In this assignment you will identify, describe, and differentiate the four functions. The following steps will help you prepare for your written assignment: 1. Thoroughly read the Introduction to Management module. 2. Carefully consider the four primary functions of management in the context of a business you know. This could be your workplace, Nokia or ThyssenKrupp introduced to you earlier, or another selected business you are familiar with. 3. Select one of the four functions of management that your reading and consideration leads you to believe is the most important. If you believe no single function stands out, then you may select the interoperability of all four.

Planning is the foundational function that sets the direction for all other management activities. It involves defining objectives, determining actions necessary to achieve those objectives, and forecasting future conditions to make informed decisions (Robbins & Coulter, 2018). Effective planning helps organizations allocate resources efficiently and anticipate potential challenges, thereby providing a roadmap for success. Without a robust planning process, organizations risk misalignment, resource wastage, and failure to achieve strategic goals. Planning interacts closely with the other management functions—organizing, leading, and controlling—forming an integrated management system. For example, once planning establishes objectives, organizing involves arranging resources and tasks to implement the plan effectively. Leadership then motivates and guides employees toward goal achievement, ensuring that efforts align with strategic priorities (Daft, 2018). Controlling, particularly through feedback mechanisms such as performance assessments, ensures that the organization stays on track and adjustments are made when deviations occur (Fayol, 1916). These functions are cyclic and iterative; effective planning informs organizing and leading decisions, while controlling provides data to refine future plans. Without planning, management would lack direction and purpose. Organizations would operate reactively rather than proactively, responding haphazardly to external changes or internal inefficiencies. For example, a company without strategic planning may invest in unnecessary resources or pursue misguided initiatives,
