BINGO 2024

Pinter’s Gardens & Pumpkins, Decorah

Winners announced

‘Because we walk’

Dozens upon dozens of walkers wearing purple shirts in recognition of Alzheimer’s disease completed a 2-mile fundraiser walk Saturday, Sept. 14 in Decorah. Before the walkers took their first official steps through an arch of purple balloons, organizers cited successes the nonprofit had helped bring about, with each factoid receiving a collective response — “Because we walk.” Organizers also highlighted the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s recent approval of a medication which may slow the progression of Alzheimer’s disease during its early phases. The FDA announced in July it had approved a four-week intravenous infusion called Kisunla as a potential treatment, and officials at Saturday’s event indicated the annual walk — and others like it — help to bring about such advances in medicine. THINK BEFORE YOU CLICK OR CALL

Simplify your approach to online security. With the rise in pop-up ads and spam emails, distinguishing between real alerts and potential scams can be challenging. Scareware, which often appears as pop-up ads, e-mails, or text messages, aims to cause panic by making you believe your device is compromised. Remember, no emergency benefits from panic. Take a moment to seek advice from a trusted individual or business before reacting. No matter how convincing the alert may seem, NEVER call a number that comes through a pop-up on your device. Stay vigilant but calm when dealing with requests for personal information, unknown links and software.
