Artpaper Assignmenttopicvisit A Museum Or Gallery In Southern Califor

Visit a museum or gallery in Southern California and complete an analysis of a single work of art. The work is recommended to be 2-D, but can be 3-D. You must visit the work in person, include a photo of yourself in front of the work or gallery/museum when photography of the work is not permitted. Do not use an image from a book.

The paper should be 6 to 8 pages long, excluding photographs, title pages, citations, and bibliographies. The paper must be typed, double-spaced, in 12-point Times New Roman font, with 1-inch margins. It should be stapled at the top left corner before class, with no folders or tape.

The title page should include the title, your name, your class number, and meeting days/times, centered on the page. After the title page, include an image of the work (if available), the receipt or show card, and your photo with the work or in front of the museum/gallery.

Paper For Above instruction

The body of the paper consists of two main parts: Formal Analysis and Contextual Analysis.

Formal Analysis

Identify the title of the work, the artist, and the collection or museum housing the piece. This information must come solely from your observation; no research should be conducted for this portion.

Complete a detailed formal analysis that describes: the content (whether it is representational, abstract, naturalistic, figurative, landscape, narrative, symbolic, etc.), composition (organization of space, focal points, perspective techniques, symmetry/asymmetry, movement, interaction with viewer), and materials (media used, surface qualities, condition, colors). Use precise art vocabulary without expressing personal opinions or critiques. Write clearly so that someone unfamiliar with the artwork can understand your description.

Contextual Analysis

In this part, find at least three scholarly sources in addition to your textbook (preferably journal articles accessed through JSTOR or Google Scholar). Write about the artwork within its broader art historical, cultural, or contemporary context based on scholarly research.

Explain how the work relates to current art trends or historical movements if applicable. Use credible

sources such as academic articles, gallery websites, or artist interviews to support your analysis. Clearly separate this section from the formal analysis, and ensure your writing is scholarly and well-referenced.

Additional Requirements and Submission Details

The final submission should include a bibliography or works cited page. The paper is due as a final draft, with a preliminary rough draft worth 5 points. The entire project should be well-organized, fully developed, and formatted according to academic standards.
