Welcome to NHP As a mother of three children, I remember how daunting it was choosing the ‘right’ school for them. How on earth did I know what sort of child they would be by the time they were four, especially as number three hadn’t appeared as the decision was being made! Unlike senior school, where you should very much base your decision upon your child’s ability, personality and interests, prep school is more of a decision guided by your heart as a parent. In London you are spoilt for choice, and the options are all very good schools. They provide brilliant education in small classes with amazing cocurriculum programmes. Do you dust off the crystal ball then to help you make that choice? My advice to you is to spend some time visiting schools and getting a feel for them. There will be something, intangible, which helps you to decide which school will make your child the happiest. When they are happy, they will engage fully and work harder which, in turn, will lead to better results. I am delighted to be leading Notting Hill Prep. I have worked in many different schools, and I can genuinely say none of them have been anything like NHP. We have a brilliant staff team, we have supportive parents and we have simply brilliant children who refer to NHP as ‘no happier place’. But it is the culture within the school that makes it so very special. The ‘Thinking School’ approach is fully embedded and it is tangible when you talk to the children. They know how to learn as well as what they need to learn. They can tell you why their learning is relevant and how they can use their skills and knowledge to develop further in other academic areas. They ask as many questions as they answer and are in control of their learning. It is very special to experience.

About Notting Hill Prep
NHP is an independent school for boys and girls aged 4-13. NHP is the first and only independent prep school in England to be awarded Advanced Thinking School status. A Thinking School is one in which teachers and pupils understand and know how to learn and think effectively. This approach lies at the heart of all teaching and learning at NHP. It gives our pupils a true yearn to learn and an intellectual curiosity which empowers them to drive their knowledge and skills forward with passion and enjoyment. They understand the importance of understanding rather than simply being passive recipients of knowledge. We have been a Thinking School since 2014. In 2021, we achieved accreditation as an Advanced Thinking School by the Cognitive Education Development Unit of the University of Exeter and were reaccredited in March 2024.

General information The Local Area: Notting Hill is a vibrant, trendy area with casual cafes lining bohemian Portobello Road. Portobello Market is a world-famous market road which is a 5-minute walk from NHP. The famous movie Notting Hill was filmed here and you will find many tourists here daily. There are many places to eat and shop along this road. Cafés: There is a café opposite the tube station and around the corner from NHP. Pret a Manger is a good place for coffee either after dropoff of before pick-up. 140 Ladbroke Grove, W10 5NE but there are many coffee shops, pubs and eateries on Ladbroke Grove. Public Transport: Ladbroke Grove is your nearest tube station and is less than a 5-minute walk away. We are also well served by many bus routes, including 7, 23, 52, 70, 228 and 452. Additional information: Many visitors download the Uber App as an alternative to using taxis or black cabs Uber App . Citymapper is another useful app which you can download, it is very helpful when planning your routes.
Accommodation: Located directly opposite Notting Hill Prep on Ladbroke Grove, Marsh & Parsons are one of London's most established estate agents. We can connect you with their team to help find the perfect home for you and your family.
Uniform: We want you to be relaxed and comfortable while you are with us. We do not expect you to buy a whole set of uniform. If your school has its own uniform, you are welcome to wear that. Otherwise, we suggest a navyblue tracksuit with a blue or pink tee shirt or polo shirt. You may want a spare tracksuit to wear for sport. If you would like to buy a few items of uniform, our uniform website is www.schoolblazer.com. (We do not expect you to purchase uniform items.) You can also purchase (should you wish too) from our SecondHand Uniform team. If you send us your sizes, we can arrange for a few items to be available on your first day. Food: Our catering team work hard to make delicious meals for all the children and staff. Please see a typical lunch menu here Lunch Menu Sample. We have also arranged that we will have rice available every day for the week that you are here.

If you have a mobile phone, this will be handed in at Reception every morning. Our school operates a smart-phone-free policy, so we would prefer your phone to not have social media apps.
