Based on the content of the course (Readings, Presentations, Discussion Board Forum 1, and Assignments) choose 1 of the following worldviews (Secular Humanism, Buddhism, Hinduism, or Islam) and answer the following questions (250–500 words). These questions must be answered in separate paragraphs. What practical steps could be taken to build a relationship with a follower of this worldview who might be a co-worker, neighbor, etc.? What barriers/hindrances would exist with presenting the Christian gospel to a person from this worldview? Scripture, course content, and/or research must be included and cited properly in your response this question. What personal challenges might you have with presenting the gospel?

The exploration of different worldviews provides a vital context for understanding how to build meaningful relationships and share the Christian gospel effectively. In this essay, I have chosen to focus on Buddhism, a worldview that emphasizes spiritual development, compassion, and the pursuit of enlightenment. Understanding the core principles of Buddhism is fundamental to establishing authentic relationships and respectfully engaging in spiritual conversations.
Practical steps to build a relationship with a Buddhist follower involve demonstrating genuine respect and understanding of their beliefs. Engaging in conversations about shared values such as compassion, mindfulness, and seeking peace can create a foundation of trust. Participating in community activities, attending meditation groups, or simply showing interest in their spiritual practices can foster connection. As Paul instructs in 1 Corinthians 9:22, "I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some," demonstrating empathy and willingness to understand their worldview aligns with biblical principles of love and relational engagement (The Holy Bible, NIV). This respectful approach awakens opportunities for deeper dialogue about faith, allowing Christ's love to be a tangible reality in the relationship.
However, there are notable barriers and hindrances when presenting the Christian gospel to Buddhists. Many Buddhists hold non-theistic beliefs, focusing on personal spiritual development rather than divine intervention, which can make the concept of salvation through Jesus less relatable. Additionally, the emphasis on karma and reincarnation might conflict with Christian doctrines of eternal life and the uniqueness of Christ as Savior. As Colossians 2:8 warns, “See to it that no one takes you captive through

hollow and deceptive philosophy,” Christians must be aware of and sensitive to these differences to avoid misunderstandings or rejection (The Holy Bible, NIV). Furthermore, Buddhists often regard the Christian message as incompatible with their values of non-attachment and interdependence, which can present intellectual and spiritual barriers to acceptance.
Personally, one of the challenges I face in presenting the gospel to Buddhists is overcoming the fear of offending their deeply held beliefs. Many Buddhists see their spiritual path as highly personal and sacred, and approaching them about Christ may be perceived as intrusive or disrespectful. Additionally, I may struggle with articulating the gospel in a way that resonates with their worldview, especially when emphasizing salvation and divine authority without dismissing their spiritual framework. 2 Timothy 1:7 reminds us that “God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind,” encouraging me to approach such conversations with confidence grounded in love and understanding.
