This bilingual approach is particularly attractive to international families and enables students to move smoothly between education systems in the UK, France and beyond

Admissions and Entry Process

All applicants to Hampton Court House complete an assessment as part of the admissions process This includes an adaptive English as an Additional Language (EAL) assessment, which allows us to accurately identify each student’s level of English proficiency and plan appropriate support from the outset.

An interview also forms part of the admissions process and may take place either in person or via Zoom. Where required, a translator can be provided to support both students and families Following successful completion of the assessment and interview, an offer of a place may be made

EAL Support at School

Hampton Court House provides a graduated and flexible approach to supporting students with English as an Additional Language Provision is tailored to individual needs and delivered through a three-wave model of support

Foundation – Coterie College Holiday Courses

All our EAL students are strongly encouraged to attend our EAL holiday courses in partnership with Coterie College at an additional cost This provides an excellent foundation in English , preparing students for our in school EAL provision

Wave 1 – In-Class Support

All EAL students benefit from high-quality teaching within the classroom. Subject teachers use a range of inclusive strategies such as differentiation, visual supports, scaffolded language, key vocabulary lists and, where appropriate, translated resources Small class sizes allow teachers to provide targeted support while ensuring students remain fully integrated with their peers

Wave 2 – Targeted EAL Support

For some students, additional support may be provided through a modified timetable. English as an Additional Language may be offered as an alternative to another subject, allowing students to focus on developing academic English while continuing to participate fully in school life This support is informed by assessment and review and is typically included within the school provision

Wave 3 – Intensive Support

Students with a higher level of need may require more intensive support. This can include individual one-to-one tuition and/or additional in-class support. This provision is carefully tailored to the student’s specific language needs and is offered for a defined period of time Wave 3 support is provided at an additional cost and is discussed with families on a case-by-case basis

Through this structured and responsive model, Hampton Court House ensures that students with EAL are fully supported to access the curriculum, make strong academic progress and thrive both academically and socially.

EAL Partnership with the Coterie College

Hampton Court House benefits from a unique partnership with The Coterie College who provide high-quality English language programmes for students from around the world. Through this partnership, international students may attend holiday English language courses prior to joining the school or significantly boost their language development during the school breaks

For new students, these programmes help to develop confidence in English, familiarise themselves with the school environment, meet teachers and make friends ahead of the start of term. This valuable preparation enables pupils to begin their studies at Hampton Court House feeling confident, supported and ready to succeed

For existing students, HCH works hand in hand with the college to ensure that each programme is fully aligned to each child’s individual level This allows every student to make exceptional progress in a very short space of time.

We are also working closely with the Education Counsellor for the Turkish Embassy who endorse both schools who provide assistance for Turkish students and the Coterie College
