APPEAL LODGED Appeals lodged over 1,025-home plan beside Cú Chulainn’s Castle By Lauren Ross
PLANS for 1,025 homes beside Dún Dealgan, better known locally as Cú Chulainn’s Castle, are now before An Coimisiún Pleanála after Louth County Council’s decision to grant permission was appealed. On 22nd July, the council decided to grant permission for 1,025 homes, 33 fewer than the 1,058 originally proposed and subject to 51 conditions. An Coimisiún Pleanála told the Dundalk Leader on 20th August that three valid appeals had been confirmed, while others received before the deadline were still being processed. By Monday, 24th August, its public case page
had been updated to show seven party entries, including an entry County Louth Archaeological and Historical Society. Nicola Bishop, who told the Dundalk Leader that she had lodged a separate appeal, was not listed under her own name. The page did not state whether all seven entries represented valid appeals. According to the Commission, once a planning appeal is made to the Commission the local planning authority decision is considered invalid. The Commission makes a fresh decision on the planning application that can confirm, alter, or reverse the local planning authority decision.
