Paper For Above instruction Part I: Leadership and Team Building Leadership and team building are foundational elements in organizational success, often studied separately but inherently interconnected in practice. To understand their relationship, it is crucial to compare and contrast various leadership and team building theories, examining how these concepts complement and differ from each other. Specifically, this discussion will explore three prominent leadership theories and three significant team building theories, analyzing their characteristics, overlaps, and distinctions. Among leadership theories, transformational leadership, situational leadership, and servant leadership are widely studied. Transformational leadership, as posited by Burns (1978) and later expanded by Bass (1985), emphasizes inspiring followers through a compelling vision, fostering innovation, and facilitating personal development. Transformational leaders focus on motivating employees to transcend their self-interest for the good of the organization, which inherently involves a visionary component. Situational leadership theory, developed by Hersey and Blanchard (1969), advocates that effective leadership adapts to the maturity and competence levels of followers. Leaders vary their style—from directing to delegating—based on the situation, emphasizing flexibility over a fixed visionary approach. This theory underscores responsiveness and contextual adaptation in leadership but can integrate vision as an element when guiding followers through changing circumstances. Servant leadership, articulated by Greenleaf (1970), centers on serving others first, promoting ethical use of power, and fostering community. Servant leaders prioritize the needs of their team members, creating environments of trust and empowerment. While less focused on the charismatic vision associated with transformational leaders, servant leadership underscores purpose-driven leadership rooted in shared values and community building. In contrast, team building theories emphasize the dynamics, processes, and stages through which effective teams develop. Tuckman's (1965) model of forming, storming, norming, performing, and adjourning
