“DARE TO DREAM” 1957 hero Frank Lynch tells Louth to believe By Paul Byrne SIXTY-nine years ago teenager Frank Lynch was celebrating on the Croke Park pitch having helped his Louth side win a first All-Ireland Senior Football Championship since 1912. On Sunday, Frank, now 87, was celebrating in the stands as he cheered on a heroic Louth performance against Monaghan that will be forever etched in the minds of those fortunate enough to have seen it. “I enjoyed the game immensely and they were brilliant to a man,” stated Frank. “It’s a different game now to what it was when I played due to the rule changes but it is very exciting and I really enjoyed the game. They have a very good manager and they have got a decent draw now for the semi-finals and they are well capable of winning that game. If they can win that and then get to a final any-

thing is possible. I would say to the players to believe in themselves and keep doing what they are doing. I will certainly be going to the semi-final and I hope that I will be cheering them on in the final as well,” he added. “Nobody would love to see another Louth team pick up Sam more than me. There are only four men still alive from my team and I think it is a real shame that we are the last team to have won it. People say to me are you not proud that you are part of the last team to have won Sam but I don’t think of it in those terms at all. I want to see Louth football doing well. I love Louth football and 69 years is just too long of a gap. These players can end that long wait and I encourage them to dare to dream. There are only four teams left now and anything is possible,” stated Frank. Louth supporters Nicola, Aaron and Martina Reilly (Ardee), Maud, Alfie and Freddie Fanning and Pearl and Patrick Byrne (Phillipstown) celebrate in Croke Park. Continued on Page 2
