There Are Innumerable Contexts In Which Religion And Politics Come In There are innumerable contexts in which religion and politics come into contact and conflict. From violence against Uighur Muslims by the Chinese State to issues surrounding gender and religion in India’s temples, states must contend with the religious composition of their populations and the challenges these pose to secular society. The final project will involve creating a research poster or a short digital video presentation, summarizing research on the relationship between religion and politics in a specific time and place. Students can select their own topics, with guidance, or choose from provided options. The project should include a brief history of the issue, identify key actors, analyze what is at stake, and offer personal assessment with possible solutions or outcomes. Research should utilize at least three scholarly sources, accessible via Montclair State’s library databases, alongside relevant news sources. The design and layout of the project are flexible, but guidance and models will be provided. The final submission will be in digital format, either as a documentary, narrated PowerPoint lecture under ten minutes, or a Wikipedia-style wiki page created on Canvas. All projects are due on Canvas by May 5, and peer evaluation will constitute 10% of the grade, with students reviewing and grading each other’s work during a scheduled virtual session. Students are encouraged to start early, use incremental progress, and seek assistance if needed through email or video conferences. The project’s goal is to showcase an understanding of the complex relationship between religion and politics, including historical contexts, key players, stakes, and personal analyses.
