What a joy it has been to take on the role of Head of School at Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart this year! I am grateful to have embarked on this journey in a community so generous of spirit. Your gifts, both measurable and immeasurable, are pivotal in keeping the mission of the Society of the Sacred Heart alive in Houston.

We rely on the support of our families, alumnae, grandparents, alumnae parents, faculty and staff, and friends to help us reach our objectives as educators of the Sacred Heart. As an independent school, we implement innovative curriculum and programming to provide the highest caliber educational experience in the context of our Catholic tradition. Fueled by your contributions to the Duchesne Fund and Extravaganza, together with other special gifts last year, we met the strategic goals of Envision 2022, empowering girls and young women with courage and confidence.

The Duchesne experience is formative and enduring, as we “educate to motivational, inspirational, and transformational leadership” (Goal V, Criterion 07). Our graduates are more than just some of the best in the world; they are the best for the world. Their college/university acceptances and matriculations are wide-ranging and impressive (See page 16). Inspired by the intellectual dimension of a Sacred Heart education, they have learned to seek

truth, to foster goodness, to celebrate beauty, and to embrace mystery. All of this is thanks to you.

I can take no credit for last year’s accomplishments, of course. I have been blessed with a foundation welllaid and graced with a smooth transition into my role. Patricia Swenson offered me kindness and candor as she prepared to leave her beloved school in the hands of someone new. Her love for Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart was apparent the moment I met her, and she has left a lasting imprint upon this institution.

Duchesne Academy is poised for the future. With our dedicated and talented faculty and staff, we will continue to employ best practices in education and to honor our mission that unapologetically caters to girls in the year 2023-2024.

But for now, let us bask in the glory of a job well done in 2022-2023! We hope this Report of Appreciation fills you with pride for being a part of it all and for helping us achieve our mission in Madeleine Sophie Barat’s name.

On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I would like to offer my thanks and appreciation for your leadership. We have much to celebrate in the 2022-2023 academic year – the conclusion of the strategic plan, the kickoff of a campus master plan, and record enrollment and fundraising that exceeded all expectations. Duchesne is in a strong and robust position – with a bright future.

We are indebted to you for your leadership not only this year, but also in years prior. In your eleven years as Head of School at Duchesne you have blazed a path for the school which has taken it to a new level. Academics in all

divisions are exceptionally strong. The addition of the MOD schedule to our programming has propelled learning in Middle School and Upper School into the 21st century.

Our campus has evolved as well – two completed capital campaigns which brought us modern facilities, more space, athletic facilities, and an impressive and welcoming presence to our school. All this was accomplished while maintaining an unshakable commitment to our Sacred Heart, Catholic and independent school identity, and unwavering fidelity to the Sacred Heart mission.

During difficult times you have steadfastly led with courage and confidence through pandemics, hurricanes, floods, freezes, and sometimes challenging relationships. You have consistently modeled for the entire community Sacred Heart leadership. It is because of your leadership that our school is where it is today.

Wherever your travels should take you, please know that you are loved, respected, and treasured for all that you have done for our community, our school, and our girls. Please accept our thanks and appreciation for a job very well done.

Introducing Hillary Feerick-Hillenbrand

Our Head of School

Ms. Feerick-Hillenbrand comes to Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart no stranger to the Goals and Criteria. She spent the last five years leading the Upper School at Carrollton School of the Scared Heart, ranked #1 Catholic High School in Florida, and the only all-girls K-12 school in the state. Ms. Feerick-Hillenbrand brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the Head of School role. Her practice is rooted in research on the education of girls, the importance of spirituality in formation, and in current teaching methodologies. She holds a B.A. in English and French from Skidmore College, New York, an M.A. in English from the University of Miami, Florida, and an A.E. (Association Executive)-MBA from Mid-South Independent School Business Officers (MISBO).

Having taught English at both the University of Miami and Monsignor Edward Pace High School, Ms. Feerick-Hillenbrand began her long career at St. Andrew’s School, a nationally recognized Episcopal, Junior-Kindergarten (JK) through Grade 12 day and boarding school for 1,300 students from over 40 countries. There, she taught all levels of High School English, including AP and Post-AP, presented for the College Board, and held administrative roles including Department Chair and Acting Upper School Head. Her work in the English Department involved aligning curriculum from JK through Grade 12 and overseeing a large team of faculty.

A product of an all-girls, Catholic, independent school education in New York City, Ms. FeerickHillenbrand attended Marymount School, founded by the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary, from Kindergarten through Grade 12. She is steeped in the independent, Catholic school tradition, her father being a long-time teacher and administrator at Saint David’s School in New York City. As an educator of the Sacred Heart at Carrollton, Ms. Feerick-Hillenbrand sucessfully led her team through the pandemic while advancing curriculum develpment, and implementing a new learning management and assessment system.

She and her family are excited about their recent move to Houston. Her husband Jeff runs a real estate business and is looking forward to getting to know the market in Texas. Their daughter, Shannon (Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart graduate ‘22), is a sophomore at Brown University in Rhode Island. Quinn, their son, is not far behind as he enters the Jesuit tradition as a freshman at St. Louis University in Missouri.

Ms. Feerick-Hillenbrand has been amazed by the overwhelmingly kind welcome she and her family have received. The Duchesne community wishes her the best of luck as she joins us this year!

Don’t mind other people’s accomplishments: you can look at them as inspiration or in admiration, but never look at them in comparison to you. Your achievements are exactly that: your own. Take your time, exhibit patience, and embrace all the learning curves that come with simply trying.

One of the most important things Duchesne has given me is the inspiration to become a young woman of great strength, passion, and intellect.

COMMENCEMENT 2023

Commencement Address

by Sharon Karam, RSCJ

In November I was asked to attend a conference in St. Louis for students from each Network Upper School; the idea was to have intergenerational conversation between three RSCJs and young people about the spirituality of the schools they attend – a deeper dive, if you will, into the charism and the Goals and Criteria they hear about so often. We all received a backpack and sticker which read: 200 years, 41 countries, 1 heart, and I’ve found myself thinking about these phrases a great deal as I’ve prepared this talk.

The prayers, presentations and conversation at that conference focused on that history (223 years to be exact) and our international connections (41 countries) and ONE HEART (the Heart of Jesus) and our efforts to make of our world a united heart, even in divided times, just as St. Madeleine Sophie did in her most challenging era of the French Revolution.

But that was my experience — what does it have to do with you? Everything: it’s also your call! to be grateful for the tradition that engaged you: to be faithful to the spirituality that permeates everything we do here, from assemblies to ring ceremonies, from chapel buddies to goûter, from faculty appreciation prayers to masses, from social awareness here in Houston to helping students in Uganda with their tuition. And last night, when you received your Sacred Heart passports and a reminder of your own belonging to that international network, I hope you had at least a moment of realizing how large a world you are called to serve, and how much that world needs your gifts of healing, creativity, and community-building, in addition to serious learning and research.

Let’s take a quick look back at just a few of the amazing changes that happened in the world while you were in Upper School:

First, NASA launched the Webb telescope which shifted what we know about the universe and our place in it - it continues to send back images that are beyond amazing – just two mind-boggling ones: the largest black hole ever discovered can fit 30 billion suns, and a gorgeous image called the “nursery of stars” at the edge of the universe – both awe-inspiring for scientists, poets, and folks like us! (NASA.com).

Secondly, while COVID disrupted your learning process a couple years back, it also helped create a variety of technologies that make it both easy to communicate across the world, and easy to be distracted. Think 41 countries connected by one heart rather than celebrity culture and entertainment.

Thirdly, young people your age and college-bound galvanized across the world to raise awareness about climate issues. I hope you’ll take that passion to your college campuses. It was thrilling to hear about recent efforts to begin composting, and installing beehives here, and students at the helm educating us about how important these initiatives are!

Fourthly, AI (Artificial Intelligence) and its attendant ethical challenges as well as its apparent usefulness in so many fields already, but if ever “a deep respect for intellectual values” applies to a subject, this is it!

So what do these events and changes mean for you? On the one hand, they are the challenges that face your generation as you enter college; on the other, they are challenges you’ve been prepared to address by learning and living the Goals.

So one more time, let's take a look at how the Goals can be your map for life beyond Duchesne.

Goal I isn’t only about a personal and active faith in God for yourself; it’s also about respecting the developing faith of others in your ongoing journey. St. Augustine famously remarked, “Our hearts are restless until they rest in Thee” and there’s profound truth in that, but it’s not a once-for-all rest, but a searching and finding and becoming who we are in God, and discovering that at the heart of things is God, wholly lovely and wholly loving us.

You probably think studying when you think of Goal II, but it’s really about curiosity, about wonder, about being open to changing your mind with new information and about holding several perspectives. Deep respect for intellectual values is maturity of mind, not just getting homework done. It’s reading broadly, loving learning, delighting in new ideas.

Social awareness is finding those who have fallen off everyone else’s radar, and

serving them without any expectation of applause. Just this week you had the opportunity to bring food for the hungry – and summer is the time in our city when kids especially go hungry – so just as we love saying mi casa es su casa, let’s make it real in terms of service to the “least of our brothers and sisters” all year round! As a former theology teacher loved saying: Social Awareness isn’t something we do; it’s who we ARE!

And building community, at which you excel, and which was beautifully on display yesterday at Prize Day as you rejoiced with each other when you received your awards, means not just enjoying the company of friends, but the hard work of reconciliation and the equally daunting work of forming

new communities of purpose. You’re skilled in this area, so go into your college communities as adult practitioners of the art of gathering folks and not letting anyone feel left out.

Goal V. Ah, you’ll have plenty freedom but you’ll have to put the wise in it in order to take charge of your own personal growth, and you’ll have to circle back to the other four goals to find the wisdom. Pray often, not for things, but to be like Sophie and Philippine; learn from wise people; focus on others in need and build community; and above all, be grateful, which in itself, will take care of so much of the small stuff. And know that you may leave here, but we don’t leave you; you remain part of our heart, and Patricia, that is of course true

for you as well. We thank you all for what you’ve contributed to the school, from your unfurling that conge banner from the Lower School roof, to the wondrous artistic achievements, to the athletic wins, and the technology contributions, but most of all for the everyday love that makes us One Heart in the Heart of the Lord. Go do all those things, and more, in your new places.

I leave you with a prayer from St. Paul’s letter to the Philippians, which Sr. Caire and I often sing as grace before meals when we have guests, but I sing now as blessing over you on your last evening here at Duchesne:

“I thank my God for you and when I pray for you, my prayers are always filled with joy.”

We share this list in celebration of our 2020-2023 graduates and the continuation of their academic journeys. At Duchesne, fit, which is multi-dimensional and individually assessed, is the ultimate outcome of the college application process. Our goal is that each student looks back on their college search with pride and moves forward with confidence. Wherever they ultimately go, we want them to continue to cultivate and carry with them the Sacred Heart Goals they have made their own. Schools in bold signify Class of 2023 matriculations.

More Christmas! A third Lower School Christmas performance was added to showcase our Petite Hearts in a pageant sized just right for our smallest vocalists.

A new performance was added in the Spring Dance Showcase and two additional dance instructors were added; one in the Middle School and one for the Junior Charger Girls.

VISUAL ARTS

Two Upper School students were honored at the State VASE competition and a Middle School student received a Best of Show in the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Art Contest.

THEATER

2023 was our largest theater season ever, featuring classic plays (The Rivals), adaptations of beloved books (The Phantom Tollbooth and Little Women), contemporary work (Numbers), and original student writing.

Active Faith

Many Upper School seniors are commissioned as extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion.

Our 15 prayer services are planned by the students and led by Campus Ministry.

Students may choose from up to 13 Theology electives.

Intellectual Values

Social Awareness

All juniors and seniors participated in Social Awareness activities, accumulating over 5,400 hours of service in Harris county and across the country.

157 colleges and universities met with Upper School students on Duchesne's campus.

With over 80 electives, students have a dynamic curriculum to follow their passions.

We offer a robust AP curriculum and work with the University of St. Thomas to offer dual credit courses.

Last year, we inducted 38 students into the Janet Erskine Stuart Chapter of the National Honor Society.

Building Community

Our students are paired with Lower School chapel buddies to celebrate Mass, cheer during pep rallies, and give back during social awareness experiences.

Each grade comes together for retreat in an atmosphere that is shaped by Sacred Heart ideals, Catholic values, and joy.

Our Upper School builds community with the students at St. Thomas High School through events and organizations like choir, cheerleading, band, various athletic events, movie nights, and Mass.

Personal Growth

There are over 100 leadership opportunities through service, clubs, student government, and athletic teams.

Upper School students are afforded to what we call "Voice & Choice," where school leaders support their ideas to make meaningful changes within our community.

MIDDLE SCHOOL

Active Faith

Middle School comes together in faith and unity, strengthening their community through prayer services. This is an opportunity to nurture their spirituality, find connection, and discover the power of faith and friendship.

Middle School girls embark on transformative retreats to grow in faith through prayer and reflection. These retreats become a sacred space where young hearts and minds flourish.

Social Awareness

Middle School participated in grade level trips adventuring to locations such as Camp Allen and Washington D.C. These opportunities provided students with moments of learning, discovery, and community building.

Grade 8 leadership committees provide our students with a remarkable opportunity to demonstrate their leadership skills by creating fun and unique experiences that enrich Middle School and build connections.

Intellectual Values

The Middle School VEX robotics team launched this year and particitpated in competitions and challenges where they utilized innovative technologies.

Last Spring, Grade 8 participated in a livestream call with Colonel Mann, who was aboard the International Space Station. It was an exciting Q & A session where students discovered more about life in space and the mission of astronauts while on assignment.

Building Community

Grade 5 and 6 students spent a day volunteering at the Houston Food Bank. Students learned the value of empathy, teamwork, and giving back to the community through their dedication and hard work.

Grade 7 and 8 students participated in a three-day Intermission community service project where they took the lead in protecting our environment and preserving nature. From cleaning up local parks to planting trees, students made it their mission to nurture a greener, more sustainable future.

Personal Growth

Middle School students focus on taking ownership of their learning by taking a mid-MOD moment to reflect on areas of strength and areas of needed improvement. This practice establishes a solid foundation for personal growth and individual success!

Middle School Passport is a time of discovery, growth and pursuing your passions. Students select from dynamic, semester-long sessions that focus on topics suc h as magazine writing, storytelling through the music of Taylor Swift, and exploring professions within the Healthcare community.

LOWER SCHOOL

Active Faith

Lower School students learn to recite the Sacred Heart prayer, sing liturgical songs, and how to pray the Rosary during assembly time.

They also attend Mass regularly with their Upper School chapel buddies.

Social Awareness

Lower School performs “Lenten Chores” at home during Lent to raise scholarship funds for our Sacred Heart sister school in Uganda.

Grade 1 visits regularly with the residents of a nearby assisted living facility.

All Lower School students with their chapel buddies assembled Christmas stockings filled with hats, gloves, and scarves for SEARCH Homeless Services.

Personal Growth

Lower School report cards now include a social emotional readiness component.

Grade 4 students are reading buddies for Grade 1 to improve comprehension and fluency.

Intellectual Values

Lower School added a mid-year MAP assessment to tailor instruction to each student's growth and needs.

Educators attended professional development courses on early literacy, and math strategies.

Building Community

Lower School regularly engages in academic and social activities with the Regis School of the Sacred Heart.

All students participate in the traditional Halloween Parade.

Doctors Andrea BAKER and Karen HANEY, both class of 2010, have known each other since the first grade at Duchesne. In 2021, eleven years after graduating on the White House Lawn, they found themselves classmates once again, this time as Obstetrics and Gynecology residents at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, McGovern Medical School.

In May of 2023, Andrea and Karen had the unique opportunity to perform an open hysterectomy together. The surgery came about completely by chance: Andrea—then Chief Resident and in her fourth and final year of residency—was filling in for a classmate assigned to the same rotation as Karen—then in her second year.

For Karen, it was a particularly special experience to share with Andrea, as the open hysterectomy was one of her firsts: “There is a certain level of comfort getting to operate with someone you’ve known for so long, and I can always count on Andrea to challenge me to grow in my skills and confidence.”

“Surgery can be stressful, but operating with someone you’ve known for decades and are comfortable with makes the experience completely different,” adds Andrea.

Both physicians attribute their success in medicine to Duchesne, where, as Andrea puts it, “an emphasis was always placed on education and service—both qualities imperative in the [medical] profession.”

Reflects Karen, “Building a career focused on caring for women has always felt like the most natural thing to me. It’s a continuation of the love and support that was shown to me as a student, by everyone: from my classmates to teachers and staff, and of course Sisters Caire, Karam and Dunn. My favorite Sacred Heart goal was always Goal III and I feel fortunate to get to live that goal every day through my work.”

Andrea studied biomedical engineering at Texas A&M University and obtained her medical degree from McGovern Medical School in 2019. Karen earned her B.A. in Biochemistry and Cell Biology from Rice University, and her M.D. from UT Austin Dell Medical School in 2021. She plans to apply for a Gynecologic Oncology Fellowship following completion of her residency in 2025. Andrea completed residency this year and signed a contract with UT Health private practice at Memorial Hermann, where Karen is completing her last two years. “Our paths will definitely cross, and we may be lucky enough to operate again together in the future.”

While swimming as a Duchesne Charger, Jaimie MILLER '13 held almost every school swim record, and still holds two today. She went on to swim for the College of William and Mary, where was a three-time collegiate MVP and a 10-time conference champion. In 2016, she qualified for the Olympic Trials. But she emphasizes that physical activity is just one part of the sport.

In her keynote address at the Upper School Athletics Banquet on May 12, 2023, Jaimie spoke in-depth about the people that shaped her success, and how “being an athlete” continues to shape her identity: “I am a young female working in finance who shows up confidently, accepts the corporate wins and losses, puts in the long hours, and most importantly: is a supportive team member.”

When Jaimie’s family relocated to Houston from the East Coast the summer before Jaimie’s freshman year, she knew no one. In Connecticut, she had swum year-round

with a club team and knew she could make friends through athletics. She was right: some of her Charger teammates are still her very best friends to this day. She notes that the feeling of being welcomed as a new girl is not a typical high school experience and a cultural point of difference with Sacred Heart.

Jaimie now lives and works in downtown Manhattan. She is a member of the Citi Bank Investment Management sales organization for North America. She is a CFA Charter holder and holds a FINRA Series 7 and 63 other licenses.

The Sophie Society

The Sophie Society is comprised of Duchesne’s benefactors who honor the proud legacy of Duchesne Academy and the timeless vision of St. Madeleine Sophie Barat by contributing $2,500 or more. Members of the Sophie Society are leadership donors who contribute $2,500 or more to The Duchesne Fund or $5,000 or more in a given fiscal year, when combined with gifts toward the school’s other fundraising activities.

Since 1979, generous individuals and foundations have made extraordinary, endowed gifts to Duchesne to ensure that many more young women have access to a Sacred Heart education and to support the professional development of Duchesne’s faculty. Duchesne is what it is today thanks to the generosity and commitment of those who have given so much to our school community in years past. Sister Ann Caire Alumnae Scholarship Endowment

In 1995, the Alumnae Association honored longtime Duchesne leader Sister Ann Caire by naming their scholarship fund in her honor. Sister Caire has served the Duchesne community since the school was founded in 1960; first as a classroom teacher, then as the Headmistress from 1961 through 1973, and as the Head of the Middle School from 2001 until 2009. Sister Caire retired from Duchesne’s administration but continues to faithfully serve the school in the advancement department. Sister Caire lives on campus in the White House, sharing her love of Christ and her enthusiasm for education and service with the entire community.

The Joyce and Maurice Beshouri Scholarship Endowment Fund was established in 2021 by Sharon Beshouri and Kirk Geno in honor of Sharon’s parents. Joyce and Maurice were married for 63 years, the foundation of which was their Catholic faith. They valued education and were proud their two granddaughters graduated from Duchesne. Established by the Goizueta Foundation in 2002, this fund provides needs-based support for Hispanic/Latina students in Grades 5 through 12, helping Duchesne to honor our commitment to student diversity.

The Grabowski Family Scholarship Endowment

The Grabowski Family Scholarship Endowment was established in 2021 by the family of Paul, Kathleen, Marissa, and McKenna Grabowski. This endowment fund will be used to support needs-

based tuition assistance for a girl rising into Grades 6 through 8 from a diverse background or unique circumstances. The student selected for this award will have the recommendation of a faculty member or a coach and demonstrate strong academic performance and campus involvement.

Mary and Andy Quinn Scholarship Endowment

The Mary and Andy Quinn Scholarship Endowment was established in 2021 by the Andrew M. Quinn Estate. Mary and Andy were Duchesne parents and later grandparents who valued their Catholic faith and Catholic education. Their daughter, Mary Quinn Royston, is a 1980 graduate of Duchesne. Her daughters, Mary Day (Class of 2015), Grace (Class of 2018), and Rose (Class of 2025) have

and/or will graduate from Duchesne. This endowment fund provides tuition assistances for Upper School students who have matriculated from a Catholic school within the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston.

Lexi Rinicella Scholarship Endowment

This fund was established in 2013 to honor the memory of Duchesne alumnae Alexis Theresa Rinicella. A 2010 Duchesne graduate, Lexi was deeply loved and a leader in her class. While at Duchesne, she pursued a number of interests, including drama and athletics. Lexi’s family and other generous donors honor her life and legacy by providing tuition assistance for Duchesne students.

Traditions Capital Campaign Tuition Assistance Endowment

Donors to the 1994 Affirming Our Tradition – Creating Our Future Capital and Endowment Campaign funded the construction of Duchesne’s chapel and renovations to the White House – and it also established a generous endowment for tuition assistance that continues to provide support to many young women who might otherwise not be able to attend Duchesne.

Cullen Foundation Scholarship Endowment

The Cullen Foundation was established by Hugh Roy and Lillie Crantz Cullen in 1947. Today, Mr. and Mrs. Cullen’s family continues their legacy of generosity by supporting schools and nonprofit organizations throughout the Houston area. In 1997, the Cullen Foundation made a generous donation to establish an endowed fund that provides tuition assistance for deserving Duchesne students.

Marian Fox Martel Scholarship Endowment

In 1998, the Marian and Speros Martel Foundation made a generous donation to Duchesne’s tuition assistance endowment to honor the life and legacy of the late Marian Fox Martel and to provide “assistance to Duchesne in a way that may touch the lives of many young women for years to come.” The Martels had no children of their own, but shared their love through their tremendous support of schools and educational programming throughout Houston

Jacob Memorial Scholarship Endowment

William Joseph Youtt Scholarship Endowment

This needs-based tuition assistance fund supports minority students at Duchesne. Established in 2002 by the family of William Joseph Youtt in honor of his parents, Barbara Wilson Youtt and William Francis Youtt, the family recognized Duchesne Academy for providing a superior education for young women and expressed a strong desire to ensure students of all ethnicities have the opportunity for a Catholic education.

Lawrence G. Lowman Memorial Scholarship Endowment

This fund was established in 1980 by the Lowman Family in memory of Lawrence Gilbert Lowman. Lawrence and his wife, Stel, were members of the St. Michael Catholic Community and stalwart supporters of Catholic education, endowing scholarships at Duchesne and a number of other institutions.

This fund was established in 1978 by Joseph C. Hutcheson II, Mary Catherine Hutcheson, and the Ladies of the Sacred Heart in honor of Mrs. Hutcheson’s mother. The generosity of the Hutcheson family is still felt at Duchesne today as the fund continues to provide tuition assistance for many Duchesne students. As former Headmistress Sister Mary Burns wrote many years ago, “I thank you in the name of those who are working at Duchesne presently and for those who will follow us and who will continue our work of spreading the love of Jesus Christ.”

Allison Atwater Memorial Scholarship Endowment

Allison Atwater Allen was a member of Duchesne’s Class of 1971. She came to Duchesne her junior year and became a leader in her class, serving as class president her senior year. Allison went on to college and then to law school, and she practiced law for just over a year before she was diagnosed with cancer. Allison died in 1984 at the age of 31. Her family and friends have made generous donations to Duchesne in honor of her memory and to support a student in her junior year who excels in Government.

Theodore J. Munchak Student Athletic Endowment

The Munchak Student Athletic Award was established in 1995 by Dr. Jonathan Dora in honor of his uncle, Theodore J. Munchak. Mr. Munchak believed that his participation in sports had a tremendous positive impact on his life. The Munchak award is presented annually to a student in solid academic standing who also excels in athletics.

AON Merit Scholarship Endowment

The AON Merit Scholarship was endowed in 1994 by AON (now AON Hewitt) as part of the Affirming our Tradition – Creating Our Future Capital and Endowment Campaign. This fund provides a merit tuition award to a rising Grade 8 student who has a strong aptitude and excellent grades in math and science.

Mary Margaret McCarthy and Harry Edwin Davis Scholarship Endowment

Established in 1990 by Duchesne alumnae Donna Lee Davis (’80), the Mary Margaret McCarthy and Harry Edwin Davis Scholarship was endowed to honor the memory of Ms. Davis’ mother and brother, who were both gifted artists. This tuition assistance grant is awarded annually to a student who is artistically gifted to ensure that she has the opportunity to receive a Duchesne education.

Anna M. Moran Speaker’s Endowment

This fund was established in 2001 by the W.T. and Louise S. Moran Foundation in memory of Anna M. Moran, who had a lifelong love of literature and learning. Proceeds from the fund provide financial support for various speakers and programs enjoyed by Duchesne students and faculty every year.

Duchesne Faculty Enrichment Program Endowment

The 1994 Affirming Our Tradition – Creating Our Future Capital and Endowment Campaign raised significant funds to endow professional development and perpetual learning for Duchesne’s faculty. Duchesne’s faculty continue to benefit from the generosity of the many Duchesne families and friends who supported this effort.

Bean Family Faculty Development Endowment

In 2009, the Bean family made a generous donation to the Reaching Up, Branching Out Capital and Endowment Campaign to provide continuing support for Duchesne’s professional development program.

Shanna and Andrew Linbeck Endowment

In 2010, Shanna and Andrew Linbeck established a fund as a part of the Reaching Up, Branching Out Capital and Endowment Campaign to endow a portion of the salary of a middle school science teacher. The fund was given in memory of Constance Baird Linbeck, who earned a degree in Biology from St. Mary’s University in South Bend, Indiana. Mrs. Linbeck was a member of the St. Anne’s Catholic Community and a steadfast supporter of Duchesne and Catholic education.
