While I have enjoyed working in surgical settings, my true passion lies in mental health nursing. Personal and life experiences have shaped my ability to serve individuals with mental health needs effectively. When considering options for my Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree, I found myself debating between public health and mental health specialties. My experience working in an outpatient mental health clinic, serving vulnerable populations, deepened my desire to pursue a career in mental health nursing. This internal conflict led me to research and network extensively, ultimately discovering that becoming a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) would allow me to contribute meaningfully to public health initiatives while specializing in mental health care. The rising demand for mental health and addiction services among vulnerable populations reinforces the importance of this path. Realizing that I could integrate these interests, I reaffirmed my commitment to advancing in mental health nursing through an MSN degree. Earning this advanced qualification will enable me to have a broader and more impactful role in supporting underserved populations suffering from mental health issues. Master’s-level nurses are equipped to identify, apply, and communicate evidence-based standards of practice, which are crucial to the ongoing development of nursing. According to Laureate Education (2018), these competencies are fundamental for professional growth and improved patient outcomes. Deciding between an MSN specialization in public health or mental health was initially difficult. To clarify my decision, I examined Walden University's website, researching curriculum details and potential career paths aligned with each program. This in-depth comparison helped me visualize how each path would serve my professional mission and long-term goals, leading me to favor the mental health specialization. Choosing the PMHNP track was also influenced by exploring relevant professional organizations that support mental health nursing. I reviewed organizations listed on the Vanderbilt School of Nursing website (n.d.), assessing their alignment with my career goals. While I was initially interested in Foundations of Addiction Nursing (FAN), I found that its focus was too narrow for my broader aspirations. Ultimately, I determined that the International Society of Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurses (ISPN) offers a comprehensive platform for advancing my career in mental health nursing, providing extensive resources,
