Champions of Ireland! We know what we are! By Paul Byrne ON the weekend that Dundalk lost Gerry Gover, Muirhevnamór FC U12’s did his memory proud as they lifted the SFAI National Trophy thanks to a gutsy 1-0 victory over Cork’s Ringmahon Rovers. Gerry was known as ‘Mr Football’ in Dundalk and was a hugely respected figure in local football who gave many years of service to the game in Dundalk, particularly through his involvement with the Dundalk Schoolboys League. He no doubt would have been proud to see the Muirhevnamór U12’s lift the trophy in Jackson Park, Dublin on Saturday afternoon. ‘Coco’ Mulvenna and Stephen McGuill leading the team on their quest last October as they cruised through the rounds in the North Leinster section of the draw with the minimum of fuss. This led them into the last 32 and into the National section and they passed that first test on the big stage with flying colours as they beat Galway side Knocknacarra 3-1 away from home. The last 16 saw them travel to Galway once again, this time beating St Bernards Utd 2-1 in a tight game.
