNA. I grew up in awe of my mum who raised my siblings and I herself, with some help from my nan, Mormor, a brilliant lady who made her own wedding dress - a clear red thread to me! Fashion for me and my family was a means to refocus, to aspire and a way for Isabell to dream. Relaunching Isabell Kristensen Couture in the UK was a mission for me and London was the perfect choice due to its dynamic energy that we needed for global expansion. Ultimately, the dedicated bridal line was important for me because I am enamoured with true love. It is the same for design, I draw on the purest form of that feeling, first remembered from when I was 13 and fell in love for the first time, she and I are still together. It is that same love I am fortunate to see every time I look in my daughter Wilhelmina's eyes. That interminable, everlasting, evolving love is the feeling I want to capture in needle and thread.”
ARE THERE ANY PARTICULAR DESIGNERS OR ERAS THAT INFLUENCE YOUR STYLE?
“For designers, it would have to be Charles Frederick Worth, Norman Hartnell and Roberto Capucci. Each one is a master of structure and innovation with a remarkable ability to translate beauty into exquisite couture designs. I admire designers who look to the world around them in art, architecture
and nature for inspiration, such as the wrought iron balconies of Paris for the House of Worth and the beauty of a Doric column for Capucci. I am also forever a child of the 90s. That resurgence of British creativity that fed into fashion, with greats like McQueen and Westwood bringing forth an exciting era of rebirth.”
HOW IMPORTANT IS SUSTAINABILITY IN THE WEDDING INDUSTRY TO YOU?
“Very important. A wedding is a focus towards the future and as couture is the slowest form of fashion, we aren’t plagued by the wastage and problems of fast fashion. But our sector is not without its issues, the greatest challenge is the quality of luxury materials available within high fashion; sustainable alternatives are improving but limited. Some forms of recycling waste are more appealing,
like a mill I am speaking to in Italy using orange peel! I find sourcing from new, responsible and renewable suppliers helps motivate the industry more.”
DO YOU HAVE A FAVOURITE STYLE FROM YOUR LATEST COLLECTION?
“I love 100% of our collections but I do have a bias towards the pieces that were hardest to make - we’re talking craftsmanship, boned structures, handsewing and fabric manipulation. I love the process and love the craft, sometimes more than the finished product! That said, I do love my teacups! While complex, there’s a harmonious simplicity to their construction that’s endearingly alluring and inviting to brides.”
HOW DO YOU SEE THE BRAND EVOLVING IN FUTURE?

Kristensen Couture to be invited to Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week alongside greats like Vivienne Westwood and The Atelier by Jimmy Choo, but I still have so much to do! Fortunately, two of the first collection designs were spotted and featured in British Vogue which I took as a sign from the fashion gods to crack on. The sense of mission has never been stronger, bringing fairy tales to life and evolving a boutique brand into the legacy my family and the House deserves. Bridal is the first step in that expansion towards luxury RTW ranges with special order capabilities the world over. Bridal as an industry is well set-up to receive a couture brand operating on this basis but our fashion RTW expansion will follow. Watch this space.”

“I built my brand from a personal need - designing my own wedding gown after struggling to find one I loved. With a background in graphic design and hands-on experience in bridal salons, I launched my couture label around 2011, emphasising timeless elegance, handcrafted quality and made-inAmerica production using fine French and Italian fabrics. My aesthetic quickly gained recognition, with my gowns featured in top bridal magazines and worn by celebrities. I grew my brand through media exposure, trunk shows and exceptional craftsmanship, eventually opening flagship salons and expanding into eveningwear and luxury bridal robes, establishing my brand as a respected name in the bridal fashion world.”
IS GLAMOUR ALWAYS A CONSIDERATION WHEN CURATING COLLECTIONS?
“Absolutely! I’ve always been inspired by the timeless elegance of Hollywood icons like Grace Kelly, Audrey Hepburn and Lauren Bacall. There’s a grace and sophistication they carried that transcends trends and that’s the kind of glamour I try to channel in my collections. It’s never about being flashy; it’s about effortless beauty, refined details and the way a gown moves and makes a woman feel. When I design, I imagine a bride walking into a room and taking everyone’s breath away… not because she’s wearing something loud, but because she exudes confidence, elegance and that quiet kind of glamour that lasts forever.”
ARE THERE ANY PARTICULAR BRIDAL TRENDS YOU ARE LOVING, OR NOT, RIGHT NOW?
“I’m really loving the return to timeless elegance. Clean, classic silhouettes with beautiful seam-work, soft draping and our signature bows speak to me right now. I’ve been especially inspired by romantic textures - lace, hand-painted fabrics and delicate embellishments that feel both old-world and fresh. You’ll see more sleeves, interesting necklines and fewer strapless gowns in my collections because I believe in flattering the bride in a truly sophisticated way. One trend I’m definitely stepping away from is the overly sexy look, plunging necklines and dramatic low backs. It’s become repetitive and I believe a bride can be breathtaking without revealing everything. To me, timeless will always be in style.”
YOUR DESIGNS CARRY A FEMININE TOUCH THAT HONOURS TRADITION, HOW DO YOU BALANCE THIS?
“Honoring tradition is at the heart of everything I design. I believe femininity and tradition go hand in hand - they’re not opposing forces, but rather, they complement each other beautifully. I focus on creating gowns that feel timeless, with classic silhouettes and refined details, but I also love to incorporate soft, modern elements like delicate bows, romantic sleeves or an unexpected texture. The balance comes from knowing when to hold onto the elegance of the past and when to introduce something fresh that still feels bridal. It’s about creating a gown that a bride can look back on in 20 or 30 years and still feel proud she wore.”

“I officially stepped into the world of bridal fashion in 2014, but in truth, it’s been a part of my DNA from day one. “This balance is at the heart of everything we do. We start by honouring the traditions of bridal fashion - classic silhouettes, rich fabrics and elegant craftsmanship never go out of style. But we also listen closely to the brides of the modern world, which means incorporating modern textures, bold details and customisable elements that reflect individual spirit and current fashion movements. It’s about chasing trends; it’s about interpreting them in a way that feels authentic and enduring. Rapunzel was really onto something. It seems more than half of newly-engaged girls want hair-down-to-there.
‘Around 60% of brides coming into the salon say they’re growing their hair longer ahead of the big day,’ says superstar stylist Richard Ward.
His most famous client - Princess Kate - has a mane much coveted in prewedding circles. While hair lengths rise and fall with the trends, as far as the big day goes, there’s really no other way you want your hair to be. More length offers more styling options, even if your heart is set on an up do. ‘Many involve waving the hair first which shrinks the length, ‘ says hairdresser Melissa Timperley, ‘so having extra to start with helps.’
According to trichologist Anabel Kingsley, hair grows approximately half an inch per month. If you’re of Asian
descent your growth cycle can last up to 7 years, meaning your hair could grow up up to 3 feet long!
But growing your hair to wherever you want it for your wedding naturally won’t happen overnight. Nor will holding onto those precious six extra inches if you don’t take care of the hair you already have.
At his Long Hair Clinic in London, stylist Neil Ward has perfected how to attain and maintain long hair. He uses a technique called ‘dusting’ which involves split end removal, a conditioning treatment and a personalised home regime.
But if you’d prefer to stick with your regular hairdresser, book in for a ‘micro’ trim every 8-12 weeks. Richard advises you ‘ask for a teeny, damage-only trim and mention you’re growing it out.’
As for the shape, ‘Go for a blunt or soft V-shape to keep the ends looking thicker and healthier.’
It’s not called hair ‘care’ for nothing…
In your quest for length even Princess Kate would covet:
DO start salon visits six months before W-day for regular micro trims and conditioning treatments. ‘Split ends can split further up the hair shaft, causing more damage, so it is important to remove breakage,’ advises Anabel.
DON’T deny yourself a healthy, balanced diet. ‘Hair is considered non essential by the body, so if you’re not getting enough protein, your hair is the last to benefit,’ says Melissa. Hair growth could stall so knock back lots of protein, fatty fish, nuts and vegetables.
DO use a dry shampoo to cut down on how often you wash your hair. As long hair can look heavy, mist then massage Batiste’s sweetly-scented Blush

DON’T forget that a clean scalp is more likely to be a healthy scalp. Remove oil, grime and excess product build-up by using a clarifying shampoo like Philip Kingsley’s Flaky/Itchy Shampoo, £30 weekly.
DO blot freshly-washed hair on a microfibre towel rather than rough-drying it then use a wet brush working up from the ends, to avoid dragging any knots down your hair.
DON’T use elastics or metal hair claws which can encourage breakage or hair loss. Opt for gentle up dos and be the epitome of a style icon by using a covered scrunchie to loosely keep it in place.
DO copy Kim Kardashian and sleep on a silk pillowcase. ‘It’ll help reduce friction while you sleep, which means less breakage,’ says Melissa.
DON’T stress! Not easy when you’re planning a wedding but stress can really sabotage healthy hair growth. If you’re feeling the pressure, or are physically exhausted, it’s worth booking a visit to your GP.

How to do your own make-up like a pro

Meet Melinda, one of the best-inthe-business make-up artists who’s spent years on speed dial to fashion editors and excited brides-to-be. With beautiful, flawless, natural make-up being what she loves to do best, she gave us some insider secrets (as well as a look inside her makeup bag.)
It’s fine to do your own makeup on your wedding day…
… just make sure you’ve had a few goes at it so you’re confident going solo. Better still book yourself a makeup lesson. That way you can pick up tips and try new products you may love. Ask your friends what they think and take photos in both natural and flash light.
You want to look like you, only better… … so don’t be tempted by fashion-forward looks you’ve seen on the catwalk. Study past pictures to get an idea of what look you love on you and adapt the makeup for your bridal style.
Apply eye makeup before your base… … so you can clean away blobs or spills without ruining your foundation. Plus, when your base is in place you’ll see how dramatic your eye makeup looks.
Stick to subtly smoky shades of taupe and beige…
… starting with a mid tone blanket all the way from your upper lash line to above your socket crease. Add some shimmer at the inner corners of your eyes then take a darker tone and apply it over the outer part of your lid making sure everything is blurred together.
Wedding lashes should be three things: long, curly and black…
… either add some cluster fakes to the outer corners of your eyes or use a volumising mascara - just make sure its waterproof - and after curling to lift and fan your lashes, add thin coats in zig-zag motions to your top and bottom lashes.
A light, buildable foundation is the most flattering and photo-friendly… … so choose one without spf in a shade that seamlessly disappears into your skin applying it over primer just where you need it to even out your skin tone - typically this is around your nose, cheekbones and chin. Use a dabbing motion to push the foundation into your skin rather than wiping it all over.
Never matte down your cheeks with powder…. … keep them glossy so your cheekbones are more prominent. It’s fine to sweep some translucent powder over the central cross of
your face but don’t keep adding layers. Use non-powdered blotters to soak up shine during the day.
Don’t play with new textures on your wedding day…. … stick to what you’re used to. For instance, if you’re used to powder blushers, apply them just as you normally would but just add a little more intensity than usual so it lasts longer and prevents you looking washed out in photos.
No lip colour will look good on flaky lips… … so for at least a week before W-day, apply a lip mask before bed. Still flaky? After balm, rub them gently with a warm flannel. When it comes to colour, use a liner (in a matching shade to your lipstick) to cover your lips in a thin layer to act as a base. Two thin coats of colour are better than one thick one and if you like the feel of gloss or how it makes your lips look fuller, add a dot in the entry of your lower lip and press together.

With the dedication of an exceptional team of suppliers, we successfully brought this concept to life.
Luxury event designer, Charlotte RicardQuesada from La Fête, explains: "I wanted to create a visual story that felt both timeless and unexpected. Drawing inspiration from the regal beauty of traditional art and the soft elegance of pearls, I styled and planned an editorial that unfolded in the heart of urban London. The contrast between the grandeur of classical paintings and the raw, modern edges of the city created a rich, romantic tensionperfect for today’s bride who seeks heritage with a twist. Every detail was intentional: from pearl-dusted accessories to gowns that echoed the brushstrokes of the Old Masters, it was a celebration of refinement, femininity, and quiet power.”
The partnership was interpreted by the real couple, composed of Layla and Chris. “Now married, we cherish every chance to relive the magic of our wedding day through bridal shoots, celebrating our connection and capturing timeless moments together as husband and wife,” express Layla and Chris.
116 Pall Mall was the setting for the editorial shoot, perfectly aligning with the brief of City Elegance. Located in the heart of London and home to the Institute of Directors, this Grade I-listed Georgian building offered a refined and versatile backdrop, steeped in history and architectural beauty. The Nash and Waterloo rooms, along with the terrace and garden, provided a timeless mix of grandeur and sophistication, ideal for capturing the essence of a modern city wedding. The shoot was delivered in partnership with Searcys, their exclusive hospitality provider, with additional spaces used throughout the day to host hair, makeup and styling teams.
The KL Luxe team was behind the scenes, curating the natural glow of both the bride and groom. Laura was on hand for the day to touch up hair and makeup for an effortless look throughout the moments of the day. The team were also blessed to have M(e) & O, a freelance wedding and event planner assistant, on hand to ensure the coordination ran smoothly and La Fête could focus on bringing this extraordinary shoot to life.
To create the timeless feel, florals were a key component, and Raw Bloom brought the vision to life with their elegant and timeless bespoke arrangements. "For this shoot, we embraced a soft, romantic palette of nude tones, thoughtfully selecting seasonal blooms such as garden roses, peonies, hydrangeas, dahlias and other hand-picked flowers to bring the vision to life. Each arrangement was designed to complement the aesthetic of the day while adding a refined, organic touch. It’s always a joy to collaborate with such a talented team, and we’re so proud to see our signature style, refined yet naturally expressive, come to life in such an inspiring setting."
To accompany the romantic grandeur of the florals and venue, the details played an important role. The stationery was curated by the luxury, award-winning wedding stationery brand, Paige & Co. Their design style blends timeless elegance with modern touches, combining Fine Art paintings and hand-drawn detailed illustrations with luxurious print finishes such as hot foil and letterpress.
"For the collaboration at 116 Pall Mall, we wanted to create something romantic, artistic and ethereal, echoing the venue's interior styling and their Fine Art antique paintings. The invitation suite features a harmonious palette of soft periwinkle blue, ivory and gold foil detailing, enhanced by handmade cotton deckled-edge paper that adds organic texture. We combined ornate gold frame illustrations and rich, archival still life floral oil paintings, with shell-shaped embellishments to evoke a sense of timeless elegance and ethereal romance. Together with the Oyster shellshaped placecards and scalloped shell detailed menus, we created a collection that feels both regal and poetic — perfect for a sophisticated, art-inspired wedding."
No leaf was left unturned. Rich texture dominated the shoot, from the tableware from The Social Kitchen to the luxury linens by Chateau Noir: "For this special editorial, we were delighted to provide our signature vintage gold velvet linens, elegantly layered with a delicate lace overlay. Our focus is always on elevating the event experience through rich textures, unique designs and meticulous attention to detail."
One of the standout elements of the shoot is the four-tiered, pearl-adorned cake, carefully crafted by Peboryon. The art and pearl theme was subtly present throughout with a gentle nod, especially in the natural pearl accessories by UK designer, Debbie Carlisle. From the vegan pearl earrings to the striking birdcage veil, each design added classic romance to complement the modern and chic theme.

James had arranged a special weekend escape and informed the hotel of his proposal plans. On Saturday, after afternoon tea, they strolled through the hotel gardens despite the pouring rain. They eventually found shelter in the greenhouse, which Lucy unknowingly described as ‘romantic’ due to its decoration of petals and tealights. It was then that James proposed.
WHISKED TO PROVENCE
The couple always loved the idea of a wedding abroad during the cooler month of September and chose the south of France for its beautiful countryside, incredible wine and food, as well as the proximity to the UK. The couple share: “There were several French chateaus that were on our radar, but we kept on coming back to the same venue, Chateau de Tourreau.” The location oozed so much character, and James and Lucy were enchanted by its gardens, offering lots of areas they could adorn for their wedding day.
A WEEKEND AT THE CHATEAU
The bride and groom transformed the chateau into their private abode during their wedding weekend. They hosted an evening dinner for everyone to mingle, a beautiful wedding day amid the grounds and a fun pool party for the next day. To elevate the experience, the help of suppliers was vital. “Matthew Oliver Weddings made planning fun and easy, something that can often feel overwhelming at times, but he truly understood the brief and our vision. Musical Orphans kept everyone glued to the
dance floor. Our photographer, Roberta Facchini, and videographer, HD Moments, captured our day perfectly, minimising time away from guests,” the couple gush as they talk about their A-Team.
FROM DAY TO NIGHT
Lucy wore a delicate Suzanne Neville ballgown for her ceremony, featuring a subtle floral pattern, complemented by blue Manolo Blahnik shoes. She highly praised the exceptional team at Suzanne Neville London for her wedding dress experience. As evening approached, Lucy changed into a The Own Studio dress, ready to dance the night away! Her bridesmaids wore hand-picked gowns in various green tones, specifically chosen to complement the venue’s chic green shutters.

Music played an important role at the couple’s wedding. “Walking into the wedding breakfast to the music of Jet ‘Are You Gonna Be My Girl,’ it created an electric atmosphere which was simply unforgettable. For our first dance, we selected Barry White’s ‘My First, My Last, My Everything.’ We actually made our own choreography routine for the first part of the dance which we’d practiced in the few weeks leading up to the wedding. We both have two left feet and it was extremely amateur so provided a lot of entertainment for the guests watching,” both laugh as they reminisce.

The couple wanted to celebrate the chic and timeless beauty of their venue, sticking to a white and green colour scheme that included pops of pink for a classy twist. A wedding day is a blur of emotion and memories, but couples often come out the other side with sage wisdom and advice to share with future newlyweds. “Our best decision was to hire a wedding planner, it made everything so organised and smooth and meant we could enjoy the day,” they told us. “It’s also so important to invest in a great wedding photographer, Roberta captured every feeling of the day effortlessly and these are priceless memories we can now treasure forever.”

Lovebirds Jess and George took three weeks off so they could fully indulge in their wedding and honeymoon bubble. “We got married on 20th July 2024 and opted for the summer so we could both take a real break from our very busy jobs,” they explained. “We had the best three weeks focused on each other and just enjoying ourselves together… plus we wanted the best shot at getting some British sunshine on the big day!”

Jess fell in love with Cornwell Manor after discovering her favourite scene from The Holiday was filmed at this very venue. “I had this in mind for years before we got engaged and knew I would love to get married there,” she reminisced. “I promise I did try to stay in the engagement bubble but I had already emailed Charlotte at Cornwell Manor within 48 hours of saying yes!” The couple loved that they could tailor the wedding to their wishes at this venue, with the chance to bring in their own suppliers and tie the knot at St. Peter’s church within the Manor grounds surrounded by their 100 nearest and dearest. Getting the wedding dress was an exciting prospect for Jess as she knew this was her chance to make the most of the moment! “Me and the girls had a mega day visiting London designers trying Sassi Holford, Halfpenny London and Suzanne Neville designs,” she gushed. “But I had always dreamed of a Suzanne
Neville gown and opted for a beautiful custom strapless dress with a removable lace jacket so I could mix it up for the party later.” Jess finished her bridal look with iconic Manolo Blahnik and Jimmy Choo shoes, with a plan to dye them so she can wear them again. George was proud to boast his two custom suits from Jack Davidson Bespoke for the rehearsal dinner and morning suit for the big day, with the groomsmen sporting individual Ferragamo ties with designs to match their personality as a gift from the couple. Champagne ivory was the colour for the bridesmaids in Maids to Measure dresses, “I wanted them to choose their own style they preferred so everyone could feel their best,” Jess smiled. The result was a beautifully curated wedding party that shone with real joy.

ALL THE LITTLE DETAILS
Jess and George’s special day was brimming with magical details that brought the celebrations to life. From the champagne tower that marked the start of married life to the harpist who set the scene at their candlelit rehearsal dinner, there were so many special moments that stood out. The florals carried that English countryside feel, with wedding favourites such as garden roses, peonies and jasmine creating a gorgeous mix of pinks, whites and greens by the talented Amber Persia. The three-tiered wedding cake was also decorated to match the marquee florals, with victoria sponge, lemon and elderflower and sticky toffee pudding as the chosen flavours all served with berries and cream.
A HEARTFELT HONEYMOON
The couple jetted off to the tropical climes of French Polynesia for their honeymoon. “We stayed on Vahine Island, Bora Bora and finished off our adventures at The Brando Hotel, which was the highlight of our trip,” they smiled. WH

BIRTHDAY SURPRISE
With Jonathan’s grand gesture of booking a special day at The Shard in London, Sarah’s mind was all over the place, waiting patiently for him to pop the question. Just as she was giving up on the idea, the unexpected happened. “Upon entering our room, I expected a grand display but realised I was overthinking a birthday surprise. We enjoyed the spa and had drinks at a bar where, ironically, a man at a nearby table proposed. Later, I walked back into the room to find it perfectly set up for Jonathan to propose. It was perfect!”
SUMMER DREAM
Wanting to enjoy the first moments of marital bliss in the sunshine, the couple chose a date in July to celebrate their love. The intimate day took place in their local church, where Jonathan’s nan and grandad got married. They shared the event with 100 of their closest loved ones, and of course, they had their little boy by their side, walking Sarah down the aisle.
CITYSCAPE
The couple searched many local venues, but none reflected their personal style, until they visited Hope Street Hotel and fell in love with their rooftop and modern feel. “The hotel was an obvious choice for us as we met nearby. We loved its minimalist and modern aesthetic, which perfectly aligned with the desired ambience for our wedding day. As passionate food lovers, ensuring exceptional catering was a top priority. We were delighted to discover that The London Carriageworks, a caterer we already admired, prepares the food there,” share the couple with a big smile on their faces.
FROM PINTEREST TO REALITY
Sarah took to social media to grab inspiration, finding a couple of ideas to incorporate. “For the venue, I envisioned a monochrome, minimalist theme with hydrangeas, inspired by Pinterest. Mimi Belle Events flawlessly executed this, sourcing a neon surname sign and creating stunning floral displays cascading from the bar and behind the top table and cake. In the evening, The Candid Company provided a white feathered photobooth backdrop, delivering perfect black and white photos. We incorporated popular TikTok trends guests loved. The “Love Stories Before Ours” table featuring photos of friends and family’s weddings was a success together with the “In Loving Memory” space with candles for absent family members.
KEEP IT SIMPLE
The bride did think it would be simple to find the perfect look, but she ended up trying on many styles she liked but which didn’t suit. As she was about to give up hope, she found the right fit: “After many unsuccessful bridal boutique visits, I found my dress at Natalie Ann Brides in Liverpool. The simplest gown, Jules by All Who Wander, was initially for the evening. The team enhanced it with an Essense of Australia overskirt for a grander daytime look, adding hooks for easy removal for evening dancing.”
CREAM OF THE CROP
“Nanny Tap, one of our first bookings, was an amazing supplier. We wanted our son, nieces and nephews at the wedding, but didn’t want them to be bored. Nanny
Tap entertained them all day and offered a nighttime service so younger children could stick to their normal sleep routine,” explains the couple. Another supplier they booked in early was their fantastic photographer, Monika Captures, who captured the essence of the day and left the sweethearts with a beautiful selection of images.
MEMORIES IN THE MAKING
The entire day was filled with magical moments, but when we asked Sarah what the most special part of the whole day was for her, the answer was heartwarming and, of course, self-explanatory:
“Seeing our little boy all dressed up in his suit and leading me down the aisle to marry his father in front of all our loved ones, and finally being able to share their last name, was something hard to put into words, extremely powerful.”
LET’S DANCE
From ceremony to reception, Sarah and Jonathan kept the music flowing with an incredible playlist and entertainers who played all their favourites. The dancefloor was never empty. WH
John’s meticulously planned beach proposal hinged on one crucial element, subtly guiding Natalie to the chosen romantic spot. John laughs: “It was really difficult convincing Natalie that we needed to check if the beach conditions were ‘fit for swimming’ when it was 20 degrees, no wind and sunshine.” John proposed on Natalie’s favourite childhood beach near her family home in Denmark. It was a complete surprise, disguised as a weekend away with friends and a morning pastry run, with four of their closest friends waiting for them ready to celebrate.
FAREWELL TO SUMMER
The couple had set their hearts on a September wedding. They wanted something to look forward to and had the best of luck with the weather on their special day. “We got married in Jersey, where John grew up, and where we spent a formative five months in lockdown together. To offer our guests a complete island experience, we held the ceremony at the Town Church and the reception in a marquee with views of the west coast. We chose Bayview field, which sits on top of the headland and has sweeping views of the bay. It was a risky move with wind being very common in the Channel Islands, but it was worth it in the end, especially with the help of Marquee Solutions, who provided us with a beautiful sail tent to complete the vision,” shares the couple.
CELEBRATING HERITAGE
Embracing a coastal wedding aesthetic, the bride and groom wove a sea-inspired theme throughout their celebration, complemented by personal touches that honoured their heritage. “For our Danish-Italian menu and order of the day, we got creative and wrote it on John’s surfboard. We adorned the tables with small wooden Danish flags and hearts, alongside traditional Italian bomboniere. We added personal touches like amaretto shots with name labels and a lemon and Victoria sponge cake, baked by John’s mum in our wedding colours. We also made tea light holders from saved jars. John designed our stationery featuring a bee and berry motif referencing our surnames. The week before the wedding, we assembled everything with family,” they explain.
DRESSED FOR THE OCCASION
Natalie had one bridal designer on her mind when she commenced dress shopping, Pronovias. She says: “It had always been a dream to wear a Pronovias dress. I went to school with the founder’s daughter, and the name always stuck in my mind. I had my fair share of panics in the lead up to the day - I think all brides do - but it was the perfect dress for me, and I still love it every time I see the photos. John knew he wanted to wear a navy linen suit with a cream linen waistcoat. He found the suit at John Lewis, and the waistcoat was an extra special touch from Sirplus.”
A MOMENT AT DUSK
There’s one beautiful moment the couple will never be able to forget. “As the sun started setting over the sea between the mains and dessert, everyone slowly started getting up from their seats and heading over to the coast to watch the sun set together. We all stood there looking out at the sea, a glass of fizz in hand. It was such a special moment,” remember Natalie and John.

When asked which was their best decision, they answered: “It’s hard to pick one! We’re glad to have organised a ‘welcome’ evening as it gave us another opportunity to spend time with our guests rather than just on the wedding day and then got everyone down to the beach on Sunday for a game of cricket and a debrief. We also put together a call sheet for the family photography, so we had more time to enjoy our reception.”

“Funnily enough, we found our honeymoon hotel in the Weddings & Honeymoons’ Honeymoon Bookazine. We picked the hotel, researched the town and chose Hotel Vis à Vis in Sestri Levante, down the coast from Portofino. It was the perfect-sized town, walkable in an afternoon, incredible food everywhere (no tourist traps!) and extremely picturesque. It was lovely to go straight after the wedding, so we could reflect and recharge after a busy time.” WH

Returning recently for a weekend escape, I found that the magic remains as captivating as ever.
The journey felt like a big exhale, busy roads melting into the rolling hills of Bruton as rural lanes lead you to Charlton House, a venue that holds a presence outside of time and everyday worries. The Regency period estate stands in an Arthurian landscape, offering 28 individually-designed rooms thoughtfully curated to fuse with the architecture of the venue. We were lucky enough to stay in one of the charming Courtyard Rooms, a deluxe haven tucked away in the trees with it’s own private entrance and decking area home to a jacuzzi for our personal use. A grand bed, roll-top bath, cosy chaise lounge and mezzanine-level ensuite all completed the space, with plenty of room for us and our pooch who was grateful for the petfriendly accommodation as we settled into contentment to begin our family escape.
The Charlton weekend itinerary unfolded in a rhythm of indulgence and ease. Days started with an al fresco breakfast in the sunshine with a range of classic breakfast dishes cooked to perfection from the Charlton House Restaurant menu, we sipped fresh coffee as our dog stretched his legs on the expansive lawns, orchard and charming orangery beyond the conservatory and patio garden.
Open all-day for fine dining, the botanical conservatory restaurant serves timeless dishes with an exotic flair. If your special occasion is calling out for a dining-based bookend, the delicate finger sandwiches and freshly bakes scones of the Afternoon Tea all taste better when shared with a glass of fizz with your wedding party on the lawns or even a three-course meal from the Sunday Roast menu complete with a complimentary glass of house wine could be ideal for your anniversary. Checking in was a smooth and warm experience and I was immediately charmed by the bright, modern and effortlessly stylish room awaiting us. But it was the personal details that really stood out, including a surprise doggy box waiting for our four-legged
companion stocked with thoughtful treats, a gesture that made us feel truly cared for. The Relais Cooden Beach have a range of spaces to suit every sort of guest, from cosy Double Rooms ideal for couples to the Sea View King Rooms made for the honeymooners seeking that something extra, allow your room to become a safe space of tranquil reflection on your journey together so far.
Suitably recharged, we made our way for dinner and drinks in the hotel’s culinary hotspots, a real jewel in their crown. Starting with tasty cocktails by the fire pit in The Rally Bar, we then sampled the offerings at The Rally Restaurant, named in honour of Cooden Beach’s motorsport heritage. With an ever-changing menu that reflects the flavours and tastes of the season, the restaurant always keeps a lens on fish and seafood throughout their dishes. This was very evident in my main course, the Pan Roasted Cornish Cod Loin with wilted autumn greens and a velvety seafood chowder, a total standout that was cooked to perfection bursting with depth and flavour! We paired it with a beautifully chilled bottle of Albariño, each sip so perfectly refreshing. For the finale, we opted for the rich chocolate pudding and I must admit it was the best I ever tasted, the perfect ending to our exquisite evening. If you are looking for a more casual occasion to complement your beach day, you can also visit The Seaview Terrace for chic seaside light bites and afternoon cocktails with waves rolling in just beyond your seat.
Another highlight of my trip was my luxurious time spent at The Relais Retreat Spa as I left feeling completely renewed. After quenching our post-flight thirst with welcome drinks as the Aegean sun casted a golden light on the resort’s 100-meter pool, we settled into our new home: the Double Guestroom. A private balcony framed sweeping views, capturing the resort layout from the community of restaurants and rooms all the way to the loungers dotted across the blue-flag sand of Faliraki Beach. Inside, a soothing palette echoed the sea and stone of the island, with a plush double bed, complimentary mini fridge and the kind of understated details that invite you to slow down and exhale. For this trip we settled into the plan of complete R&R, unwinding from the privacy of our poolside cabana where time stretched out in the best possible way. An intimate space for two, the cabana provided a welcome refuge from the beating sun as we switched between poolside dips, saunters along the sand, midday snoozes and Aperol Spritz orders - crafting that perfect day in the sun you replay in your mind for years. With the beach just steps away, temptation came in the form of the resort’s water sports centre. Canoes, kayaks and motorised equipment all called to our sense of adventure. We rented a three-hour trip on their motorboat, opting for the sans skipper option as after a friendly lesson from the expert team, we were soon charting our own course across the glistening Aegean. Dropping anchor in secluded coves, snorkelling in the crystal waters and slipping into mystical caves was the itinerary for our afternoon, an experience we now harken as one of the best chapters in our love story.
