Paper For Above instruction Crime is a fundamental concept within the field of criminal justice, defined as behavior that violates laws established by a society and is punishable by government authority. Its relationship to the law is intrinsic, as laws delineate what constitutes criminal conduct and prescribe corresponding penalties. Determining which acts are criminal involves societal consensus and legal statutes, often guided by models that reflect societal values and priorities. Two predominant models describe how society identifies acts as criminal: the consensus model and the conflict model. The consensus model operates on the premise that most members of society agree on the definitions of crime and the laws reflect a collective moral consensus. Crimes such as murder and theft are universally condemned, and laws serve to maintain social order by defining these behaviors as illegal. Conversely, the conflict model views crime as a reflection of social inequalities and power struggles. According to this perspective, laws are tools used by the ruling class to maintain their interests and suppress subordinate groups, thus crime is seen as a manifestation of social conflict and disparity. The structure of the government corresponding to the criminal justice system encompasses three primary branches: law enforcement, the judiciary, and corrections. Law enforcement agencies investigate crimes, apprehend suspects, and uphold the law on a daily basis.
