When Bindi first arrived at the Redwood Area Animal Shelter, she was a shadow of the dog she was meant to be Nervous, shut down, and unsure of the world around her, Bindi had clearly experienced more hardship than any dog should Her eyes told a story of sadness but also a quiet strength. Day by day, our staff and volunteers worked gently with her. No expectations. Just kindness, patience and love. Slowly, Bindi began to trust again. Her tail started to wag. She started to make eye contact She discovered the world doesn’t have to be so scary Still, weeks turned into months, and Bindi remained at the shelter - overlooked by many simply because Bindi had been born with special needs: deafness We did everything we could to set Bindi up for success, including foster homes and explored ways to properly communicate with her However, Bindi soon learned people were not there for her She began to retreat and would no longer greet newcomers. We knew the right person was out there

for her. And then they came. Her family. Her family wasn’t looking for the “perfect” dog. They were looking for a soul to grow with. We walked to Bindi’s kennel and she stayed still for a moment. Bindi was motioned to come, which she reluctantly didslightly in disbelief that it was her we were summoning. Once she realized it was her we wanted - it was instant ‘love at first sight’ The largest smile spread ear to ear on her sweet face The connection was instantaneous and she finally couldn’t believe that someone was there for her Today, Bindi is unrecognizable - in the best way Her transformation is a reminder of what love, time and patience can do Bindi wasn’t broken - she just needed someone to believe in her and now she has a home, a family and a future.
