This assignment re-introduces you to the framework of 21st Century Ski This assignment re-introduces you to the framework of 21st Century Skills that you will consider each week as you work to redesign prior coursework for your ePortfolio. You will choose a prior assignment from your coursework in the MAED program, such as a lesson plan or teaching unit, and modify it to demonstrate mastery of the MAED program learning outcomes 1, 2, and 3. The redesign must incorporate elements symbolizing 21st-century learning, including student outcomes—such as critical thinking, communication, collaboration, creativity, core subjects, 21st-century themes, information, media, and technology skills, and life and career skills—and support systems, which encompass standards and assessments, curriculum and instruction, professional development, and learning environments. When selecting and redesigning the assignment, consideration must be given to diverse student strengths, differences, cultures, and communities, while fostering a safe, collaborative, inclusive, and engaging learning environment.

This paper explores the process of re-designing a prior academic assignment from the MAED program to embody these competencies effectively. The focus is on demonstrating mastery of the program’s learning outcomes through thoughtful incorporation of student outcomes and support systems, fostering a diverse and inclusive learning environment, and reflecting on the challenges encountered during this process. In the initial phase, selecting an appropriate existing assignment was crucial. I chose a lesson plan I developed in a prior course, designed to teach environmental science principles. To align this lesson with 21st-century student outcomes, I incorporated components emphasizing critical thinking through problem-solving activities related to pollution management, fostering communication skills via group presentations, and enhancing collaboration through team-based projects. Creativity was embedded by encouraging students to develop innovative solutions, while integrating core themes and subjects ensured a holistic approach to learning. For example, I integrated media and technology skills by requiring students to research and utilize digital tools to present their findings, aligning with information literacy objectives. This redesign directly supports Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs) 1, 2, and 3 by demonstrating an ability to foster engaging, inclusive, and technologically integrated learning experiences that promote
