Planners seek more info for proposed Mosque By Paul Byrne THE developers of a proposed mosque at the Longwalk in Dundalk have been asked by the Planning Authority to provide further detail of the proposed use and operations of the community building/place of worship to assess any potential impact of the proposal on neighbouring residential development and traffic and pedestrian safety. Plans were lodged in March this year by Yaqeen Islamic Community Centre asking for ‘Permission for the change of use from retail warehouse to community facility/ place of worship’. The building was formerly known as Dundalk Paint Store but is currently lying vacant. Local residents under the banner of North End Residents As-
sociation which represents people living in the Long Walk, Demesne Road, McSwiney Street, Oliver Plunkett Park, O’Hanlon Park, Fr Murray Park and the Laurels have already sent in submissions arguing that the proposed plan would have a ‘major impact on parking and traffic disruption in our area especially if there is multiple services throughout the day’ A decision was due to be made on the 25th of May but the Planning Section of Louth County Council have asked for further information before a decision will be reached. In a letter to Yaqeen Islamic Community Centre the planners asked for details of the activities for the proposed use and a timetable of how often Laura Corrigan (Left) said goodbye to her colleagues last Thursday having any events would take place. worked with Penneys for 51 years.
