WHERE TO USE:
Newly cured or uncoated (never coated or ground) porous masonry surfaces, including:
HOW TO USE:
Two coats of sealer, applied wet on wet, is recommend for best product performance.
One heavy coat can be suitable, dependent on the substrate profile and porosity.
Dilution of the product is recommended. Dilution ratios will vary depending on the porosity of the substrate.
APPLICATION
1. Mix or shake product prior to ensure it is homogenous. The product can leave a patchy finish if not mixed well prior to use.
2. Using a low pressure garden sprayer, apply a heavy even coating to the substrate ensuring surface has been fully covered. Allow the sealer to penetrate the surface for 5 minutes.
3. If the sealer has fully absorbed into the surface after 5 minutes, an additional coat should be applied immediately. Ensure all subsequent applications are light and even to prevent pooling. For highly porous surfaces, multiple coats may be necessary to achieve optimal results.
4. Any excess sealer that has not absorbed into the surface within 10 minutes of application must be removed using a lambswool applicator, microfibre cloth, or clean rag. Allowing unabsorbed sealer to dry on the surface will lead to a visible, cloudy residue remaining on the surface.
Note: Do not apply an additional coat if the previous coat has dried. Once dry, the product will no longer penetrate the substrate and may result in a white, cloudy residue on the surface.

Dulux Avista Concrete Sealer Waterbased Tintable Base can be used for internal and external concrete surfaces as well as paved areas. It has UV and fade resistance and resists stain, dirt as well as hot tyre pickup. It has good marking resistance, is non-yellowing, fast drying and has low odour.

SYSTEM FOCUS: WATERBASED TINTABLE SEALER
Introducing Dulux Avista Adhesion Additive
To be used with Dulux Avista Waterbased Sealed Surface Primer.
Provides improved adhesion over previously coated interior and exterior alkyd surfaces.
Previously Sealed Concrete
1. Place a 10cm2 piece of cotton cloth on sealed concrete.
2. Pour xylene on cloth to saturate surface.
3. Cover with a sheet of plastic film and tape down edges.
4. Wait for 30 minutes.
5. Remove cloth and observe surface to identify existing coating.
1. Clean surface with a commercial grade, general purpose cleaner.
2. Any oil stains should be treated & cleaned with an industrial degreaser.
3. Pressure clean surface at minimum 2000 psi and allow to dry.
4. There should be no pooled or standing water on the surface.
1. If the coating wrinkles from the surface test, the coating is most likely an alkyd.
2. Add 20ml of Dulux Avista Adhesion Additive for every 1L of Dulux Avista Waterbased Sealed Surface Primer and mix for 2-5 minutes with a flat stirrer.
3. Proceed with remaining application instructions for Dulux Avista Waterbased Sealed Surface Primer.
1. Apply Dulux Avista Tintable Based Concrete Sealer per application instructions, allowing it to dry in between coats.
WHITENING IN CONCRETE & HOW TO TACKLE IT
WHAT IS WHITENING IN CONCRETE?
Whitening is the appearance of white or light-coloured patches or streaks on the surface of hardened concrete
WHAT CAUSES WHITENING IN CONCRETE?
Efflorescence & salts build up
• Caused by excess amount of water - either in the concrete mix, or moisture sitting within or below the concrete.
• Rising moisture can deposit salts onto the surface of the substrate. This will get trapped below any coatings, causing it to peel, crack or bubble off the surface.
• Removing any failing coatings and lightly acid etching will help remove the whitening, however the only permanent fix is finding the source of moisture & preventing it from returning.
Polymer floatation
• Can occur in concrete resurfacing and repair mortars containing polymers.
• Can occur due to excess water in the mix or the compound/mortar being subject to surface moisture before becoming fully cured.
• Acid etching can help rectify, but effectiveness will depend on the severity of the whitening.
Moisture entrapment
• Caused when solvent based clear sealers are applied to a damp surface or become wet before fully cured.
• Can typically be resolved with Dulux Avista Rejuvenator.
Micro-delamination within layers of sealer
• Occurs due to poor adhesion between new and existing layers of sealer.
• Commonly caused by failure to re-activate the existing sealer with solvent prior to application, or by the build-up of excessive sealer layers over time.
• Can be treated using Dulux Avista Rejuvenator, though multiple applications may be necessary depending on the severity.

Dulux Avista Rejuvenator aids in releasing trapped moisture, while re-distributing the existing sealer across the surface.
Micro-delamination and excessive sealer build up
Dulux Avista Rejuvenator solubilises multiple layers of existing sealer, re-distributing it across the surface.
Dulux Avista Rejuvenator offers a cost effective and time efficient solution for addressing common whitening issues in sealed surfaces. Traditionally, remediation would require the use of expensive and messy sealer strippers or mechanical grinding, potentially altering the surface profile. With Dulux Avista Rejuvenator, whitened sealed surfaces can now be refreshed and restored quickly, while preserving the original finish.

Dulux Avista Colour Through Oxide is used for full depth colouring of ready mixed concrete. The oxide is packaged in a water-soluble bag which can be added to the concrete mixer and mixed through the concrete prior to the pour.

How many days did it take you to complete the job?
Approximately two weeks.
Was there a special technique/tips you used to help you?
At the entryway, from the landing down to the stairs and into the office area, we incorporated a subtle snake pattern to break up the plain concrete and give the area a unique visual appeal. Despite facing weather challenges with constant rain, we managed to dry the surface using fans and successfully completed the project.
What products did you use?
Dulux Avista Resurfacing System and Extended Wear Sealer.
What colours did you use?
Sandy Beige and Light Terracotta. The Light Terracotta was used to create half circles in the back playground area, providing a fun and inviting space for the kids to sit and play. The Sandy Beige was used for the full circles, adding a balanced contrast to the design.

Approximately 280 m2

What is one project you are really proud of?
We’re genuinely proud of every project we deliver, as each one is an opportunity to create something lasting for our clients. That said, a recent project we completed in Paddington really stood out. It not only turned out beautifully but also received fantastic feedback from the clients and the wider community, which is always rewarding.

This particular project was completed over two days. Was there a special technique/tips you used to help you?
We used the internal processes we’ve spent over five years refining. At this stage, it feels less like following a checklist and more like working by instinct. That experience allows us to deliver consistently high-quality results. What product did you use?
Dulux Avista Resurfacing System with the Extended Wear Sealer. What colours did you use?
We used Silver Sands as the base, with a Charcoal and White fleck. This combination tied in beautifully with the property’s newly renovated aesthetic.
