Conviction quashed in Cameron murder case By Paul Byrne ALMOST eight years to the day of the murder of Cameron Reilly in Dunleer, the man who was convicted of murdering him had his life sentence quashed after the Court of Appeal found that the trial judge’s charge to the jury in the trial of Aaron Connolly lacked balance - and in parts may have been seen as “advocacy” for the prosecution case. Aaron Connolly, of Willistown, Drumcar had pleaded not guilty to the murder of 18-year-old Cameron Reilly at Shamrock Hill,
Dunleer, County Louth on 26 May 2018. However, following a trial he was convicted in December 2022 and sentenced to life in prison. He has spent the last three years in prison Cameron, an 18 year old first year hospitality studies student in DkIT, was found dead in a field by a man walking his dog on the morning of Saturday 2th of May 2018. The previous evening he had been socialising with a group of around 15 friends who had gathered in a field just outside Dunleer. Louth Rose Chloe Moran and her best friend since childhood Jade Gorham were back in the Principal’s office to meet Miss Galligan and the girls in the school last Thursday. Continued on Page 2
