Local heroes rescue man from river By Paul Byrne
THE quick thinking and awareness of an Ardee publican combined with the bravery of a local healthcare worker helped save a man from drowning in the River Dee on Friday evening. Tom Muldoon, owner of Brian Muldoon’s Pub in Ardee and Dean Enright, a healthcare worker from Blackrock who was working on the door in Muldoons on Friday night have been hailed for their quick response and bravery as they saved a man from drowning in the River Dee. According to Tom, owner of Brian Muldoon & Sons bar in Ardee both he and Dean were talking outside at the

door of the pub just after 8pm on Friday evening when they saw three men heading down towards the river. Shortly afterwards just two of them came back which set off alarm bells in Tom’s head. “I felt something was wrong when I saw just two men coming back from the direction of the river when three of them had gone down that way a short time earlier. They hadn’t been in the pub but we saw them passing and when just two of them came back walking up the street I asked Dean, my doorman, to come down with me to the river to make sure nobody was in trouble,” explains Tom. The Corrs were honoured by Louth County Council with multiple events including a Civic Reception to celebrate their amazing career. Pic- Ciarán Culligan. Continued on Page 2
