ARP events for the rest of 2026.
News, forecasts and other insights from the world of relocation.
A Message from Tad In the last newsletter I indicated that there were many further changes to come. Well, there are two highly significant changes coming into force as of the 1st of September. Membership Categories It has become clear across the world that working together makes us stronger and so after four decades the ARP is to simplify its membership categories, there will only be one ‘membership’ and it will be open to anyone who works in or touches the relocation or mobility sector this will include Letting Agents. In the past Letting Agents were seen as competition when they started offering relocation services and to a degree they are but no more competition than two different relocation firms competing for the same RFP. What they offer is different to destination services providers, field consultants and property finders. They are tied to the properties that they are marketing whereas the traditional relocation firm is not. Nonetheless they are a valid group within the sector and as such I have changed my view in relation to their membership. Things change and in 40 years this industry has reinvented itself several times. Oddly the ARP’s founders left the door open for this change to occur without fuss as the Articles of Association only refer to ‘members’ of the Association. It was the initial members who introduced the various categories. Welcome Ireland Another important development is the creation of an Irish Chapter of the ARP. In this case this is history repeating itself, because in the early days the ARP had several members in Ireland. In fact, my first every international business trip was to Dublin to meet the members. However, the advent of EuRA changed things in the late 1990s. Today’s world is very different, and we see many National Associations being created around Europe and indeed globally. This is because governments are instigating changes that need a national voice to fight those that might affect the relocation sector, whether they may be positive or negative. In the case of Ireland, the ARP offered to provide a vehicle for them to join, so that they did not need to form a new association, it seemed logical, we speak
the same language, the ARP can provide the backoffice function and deal with membership issues. The only thing we cannot do is deal with issues relating specifically to Ireland, but they will form their own local Board to deal with these. It seems fortuitus that we decided to run this year’s 40th anniversary conference in Belfast effectively sealing the relationship Stronger Together With these two groups joining, the ARP will gain strength and benefit from greater resources to enable it to do more for members in the future and build on what we have already achieved in the last couple of years following the introduction of more member involvement with the Communications and Events and the PR Committees. One of the first issues is to ensure that the ARP has a dedicated administrator to handle membership, deal with conference and other bookings and generally look after day-to-day issues. Of course, we will continue to build relationships with other European and global associations. With a larger membership we can build on the membership perks that exist today, the most significant of which is the ‘Business Help Line’, that members use for all manner of issues including employment law, property rental related questions, VAT issues etc. Other perks include webinars (both free and at reduced cost) relating to Anti-Money Laundering, reduced cost currency transfers, AI that automates homesearch and training at reduced cost from both EuRA and Ariosi.
So What Next We are preparing for a fantastic event in Belfast which will come with a few surprises. We are already grateful to those who have signed up as sponsors but would be delighted to see more and of course we would encourage more participants. In the light of the success of last years event, which sold out we have ensured that we can accommodate more delegates. And do not forget to enter the ARP Awards, we now have a brilliant list of judges and there are many different categories and of course it is free to enter. There is also an event in Edinburgh in October in conjunction with ‘Movers & Shakers’ and of course the Christmas lunch in December, famous for its impossible quiz. If you purchase the Conference and the Lunch at the same time you receive a £20 discount. Tad Zurlinden ARP Chief Executive Officer
A Message from Jo I have absolutely loved putting this issue of the ARP newsletter together. There is so much going on across the Association, and across our industry, at the moment that the hardest part has been fitting it all in! It has certainly been a busy year so far. We’ve continued to grow our programme of events, introduced even more benefits for our members, and we’re now getting very excited for our 40th Anniversary Conference in Belfast this November. Add to that the launch of our new Ireland Chapter, changes to make ARP membership even more inclusive, and plenty more happening behind the scenes, and there is a real sense of momentum across the Association. Something I’m particularly proud of is the continued growth of our membership perks. We want ARP membership to deliver genuine value and, importantly, a tangible return on investment for our members. From the Business Help Line and training opportunities to webinars, preferential rates and new partnerships, we will continue looking for ways to add benefits that support our members and their businesses day to day. And there is more to come! Our events calendar isn't slowing down either. Before Belfast, we’ll be heading to Edinburgh in October for our collaboration with Movers & Shakers, and then, following the Conference, we'll round off the year with the always-popular ARP Christmas Lunch in December. And of course, Belfast is getting closer! After the success of last year's sold-out conference, we've been working hard to make our 40th anniversary event something really special. We have some fantastic sessions planned, brilliant speakers joining us and, as Tad has mentioned, a few surprises along the way. I genuinely can't wait to see so many of you there. One of the things I love most about being part of the ARP is seeing just how much can be achieved when members get involved. Our Communications & Events Committee is full of ideas and enthusiasm, and alongside the Executive Board, PR Committee and wider membership, there is a huge amount happening to keep moving the Association forward.
And it’s not just the ARP that has been busy! There has been so much happening across the relocation and global mobility industry, so make sure you take some time to get up to speed in our Industry News & Insights section. There’s plenty to catch up on! So, grab a cuppa and enjoy this issue - it’s a packed one! And as always, if there is something you would like to see from the ARP, whether that's an event, a member benefit, a webinar or simply an idea you think we should explore, please get in touch. This is your Association, and we want our members to help shape what comes next. See you in Belfast! Jo Webb Executive Board Member, ARP Communications & Events Committee Chair and Head of OrbiRelo
A Message from Simon The Board has been working through a process to appoint a PR and communications partner to help the ARP find a stronger, clearer public voice, and we wanted to give members a short update on where things stand. We had hoped to reach a decision by now, but unfortunately a few matters outside our control have pushed the timetable back slightly, and we're grateful for members' patience while we take the time to get this right. We expect to be in a position to update members further in the coming months, and will share more detail on the plans for the year ahead once an appointment is made. It's worth pausing on why this matters. Barely a week goes by without another headline on immigration: net migration figures, rising salary thresholds for Skilled Worker visas, a sharp increase in sponsor licence revocations, and debate over which occupations should retain any access to overseas talent at all. Much of that debate is conducted in blanket terms, about “reducing migration” in general, with little distinction drawn between irregular routes and the sponsored, taxed, compliant skilled professionals that our members help businesses bring into the country because they simply cannot fill those roles locally. For ARP members, and for the companies and employees you support, this is not an abstract policy argument. It shows up directly in your day-to-day work: fewer straightforward moves, more friction around housing, school places and settlement, and employers increasingly asking whether relocating specialist talent to the UK is still worth the cost and uncertainty. Every assignment that stalls or falls through because of this environment is a business that may take its investment, and its jobs, elsewhere. Closing that gap between how the debate is framed and what actually happens in professional, employer sponsored relocation is precisely what this tender process is about: giving the ARP a confident, evidence based voice that separates skilled worker mobility from the wider immigration conversation, and makes the case for why it matters to UK plc. Without getting into the detail of individual submissions, the ideas put to us range from building a
stronger evidence base on the economic contribution of skilled relocation, to sharper, better-targeted media and digital engagement, to more direct ways of getting our message in front of the policymakers and journalists who shape this debate. Whichever partner we appoint, the goal is the same: to make sure the industry's voice is heard clearly and consistently, not lost in the noise. Thank you again for your patience. As ever, if you have views on what you'd like the ARP's public voice to sound like, the Board would love to hear from you.

Stronger Together: Introducing the ARP Ireland Chapter There couldn’t be a more fitting announcement for an edition of Stronger Together.
knowledge, experience and priorities of the local market.
We are delighted to announce the launch of the ARP Ireland Chapter – an exciting new chapter (quite literally!) for the Association and another important step in bringing our relocation and mobility community closer together.
The Ireland Chapter will be able to develop its own programme of events, webinars, networking and educational opportunities, as well as identify and lead on lobbying priorities and industry issues specifically relevant to Ireland.
Following unanimous support from the ARP Executive Board, the Ireland Chapter will form part of the existing ARP structure, benefiting from the backing, resources and infrastructure of the Association while having its own voice, priorities and direction shaped by the relocation and mobility community in Ireland.
As the Chapter develops, it will also establish its own Communications & Events and PR subcommittees. These will work alongside the existing ARP committees, sharing knowledge, ideas and best practice while collaborating on initiatives where there is an opportunity to achieve more together.
And that last part is incredibly important.
Importantly, the Ireland Chapter will also have dedicated representation on the ARP Executive Board, giving members in Ireland a direct voice within the wider Association.
The Ireland Chapter is being developed with strong leadership from within the Irish market itself, and we’re delighted to recognise three founding members who have been instrumental in driving the initiative forward: David Gilmartin – Director of Customer & Client Success, GlobalWealth360 Mark O’Connor – Managing Director, ADOOR Serviced Apartments Sandra Stynes – Founder & Executive Director, Stella Corporate Housing David, Mark and Sandra will work alongside the ARP to help grow the Chapter’s membership and shape its initial direction, ensuring that it delivers genuine value for those working within the Irish relocation and mobility sector. A local voice, with the backing of the wider ARP So, what does an Ireland Chapter actually mean? The aim is simple: to combine the strength and infrastructure of an established Association with the
It really is the Stronger Together philosophy in action – retaining a strong local identity and voice while benefiting from the knowledge, connections and support of the wider ARP community. Could you be part of ARP Ireland? We now want to hear from our members. If your organisation is already an ARP member and has offices, operations or a presence in Ireland, we would love you to get involved from the beginning. This is an opportunity to help shape the Chapter, its priorities and what you would like to see it deliver. Please contact events@arp-relocation.com to register your interest. And if you’re based in Ireland or operate within the Irish relocation and mobility sector but aren’t currently an ARP member, there has never been a better time to join the Association and become part of this growing community.
Belfast, here we come! The timing of the launch couldn’t be better. On 11–12 November, the ARP community will come together in Belfast for our 40th Anniversary Conference & Awards. With the launch of ARP Ireland, it feels particularly special that our flagship event will be heading to Belfast this year – giving members from across the UK, Ireland and further afield the perfect opportunity to meet, exchange ideas and build new connections. The Ireland Chapter is at the very beginning of its journey, and there is plenty more to come. We’re hugely excited to see where David, Mark, Sandra and the growing Irish membership take it – and to see what we can achieve by working together. After all, that’s exactly what the ARP is about. Stronger Together.

ARP 40 Anniversary Conference What to Expect in Belfast Forty years is a milestone worth celebrating — and the ARP’s 40th Anniversary Conference is set to be a conference with a difference. Taking place in Belfast on 11 and 12 November, this year’s conference will bring together relocation professionals, corporate mobility teams, RMCs, suppliers and industry experts for two days of networking, learning, discussion and celebration. But this isn't about sitting back and listening to a succession of presentations. The 2026 programme has been designed to be interactive, thought-provoking and highly relevant to the issues facing our industry today. Delegates will have opportunities to challenge assumptions, share experiences, work through real-world scenarios and hear directly from corporate clients. From housing shortages and rising costs to AI, compliance, changing mobility models and employee expectations, the programme will tackle the questions that are shaping the future of global mobility. And, of course, there will be plenty of opportunities to reconnect with old friends, meet new people and celebrate the ARP's 40th anniversary together.

It is an opportunity to look at where the ARP is today, recognise the work being done across the Association and set the scene for the day ahead.
Session 1: The Middle Ground Host: Ashley | Support: Kelly & Carlos
Forget the traditional panel debate. The Middle Ground puts delegates at the centre of the conversation. A series of thought-provoking statements will be presented to the room, with delegates asked to decide whether they agree, disagree or sit somewhere in the "middle ground". Topics will explore some of the industry's biggest tensions, including AI versus human service, cost versus employee experience, policy flexibility, sustainability, duty of care and the future role of RMCs. The aim isn't to find a single right answer. Instead, facilitators will encourage different perspectives and open discussion before bringing the room together to identify where common ground exists. Because in global mobility, the answer is rarely as simple as yes or no.
Session 2: Industry Breakout Tables Lead: Robert Somner
This session takes delegates away from the traditional conference format and into facilitated, industry-focused discussions. Delegates will rotate through breakout tables exploring some of the biggest challenges and opportunities facing global mobility today. Topics will include: UK Corporate Housing Market: Changes & Updates on Renters' Rights With housing increasingly becoming a constraint on mobility programmes, this table will explore whether relocation programmes are still being designed on the assumption that suitable housing will always be available. The discussion will consider housing shortages, affordability, temporary accommodation supply, changing employee requirements and the expansion of mobility beyond London. Household Goods & Removals: Is the Traditional Move Changing? The way employees relocate their belongings is changing. Rising shipping and removal costs, longer lead times, sustainability expectations and increasingly flexible or shorter-term assignments are challenging the traditional approach of moving an employee's entire household from one country to another. This table will explore how household goods and removals services need to evolve alongside changing mobility models — from full international moves and storage to smaller shipments, furniture rental, allowances and employees choosing to replace rather than relocate belongings. The discussion will also consider customs and border challenges, insurance, sustainability, managing employee expectations and the importance of visibility and communication throughout the moving process. Ultimately, does the traditional household goods shipment still fit the modern mobile employee — and what should the service look like next? Cost Pressure vs Experience: An Unsustainable Trade-Off? Relocation costs have risen significantly since the pandemic, while employees continue to expect flexibility, personalisation and greater support. This table will explore the tension between shrinking or capped budgets and the need to deliver a high-quality employee experience — including the challenges around lump sums, managed programmes, flexibility, governance and demonstrating ROI.
Compliance Is Now a Real-Time Risk Function Immigration, tax and labour regulations continue to change rapidly, while digital border systems and e-visas are increasing scrutiny and traceability. This discussion will consider whether compliance is still something mobility teams react to, or whether it needs to be embedded into programme design from the outset. It will also explore the growing overlap between mobility, legal, tax and risk — and what happens when responsibility becomes fragmented across multiple teams and suppliers. The Fragmentation of Mobility Models The traditional long-term expatriate assignment is no longer the only model. Remote working, e-migration, short-term assignments, project-based moves, commuters and hybrid relocation models are creating increasingly complex mobility programmes. So, do we even have a clear definition of "relocation" anymore? This table will explore whether policies are keeping pace with new ways of working — and the resulting challenges around tax, payroll, benefits and governance. Technology & AI: Underused but Overhyped? AI is one of the most talked-about subjects in global mobility, but how much is actually being used? This discussion will look beyond the hype to explore whether businesses are genuinely transforming mobility through technology — or simply digitising existing inefficiencies. Delegates will consider data silos, predictive analytics, cybersecurity and the potential for AI to move mobility from a transactional function towards something more predictive and strategic. The objective across every table is simple: identify the challenges, share what's working and consider what comes next. Ariosi Training Session A dedicated one-hour CPD-style training session delivered by Ariosi will provide delegates with the opportunity to step away from the broader industry debate and focus on professional development.
Session 3: Relocation Crisis Room Lead: Debbie Ward
One of the headline sessions of the conference, the Relocation Crisis Room will put delegates' problem-solving skills to the test. Working in teams, delegates will be given realistic relocation scenarios involving multiple stakeholders and competing priorities.
Then things will start to change... Immigration delays, property problems, family concerns, budget constraints, client expectations and duty of care issues will be introduced as the scenario develops. Teams will need to adapt, collaborate and make decisions as new information emerges before presenting their final solution. The session is designed to demonstrate just how complex relocation can become — and the importance of collaboration between corporates, RMCs and suppliers when things don't go according to plan.
Session 4: Reverse Client Panel Host: Jo Webb
What do you really want to know from corporate mobility and HR teams? The Reverse Client Panel puts that question directly in the hands of delegates. Rather than a traditional panel where speakers arrive with prepared talking points, attendees will help shape the conversation. Questions can be submitted ahead of the conference and there will also be an opportunity to submit questions during the session itself. Our panel brings together: Pooja Chawla, Senior Talent Acquisition Manager, AVEVA Orla Kee, Global HR Director, Speedcast Catherine Lee, Associate Director (Immigration), Deloitte LLP
The aim is simple: to hear what delegates really want to know from corporate clients. What are corporates looking for from their mobility partners? How are mobility programmes changing? What really matters when selecting suppliers? How are employee expectations evolving? Where does technology fit? What challenges are keeping mobility and HR teams awake at night? These are just examples — but the audience will ultimately decide what gets discussed. With questions submitted both before and during the conference, the session will be driven by the issues, challenges and topics that matter most to the people in the room. Expect honest perspectives, practical insight and a conversation shaped by the ARP community — not a preprepared panel script.
Closing Session – 3.45pm – 4pm The conference will close with a final wrap-up, bringing together some of the key themes and conversations from the day. And there is one final reveal... Where will the ARP Conference take us in 2027? The venue for the 2027 ARP Conference will be announced during the closing session.
40 Years of the ARP: The Awards Gala Evening The conference may finish, but the celebrations certainly won't. The evening will bring everyone together to celebrate 40 years of the Association of Relocation Professionals and recognise excellence across the relocation industry. Expect welcome drinks, entertainment, the ARP Awards Ceremony, gala dinner, a DJ and plenty of opportunity to continue the conversations from the day. After four decades of bringing the relocation community together, this is a milestone worth celebrating properly. Make Sure You’re In It to Win It! The ARP 40th Anniversary Conference isn't just about coming together, sharing ideas and celebrating our industry — it's also about recognising the people, businesses and innovations that are making a difference. And with the ARP celebrating 40 years, what better year to put your organisation, team or initiative in the spotlight? The ARP Awards 2026 The following award categories are now open for entries:
🏆 DSP of the Year – UK or International 🏆 Excellence in Temporary Housing – Provider or Agent 🏆 Excellence in School Services 🏆 Excellence in Removals 🏆 Excellence in Specialist Providers 🏆 Best Use of Technology 🏆 Best Sustainability Initiative 🏆 Industry Inspiration Whether you've introduced an innovative new service, delivered exceptional support to relocating employees, transformed your use of technology, improved your sustainability credentials or simply made an outstanding contribution to our industry, this is your opportunity to showcase what you do best.
Why enter? Winning an ARP Award is about more than having a trophy on your desk. It's an opportunity to: Put your organisation in the spotlight in front of the ARP community and wider relocation industry. Recognise your team's achievements and give them the recognition they deserve. Demonstrate your expertise and credibility to clients, partners and prospective customers. Showcase innovation and best practice within your area of the industry. Stand out from your competitors and demonstrate what makes your organisation different. Celebrate your success with colleagues and industry peers at the ARP's 40th Anniversary Gala. And, importantly, you don't need to be the biggest organisation in the industry to win. The awards are about the quality of your work, the impact you've made and the difference you've delivered. Independent judging This year, we're strengthening the independence of the ARP Awards judging process, ensuring entries are assessed fairly, consistently and by individuals who bring extensive experience from across the wider relocation and business community. The following categories will all be judged by our three independent judges: DSP of the Year – UK or International Excellence in Temporary Housing – Provider or Agent Excellence in School Services Excellence in Removals Excellence in Specialist Providers Industry Inspiration Each judge will independently score every entry within these categories. Scores from all three judges will then be combined and an average score calculated, with the highest-scoring entry in each category named the winner. Independent Judges Steve Jordan Steve Jordan has been involved in the international moving industry since 1974. He started with Scotpac then later became a partner in Avalon Overseas where he rose to the position of Managing Director. The company was sold to Transeuro (TEAM) in 1989. Steve sold The Mover in 2023 and now continues to work in the industry in a freelance capacity. Her resulting book, Repotting Your Life, has been met with international critical acclaim. Frances's understanding of business issues, gleaned from her own experience in creating a specialised construction company, led to her election as an Honorary Fellow of the British Association of Women Entrepreneurs. She is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and a Founder Member and Fellow of the Professional Speakers Association.
Corporate Partner Judging For two categories, we're bringing the corporate voice directly into the judging process. Best Use of Technology and Best Sustainability Initiative will be judged by our corporate partners, bringing the perspective of organisations managing talent, people and mobility programmes in the real world. Our corporate judging panel is: Pooja Chawla, Senior Talent Acquisition Manager, AVEVA Orla Kee, Global HR Director, Speedcast Catherine Lee, Associate Director (Immigration), Deloitte LLP
Each corporate judge will independently review and score the submissions, with the highest average score determining the winner in each category. By combining our independent industry judging panel with the perspectives of our corporate partners, the ARP Awards 2026 aim to recognise genuine excellence, innovation and impact from across the relocation industry.

Second Nature A Second Nature hometel gives you the ease of home and the service of a hotel. Hotels can be too rigid, apartments can be too impersonal. A hometel fills the gap in between. While we're not trying to recreate either, we created the hometel to reflect how people actually travel and live in the world. Silver sponsors QIG – Giving potential a place to live QIG (Q International Group) is a London-headquartered hospitality group with roots in Copenhagen, where it began in 1996 with a simple idea: a stay should feel like a home, not a compromise. Today the group operates more than 1,200 homes through three brands and reaches over 100 countries through its network. Q Apartments, Copenhagen. Where the group began: a leading provider of serviced apartments, with more than 750 fully furnished homes across Copenhagen and Odense. The newest addition is Q Hotel Apartments in Valby, 63 aparthotel apartments for stays from a single night. Aeria, London. More than 400 design-led serviced apartments across 20 residences in nine neighbourhoods, from Mayfair to Canary Wharf, fully serviced with 24/7 guest support and Green Tourism certification. Q Global Network, worldwide. A global temporary housing provider that finds, vets and books serviced apartments for people relocating, across 100+ countries and to one standard: six-step vetting on every property, one point of contact, one invoice and 24/7 support with duty-of-care visibility. Because QIG owns and runs its own buildings in Copenhagen and London, it knows what a good stay takes. The network holds every partner, in every market, to that same bar: whether an assignee lands in Østerbro or Osaka, one group is accountable for the whole experience. Industry Updates and Insights BiCortex Expands Global Mobility Offering with CSM Globals Acquisition BiCortex Languages & Translations is proud to announce the recent addition of CSM Globals to the BiCortex Group. With this new acquisition, we are able to offer clients an expanded list of services, including support for immigration, destination services, tax, payroll, moving services, and more, across Chile, Argentina, and many countries worldwide. “CSM Globals founder Maximiliano Emanuel is one of my closest friends – he’s actually someone I met through the global mobility industry,” recounts BiCortex CEO Inigo Lopez. “We are thrilled to create this formal business relationship after many years of friendship.” Collaboration is a key theme in the BiCortex/CSM story. Max & Inigo have had years of experience working together on projects like The Mobility Light Orchestra, the global mobility industry’s very own band, along with co-organizing and leading multiple industry events. While each company will remain its own separate entity, the joining of forces opens up additional opportunities for clients who have come to know and count on the individual brands. “As for services provided for BiCortex clients, it’s always been global,” clarifies Inigo. “But being able to offer these additional immigration services through CSM, specifically in LATAM, literally opens up a whole new world to us. Graebel and Reside Unite to Simplify How Organizations Deploy and Support Talent Backed by Westbridge Capital and supported by the Graebel family’s continued investment, the combination creates the foundation for a more connected workforce ecosystem that reduces complexity and improves experiences across work and life DENVER, CO – September 2, 2026 – Graebel Companies, Inc., a global leader in workforce mobility and managed services (“Graebel“), and Reside Worldwide Inc., a leading provider of short and extended stay accommodations (“Reside“), today announced they have combined under common ownership to create a more connected approach to workforce enablement. Together, the companies are creating the foundation for a new model that helps organizations simplify complexity, improve employee experiences and support talent more effectively. This is enabled by ongoing support of the combined businesses from Westbridge Capital Ltd., one of Canada’s leading private equity firms (“Westbridge“), coupled with the Graebel family’s continued investment. As employee journeys become more dynamic and complex, organizations are evolving how they support their people, but the systems, providers and technologies supporting those experiences remain fragmented. Together, Graebel and Reside bring complementary strengths that will change the way moves are managed for companies and their employees, better reflecting today’s workforce and workplace. “Where people live has such an impact on their work experience and success, whether it’s for a longerterm relocation or temporary deployment for a shortterm project,” said Ron Dunlap, who will serve as CEO of the combined companies. “Bringing Graebel and Reside together allows us to play a more meaningful role in the employee journey while extending the
value we create for clients. It’s an important step toward simplifying complexity, reducing friction and helping organizations better support their people.” Clients can expect a sustained commitment to service excellence, relationship continuity and delivery against existing commitments, including the teams and contacts they work with today. Over time, they will also benefit from a more connected ecosystem that reduces fragmentation, strengthens coordination across the employee journey, and delivers long-term value while preserving supplier neutrality, choice and flexibility. “Bringing Reside’s 3Sixty corporate housing marketplace platform together with Graebel’s technology and service platform will simplify a critical part of the employee journey, helping people settle in and succeed more quickly,” said Lee Curtis, cofounder of Reside. “This brings us closer to delivering the seamless, end-to-end experience employees increasingly expect.” Westbridge will support continued innovation and help expand the value proposition beyond traditional relocation, helping organizations better support people wherever work happens. Together, Reside and Graebel are creating a foundation for the next phase of growth and a more integrated approach to supporting organizations and their employees. “Graebel has a unique vision for the future of managed moves and is leading the industry into a place of more connected support for companies and people, beyond traditional mobility,” said Mike Meekins, Westbridge’s President and CEO. “We’re looking forward to enabling that vision and to supporting this combination as the first step on that path, with additional opportunities on the horizon to reduce friction and improve experiences across the employee journey.” “Transformation is in Graebel’s DNA and we’ve always sought change that will benefit our clients, their employees and the industry,” said Bill Graebel. “Our family is supportive of this continued evolution of the company and we’re looking forward to working with Graebel leadership, Reside and Westbridge to realize this vision.” Graebel and Reside will both continue as operating entities. Ron Dunlap will serve as CEO of the combined companies, with Lee Curtis joining the
leadership team. The integration process is already underway, with an emphasis on continuity and a continued commitment to client and employee experiences. room2 rebrands as Second Nature What the name is doing If you've stayed in room2, you noticed it felt different without quite being able to say why. The rooms made sense. The building felt like it had been thought about. The night passed without friction you had to manage. That feeling has a name now. From July 2026, room2 is Second Nature. Same buildings. Same people. Same way of operating. A name that finally says what the place has always been. What room2 was room2 started with an honest instinct: that most hotel rooms are built around a single overnight stay, and most people need more than that. More space. A kitchen. Somewhere to actually be, rather than just sleep. Guests arriving at a room2 property for the first time had no frame for it. Hotel? Aparthotel? Serviced flat? The name said nothing about what made it different: the kitchen that was actually stocked, the building that ran on net zero operations, the front desk that stayed open through the night, the B Corp that wasn't a marketing decision but an operating standard. All of that was already there. The name just couldn't hold it. Why Second Nature Names get chosen by working out what a brand needs to do, then finding words that carry it. What this brand needs to do is make a different kind of hospitality feel normal. Not special, not niche. A place where the care isn't performed for you - it's already done. When something is second nature, you have done it long enough that it costs you nothing. The effort is still there. You have just absorbed it. That is the right description for what this business is working toward. Not a hotel group trying to be better. A business where doing it properly has become through enough years of making the harder decision the only way anyone here knows how to operate. Your comfort doesn't have to come at the expense of the building, the neighbourhood, or the planet. That isn't a promise. It is just how the place is set up.
What stays the same The buildings don't change, Chiswick, Southampton, Belfast - the rooms are the same rooms. Winnie's is still the food and drinks at The Bar. The front desk is open 24 hours. The Five Cares - the framework that runs through every decision, from how the energy is sourced to how the team is paid - is still the backbone. The new name doesn't announce an arrival. It describes what was already true. What the name is asking of us Calling something second nature means saying the standard has been absorbed. That is a harder claim than most hospitality brands make, and it asks more of every touchpoint - the room you walk into, the coffee at Winnie's, the way a problem gets handled at midnight. Some of what Second Nature promises is still being built. There are more properties coming - York in 2027, Leeds and Cambridge in 2028, after that - and a new name doesn't make every building identical. What carries across is the standard underneath it: the same way of operating, the same commitment to getting the details right, the same willingness to make the less convenient decision when the convenient one isn't good enough. That is what the name is pointing at. Not where we have arrived. Where we are going.

Roomzzz Aparthotels Gives Back Celebrates Record-Breaking £60,500 Fundraising Year Roomzzz Aparthotels is celebrating its most successful fundraising campaign to date after raising a record-breaking £60,500 through its annual Roomzzz Gives Back initiative and Night of Giving. The incredible total will support the life-changing work of Koalaa Prosthetics and Project Limitless and our charity partners. Koalaa helps to provide innovative prosthetic solutions to children and young people living with limb differences both in the UK and internationally. The fundraising total reflects the passion and commitment shown by colleagues, guests and local communities across every Roomzzz location, with hotel teams organising a wide variety of creative fundraising events throughout July. From the hugely successful Roomzzz Fest at Roomzzz Newcastle to a community BBQ at London Stratford, alongside bake sales, cooking challenges, raffles, virtual bike rides and countless team-led fundraising initiatives across Leeds and the wider Roomzzz portfolio, every aparthotel played its part in making this the biggest Roomzzz Gives Back campaign yet.
Alongside the fundraising activities taking place across its aparthotels, guests also played their part by entering the popular Lucky Room Raffle. For a small donation, guests were entered into a prize draw to win a complimentary overnight stay at every Roomzzz Aparthotel across the UK, with all proceeds supporting this year's fundraising campaign. The lucky winner, Sue Manville, will now enjoy the ultimate Roomzzz experience with a stay at every Roomzzz Aparthotel in the collection. The raffle proved hugely popular with guests and was another fantastic example of the generosity shown throughout the campaign. As always, one of the campaign's defining moments was the annual Night of Giving, where Roomzzz donates the revenue from one night's stays across its aparthotels, allowing every guest who stayed that evening to directly contribute towards this year's fundraising total. The 2026 campaign also introduced the new Roomzzz Gives Back identity, evolving from the former Charity Week to better reflect the brand's commitment to supporting charitable causes and local communities throughout the year, not just during one dedicated fundraising week. Shaan Ahmed, Chief Operating Officer at Roomzzz Aparthotels, said: "Every year our teams amaze us with their creativity, enthusiasm and generosity, but this year has truly exceeded all expectations. Raising £60,500 is an incredible achievement and demonstrates what can happen when our colleagues, guests and local communities come together behind a shared purpose. Roomzzz Gives Back is about far more than fundraising. It's about making a genuine difference to people's lives while bringing our teams together and strengthening the communities we're proud to be part of. I'd like to thank every single person who donated, took part in an event, bought a raffle ticket or stayed with us during our Night of Giving. Every contribution has helped create something really special. It was also fantastic to see so many of our guests getting involved through our Lucky Room Raffle. Congratulations to Sue Manville on winning an
unforgettable stay at every Roomzzz Aparthotel, and thank you to everyone who entered. Every ticket purchased has helped us move one step closer to making a real difference to all of our Charity Partners." Funds raised this year will support Koalaa Prosthetics and Project Limitless and our other charity partners. The £60,500 total marks another milestone in the continued growth of Roomzzz's annual fundraising campaign, building on previous record-breaking years and reinforcing the company's commitment to giving back through the Parklane Foundation. Icon Relocation Celebrates 25 Years This September, Icon Relocation is proud to be celebrating its 25th anniversary. For 25 years, we have supported individuals, families and businesses navigating the life-changing moments that come with relocation. Founded by CEO Simon Johnston in 2001, Icon began with a focus on UK destination services. Since then, we’ve grown into an internationally recognised global mobility business. Icon combine specialist expertise, award-winning service and innovative technology to deliver outstanding relocation services. 25 years of putting people first From day one, Simon’s ambition for Icon was simple: deliver outstanding service for our clients, with people at the heart of everything we do. That philosophy remains central at Icon today, 25 years later. Because we believe relocation is ultimately about people: behind every assignment is an individual, a family or a team making the transition across countries and cultures. As our clients’ needs have evolved, so have we. What started primarily as a destination services business has developed into a comprehensive global mobility offering, spanning relocation, removals, immigration, temporary accommodation, expense management and technology. Our commitment to finding better ways to solve problems has also driven continued innovation, including the launch of our own relocation case management platform, client portal and assignee app. Yet through every stage of our journey, one thing has remained constant: our commitment to an exceptional experience. The people behind the journey Our 25th anniversary is, above all, a celebration of the people who have made Icon what it is today. Our colleagues bring decades of combined knowledge, experience and passion to support our clients. They understand that successful relocation is about much more than logistics – it’s about listening,
communicating, solving problems and being there when it matters. That same philosophy has helped us build lasting relationships with our clients and partners, many of which span more than a decade. The next chapter 25 years gives us plenty to celebrate, but we’re not standing still. Global mobility continues to evolve, driven by advancements in technology, changing employee expectations and an increasingly complex international landscape. Currency Exchange Rates: A Hidden Cost in International Relocation Why exchange rate movements matter for Employers, Assignees and Destination Service Providers Whether an assignee is relocating to the UK, or elsewhere in the world, currency exchange rates can have a significant impact on the overall cost of an international move. Relocation involves countless logistical considerations, from immigration and accommodation to shipping, schooling and settling into a new country. However, one area that can easily be overlooked is foreign exchange. The timing of a currency transfer can make a meaningful difference to the amount an employer or assignee ultimately pays or receives. Even relatively small movements in an exchange rate can have a noticeable financial impact when larger sums are involved. Why do exchange rates move? Currency markets are influenced by a wide range of economic and global factors, including interest rate decisions, inflation, economic growth, employment data, political developments and overall market sentiment. For Sterling, decisions and commentary from the Bank of England can be particularly influential. However, GBP is also affected by what is happening in the wider global economy and by movements in the currency being exchanged. This means exchange rates can move significantly between the point a relocation budget is prepared and the date a payment or currency transfer is made. A small percentage movement can mean thousands For employers relocating an assignee to the UK, currency movements can affect the cost of international relocation services and other expenses that need to be paid in foreign currencies. For example, on a £50,000 or equivalent currency transfer or invoice payment, a 2–3% movement in the exchange rate could represent a difference of approximately £1,000–£1,500 in the value of the transfer. On larger transactions, the difference can be considerably greater.
It matters for the assignee too Currency movements can be equally important for the individual relocating. An assignee moving to the UK may need to transfer savings, or funds for a property purchase, pay a temporary housing deposit, cover living expenses or there may be other reasons to transfer their money internationally. The exchange rate available on the day they decide to transfer their funds can therefore have a significant impact on how much GBP the assignee ultimately receives. For example, if they are transferring the equivalent of £100,000, even a 2% movement in the exchange rate could change the value of the transaction by around £2,000. For someone already managing the financial and practical pressures of an international move, that is not an insignificant amount. Why planning ahead can make a difference No one can consistently predict short-term currency movements, but clients do not necessarily have to leave their currency transfer until the last minute, or the day they are relocating. They can transfer their funds before or after they relocate. Depending on their circumstances, Assignees could consider: Planning currency transfers alongside the wider relocation timeline, not leaving it till the last minute. Transferring funds in stages, where appropriate, rather than moving everything on a single day. Seeking specialist guidance before exchanging larger amounts. Considering a forward contract, which can allow a future exchange rate to be secured in advance when the payment date and amount are known. These options can help clients manage currency risk and budget with greater certainty. An important part of the relocation experience For Destination Service Providers and other relocation professionals, currency transfers is another important piece of the overall client experience. Assignees often look to their relocation provider for guidance across every aspect of their move. Not all assignees know they can receive help and guidance for transferring money across borders. Its important to ensure they are aware of the potential impact of currency movements and have access to specialist support when transferring significant sums. This can
help remove another source of uncertainty for their move. A specialist currency provider can complement the wider relocation service, allowing the relocation professional to focus on their core expertise while giving the client access to dedicated foreign exchange support. Global Shipping Conditions - 1st August 2026 STATE OF THE MARKET Operational disturbances The conflict in the Middle East continues to cause disruptions to shipping in the region, while interim ceasefires and diplomatic talks periodically stabilize routes through the Strait of Hormuz, shipping lines continue to implement widespread booking suspensions and costly diversions. Shipments to the Middle East have seen the reintroduction of some services, utilising alternative routings into the region. However, these services are very fluid and continue to be withdrawn and then reinstated, this usually due to congestion at the revised transit ports, who are not equipped to handle the scale of volume now
being diverted to them. New routings, often involving an overland leg have high additional costs which vary on a continuous basis, meaning long term quotes are impossible. Likewise, the rates in place prior to the conflict are no longer being honoured by shipping lines, which may see previous quotes from movers increase significantly. Often, and despite assurances from shipping lines that all costs had been charged we are still seeing additional charges being invoiced, these can be after the container has been discharged and often directly to the destination agent. So, movers and consumers must both understand that shipping lines can and do apply additional charges. Despite the ongoing conflict, many consumers remain eager to move, however they need to understand that unexpected delays, and higher costs are all but inevitable and are at no control of the moving company. Any new shipments also run the risk of being stranded at alternate ports either under end of voyage or Force majeure, if the conflict escalates or carriers are unable to offer services. Bunker (fuel) increases are forcing freight rates and inland haulage costs, across all trades higher, driven but the rising cost of oil caused by the conflict. In addition to War Risks and Emergency fuel surcharges on freight, carriers have now begun to introduce operational surcharges which relate to pass through costs from terminals or feeder operators. These surcharges are often immediate and may well not have been quoted by your moving company. The consumer must appreciate that the moving company is basing quotes on services that are currently offered, if a shipping line suddenly removes a vessel string, changes or omits its UK port of load, or reroutes the vessel. The mover will need to move the booking to an alternative service which may well have a higher freight cost and potentially longer transit time, but this is totally outside the movers control. We are also seeing all to often containers due to sail on a vessel not being loaded, meaning they are rolled to the next vessel causing delays and adding to the congestion at ports. Again, all of this is outside the mover’s control.
Additionally, the shipping lines may well implement surcharges to pass these additional costs to the shipper and consumer, and these can be applied with very short notice. Meaning costs can change between the mover quoting the consumer and when the shipment actually departs. Congestion & Delays Many transhipment ports on the Europe continent and Asia are congested, this means shippers may well experience delays outside the control of the mover. Transit Times The above issues are impacting the carrier’s ability to maintain their advertised transit times, and there are often vast deviations between vessels. For example, a sailing from Southampton to Sydney Australia, can take anywhere between 56 and 89 days, before considering delays, depending on the selected vessel. As vessels are often chosen based on a consumers load date, there is difficultly ensuring the selection of the faster service. And even if booked on the faster service, there is always the possibility the cargo will be rolled on to the next vessel which could well be a slower service. North America from Europe (shipments to USA, Canada & Mexico): These new Alliances have caused service changes, as ports of load and discharge are altered, and shipping lines may no longer offer services or calls they once did. Many lines are now offering all of their US services from Southampton, and the direct ports of discharge in the US are changing as the carriers roll out their new services. Additionally, due to the removal of capacity by the shipping lines, the Trans-Atlantic trade remains oversubscribed in that customer demand is now greater than the carrier’s vessel capacity. Consequently, this causes rates to increase, and delays and cancellations to become more common. The most noticeable challenge to someone moving, will be the increased notice required to secure space on a vessel, and the inevitability of delays. The likelihood of a container being rolled, left off its intended vessel and moved to a later vessel, or total cancellation of the booking, if this happens it is totally
outside of the mover’s control. Eastbound trades from Europe (shipments to Asia, Oceania, India, and Middle East) The diversion around the Cape of Good Hope for Eastbound trades due to conflict in the region is now well established and schedules are usually followed. Consumers should understand for Eastbound trades the now longer transit times are the norm, and there is still no estimate as to when passage through the Suez Canal will be safe. However, the omission of Middle East calls on some of the shipping lines services to Asia, are beginning to severely impact services to this region. The services that call Middle East ports are extremely full and void sailings where carriers realign their services are causing a backlog of shipments. Similarly, for shipments to Oceania, we are again seeing some congestion in the Transhipment ports in Asia, which has been causing some containers to be rolled multiple times, with the associated delays this causes. Mediterranean services are also being affected, as carriers limit their services into the Med as the traditional route onwards through Suez is not possible so vessels have to turn around and return. This has caused ports to be omitted and longer transit times. Consequently, the most noticeable challenge to someone moving, will be the possibility of the increased notice required to secure space on a vessel, and the inevitability of increased transits times or delays. Additionally, the likelihood of a container being rolled, left off its intended vessel and moved to a later vessel is increasing as shipping lines manage their volumes, if this happens it is totally outside of the mover’s control. Lastly this is a very fluid situation, shipping lines are often reacting to unexpected developments so the situation can always change rapidly. It’s suggested that customers be transparent and plan moving dates in advance with their chosen mover to allow sufficient time to book appropriate vessels, move belongings and ensure their moving schedule is met. Southbound trades from Europe (South, East, and West Africa):
No change. Where a shipping Line does offer a service on a given route to this area, it is usually quite reliable. However, many hinterland destinations (usually served via main ports with overland oncarriage to inland freight terminals) have been removed from the Shipping Line schedules because of lengthy main port congestion and or poor oncarrying transport infrastructure. This has caused a reduction of the main destination ports of call coverage across much of this region, especially the Indian Ocean Islands. Latin America trades from Europe (South America East & West Coasts & Caribbean): No change. Where a shipping Line does offer a service on a given route to this area, it is usually quite reliable. But for these destinations, the clearance and release of a container can take a substantial amount of time, which is usually longer than the free storage a shipping line offers. Consequently, storage charges may accrue. Ultimately, severe service challenges, short-notice changes to container bookings, and variable freight rates, despite downward trends, will be reflected in your BAR mover’s inter-continental door-to-door quotation and terms. DEVELOPMENTS ICS2 refers to Import Control System 2, which is the European Union's updated system for pre-arrival safety and security declarations for goods entering or transiting the EU. It is an EU requirement where any shipment, who’s vessel docks at an EU port following its departure from the UK will need to provide information regarding the shipper of the goods. Therefore, consumers should be aware that moving companies may well need to request more sometimes personal information, however this is at the behest of the EU or shipping line and out of the moving companies’ control. We have seen the EU add the “HHG and Personal effects” commodity description to its watch list, and while legitimate shipments currently should not be affected, consumers should be that a shipping line or the EU may reject a perfectly valid commodity code, which may cause delays while the mover works through a solution. The Environment Agency retains the authority to inspect and stop any container, it suspects may be shipping goods classified as waste. This is
completely out of control of your moving company, but consumers are reminded the time wasted and the storage charges accrued should their container be inspected are not insignificant. The quality of container equipment utilised by shipping lines has diminished, largely due to the additional number of containers needed to service Asia via Cape of Good Hope. The frequency, where a container is delivered, that is unsuitable for the transport of Household goods, which the mover will be obliged to reject, has risen dramatically. While another container will usually be provided, this can result in delays, missed vessels and additional haulage charges, through no fault of the mover. Shipping Line ONE LINE has just confirmed that they will not ship personal effects of assignees holding Russian passports. We are still reaching out to other shipping lines for their positions. But Russian passport holders need to be cautious when planning to move and ensure that the shipping line used can clear their goods at destination. As the accrued storage charges should there be a dispute could be significant. We have heard of some shippers experiencing issues with loading fridge’s and freezers with shipping lines. While both Hapag Lloyd and ONE Line have confirmed they can carry them, they caveated this acceptance, with the shipper being responsible for declaring them as hazardous if and when necessary. Consequently, any misdeclaration could be met with fines, and or the need to remove the goods from the container. UK HAULAGE The recent container road-haulage challenges due to a lack of drivers experienced across the UK has much improved in response to easing demand, with the majority of shipping lines withdrawing their Driver Retention surcharge (DRS). During the prior driver shortage, most moves were transhipped from van to sea-container, via loading at the movers warehouse, which safeguarded against substantial additional costs associated with a container no show at the customers residence. Whilst the preference is to direct load containers at customer residence whenever possible, it must be noted that most container-hauliers prefer the certainty of collecting from the movers warehouse. This is particularly the case in and around busy cities with difficult parking, poor access to residence and increasing prevalence of Low Emission Zone surcharges. So, customers are
cautioned that direct residence loading is prone to container no-shows or last-minute rejections, whereas loading via the mover’s warehouse offers much greater certainty. CURRENCY EXCHANGE DIFFERENCES Shipping Line’s container-freight rates and ancillary charges are usually quoted by them in foreign currency, mainly US Dollars and Euros for sea-freight, and local destination currency for port and oncarriage charges. These ‘freight charges’ are, however, payable in British Pounds (GBP) and converted typically at time of the ships’ sailing date, applying the currency exchange rate at that point in time. BAR Movers generally will include these container-freight costs in their GBP quotation offered to the customer using the indicative exchange rate(s) valid at the time of their quotation. Customers should therefore expect an adjustment of the mover’s final invoice versus quotation, reflecting the actual exchange rate applied by the Shipping Line at time of despatch. A BAR Mover has no control over the actual exchange rate used and applied by the Shipping Line. FUEL COST CHANGES Sea container freight contracts are subject to periodical ships fuel (bunkering) cost reviews. This is a mechanism applied by Shipping Lines which compares the average price of bunkering quarter-onquarter and then adjusts the rate either up or down based on the change. With the well-publicised energy supply issues, bunkering increases adding to the overall sea-container freight cost are highly probable. We have seen increases as much as US Dollars 350 per container in recent examples. PORT STRIKES No strikes at UK Ports are currently scheduled that we are aware of, however customers should be aware of the impact of potential future strike actions which invariably cause unexpected delays to both outbound (export) and inbound (import) shipments, particularly the inbound UK customs clearance time and subsequent container deliveries. LITHIUM-ION BATTERIES The acceptance of ‘Li-ION’ batteries in household and personal effects shipments is a complicated subject.
There is a widely reported increased fire risk associated with these batteries.Shipping Lines themselves are so far inconsistent in standardising their rules for their inclusion or exclusion from a consignment. Typically, we experience that Shipping Lines will decide on a shipment by shipment basis whether Li-ION batteries can be included. This extends to all and any items which may require such power units, examples include but not limited to cordless power tools, laptops, e-scooters, e-bikes and similar. BAR Overseas Group recommends that Li-ION batteries are NOT shipped. If, however, you include them in your shipment, your moving company is likely required to declare the shipment as ‘Hazardous Cargo’. This is not as simple as it sounds. Firstly, your mover must obtain the shipping line’s permission to include Li Ion Batteries as hazardous cargo (not all carriers accept). Next, you will incur a substantial freight surcharge, driving up your cost of shipping. The rules for including hazardous material in a shipment are fastidious; it will also impact the time is takes to secure a confirmed container space booking on a ship. The instances, where a shipment including a Li-ION battery is accepted with one shipping line, but scheduled to sail on a partner line vessel, which does not allow Li-ION batteries are becoming more common. The costs involved due to the significant delays or the requirement to return the container to remove the Li-ION batteries should this occur, can be substantial. Failure to declare Li-ION batteries (or other hazardous goods) in a shipment, whether by intent or in error, is treated by the Shipping Line as a misdeclaration. This is a serious offence under maritime law and would lead to a substantial fine (payable by the customer) (currently circa 30,000 US Dollars); in addition, the Shipping Line could confiscate and dispose of the consignment.
UK Anti-Money Laundering Rules: Changes to Rent Threshold for AML Checks As of 1st July 2026, the UK Government has changed the Anti-Money Laundering (AML) rules for the lettings sector. The threshold for full AML compliance has effectively been increased from €10,000 per month to £10,000 per month. This seemingly small change has a noticeable impact on the process of securing tenancies for high-value rental properties. What has changed? Previously, letting agents and relocation companies were required to carry out full AML checks on both the landlord and tenant before agreeing tenancies where the monthly rent was €10,000 or more. This equated to roughly £8,500–£8,700 per month, but depended entirely on the exchange rate. With the new rules taking effect this month, the threshold for checks is now a fixed £10,000 per month. The change also removes ambiguity and the need to monitor exchange rates when determining whether a tenancy falls within scope. What does this mean for renters? For most tenants, there will be no practical change. The vast majority of UK rental properties are well below the £10,000 per month threshold and will continue to follow the normal referencing and identity verification process. Tenants renting higher-end properties between approximately £8,500 and £10,000 per month will no longer be required to complete the additional AML customer due-diligence that applied under the previous threshold. What checks are required? Where a tenancy exceeds £10,000 per month, letting agents and relocation companies must carry out Customer Due Diligence (CDD), which typically includes: Verifying the identity of both landlords and tenants Confirming proof of address Identifying the beneficial owner where a company or trust is involved Understanding the source of funds where appropriate Reporting any suspicious activity to the relevant authorities where required
