In this assignment, you will critically review 8 to 11 recent (past 10 years) scholarly articles (peer-reviewed preferred) in a minimum of 5 to 7 pages. This assignment is derived from the subject matter in your weekly assigned reading, the overall construct of leadership, and/or the concepts of criminal justice leadership. You may wish to spend some time researching critical review techniques for journal articles prior to starting this assignment. At a minimum, you should pay particular attention to the identification of the premise and supporting points of the articles, a synthesis of the articles, and a critical evaluation of the premises, supporting points, and/or the competing points of the articles. The paper must follow current APA guidelines. The page count does not include the title page, abstract, reference section, or any extra material. See grading rubric for additional guidance in the formation of your work. You should follow the article focus prompts in this instruction set and rubric closely. Remember, the purpose of these literature reviews is to broaden your knowledge of leadership and to prepare you for your dissertation literature review. Journal Article/Literature Review 1 should be on the topic of transformational leadership. Learning outcomes upon successful completion include describing transformational leadership, explaining how it works, analyzing it through recent relevant journals, and discussing its strengths and criticisms. Journal Article/Literature Review 2 should focus on servant leadership or aspects of The Leadership Challenge by Kouzes and Posner. Learning outcomes include analyzing servant leadership with recent journal articles, explaining how it functions, discussing its strengths and criticisms, and recognizing its applications. There have been many books written on Transformational Leadership and Authentic Leadership. Transformational Leadership may be effective in creating positive change within organizations. Authentic Leadership is a newer leadership theory that is more complex to define and measure. The assignment will explore how these concepts intersect, especially in the context of Kouzes and Posner’s The Leadership Challenge and its practice on authentic and transformational leadership.
