The scenario presented underscores common challenges faced by nurse leaders, notably fear of the unknown, which often impedes decision-making. Reflecting on the scenario, I believe that the nurse leader's response plays a pivotal role in either escalating or resolving the conflict. The leader demonstrated a commendable level of professionalism, although there is room for growth in certain areas of conflict resolution. From my perspective, the nurse leader exhibited a generally appropriate approach in addressing the conflict. According to Finkelman (2016), effective conflict resolution requires a combination of communication skills, emotional intelligence, and strategic thinking. In the scenario, the leader attempted to address the concerns directly, fostering an environment where open dialogue could occur. However, her handling of the situation could have been more proactive, perhaps by initiating a collaborative discussion early on to prevent escalation. This would reflect a higher level of emotional intelligence and conflict management competency. Assessing her conflict resolution skills on a scale from 1 to 10, I would assign her a moderate score, around 6 or 7. While she employed some good practices such as listening and attempting to find common ground, she might have benefited from employing more advanced conflict resolution techniques, such as mediation or negotiation strategies aimed at achieving mutual understanding (Thomas & Kilmann, 1974).
