COMMITTEE CHAIRâS REPORT By Dr. Jetson Lee, Class of 1986
With more vaccinations, we are starting to see an end to the pandemic which has wreaked so much havoc for the past year and a half. The school has been especially proactive with vaccination clinics for student, faculty and staff. Vaccines were also administered to first responders and underserved communities, including people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. As eligibility increased, we were able to vaccinate more and more of the population, including children ages 12 and up. In this effort, we partnered with the San Francisco Mayorâs Office on Disability and the San Francisco Department of Public Health.

I am extremely proud of our departmentâs volunteers during these clinics. We were well represented by Drs. Maryse Aubert, William Cole, Heesoo Oh, Jetson Lee, Marie Tolarova, Mirek Tolar and Mana Naeim. In the spirit of Ohana, Dr. Coleâs daughters Beth, an RN and Emily, an MD participated in some of the clinics. I brought my daughter Samantha, PharmD (UOP â17) to another clinic.

A story about our clinics was recently featured in the Bulletin of Dental Education. With the rise in cases involving the more contagious and virulent Delta variant, we must remain vigilant in our efforts to stop this pandemic. Without our current technological advances and vaccines, I am certain we would have been worse off than we were during the 1918 Spanish Flu pandemic which infected a third of the worldâs population at the time.
