Strums of comfort Dundalk Ukulele Strummers to host fundraiser for three year old diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy By Paul Byrne DUNDALK Ukulele Strummers will perform a special concert in aid of Darragh Brangan at 12pm tomorrow (Thursday) outside Panama cafe at the Square in Dundalk. Three-year old Darragh was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy at the age of eighteen months early last year. The news came as a shock to parents Zoe and Gordon Brangan whose world turned upside down when they were given the news in Crumlin hospital. Zoe is originally from Dromiskin and is now living with husband Gordon and their three children Ellie (4), Katie (18 months) and Darragh (3) in Tara, Meath.
Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) is a degenerative muscle wasting condition, and while Zoe and Gordon live in hope, presently there is no cure. Darragh has severe muscle weakness which will progress, and as his parents watch their son achieve all his milestones a little later than most, they will likely have to watch as he loses them too. According to Zoe, who works as a nurse in a GP practice, they had to get over the shock of Darragh’s diagnosis quickly and spring into action to try and raise money to help make their home suitable for Darragh and give him a space where he wasn’t lim- St Patricks GFC ladies successfully defended their crown in Ardee, as they won the Ladies ited by his surroundings.
