Audi Q6 e-tron o road Concept
Audi is one of the most prominent forces in the luxury automotive landscape when it comes to electrification, with a rapidly expanding lineup of electric models. Audi’s electric luxury SUV based on the new PPE platform is the Q6 e-tron, and the German marque recently unveiled a new excursion-ready concept version of it, which is wider than the standard car, along with a 6.3inch suspension lift, and conventional portal axles for improved torque on low-traction surfaces.
With its off-roading-focused tweaks, the new Q6 e-tron offroad Concept is capable of climbing up to 45-degree grades, according to Audi. Showing the versatility and potential of Audi’s PPE platform to create enjoyable luxury vehicles and highly capable o -roaders alike, the new Q6 e-tron o road Concept is an intriguing take on an electric luxury SUV, and one that hopefully makes it to production for o -road enthusiasts to enjoy.

Going off-road is one of the most exciting ways to drive. Whether it’s for the challenging topography, the stunning views of natural beauty, or the thrill of all-terrain driving, oroading is many enthusiasts’ idea of fun behind the wheel. When it comes to manufacturing o -road-capable vehicles, decades of heritage have made way for legendary pedigrees to be formed, with vehicles that have an honored reputation for being able to go places where most other vehicles won’t.
In recent years, a staggering number of luxury off-roaders have emerged, adding sumptuous comfort and elegant style to rugged versatility. Both manufacturers with decades of history in the o -roading world and new players in the arena have unveiled new luxury o -roaders recently, making 2025 an exciting time for any automotive enthusiast to travel o the beaten path.

For decades, the LX has served as the flagship luxury SUV for Lexus, and the latest generation of the cherished model featured extensive updates, including executive rear seating and a new V6 powertrain. However, late 2024 saw the introduction of a more powerful flagship variant of the LX, the new Lexus LX 700h.
The new model boasts a hybrid twin-turbocharged 3.4-liter V6, which boasts 457 horsepower and 583 lb/ft of torque, a significant upgrade from the LX 600. In addition to the new model variant, Lexus also introduced an Overtrail trim for the new LX 700h. This not only adds rugged style and an o -roading-oriented kit to the luxury SUV but also takes advantage of its hybrid powertrain to make o -roading even easier.

3 Defender OCTA
Land Rover’s legendary Defender name has evolved into becoming its own brand, and with it came its recently unveiled flagship offering, the OCTA. This version is the most luxurious and powerful iteration of the Defender, boasting a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine boasting 626 horsepower. Its moniker is inspired by the signature shape of a diamond, a notoriously tough and luxurious material that inspires the ethos of the new flagship SUV.
Combining power with enhanced off-road capabilities, the new Defender OCTA boasts a suspension lift, a wider stance than the standard car, and unique suspension technology. Defender is preparing to enter the Dakar Rally in 2026 and is standing behind the OCTA’s capabilities as the basis for its entries in the legendary race.
4. Ruf Rodeo
The recent introduction of vehicles like the Porsche 911 Dakar and the Lamborghini Huracán Sterrato has ushered in a new era of off-road supercars, which echo the go-anywhere thrill of rally racers, along with the glamor and head-turning panache of highperformance machines.
With an added dose of retro-inspired flair, German performance engineering icon Ruf threw its hat in the ring, with the reveal of its Rodeo model late last year at Monterey Car Week. It’s powered by a 610-horsepower twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter flat-six engine with all-wheel drive and uses Ruf’s own carbon fiber monocoque to combine sti ness and lightness to create a truly thrilling all-terrain machine. A classic silhouette and a six-speed manual transmission add to the enthusiast-focused fun of the new Rodeo.

CALLUM SKYE
CALLUM was founded in 2019 by the eponymous legendary British automotive designer Ian Callum. Responsible for icons like the Aston Martin Vanquish, the new CALLUM brand is using cutting-edge engineering to push the boundaries of the automotive industry, and the new SKYE is its first model fully developed in-house.
The SKYE is described by CALLUM as a “multiterrain electric vehicle,” with a unique 2+2 body style, striking design that combines ruggedness and futurism, and elegant luxury. Its targeted weight of just over 2,535 pounds with perfect 50:50 distribution, combined with electric power, are set to make it a thrill to drive both on and o -road, with a 0-60 time projected at under four seconds, and its 42-kWh battery aiming for a 170-mile range. With its unique approaches, the new CALLUM SKYE aims to represent the future of automotive wanderlust.

From luxurious all-terrain RVs to fully kitted overlanding builds, the number of big-name automakers and aftermarket companies building products specifically for this growing community of enthusiasts has only grown year over year since the global health pandemic.
However, mapping out your first o -roading adventure can be as challenging as selecting the vehicle to take you there. To ease you into this expansive world of trails and sites, we’ve compiled a list of the top five o -roading destinations in the US, presented in no specific order.

MOAB
SEDONA
MOAB, UTAH
Nestled 250 miles south of Salt Lake City sits Moab, a small city surrounded by expansive national parks on all sides. To the northeast, you’ll find the most famous: Arches National Park. As its name suggests, it is best known for its over 2,000 natural sandstone arches. If you’ve seen photos of the area, it’s likely of Delicate Arch, a 52-foot high natural structure depicted in Utah license plates and used for the Olympic torch relay during the 2002 Winter Olympics.
This area is ideal for beginners due to its sheer variety of oroading trails, hiking trails, and local accommodations. Moab sits almost perfectly between Denver, Colorado, and Las Vegas, Nevada, making it easily accessible. Move southwest, and you’ll find Canyonlands National Park. It spans 337,598 acres, making it the far larger of the pair, but it o ers an even greater variety of scenery, camping sites, and o -roading activities.
As with many locations we’ll cover, bringing your offroading vehicle isn’t necessary, given the expansive amount of other rental companies in the area. Beginner-friendly trails include Shafer Trail, Gemini Bridges Trail, Geyser Pass, and Klondike Bu s. These take approximately four hours to complete, spacing at most 25 miles, including scenic views, while incorporating only light o -roading.
If you’re more experienced or just want to spectate some of the more di cult trails Moab o ers, Hell’s Revenge, Fiery Furnace and Surprise Arch, and Syncline Loop present a more significant challenge behind the wheel.
SEDONA, ARIZONA
Continuing the red rock theme is Sedona, Arizona. There, you’ll find the Coconino National Forest, which spans Flagsta , AZ, incorporating massive rock formations, pine forests, and true alpine tundra. Covering over 1.8 million acres, this national park rises in altitude from a low of 2,600 ft to well past 12,000 ft.
Beginners will want to start on popular trails such as the Broken Arrow Trail, Outlaw Trail, and Van Deren Cabin Trail. These are popular, easy to traverse, and o er access to hikers, bikers, and those using o -roading vehicles. If a longer, slightly more challenging route is what you’re after, the Outlaw Trail spans 23.2 miles and will take a few hours to complete. However, unlike Moab, most of the trails in the Coconino National Forest are listed as easy or moderate in di culty, making the number of options for beginners slightly higher. Sedona is easily accessible, sitting about 117 miles north of Arizona’s capital of Phoenix and a mere 32.8 from Flagsta . Given that most of the Coconino National Forest exists within a desert climate, visiting during the summer months could prove challenging to both attendees and the vehicles selected for the trip.
MOJAVE, CALIFORNIA
Easily accessible from Los Angeles and Las Vegas, the Mojave Desert has been home to countless famous movie shoots. These include “The Professionals”, “Top Gun: Maverick,” and “Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope.” Given its proximity to various major cities, including Palm Springs, the Mojave Desert is one of the o -roading areas in this list most closely surrounded by luxurious resorts and hotels. This makes it ideal to incorporate a visit to this national park as part of a larger vacation.
Given its location, temperatures during the summer can often exceed 100 degrees Fahrenheit while staying mainly in the 60s from November through March. Given that the Mojave National Preserve spans more than 1.5 million acres, there’s a great variety of scenery to explore. Famous trails such as the 137-mi Mojave Road Trail traverse towering mountain ranges despite sporting a moderate di culty level.
In contrast, areas such as the Iron Canyon Scenic Trail, Tule Divide, and Jawbone OHV Area incorporate a greater variety of dirt roads, sandy areas, and smaller mountain passes. The Mojave Desert is an excellent choice for those looking for a full day of o -road exploration but wanting to be close to some of the best resorts and hotels Southern California and Las Vegas o er.

LAKE TAHOE, CALIFORNIA
Perched on the borders of Nevada and California, Lake Tahoe trades the desert for dense forests and snowy peaks. It’s home to the Tahoe National Forest, which spans 871,000 acres and features some of the most beautiful mountain ranges in the country. This area’s strength is the diversity of scenery. The lake o ers easy access to water activities, while the surrounding valleys o er endless hiking, camping, and biking opportunities. This area is known as one of the go-to destinations for skiing and snowboarding during the winter.
Yet despite its easy access to plenty of outdoor activities, the Lake Tahoe area is also home to various o -roading trails. On the easier side, you’ll find options like the Sardine Lakes and Mount Watson Peak trails. Stepping up to a moderate di culty level opens up longer options, such as the 38.2-mile Bowman Lake Road and Meadow Lake Road Trail. However, the area’s most famous is the 18.2-mile Rubicon Trail, one of the most di cult in the US.
Given its standing as a popular tourist destination, Lake Tahoe o ers five-star accommodations near o -roading trails and outdoor activity areas. Out of all the options covered on this list, it provides the most options for those looking to test their all-terrain abilities without straying too far from luxury lodging.
BOULDER, COLORADO
No list of o -roading locations would be complete without mentioning the beautiful state of Colorado and the epic Rocky Mountains. Boulder is the largest city mentioned yet, with a population surpassing 100,000. Yet despite being a more urbanized area, it sits a stone’s throw from an expansive list of o -roading trails.
As its name suggests, this area is mountainous, incorporating dense forests, large lakes, and substantial elevation gains. For those looking to sample more trails in a shorter period, well-known ones such as the Loch Lomond Trail, Middle St. Vrain, and Crystal City Road Trail all come in at under 10 miles each.
This area is also known for having a high concentration of more challenging trails, such as the Chihuahua Lake Trail, Imogene Pass, and Mount Antero Trail, which, despite their relatively short length, will be di cult for those newer to the sport.
Alongside these options, the Boulder area o ers expansive hiking, biking, and camping locations. It is easily accessible via Denver, which sits 30 miles southeast. However, given that the Rocky Mountains stretch over 3,000 miles, essentially slicing through Canada and the US, it presents an ideal location for making a stop as part of a more substantial vacation or tackling the range as part of a larger road trip.

There are few luxury buyers more particular than G-Wagen owners. The Rolls-Royce and Pagani crowd certainly compare, but nothing else will do for those who’ve fallen under the G’s spell. There’s a good reason for the fanaticism. Even as the luxury o -roader market swells, the Geländewagen remains the most characterful. From its boxy shape to its upright driving position, even down to its doors’ satisfying sound as they lock into place, the G’s cult following isn’t accidental.
Yet this heightened level of fanaticism creates a unique problem for Mercedes-Benz. Given the current regulations sweeping across Europe, the German carmaker has to build an electric variant of what is arguably the model most closely associated with its brand. However, as vehicles such as the EQS demonstrate, the three-pointed star isn’t afraid of taking risks with radical new designs, but as that car has also proven, big changes don’t always result in big sales.
The 2025 Mercedes-Benz G580 with EQ Technology, its name a result of the marque partially ditching the “EQ” moniker in favor of the numeric designations it’s used for years, is the first-ever electric G-Wagen. However, it’s unlike any Mercedes EV before it in that it doesn’t dive headfirst into the future by completely ditching the past. It rides on a modified version of the ladderframe platform that underpins the refreshed W465-generation

truck, itself largely a carry-over from the W464-gen that debuted in late 2021.
Despite mainly being used as a luxury SUV, the G580’s retention of this ladder frame design means that going electric doesn’t come at the cost of o -roading prowess. Its battery, a pack with a 116 kilowatt-hour usable capacity, sits sandwiched within the frame to save space. Mercedes-Benz encased it in a torsion-resistant cage to protect it, allowing you to confidently tackle an o -roading trail worry-free. Additional underbody protection exists to ensure that this $162,650 ($192,690 as tested) o roader always comes home intact.
Four electric motors, one for each wheel, deliver a substantial output of 579 horsepower and 859 pound-feet of torque. Each is paired with its own transmission, and despite lacking traditional locking di erentials, it achieves the same e ect via its torque vectoring system. This setup also enables its G-Turn mode, which allows you to complete a full rotation on the spot, a helpful trick if you find yourself on a trail unable to proceed forward.
Yet while its 4.6-second 0-60 mph time is rapid for a vehicle that weighs 6,746 pounds, 1,102 lb more than a Rolls-Royce Phantom for those keeping score, the range-topping G63 is still king thanks to its even quicker 4.2-second time.

thanks to the instant response of its powertrain. Despite its weight, its excellently tuned dampers mean you don’t feel its extra heft in most scenarios. And like the broader W465-generation range, its ride is more compliant than previous models, achieving near Range Rover ride quality. Of course, the G’s quirks remain, such as a tall-riding body that leans hilariously and an upright driving position that makes you feel like you’re sitting more on the G than in it.
Yet herein lies its greatest strength. The G580 might be a technological powerhouse, but it’s a G-Wagen first. If you don’t catch its slightly smoothed-out grille, cladded A-pillars, or slightly flared wheel arches, you’d be hard-pressed to tell that you’re not looking at its gas-powered twin. Its steering remains heavy, its doors require a proper closing slam, and its interior space is unchanged.
There are some drawbacks, of course. Its EPA-estimated 239-mile range falls well short of the tri-motor R1S’s 371-mile figure, despite the Rivian producing significantly more power at 850 hp while o ering comparable o -roading chops. The G’s 400-volt architecture means it’ll charge at a maximum of 200 kilowatts, taking 32 minutes to jump from 10 to 80%, and some of its regenerative braking settings could use some fine-tuning as coming to a smooth stop can be challenging.
For those of whom only a G-Wagen will do, the G580 nails the fundamentals of what makes a great electric vehicle. Its adoption of batteries doesn’t diminish its character. Regardless of the setting, it feels like a Geländewagen first and an EV second. One of the criticisms most often directed towards EVs is that their character is diminished by ditching their internal combustion powerplant. Yet, as the first electric Geländewagen demonstrates, the personality that built its cult-following lives on.

dR: What was the inspiration, and describe the journey, for SoFlo Customs?
SoFlo: I’ve been building custom Jeep projects since I was a kid. When I finally had my own shop, I was selling cars to pay the bills while building custom trucks on the side. People started noticing the builds in the background more than the cars I was trying to sell. Eventually, building projects became my fulltime gig. We went from simple builds to wild six-wheelers with Hellcat engines, creating our own di erentials and body parts. Now, everything’s under one roof—we can build something totally unique in a week. It’s been a wild ride from side hustle to full-blown custom shop.
dR: How does SoFlo di erentiate itself from others in the same sector?
SoFlo: Our biggest di erentiator is that we design and build nearly everything in-house including bumpers, fenders, hoods, tops, you name it. These aren’t o -the-shelf parts from catalogs. Each design is a collaborative e ort. We prototype, test, and refine everything based on feedback from our team and customers. It’s about looking good but more importantly, it’s about real-world functionality. Our people genuinely care, and that passion comes through in the final product.
dR: What models are your top sellers, and why do they resonate with your clients?
SoFlo: Our widebody Bronco builds are killing it right now, followed by the Spartan and the Hellfire. The Hellfire has evolved a ton and now it’s powered by a 6.4L V8, has an eightseat configuration, and all six wheels are powered. It’s got the utility of a pickup but the capability and space of an SUV. These resonate with our clients because they’re functional, powerful, and just badass.
dR: Can you share the story behind one of the most unique or rare vehicles you’ve sold?
SoFlo: One of my favorites is a Wagoneer we gutted, reframed over a Wrangler chassis, and stu ed a 6.4L into. It looks like a classic 1970s Wagoneer on the outside but has a modern, fuelinjected heart pumping 550 horsepower. Another standout was a boat truck. Yeah, it literally drives into the water. I’m probably the permanent owner of that one, but it’s fun as hell.
dR: How do you create a memorable buying experience?
SoFlo: Continuity and excitement. The customer is part of the design process from day one. They get live updates, access to a camera feed of their build, and constant communication. If they want to tweak something mid-build, they can. It’s a fully immersive and transparent process that makes them feel connected to their vehicle from start to finish.
dR: What trends are you noticing in the o -road sector, and how are they influencing your business?
SoFlo: Trends change constantly. Right now, it’s all about horsepower—people want big power under the hood more than extreme off-road capability. Styling evolves fast too; diamond stitching is out, octagon is in. We keep pushing the limits with each new platform like Hellcat swaps, widebody kits, crazy Raptors, you name it. We’re also seeing a lot of electric experimentation, but to be honest, people still crave that visceral, mechanical driving experience.
dR: How has the profile of o -road vehicle buyers evolved in recent years?
SoFlo: Buyers want something that fits their lifestyle. It’s not about 8-foot beds anymore; it’s about space for friends and family. That’s why we built the eight-seat Hellfire. These customers want utility, power, and uniqueness. Also, horsepower. The more horsepower the better for everyone.
dR: What should people know about your company?
SoFlo: We can build anything. Every team member here is obsessed with what they do. Everyone works hard, and that passion translates into quality. We’re big enough to do incredible things, but small enough to still make things right if they go wrong. Most of our customers stay in our orbit well after the sale and we’re proud of the community we’ve built.
dR: What are your goals for SoFlo in the next five to ten years?
SoFlo: We just became an o cial outfitter for Chrysler, so now dealerships can send us vehicles directly from the manufacturer. That opens the door for a dealer network across the country. On the wild side, we’re still pushing boundaries with Raptors, Hellcats, and more. We want to make high-horsepower swaps more accessible and keep designing fun, functional o -road beasts at a reasonable price.
dR: What does duPont REGISTRY mean to you?
SoFlo: It’s the magazine I grew up thumbing through at the grocery store. It was where you saw the coolest, most exotic cars—stu you couldn’t find anywhere else. It holds a nostalgic, highline value. When I get an email from duPont REGISTRY, I open it. It’s a brand that still means something in car culture today, and it’s an honor to be part of it.

THE DEVIN Z
A million-dollar tribute to innovation, now available for sale.

The story begins at Watkins Glen in 1952, where a young enthusiast first discovered his love for race cars. The track was a second home, filled with the sights and sounds of SCCA competition.Among the names that echoed in the paddock was Bill Devin, a racer and innovator who wanted Ferrari-like performance but couldn’t a ord the price tag. Instead of giving up, Devin built his own solution: lightweight fiberglass bodies that could be fitted to a variety of chassis, allowing weekend racers to rebuild and return to competition faster than ever. That innovation sparked a business, and by 1959, Devin’s SS model graced the cover of Hot Rod Magazine, a Corvettebeater born from sheer ingenuity.
Fast forward decades, and that same young racing fan, now a seasoned builder himself, found a 1957 Devin S to restore. During the restoration, fate intervened — a Devin SS body appeared, and it was too good to pass up. What followed was a years-long odyssey to create the ultimate modern tribute car, the Devin Z — “Z” for the final, ultimate Devin.
The process began with designer Brian Stupski, who helped translate a vision into renderings. From there, SR3 engineered a custom tube chassis with Corvette control arms, four-wheel independent suspension, and disc brakes. Viking’s Berserker coilovers were added for real-time suspension tuning, ensuring the car could handle like a modern track weapon.
Staying true to Devin’s Chevrolet roots, power comes from a Thomsonbuilt LS7, equipped with a Harrop side-draft intake delivering 697 horsepower to a 6-speed transmission and Getrag transaxle. Electronic management is handled by Holley’s Dominator ECU, with a digital dash mounted on the passenger side — a nod to the car’s road rally inspiration, where navigators need full visibility of the car’s performance data.
The body itself is a one-o carbon fiber shell manufactured by Motor City Solutions who also created its mold. It weighs just 161 pounds and fits

This remarkable piece of automotive history, part race car, part tribute, and fully unique, is now available for sale
over hand-fabricated inner panels, creating wheel wells, heat extractors, and engine bay liners, all done by Dave Daunheimer at Competition Fabrications. Every piece, from the exhaust headers to the custom stainless fuel tank, was carefully hand-built.
One of the most striking features is the custom hood, a sculptural piece designed to both showcase the side-draft intake and provide critical heat extraction. Even the side-view mirrors were replaced by cameras, feeding to a center display that o ers rear, side, and optional front views — a techforward touch that blends form and function.
The car wears B-Forge custom wheels, developed with Billet Specialties to mimic classic knocko s, and it’s painted in a bespoke Devin Z Blue, mixed using discontinued PPG tints with just one spare gallon available. The interior, crafted by Riggs Brothers, balances race-ready function with show-stopping detail.
After over 6000 hours of labor, plus hundreds of personal hours from the builder himself, the Devin Z made its debut at the 2022 Detroit Autorama, earning a spot among the prestigious Great 8 finalists. But make no mistake, this is not only a showpiece but also a fully roadworthy sports car engineered for performance driving and built to honor Bill Devin’s legacy on the track where he belonged.
Now, this remarkable piece of automotive history, part race car, part tribute, and fully unique, is available for sale. This million-dollar build comes complete with all receipts and the original mold used in its creation. Furthermore, the fabricator and builder, Competition Fabrications, will provide a limited first-year owner warranty under proper use. For the right buyer, the Devin Z o ers the chance to own not just a car, but a story. A story that began at Watkins Glen in 1952 and continues to this day, waiting for its next chapter.

RUF’S RECORD
$6M SALE
Gooding Christie’s is well known for consigning special Porsche models, particularly at its Amelia Island auction every year. The most recent edition was no di erent – although, in a way, it was. This time, the headline Porsche was no Porsche at all, but rather a Ruf.

In January, Gooding let the world know that an original Ruf CTR (often called by its nickname, ‘Yellowbird’) was going to headline March’s sale. The CTR is undoubtedly the best-known Ruf model, thanks largely to its 211-mph performance in a Road & Track shootout from 1987, as well as a famous drifting video around the Nürburgring Nordschleife from 1989.
What made the announcement even more exciting was the auction house’s estimate – ‘In Excess of $6,000,000’ USD. It was di cult to gauge the rationality of this estimate because it had been seven years since the last appearance of an original, Ruf-VIN CTR at public auction (more on what I mean here later). Gooding walked the walk on 7 March, when it successfully put CTR chassis #026 into new ownership for $6,055,000.
To call this result groundbreaking is no overstatement; I believe this is one of the most important stories coming out of the combined Miami/Amelia Island auctions. Why? Consider that Rufs, inevitably, are compared to the Porsche 911 family they are (typically) based on. According to auction results across Classic.com and Glenmarch going back over a decade, only a single 911 has achieved a higher result publicly – a 911 GT1. Porsche’s 911 GT1, an ultra-low-production, 1990s homologation special, is arguably the only 911 model that can consistently beat this recent CTR sale.
Then there’s the best like-for-like comparison. The 1987 CTR was based on the naturallyaspirated Carrera of the day, but is most fairly compared to the 911 Turbo, the ‘930’ 3.3-liter of the time. The 930 3.3 market today averages about $150k for the standard Coupe or Cabriolet or $200-450k for the rarer variants that mix and match slant-nose bodywork, Targa bodystyle, and/or ‘S’ engine specification.
No matter the flavor of 930, none of Porsche’s own comparables are worth anywhere near a Ruf CTR. To be fair, Porsche built over 20,000 930s, whereas Ruf built only 29 ground-up CTRs, and scarcity plays heavily with value. Nevertheless, how often does a third party modify an existing, prestigious sports car to create an end product that is eventually worth 40x more than the original? But no third party ‘tuner’ has quite an arrangement like Ruf has…

WITH THIS $6M RESULT, RUF HAS MOVED TO THE FOREFRONT OF THE 1980S/’90S SPORTS CAR MARKET, AND COLLECTORS WHO HAVEN’T STARTED ALREADY SHOULD PAY ATTENTION.
Ruf evolved from servicing Porsches, to modifying them, to securing a unique deal in the early 1980s to build their own Porsche interpretations from a blank slate. The Pfaffenhausen, Germany-based company became a recognized auto manufacturer in 1981, and around the same time, negotiated a deal with Porsche to be provided with bare chassis and body shells from which Ruf could engineer, build, and sell their own variants. This unorthodox deal lasted into the 2010s, and in that timeframe, Ruf released dozens of wild creations based on the progressing generations of 911, in addition to some non-911 Porsche models.
Porsche-based Rufs like the CTR (the company has more recently delved into its own chassis designs, albeit still with Porsche aesthetics) come in two major varieties: examples built by Ruf from bare chassis, wearing ‘W09’ VINs indicating Ruf as the original manufacturer, and Porsches which have been o cially converted by Ruf (or a licensed
importer), carrying their original ‘WP’ Porsche VIN.
Gooding’s o ering was one of the 29 ‘true’ W09 CTRs. This was the lowest mileage example to go to public auction, and it was also in the ‘correct’ Blossom Yellow color like the original ‘Yellowbird’ from the Road & Track test. Combine the legend of the model with the toptier nature of this example and you get a headline result.
Porsche 911s saw a rapid ascent in value from 2020-2022 that many collector cars enjoyed, and prices have remained resilient since, while many other markets softened after the 2022 mania. Porsche collectors have particularly supported uniqueness – rare 911 models, rare sub-models (e.g. Clubsport, S, and Leichtbau), rare colors, and extinct or increasingly-rare features like air-cooled engines and manual transmissions. Ruf ‘911s’ often satisfy all those desires. The manufacturer has released dozens of models since 1981, with seemingly all of them in double-
digit or even single-digit production figures. Endless configuration options and nearbespoke projects have made each example that much more special; for example, even with only 59 CTRs built, Ruf managed to squeeze in several di erent varieties – narrow or wide body, RWD or AWD, standard or lightweight, and G-body or 964-based. It’s hard to find rarer 911s than their cousins produced in Pfa enhausen.
Accordingly, numerous Ruf sales have made waves recently. Two CTR2s sold publicly for over $2m in the last seven months, and about a dozen other examples across the product line achieved seven-figure sales in the last three years. However, a $6m sale puts Ruf in a new stratosphere. The company has, somewhat ironically considering its models’ derivative nature, clearly carved out its own identity. With this latest result, Ruf has moved to the forefront of the 1980s/’90s sports car market, and collectors who haven’t started already should pay attention.
