In This Issue

Obviously, there are different segments of the V-Twin motorcycle business, but Performance Baggers stands out among them all these days. They’re popular not only for road riding, but on racetracks around the country, and soon, the world. This issue of Drag Specialties Magazine is a great example of how demand for race-proven products for Baggers is growing rapidly, and also how Bagger racing events are growing into a major spectator sport.

Starting on page 28 in this issue, we have a report from the recent NVP Product Expo in Milwaukee. Most of Drag Specialties’ leading vendors were there showing their wares to the attending dealers. Conversations heard at the show were often about the new carbon fiber fenders, stronger clutches, higher output oil pumps and other products that were specifically developed for Bagger racing events. And guess what? Your Performance Baggers customers who ride their machines long and hard out on the road are also wanting those products for their street machines.

One fun feature at this this year’s Milwaukee NVP also involved Bagger racing. It included not one, but two live “Race Bagger” builds happening simultaneously right on the show floor. Starting on page 39, you will see how Joe Houpt and his staff from Wisconsin’s Suburban Motors Harley-Davidson and Tony Tucker and his staff from Tucker Speed in Utah each converted stock 2017 Harley Street Glides at the show into race-ready Baggers.

All weekend, NVP attendees were stopping by the build area to see how the competition was going, and what different FatBook products they were installing. But that was not the end of it. A few weeks later, both Suburban Motors Harley-Davidson and Tony Tucker and Tucker Speed were in Las Vegas for the season finale of the 2025 Bagger Racing League. You can see how that all worked out starting on page 20.

That 1990 H-D FXRS on this issue’s front cover was customized by Jason Mook of Deadwood Custom Cycles. It was also chosen as the cover bike for the 2026-2027 Drag Specialties OldBook catalog. And lastly, we have coverage of the Drag Specialties Dealer Training Tour at Knoxville, Tennessee, industry news, new products and more. ■

NEWS EVENTS AND LeMans Returns to AIMExpo with Dealer Incentives, Customs Showcase, Free Coffee

Drag Specialties and Parts Unlimited parent company LeMans Corporation is making a high-impact return to AIMExpo for the show’s 2026 debut in Anaheim, California. The company will sponsor free coffee for attendees, offer exclusive dealer incentives, and anchor its exhibit with the iconic Drag Specialties semi. The AIMExpo is taking place January 7–9 at the Anaheim Convention Center.

“A shared passion is one of the outstanding things that makes this industry great,” said Cinnamon Kernes, Vice President of Market Expansion at the Motorcycle Industry Council, which

hosts AIMExpo. “When an event brings together the people, the brands, and the products of our industry, and adds the element of learning and networking, it’s an opportunity that can’t be missed.”

LeMans’s presence will be front and center at the show. Just inside the main entrance, The Starting Line will offer complimentary coffee, sponsored by Drag Specialties and Parts Unlimited. Nearby, the LeMans exhibit will showcase custom motorcycles and new product displays.

“At LeMans Corporation, we’re stepping up to ensure the powersports industry thrives,” said Paul Devine, Vice President of Sales & Marketing, LeMans Corporation. “By partnering with AIMExpo and becoming the exclusive coffee sponsor, we’re not only fueling dealer engagement – we’re also amplifying our brand presence as Supercross kicks off just blocks away.”

The collaboration between the MIC, AIMExpo, and LeMans extends beyond Anaheim. At the 2025 North American NVP Product Expo now held in Milwaukee, the organizations partnered to give away 10 free MIC Dealer Memberships, underscoring a shared commitment to dealer success and cross-industry engagement. The 2026 NVP Product Expo kicks off in Louisville just two weeks after AIMExpo.

“AIMExpo is a strong complement to our 2025 show and 2026 NVP Product Expo in Louisville,” Devine said. “The events give us a chance to support and bring together our dealers, a mission that’s at the heart of everything we do.” ■

Rispoli Wins 2025 Super Hooligan Championship at Mid-Ohio

KWR Harley-Davidson rider James Rispoli won the 2025 Mission Super Hooligan National Championship after riding a race-prepared Harley-Davidson Pan America to two race wins during a MotoAmerica double-header weekend at MidOhio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio.

After the first six races of the season Rispoli was in fifth place in the series and 55 points behind championship leader Jake Lewis. Then Rispoli went on a hot streak, winning both rounds at Laguna Seca on July 12-13. That moved Rispoli to third place in the standings, 22 points behind the new series leader and defending champion, Saddlemen rider Cory West.

Rispoli won the title by dominating the final double-header round, where he topped qualifying around the 15-turn 2.4mile Mid-Ohio course in August with a lap of 1:29.575 and won both races.

“I’ve got to thank the KWR team. They put together a Harley Pan America package that’s so good,” said Rispoli. “Nobody was talking about me coming into the weekend, which actually helped me, and kept the pressure low. I knew this race was going to be tough, but man I’m stoked. I was screaming the whole cool down lap. We put so much work into this. Hats off to my team.” ■

CODY GILMORE CROWNED BRL CHAMPION

2025 SEASON WRAPS IN LAS VEGAS

The desert came alive in mid-September as the Bagger Racing League brought its 2025 season to a close with the Drag Specialties Battle of the Baggers presented by Memphis Shades – Sin City Bagger Showdown powered by Lifestyle Cycles, hosted for the very first time at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

The event marked a new milestone for the BRL. The weather was close to perfect, with clear skies and coolerthan-expected desert air creating prime racing conditions. Fans and racers alike embraced the energy of the Vegas strip, as American V-Twins thundered into town for the championship finale.

Race organizers kicked things off with an official party at Main Street Moto the Thursday before the races, setting the

tone for the showdown ahead. Vendors lined the streets, music filled the air and fans packed the venue for a chance to meet their favorite racers and get an up-close look at the machines. Friday shifted to the racetrack, where riders tested the Las Vegas Motor Speedway course for the first time. Qualifying was intense as competitors dialed in their bikes and fought for favorable grid spots ahead of Saturday’s doubleheader.

Saturday brought a spectacular doubleheader finale with Rounds 7 and 8, closing out multiple BRL racing divisions. Fans packed into Vendor Road, where more than 60 of the industry’s top companies showcased the newest performance parts, accessories, and products in the V-Twin motorcycle world.

ROUND 7 – ROAD TO THE CHAMPIONSHIP

Saturday morning opened with the roar of engines as Round 7 went green. In the Andrews Products Bagger GP, Cody Gilmore (Suburban Motors Harley-Davidson) wasted no time reminding everyone why he’s one of the most dominant names in the sport. Gilmore checked out early, crossing the line nearly a full minute ahead of his rivals. Drew Jankord (Alloy Art) held strong for second, while Ruben Xaus (Feuling Parts) rounded out the podium.

The Pirelli Production-Stock Bagger class was all about raw speed, with Australia’s Jake Masters (Suburban Motors Harley-Davidson) showcasing his world-class talent. Masters pulled clear for the win, while Clay Braun (Frankie Dean Racing) and Arnie Wells fought to complete the podium. Tony Tucker (Tucker Speed) pushed hard to secure fourth.

Over in the Barnett Clutches & Cables Super-Street Bagger, all eyes were on Seth Dahmer (Tucker Speed) making his BRL debut. Dahmer didn’t disappoint, delivering a stunning ride that saw him take the checkered flag more than 30 seconds ahead of the pack. Sean Hoffman (Suburban Motors Harley-Davidson) finished runner-up, followed by Mike Coury (Rebel Racing) and Carl Schlacht (Hawg Halters Inc. / Speed Farm).

The DP Brakes Liquid Twins class was a battle of precision and power. Vincent Wilson (Alloy Art) took the win, with Arnie Wells (Frankie Dean Racing) close behind in second. Frank Sindermann and Charlie Condit fought hard to claim third and fourth.

And, in Air-Cooled Twins presented by Slyfox Performance, fans witnessed history as freestyle motocross legend Mike “the Godfather” Metzger made his BRL debut and took the win. Chase French (Speed Farm) brought home second, while Jake McGuire (Death Metal Racing / Speed Farm), recovering from a crash

earlier in the race, salvaged third. Douglas Darrah (Alpha Emergency Disposal) closed out the top four.

ROUND 8 – THE SEASON FINALE

Just hours after a couple crashes during Round 7, Jake McGuire’s Speed Farm crew and Nick Salmen SCS team worked around the clock to get their machines back on track for the all- important Round 8 finale. It was the kind of grit and determination that defines the BRL.

In the Andrews Products Bagger GP, it was once again the Cody Gilmore show as he repeated his dominant performance, sweeping the weekend with another victory. Jankord kept him honest, but had to settle for second.

In Barnett Clutches & Cables Super-Street Bagger, Brendan Foley (Suburban Motors Harley-Davidson) rose to the occasion, taking the win ahead of Anthony Norton. Despite the crash earlier in the day, McGuire showed true toughness with a third place finish.

LOOKING AHEAD

The Sin City Bagger Showdown was more than a race, it was a celebration of how far the BRL has come in just a few short years. With racers like Jake Masters and Cody Gilmore proving their dominance, and legends like Mike Metzger joining the mix, the 2025 season will be remembered as a turning point in bagger racing history.

The Bagger Racing League extends its thanks to title sponsors Drag Specialties and Memphis Shades, presenting partner Lifestyle Cycles, and all the supporting brands that made this season possible: Alpinestars, Andrews Products, Barnett Clutches & Cables, Bridgestone Moto USA, Burns Stainless, DP Brakes Racing, Dunlop Motorcycle Tires, FDR Foundation, Figurati Designs, Hogtunes Inc., Motion Pro, Newcastle Harley-Davidson, Pirelli Moto USA, Rox Speed FX, Suburban Motors Harley-Davidson, UltraCool, and Zipper’s Performance. Most importantly, BRL thanks the fans who came out in force, filling vendor row and lining the fences to support America’s newest motorcycle racing movement. ■

» With the dust now settled, all eyes turn to the future. The 2026 season promises bigger grids, new venues, and even more spectacular racing as the BRL continues to grow. Stay tuned for the official 2026 schedule at www.baggerracingleague.com.

KNOXVILLE, TENNESSEE – SEPTEMBER 16, 2025

DRAG DEALERS

Drag Specialties once again raised the bar and locked tight the reason why it’s the V-Twin industry leader. This year’s Exclusive Dealer Training Tour rolled into Knoxville, Tennessee in midSeptember with five vendors offering new products, targeted product sales training, and exclusive one-time earning deals.

A few raindrops at the start couldn’t dampen dealer attendance. Kicking off with a generous spread of food and refreshments, V-Twin dealers settled in for an evening of learning specifications and nuances to help them sell more product. The vendors for this stop were Arai, Dunlop, Öhlins, Saddlemen and SP Connect. Multiple big screens throughout the Twin Peaks Restaurant patio enhanced vendor presentations giving everyone ‘the best seat in the house.”

It’s surely an understatement to say that the Drag Specialties Exclusive Dealer Tour benefits all those involved. Twenty one dealers and their staff brought total attendance to over sixty guys and gals eager to gain product knowledge, sales merchandising tips and exclusive discounts.

With a packed patio, Drag Regional Sales Manager Adam Alberghine welcomed the substantial crowd and announced each vendor beginning with Scott Enlow, Dealer Development Representative from Arai Helmets. Enlow’s presentation provided engaging key insights into helmet design, development, safety features, and information on helmet rating systems.

“The FatBook and Drag Specialties keep bringing sales of Arai Helmets up and up each year, giving us the opportunity to connect with the V-Twin community and reach a clientele who might not think of Arai traditionally when it comes to selecting a helmet,” he said.

Story and photos by Alice Sexton
One of the highlights of any Drag Dealer Training Tour stop is the chance to check out the fleet of customs on the Drag events semi-truck. Each bike is a rolling showroom of parts from the same aftermarket vendors who are on the tour.

Next up was Dunlop tires for which National Sales Manager Scott Dewey gave a great product presentation to the assembled dealers. Later, Dewey shared why he finds the Drag Training Tour to be so valuable.

“Being [with] other premium brands is a key point, spending quality time with committed dealers, and of course access to the Drag Specialties team,” Dewey said. We’re also able to address, face-to-face, any challenges dealers may have, and share tips and tricks to help them sell. Dealership employees could easily clock out and go home, yet they make the effort to be here, and we appreciate that.”

East Tennessee Drag Rep Blake Melton was in attendance along with his dealer Dream Rides of Tennessee, which he touted as a great Drag dealer in the region. Specializing in affordable Harley-Davidson motorcycles for the working man, Dream Rides offers an expansive shop full of parts and accessories, plus the service and knowledge all of which accelerates them to the top.

“We’re in the people business, so bringing my people here helps train them to make us more profitable. They get to meet the vendor reps in person, see the products firsthand, and get info straight from the source,” said Dream Rides owner John Jessup. “I brought eight of my staff tonight and each of them will benefit from the tour. The product information alone is worth their time spent, and the sales incentives motivate them even more.”

With its new V-Twin suspension product lineup, Öhlins marked its first year on the Drag tour. Not new to the tour, however, was Öhlins product specialist Roberto Santiago, who had attended the tour with a previous employer. From any vantage point, the Drag Tour is a great benefit for dealers.

“Since not everyone can make it to the larger events, the DS Tour has always been a great way to get one-on-one with dealers and staff, share the benefits of our products, and help us all grow profits together,” Santiago said.

Vendors often go on rides and visit dealerships before or after the event so dealers actually get to test ride some of

No stranger to the Drag Dealer Training Tour, Öhlins' Roberto Santiago offered some great insider info about the company's performance V-Twin suspension products.

After the presentations, dealers had the opportunity to get a close-up look at products, speak with vendors and connect with other dealers. It was also a chance to check out the 2025 FatBook cover bike in person!

the products. Another big benefit to dealers attending the Tour is scoring significant discounts on products. Dealers are offered great deals on any product ordered from the presenting vendors during the following week.

As one of the dealers attending the tour stop, Brian McGuiness of Cycle One Repair Shop in Knoxville, agrees that the exclusive discounts are an important bonus for making the event. As an enthusiast destination shop, Cycle One checks all the boxes for its excellent service, parts, accessories, and laid back lounge-hangout feel.

“We at Cycle One think that meeting the reps in person all at once is a great advantage, he said. “Knowing an inside guy helps us [immensely] when we have questions or problems we can get to the right person. We’re happy to see Öhlins here because they’re usually only available through the Japanese market. King of the Baggers brings new products, and opens a whole new market for us.”

Returning to the tour was Saddlemen, which used the occasion to showcase its exclusive new line of high-performance

carbon-fiber V-Twin products. The company’s Pat Infante commended Drag Specialties for providing a format that allows direct, in-person engagement with dealers. Not only can they offer a detailed product education program, they can also give dealers a hands-on look at the product line.

Rounding out the presentations was Bobby Claessens, SP-Connect’s Harley-Davidson liaison/V-Twin specialist. Claessens noted that being part of the Drag Training Tour is a huge benefit for everyone involved.

“Every one of the people here have just finished a long day of work, all of the guys and girls here chose to be here over anything else they could be doing. They aren’t here for a free sandwich; they’re here for the knowledge and experience that each vendor brings,” Claessens said. “They’re here for no other reason than the betterment of their business. They’re here to learn, grow, to bring product into their shop, and gain the knowledge that will help sell those products.” ■

2025 NVP PRODUCT EXPO

Photos by Todd Olson unless otherwise noted

MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN / SEPT. 6-7

Returning for its second year at the Baird Center in Milwaukee, the 2025 NVP Product Expo is now in the books as the best attended Drag Specialties and Parts Unlimited NVP held in Wisconsin. That’s quite an achievement for an event that already serves as the epicenter of the powersports aftermarket universe, and as the official kickoff to the coming sales season.

Drag Specialties dealers, sales reps and vendors poured into Milwaukee in early September for two jam-packed days of product education and the invaluable opportunity to check out, in person, all the latest parts, accessories, gear and apparel heading to those heading to the FatBook and the OldBook.

The show also was the chance for dealers to meet face-toface with their sales reps and the new and existing Drag Specialties and Parts Unlimited vendors. As it’s always been with the NVP experience, the gathering was about more than business. For many in the LeMans Corporation universe, it’s the chance to meet up with lifelong industry friends and catch up over quiet dinners and boisterous celebrations.

“The Drag Specialties and Parts Unlimited NVP Product Expo continues to solidify its position as a premier gathering for industry professionals, innovation, and the exchange of expertise,” said Paul Devine, Vice President of Sales & Marketing.

The expo showcased a wide array of new products, with new brands including Fist Handwear, Red Line Oil, RM Stator, and Supersprox. The innovative brands and exclusive dealer incentives offered attendees valuable opportunities to connect with leading industry representatives.

Dealers also had chances to win product certificates, branded backpacks, commemorative T-shirts, and 2025–2026 Motorcycle Industry Council (MIC) memberships provided by Drag Specialties and Parts Unlimited. The highlight of the giveaways was an all-expense-paid trip for two people to the final MotoGP race in Valencia Spain.

On Saturday evening, the iconic Meet & Greet/Bike Show took over the Baird Ballroom and spilled into the Skyview Terrace, treating attendees to panoramic views of downtown Milwaukee. This year’s bike show introduced a new Vintage class, joining the traditional V-Twin and Metric categories.

Looking ahead, the next NVP Product Expo is scheduled for January 24–25, 2026, at the Kentucky International Convention Center in Louisville, Kentucky. Talk now with your Drag Specialties sales rep about how you can attend this unforgettable experience.

The NVP Product Expo offers the LeMans Corporation a chance to meet with the company’s entire sales force and a massive group of select vendors. That’s why the “company business” presentation that kicks off each show is a must for everyone gathered. Milwaukee started off with relevant and timely info from LeMans Chairman and CEO Paul Langley, as well as an informative talk from Paul Devine, Vice President of Sales & Marketing.

The company business meeting also included the announcement of the new LeMans Growth Academy, a new comprehensive national training and education platform for dealers and sales reps.

Kurt Kaufmann (left) and Preston Polizzi (right) are part of the platform’s team.

PRODUCT EDUCATION

Feuling Parts’ lineup of go-fast products is well known for offering Harley-Davidson riders a sizable boost in performance. The company’s Luke Leatherman showcased some of the line for Drag dealers at NVP.

Chase Weddle with Legend Suspensions details a range of the company’s suspension products as part of the NVP in-person dealer education offerings.
Khrome Werks National Sales Manager Travis Schmid highlights some of the company’s new exhaust products.

There’s a reason why the NVP Product Expo is such a hit. Where else can Drag Specialties dealers find such a massive gathering of the top aftermarket vendors in the powersports world all under one roof? NVP is the place to be.

From the moment the doors opened at the Baird Center, the Milwaukee NVP Product Expo was jammed with dealers looking for the latest and greatest. The turnout resulted in the best attended NVP held in Wisconsin!

SHOW TIME!

At last year’s Milwaukee NVP, the Bagger Racing League got interactive by taking on an untried and uncertain concept – building a Bagger race bike during the weekend right on the show floor. Was it crazy or inspired? BRL spearhead Rob Buydos figured you don’t know ‘til you try!

Buydos was very heartened by the reception the project received, as were the 30-plus Drag Specialties vendors that opted in. “Exit interviews revealed interest,” Buydos said. “People said things like, ‘That bike build was so cool!’”

Riding the momentum of the showfloor build, Buydos started to hear from even more brands that wanted to participate. As

“ We are extremely privileged that LeMans and Drag Specialties provided this opportunity to show what’s possible with the FatBook . ” Rob Buydos, Bagger Racing League

Led by the custom experts at Suburban Motors Harley-Davidson, the challenge commanded the attention of showgoers throughout the weekend, including Tony Tucker of Tucker Speed Shop in Ogden, Utah. Tucker came by several times to ask about components and check the progress. After the show, Junior Skolnick from Lifestyle Cycles in Anaheim, California bought that build and took it on the BRL circuit. Crazy plan? Maybe, but it worked!

a man of ideas, he determined that the next logical step, one that could allow for increased vendor participation, was to set up two live race bike builds on the show floor for NVP 2025! With that, the NVP/BRL Biker Build-Off was off and cooking.

As soon as Buydos pitched the idea, two teams stepped up. On one side you have the veteran Joe Houpt from Suburban Harley, a shop that’s not only been part of the BRL since the beginning but is also responsible for a fleet of custom Drag

Specialties Training Tour and Open House builds. On the other side is Tony Tucker, that curious guy who hung around the 2024 showfloor build. Tucker Speed has also campaigned a BRL team since the beginning. Planning for the 2025 NVP commenced right then and there.

“I think the effort serves a number of purposes. It generates excitement and offers something to check out during the event, while giving vendors opportunities to participate,” said Tom Motzko, Drag’s head of vendor relations. “And, the build teams potentially end up selling the bikes.”

The two teams agreed that a few components would appear on both bikes. The list included various Alloy Art components; Cometic gaskets; skid plates, belly pans, saddlebags and air scoops from Hoppe Industries; and an Ultra Cool oil cooler. Though it wasn’t the original plan, both also used Bassani pipes because Bassani has engineered the fitment for the necessary mid-controls. Houpt and Tucker split the FatBook on everything else to turn their Road Glides into race-ready Performance Baggers.

As soon as the 2025 NVP opened in Milwaukee’s Baird Center, each team started building immediately with each team’s components on display for passing dealers to take note. The teams wasted no time tackling two very stock motorcycles and installing, connecting and testing each part in turn. Much of the engine work had been done ahead of time.

Team Red, Suburban’s team of veterans, took the effort in stride – after all, they’ve done this before. They worked to disassemble the bike quickly and efficiently and at a steady pace. S&S Cycle and Andrews provided parts for the engine upgrades. Performance Machine stepped up with brake components, air filter, brake and clutch master cylinders and wheels. Progressive Suspension covered shocks, and Race Tech sent the fork kit.

All Balls Racing opted in, as did Arlen Ness, Motion Pro, PSR and Trask Performance. Bars came from Renthal, risers from RoxSpeed FX, controls from HHI. The fender and seat are by Slyfox. The team adapted to swap the planned Vance & Hines exhaust for the Bassani when fit became an issue., “Each build is different for different reasons, and it mostly depends on the vendors you're working with,” said Houpt.

The upstart challengers from Tucker Speed – Team Purple – were focused and intentional. Clearly prepared, they stayed on task throughout the build. continued on page 42...

Feuling provided engine upgrades, with other parts coming from All Balls Racing, Alloy Art, and Dynojet. BDL, Dark Horse and Rekluse provided the power delivery. Alloy Art, Arlen Ness and Legend Suspension components were used for the suspension setup, while braking was addressed by parts from GBrakes, HHI and Magnum Shielding. ODI and PSR provided controls, with input from Slyfox and Speed Merchant. Bassani’s 2-into-1 exhaust for mid controls was the natural choice. A Ness fender, Memphis Shades windshield, Saddlemen seat, and Slyfox side covers all went into place. Slyfox and Pirelli provided the wheels and tires, respectively.

By end of day Saturday, the transformed bikes stood naked, showcasing the workmanship, and by noon on Sunday, saddlebags, fenders, and tanks were in place. The paint work was done in advance and sponsor graphics were added

once the builds were buttoned up. With the Biker Build-Off wrapping up Sunday afternoon, voting started with attending dealers giving their choice for the winner.

After all ballots were counted, Tucker Speed/Team Purple emerged as the victor with its purpose built Performance Bagger!

“This process helped us make connections with many brands whose parts we sell at our shop,” Tucker said. “It's cool to meet people from all the different brands and have the conversations. It also shows how approachable the BRL can be. You can build a competitive bike right out of the FatBook.”

As for Buydos, he considered the effort an all-around success, and explained, “We are extremely privileged that LeMans and Drag Specialties provided this opportunity to show what’s possible with the FatBook.” ■

TRUE BLUE TRUE BLUE

As Drag Specialties’ other catalog, the OldBook includes a proprietary and weighty inventory of custom and replacement aftermarket parts and hardware for older – not old – Harley-Davidsons.

It is produced specifically for the Drag Specialties’ dealers who cater to enthusiasts who love customizing their aging V-Twins. Motorcycles that, only a short time ago, relied on aftermarket parts from Drag Specialties’ popular FatBook.

Today’s OldBook includes custom parts for Harleys powered by the once-ground-breaking Evolution engine, while still devoting catalog pages to earlier Knucklehead, Panhead, Shovelhead, Sportsters and other early V-Twin classics that Drag Specialties continues to support. Consequently, the OldBook has grown in size, and it’s now bigger than ever. Not a

bad problem to wrestle with because more parts mean more options for owners of early Harleys.

That brings us to the 2026-2027 OldBook cover-bike, a 1990 Harley-Davidson FXRS (Harley’s sport variant of the standard FXR model) that was rejuvenated by Deadwood Custom Cycles in historic Deadwood, South Dakota. DCC’s owner, Jason Mook, and his experienced crew performed most of the facelift at the popular custom-bike shop in downtown Deadwood. Jason himself has a small stable of FXR models, so he’s certainly familiar with that landmark ride.

“My collection included six FXRs when I bought this one,” he explains. That new addition FXRS was on the shop’s lift for a quick rebuild when Drag Specialties’ Tom Motzko paid the shop a visit. After learning about Jason’s latest FXR project,

FXRS FXRS OldBook

Motzko suggested it would be the perfect cover bike for the upcoming 2026-2027 OldBook. The two men drew up a parts manifest that accelerated Jason’s schedule to complete the project, the goal being its debut at the 2026 Louisville NVP Product Expo.

But first, a brief background on the FXR line, which has become a favored addition for many V-Twin collectors. Harley-Davidson launched the FXR in 1982 during its post-AMF revival, with the Evolution engine as the heart of a new lineup. Known for its stout chassis and rugged EVO powerplant, FXR models (including the FXRS) remain a collector favorite for its balance of classic style, durability and sporty performance. It’s that sporty ride that Jason and other FXR fans recognized long ago.

The 2026-2027

Cover Bike

So, let’s check in with DCC for a closer look at how Jason and the crew built this particular FXRS for its scheduled debut in Louisville. After the NVP, the bike will help spearhead Drag Specialties’ annual road tour, visiting Drag dealers and attending major American V-Twin rallies such as Daytona Bike Week and the Sturgis Rally.

As Jason does with all of his shop’s custom builds, he put a premium on the EVO engine. “I like to keep the FXR’s EVO engine in its purest form,” he says. “And I still love carburetors, too!” Thus, the *(EMIS Code 3) S&S Cycle Super E that Jason selected for the EVO engine.

He also points out that a bulk of the cover bike’s replacement engine parts originated with many of Drag Specialties’

well-known suppliers, with Andrews (5-Speed Gear Set 2.94:1 First Ratio), Feuling Parts (*(EMIS Code 3) Reaper 543 Series Camshaft), JIMS (5-Speed transmission Rebuild Kit), S&S Cycle (Billet Oil Pump), and THRASHIN Supply (Black Shift Linkage) among them.

“These and other popular parts help assure strong, reliable engine performance,” Jason notes, adding a range of Cometic gaskets were called in for sealing duty.

Next, the DCC crew turned its attention to the chassis and its unique chain-drive conversion. First things first, notice the blue-link RK Chain O-ring chain that’s fitted with a Colony Sprocket and Belt Pulley Mounting Kit. Also, a Drag Specialties 51-tooth flat rear O-ring sprocket helps complete this unique driveline conversion. No doubt, the O-ring chain links help maintain the bike’s sporty performance, while its light blue hue visually works well with the paint scheme.

Jason and his crew (consisting of three techs, two fabricators, a parts manager, a service manager and Jason) leaned heavily on the OldBook and its deep well of aftermarket parts from which to choose. In fact, check out that lengthy build sheet featured at the end of this story – it’s a big one.

“Drag has been offering parts for the FXR practically from the day the model came out in 1982,” Jason says. “There are so many great parts in the OldBook for this bike. And, that sizable inventory helps keep the bike pure so that it retains much of its original design.” Even so, over time, parts wear out, so Jason and crew turned to modern replacement parts, especially for the bike’s original electrics.

Items such as a NAMZ custom complete bike wiring harness and Drag Specialties’ black 1.4kw starter motor led the charge. Daytona Twin-Tech’s VOE switch and timing rotor also helped complete the circuit. And what Drag Specialties project would be complete unless it featured custom illumination enhancement from Custom Dynamics? Among the components are CD’s 5¾-inch LED Black Halo headlamp.

The engine and its array of fresh components tucked safely within its powder-coated cases meant that it was time to mount the engine into the classic black-powder-coated frame.

Once the Super E manifold and air filter cover found their assigned places, the project began to take shape.

Painter Eric Malotke of Open Throttle Customs delivered the painted body panels, giving the DCC crew more reason to finish the build sooner rather than later. For the build, Jason gave Eric two instructions. “I told Eric I wanted to base the colors on Drag Specialties’ classic blue,” he says, “and … to just go for it!” That’s exactly what Eric did, the result being an FXR with a unique and stunning paint job that underscores the sporty V-Twin’s custom components. For instance, the gnarly Trask Assault 2-into-1 brushed stainless exhaust system seems to growl while just sitting at rest.

Legend Suspensions’ classic AXEO 39TS + 2 inch suspension mixed with Pro One Performance 39mm Black Fork Tubes gave the FXR front end new life. The combination is dressed with Drag Specialties fork stem dust covers. Also up front, Saddlemen’s stylish S-RT Mini Fairing keeps the bike in style, underscoring the original FXR’s heritage. The bike’s lucky rider will enjoy Drag’s Predator III Double Diamond seat with blue thread stitching.

A look down from the cockpit reveals the Arlen Ness oil pressure gauge and some Ness MX footpegs.
Legend Suspension AXEO forks help improve handling and comfort. They're topped off with LA Choppers Kage Fighter T-Bars.

Additional and traditional styling is found with the Klock Werks Top Hat 19-inch Hugger front fender, which is always a solid choice for these projects, and ditto for the RWD V-Twin 7-inch steel rear fender.

Of course, what’s a custom bike build without some Arlen Ness additions? And this bike happens to have its fair share, starting with Ness hand and foot controls and the Ness MX Blue driver and passenger foot pegs. “They [Arlen Ness Customs] keep coming out with these amazing parts and finishes,” Jason notes. And so, Ness Mini Stocker blue forged mirrors and knurled blue grips are found atop the LA Choppers Black Kage Fighter T-Bars that use the Alloy Art Gooden Tight custom riser bushing kit for a strong mounting assembly. There’s also a Dakota Digital 3015 electronic speedo and tach kit.

And let’s not overlook the Arlen Ness Method blue 39mm fork brace. Eric painted the Speed Merchant’s brushed aluminum skid plate to match. The combination helps blend these custom components with the rest of the bike. Other styling bits include the Figurati Designs black smooth swingarm pivot covers. A sporty bike like the FXR needs good brakes, so up front and in the rear, stopping is assisted by GBrakes Wave rotors. Jason fitted the 9-spoke cast 19inch front and 16-inch rear wheels with Michelin’s Commander III tires.

Check out the following build sheet to see all of the parts and accessories used on Deadwood’s custom FXRS. Even better, viewing this FXRS up front and in person reveals what’s possible when restoring a classic American V-Twin.

The journey begins with the deep parts bin known as the OldBook. Add some creativity with those parts, or place them in the hands of a qualified builder such as Deadwood Custom Cycles, and you’ll realize that there is a difference between owning an older classic or just another old bike.

Competitive Advantage Carbon Fiber Components for V-Twins

TYour Harley-Davidson customers can benefit from Saddlemen’s Bagger racing efforts with the company’s new line of Carbon Fiber front and rear fenders, dash consoles, side covers and other components.

he “Win on Sunday, sell on Monday” line is one we’re used to hearing, but not when it comes to Harley-Davidsons. Not until now, anyway. Thanks to the popularity of Bagger racing and the continued growth of the Performance V-Twin scene, parts that find success on the track are making their way onto customer bikes. Saddlemen’s new Carbon Fiber line is an easy way to give a Harley an immediate performance and style upgrade.

The rear fenders, dash consoles, side covers and other components available in this new collection are all constructed from 100 percent premium Carbon Fiber, and because each part uses the same weave pattern, the products offer a uniform look for the bike. In addition to the improved looks, the parts are both lighter and

stronger than stock, making them true performance mods.

A lot of Harley models can easily accommodate the new Carbon Fiber line. All Touring models dating back to 2008, early Dyna/FXD models, most M8 Softails, FXRs and Sportsters can all get an instant boost in the style and performance department.

Saddlemen designed this new line of parts to be direct replacement. Not only is installation easy, but the parts typically use the existing hardware. And, when hardware is needed, it’s included in the package. Every Carbon Fiber piece is handmade in the USA and comes with protection from Saddlemen’s 1-year, nohassle warranty.

Saddlemen was among the earliest teams to sign up for the King of the Baggers racing series. Some of the race components the team wanted, though, simply didn’t exist for a Bagger. So, naturally, Team Saddlemen got to work coming up with their own. Among those were the Carbon Fiber parts, which can now be found on many of the entries in the racing series.

“With increased manufacturing capabilities at Saddlemen’s Race Development Facility in Long Beach, California, Saddlemen’s Performance Carbon Fiber line launched at the 2025 NVP and was met with great enthusiasm by dealers and reps alike,” says Saddlemen’s Tom Monroe.

Meeting the needs of racers and Performance V-Twin riders alike is nothing new to the team at Saddlemen. They started laying the groundwork with the Step-Up seat, which was designed for extreme riding situations. Moving on to other performance parts was a natural progression.

“The growing interest in Harley-Davidson racing and stunting has led to more riders asking for more performance products for their street motorcycles, and Saddlemen ramped up to respond to this new demand,” explains Monroe. ■

Colorful Comfort Customizing a Touring Seat

Picking out a Touring seat just got a lot more fun. Saddlemen has introduced new colored stitching options for its RoadSofa seats, which are designed for ultimate comfort on HarleyDavidson Touring models.

In addition to the stitch colors, customers can also choose from a range of stitch patterns and cover materials, making the RoadSofa a great option for customizing the look of a bike while also increasing the comfort factor.

RoadSofa options like the Tri-Gripper, Carbon Fiber or Lattice Stitch can now be ordered in a variety of stitch colors. And, if the desired color isn’t available, chances are it can be ordered through the Custom Seat Program that Saddlemen offers through Drag Specialties.

“Red, blue, silver and orange are popular colors which easily integrate the new seat with stock Harley-Davidson paint schemes, but Saddlemen offers a total of 16 colors

in the Custom Seat Program, which allow each customer more options to blend into their bike’s unique style,” notes Saddlemen’s Tom Monroe.

In addition to the colored stitching, stitch style and cover materials, riders have even more options. The RoadSofa is available with or without a removable, adjustable rider backrest. Plus, there are two size options for the RoadSofa, including the Standard Reach RoadSofa for riders under 6-feet tall and the Extended Reach RoadSofa for riders over that height.

For riders who opt for the Custom Seat Program, ordering is easy for dealer and customer alike. Simply choose the form for the seat style being customized, fill it out according to the customer’s wishes and submit it to Drag Specialties, just like any other order.

“Saddlemen staff are available via phone, email or website chat to discuss options for personalizing a customer’s new seat,” adds Monroe. “Additionally, Saddlemen’s network of Seat Center dealers are the direct pipeline into Drag Specialties’ custom ordering system, ensuring quick service right in the customer’s hometown.”

The RoadSofa is a popular choice among Touring riders. Monroe reports that when he’s traveling to rallies or shows, he spies plenty of bikes outfitted with that seat. It’s no wonder the RoadSofa is a perennial favorite. The seat offers premium comfort for both the driver and passenger, including tall lumbar support and a wide seating area for the driver, plus a streamlined nose that makes it easy to reach the ground.

And, of course, the RoadSofa features Saddlemen’s proprietary Gelcore Technology for both the rider and passenger. Gelcore Technology is engineered to dampen, divert and deflect energy from the road, and it’s made in-house at Saddlemen.

Additionally, the RoadSofa is designed with a split-cushion lumbar area for even more comfort, and it’s molded from a softer-density foam that provides yet another layer of premium comfort. ■

Sentimental Journey Tires

for Count’s Kustoms Tribute Bikes

For a lot of riders, a motorcycle is more than just a way to get from one place to another. There’s something special about a motorcycle, and for some riders, that means having a bike that pays tribute to someone or represents a significant aspect of their life.

That’s the case with one of the recent builds from Count’s Kustoms in Las Vegas, Nevada. And, like any bike with a deeply personal meaning, it’s important to have the perfect mix of details, right down to the tire choice. For this Bagger, a set of Avon Cobra Chrome tires provides the right mix of aesthetics and performance.

We caught up with Shannon Aikau, Head Fabricator for Count’s Kustoms, to get some details about this gorgeous custom Bagger. The bike had belonged to the customer’s late twin brother, and getting it customized was a way to pay tribute to him and keep his memory alive.

“I rebuilt the motor, had the lower end done, bigger bore cams. We went front to back, top to bottom on it,” says Aikau. “There were extensive bodywork mods, seats and a lot of custom touches.”

Aikau says he chose the Cobra Chrome tires for two reasons. “For one, the looks. They look really good on the bike. Number two, the rideability. It’s a Sport Cruiser with that horsepower.” The design and compounds of the tires mean, as Aikau puts it, “They’ll hook up and go.”

Avon’s Cobra Chrome tires are designed to handle the weight and horsepower of big V-Twins. They’re responsive on the road, and also excel in wet conditions.

The ability to handle both the weight and horsepower of a big V-Twin is only one aspect of the performance features found on a Cobra Chrome tire. When the weather turns rainy, they still provide confidence thanks to efficient water evacuation.

Aikau has Cobra Chrome tires on his own bike, a 2015 Count’s Kustoms rigid chopper, and he had a brand-new set mounted shortly before riding to L.A. just in time for storms that rolled in.

“I put the tires on right before going back to L.A. and it was a rain-fest, but I hadn’t had a chance to break in the tires,” Aikau recalls. “So, I rode it anyway, and I didn’t have any slip-and-slide issues.”

Avon Tyres and Count’s Kustoms have had a partnership since 2023. For Aikau, it was a perfect fit; his father was also a bike builder, and he had preferred Avon Speedmasters for his builds. Aikau inherited that appreciation for Avon tires, too.

These days, the Avon Speedmaster and MkII tires can be found on vintage bikes getting the full treatment at Count’s Kustoms. Currently, Aikau has a 1969 CB750 in the shop. Like the Bagger, it’s a tribute build. The bike belonged to the customer’s late husband. Thanks to the vintage style of the Speedmaster and MkII tires, picking a period-appropriate tire for the bike won’t be a problem. ■

When building this custom tribute Bagger, Shannon Aiku of Count’s Kustoms opted for Avon’s Cobra Chrome tires. Not only do they look great, they perform even better.

TO STAND OUT

With their snakeskin-effect tread, Avon Cobra Chrome tyres certainly stand out. And with a 5% larger tyre footprint you can expect better traction and shorter stopping distances, even in the wet. Available in a wide range of sizes including WhiteWalls, Avon Cobra Chrome can help you make your mark.

RSmart Upgrade A Modern Turn Signal Module

eading about a product only does so much. Getting to see, touch and even try one is the best way to get an idea of a product’s quality and functionality. And, right now, dealers can get their hands on a Custom Dynamics SMART TSM (Turn Signal Module). Just ask your Drag rep to show off their sample.

Custom Dynamics offers its SMART TSM in four plug-and-play fitments. Designed for 2000-2013 Harley-Davidson models fitted with the factory TSM, TSSM or HFSM, this module does everything the OEM version does, but it takes things up a notch in terms of capability and reliability.

The OEM TSM is an older design that uses electrolytic capacitors. At some point, those are going to fail. The SMART TSM from Custom Dynamics, on the other hand, uses modern electronics to ensure an elevated level of reliability and performance. Plus, it includes a 3-year warranty.

“When dealers get their hands on the sample, they’ll immediately notice the SMART TSM’s superior build quality,” says Custom Dynamics Chief Sales Officer Rob Bluma. “The housing with built-in connectors is designed to ensure a perfect fit. Even first-timers find the installation process straightforward thanks to the comprehensive instructions. It’s clear this is a premium, user-friendly solution right out of the box.”

The team at Custom Dynamics engineered the SMART TSM specifically for Harley models, and its seamless integration with a bike’s electrical system means the turn signals and safety functions of the bike will run smoothly and reliably.

In addition, the module allows the turn signal circuits to be compatible with LED or incandescent bulbs, eliminating the need for a load equalizer or signal stabilizer when upgrading to a set of Custom Dynamics turn signals.

There are both manual and self-canceling turn signal cancelation functions, based on timing and the bank angle of the motorcycle. Plus, if the SMART TSM detects that the bike’s tilt angle has exceeded 45 degrees for one second or more, it will initiate automatic shut-off.

Another benefit of the SMART TSM is that it is an option for customers who want to eliminate the need for a security key fob.

In fact, customers are the reason this product came about in the first place.

“Our SMART TSM highlights how truly in tune Custom Dynamics is with the needs of real riders,” Bluma says. “For years, owners of early-model bikes faced serious frustration, unable to ride because there simply wasn’t an OEM solution available. We listened and delivered—proving just how vast our in-house design and engineering capabilities really are. Creating a sophisticated, reliable module like the TSM for such a challenging application is a clear example of Custom Dynamics’ commitment to customer safety and satisfaction, no matter how complex the need.” ■

Custom Dynamics’ new SMART TSM is a massive plug-and-play upgrade over the OE part. Once it’s plugged in under the seat, the TSM offers improved reliability, and also features manual and self-canceling turn signal functions as well as eliminating the need for a security key fob.

Vulnerable No More Serious Protection for Vital Parts

If your customers knew their Harley-Davidsons had a major vulnerability, they’d want to do something about it, right? Well, out of sight is out of mind, and while the 2024 and newer Road Glides and Street Glides have a definite weak spot at the bottom of the engine, riders don’t often think about it.

Thankfully THRASHIN’ Supply is aware of the issue, and has developed the new Carbon Fiber Skid Plate to stave off disaster and add a dose of style to your customers’ bikes.

What’s the issue? If you take a knee next to the latest generation of liquid-cooled Glides and look behind the bottom of the radiator, you’ll see that the underside of the engine is as vulnerable as a frog’s belly. The plastic water-pump housing, plastic hose spigots, rubber coolant hoses, and various delicate electrical connectors are fully exposed, just inches from the pavement and all the debris that gets kicked up off the road.

Damage to any one of those components can end a ride, and has, according to THRASHIN’s Design Engineer, Juan Arceo. “We noticed how exposed those parts were as soon as we got our ’24 in,” Arceo says. “And then when a customer emailed to say that their water pump got damaged hundreds of miles from home, ruining their road trip, we knew we had to do something about it.”

The result is a component that’s as beautiful as it is effective. There’s an 11½-inch x 11½-inch plate of real

carbon fiber shielding the underside of the engine, and it’s available in a high-gloss full-weave or matte forged option. The full-weave has a classic high-end composite look, with a patchwork of strands buried within the resin. Forged carbon is a more modern option, and the random orientation of the chopped carbon flakes gives it an industrial look. Both approaches provide the same protection to vital components, and feature stylized cutouts for venting and drainage plus the iconic TSC thunderbolt logo.

Even though this crucial part isn’t the most obvious upgrade, the anodized, billet-aluminum brackets help signal that something special is going on under the engine. THRASHIN’ is known for exquisite machining, and these simple brackets have an elevated appearance thanks to beveled edges, an engraved TSC thunderbolt logo and bright anodizing. Your customers can match their bike’s other mods by getting the brackets in Black, Red or Gold.

Whether your customers DIY at home or let your techs handle the upgrade, this new skid plate installs in minutes with the provided stainless steel hardware, which includes button-head bolts for the billet skid-plate. The brackets mount to the frame using existing OEM fasteners. ■

EKeeping Vintage Bikes Rolling Tire Options for Classic Models

ven someone who rides one of the latest V-Twin models probably has a soft spot for vintage bikes. Those older machines are iconic, and to keep them rolling, Metzeler has four tire options that feature classic styling paired with modern technologies. There’s even an option for sidecars.

When we talk about Metzeler tires, the focus is usually on styles for the latest models, like the Cruisetec and ME888 tires, which are both modern designs. When it comes to a classic tire design for vintage models, though, Metzeler has riders covered with the BLOCK K, BLOCK C, PERFECT ME 11 and ROADTEC 01. These four options include custom sizes and the styling that vintage and sidecar enthusiasts want, all with the quality and reliability one expects from Metzeler.

“Vintage motorcycles continue to have a strong, passionate following, and it’s important that we provide those riders with the same confidence and reliability found in modern bikes,” said Brian Davenport, Metzeler Senior Sales Manager. “Our classic-style tires – like the BLOCK K, BLOCK C, PERFECT ME 11 and ROADTEC 01 – not only offer authentic looks, but also deliver Metzeler’s proven performance. This makes it easy for dealers to support customers restoring or riding older models, as well as sidecars.”

For sidecar motorcycle enthusiasts, the Metzeler BLOCK K is a go-to choice. The traditional tread pattern looks right at home on a sidecar, and its groove design ensures outstanding water drainage. With the BLOCK K, riders can expect consistent performance as well as high-mileage characteristics. The tire offers reliability as well as that retro look.

The Metzeler BLOCK K offers reliability as well as a retro look, and its groove design ensures outstanding water drainage. It’s a popular choice for motorcycle sidecar enthusiasts.

The

ME 11 Touring tire is a favorite choice for smallto-medium displacement vintage bikes. It delivers the high mileage, water drainage and reliable grip.

Vintage motorcycles in the medium- and small-displacement categories benefit from the Metzeler BLOCK C tire. The classic tread aesthetics are paired with modern compound technology to offer the best of both worlds. The unique groove geometry provides excellent water evacuation and grip on wet surfaces, adding a boost of confidence even in rainy weather. Meanwhile, the longitudinal and side grooves provide stability and precision, which is especially beneficial while at lean.

Like the BLOCK C, the PERFECT ME 11 tire is a favorite choice for vintage bikes with displacements in the smallto-medium size range. This classic Touring tire delivers the high mileage, water drainage and reliable grip that one would expect from a Touring tire, and it’s all achieved with a classic aesthetic.

While Sport-Touring tires tend to feature fitments for modern bikes, the Metzeler ROADTEC 01 X-ply offers that styling for vintage models. Advanced compound mixing means even older bikes can enjoy superior grip and mileage. The tread layout is designed for capable performance on all kinds of asphalt, including low-friction roads and riding in the wet. The ROADTEC 01 X-ply tire is highly versatile, making it suitable for a range of motorcycles, riding styles and conditions. ■

Field of View

Mirrors Designed for Maximum Function

Comfort is a key product trait that almost every customer can agree on. Despite their style or the model they ride, it’s not often you come across a rider that isn’t interested in upping comfort a notch, and that doesn’t just mean a cushy seat. Thankfully for those customers, Ciro designed its entire Chicane™ line around this idea, thoughtfully blending both style and function.

Among the floorboards, footrests and grips are this collection’s latest addition, Chicane Convex mirrors. Function and performance were prioritized with the design of Chicane Convex mirrors to provide riders with a wider field of view.

“OEM rearview mirrors are typically a one-size-fits-all solution; they usually function adequately but often look bland,” says Darron May, Design Engineer at Ciro. “When developing the Chicane mirrors, our primary goal was to create a visually appealing mirror, which I believe we accomplished. What sets the Chicane mirror apart from other custom mirrors is that we did not compromise its functionality. The dual-curved glass provides the rider with a wide view without requiring a large glass area.”

Each mirror features dual radius convex glass, minimizing blind spots and giving riders a more accurate view of what’s behind them. Cruising down the highway and glancing down at the mirrors to find clear and complete vision is a boost of confidence for riders, translating to enhanced comfort and confidence which means a more enjoyable ride.

Your customers can give their bikes a style and function upgrade with Ciro’s Chicane Convex mirrors. They come in a chrome or black finish.

Each Chicane Convex mirror, features dual radius convex glass, minimizing blind spots and giving riders a more accurate view of what’s behind them. They’re easy to install and completely adjustable.

The convex glass is housed by an aluminum body and stem to ensure durability, plus, the integrated ball pivot makes stable adjustments quick and easy. Installation is just as simple, too, with a bolt on design that requires no modifications. Your customers can choose between a black or chrome finish and can rest easy knowing their new mirrors are covered by Ciro’s three-year warranty.

Mirrors are just the latest addition to the Chicane line. The remaining lot of Chicane accessories are engineered to work together for next-level rider comfort and performance. Riders can assemble a Chicaneenhanced foot control setup with driver floorboards, passenger floorboard inserts, footrests, a brake lever pad and shift peg, all delivering a bold yet clean look with durable comfort. ■

Steel and Speed A High-Performance Exhaust System

Look good, sound good, go fast. That’s the approach the team at Bassani Xhaust takes to all of its high-performance exhausts, and the new *(EMIS Code 3) High Horsepower Stainless 2:1 system for Harley-Davidson M8 Baggers is no exception.

This new full exhaust is completely constructed from stainless steel, and all the TIG welding is done by hand for the premium look that riders have come to expect from Bassani. After the success of the similar system in chrome and black, M8 riders began to ask for a stainless

The High Horsepower Stainless 2:1 system for M8 Baggers is designed for bikes putting out 140hp and above. The design of the system is made for getting the most out of the engine, fitting right in with the Performance Bagger mindset.

The original version of this system was developed with Chris Rivas of Rocket Cams. Rivas tested the system to ensure it would meet the needs of high-horsepower builds. And what better way to test the exhaust system than by putting it on a full performance build? Rivas built a bike

steel version, and the company delivered. The partial heat shields only cover the headers, allowing this gorgeous system to be on full display.

Riders expect more than just good looks from a Bassani exhaust, though. The iconic Bassani sound and a boost in performance are part of the package, too, and this new system is an example of just how Bassani delivers on those aspects.

“One of the advantages of this system is that it steps up quickly out of the exhaust port from 17/8 inches to 2 inches to 21/8 inches,” explains Gary Naito, Marketing and Sales Manager, Bassani. “The big horsepower builds that riders are doing require an exhaust like this that steps up quickly to achieve maximum power gains.”

that topped out at an impressive 170hp on the Dyno. Add the 164ft./lb. of torque, and it was clear that this Bassani 2:1 system is a power-booster for M8 Baggers.

The new stainless version of the exhaust system benefits from that meticulous development, so riders can expect more of the same performance. Each system includes 18mm O2 ports with adapters and plugs, plus a matching billet end cap and a removable baffle. ■

Form Meets Function

Flare Hand Guards Deliver Style and Comfort

Stand-out style, simple installation, rider-focused functionality and broad fitment; these are the characteristics of an impulse purchase product that should be displayed at your counter or on your site. These traits also happen to describe Klock Werks’ latest addition to its lineup, Flare® hand guards for Harley-Davidsons.

mile road trip all the way to Newfoundland through pouring rain and high winds and they performed flawlessly,” he said. “Not only did they deflect the rain right over my hands, but they took the abuse of me slamming my helmet on top of them at every rest stop because that’s where I leave my helmet. Definitely five stars for me.”

Unveiled at this year’s Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, Flare hand guards have quickly found their place as a natural complement to the iconic Flare windshield, or a welcome addition to almost any Harley on the road. Flare windshields push turbulent air, bugs and rain up and over riders, while the Flare hand guards follow suit by widening the pocket of air keeping it away from riders’ hands and ramping up comfort on every ride.

What’s more impressive is the span of color and tint options. From a massive range of Klock Werks ‘Kolors’ to various shades of tint and striking ‘Ice’ finishes, your customers will find an option that fits their bike’s custom style.

After Flare hand guards spent time on Roge “Row-G” Muller’s (@rogieblackflys) bike. “I took them on an 11,000

Klock Werks leverages highquality materials and U.S. manufacturing to achieve its durability and eye-catching look. Klassic tint options are constructed from highly durable polycarbonate, while Ice and Kolor options are made from premium acrylic, and are designed to deliver the pop of color that riders are looking for.

Flare hand guards present a big add-on sales opportunity any dealer should take advantage of, especially before the holiday gifting season. The initial early success is a testament to Klock Werks’ focus on listening to fellow riders’ requests.

“We focus on stepping into markets we have been driven to by request from our customers, but not without plenty of research and diligence to design [great] air management solutions,” said Brian Klock. “The consumers that first adopted the Flare hand guards were amazed at how they work in conjunction with the original Flare windshield designs. That makes me smile as we work hard to provide [great] form and function. This one has been like starting fresh with Flare® Windshields back in 2007 and it’s fun!”

Checking all the boxes from style to function is important for Harley accessories. Whether riders are dialing in their bike themselves, or loved ones are looking for a gift that stands out, Flare hand guards are an easy choice, with fitment availability for most Harleys from 1982 to 2025. ■

TPower Trio

Introducing Three New Purpose-Built

rask Performance expands its lineup with three purpose-built exhaust options, each engineered and hand-welded in the USA. These systems are built for riders who expect fit, durability and measurable gains. Every pipe is stainless steel, TIG welded and purged with machined flanges, for consistent flow and long-term reliability.

Exhausts

deliver improved horsepower and torque while maintaining a solid, aggressive note. Built from corrosion and heat resistant materials, the Up Yours is made to last.

It fits Harley-Davidson models from 2000 through 2025 and is proudly made in the USA. Note that this system will not fit with OEM air cleaner setups, so when installed they will need an upgraded intake system.

Each product featured here – the BMF, the Up Yours and the Down Under – are emissions code 3 and categorized as “Race Only.” Parts designated as “Race Only” are for use only on vehicles used for competition racing and are not for use on vehicles registered for use on public roads. Sale and/ or installation of “Race Only” parts in any way inconsistent with this warning is prohibited and may result in enforcement by the U.S. EPA under the federal Clean Air Act.

The *(EMIS Code 3) BMF 2-into-1 is built for competitors who demand horsepower, torque, and a commanding sound. Its 2-into-1 layout optimizes scavenging for stronger midrange and top-end response. The BMF produces a deep, throaty rumble that announces your presence without sounding thin.

Systems are available in chrome or black finishes, and bolt up to Harley-Davidson models from 2000 through 2025. Each unit is constructed from premium heat-resistant materials to hold up under aggressive use. An adjustable muffler tip allows for fine tuning tone and appearance.

Next is the *(EMIS Code 3) Up Yours, is designed to provide an aggressive tone paired with efficient flow. Precisionengineered tubing and optimized exhaust geometry

Last, but not least, the *(EMIS Code 3) Down Under head pipe focuses on flow, seal and longterm durability. Mandrel bends and TIG welds keep exhaust gasses moving smoothly. Precision-machined port flanges offer a tighter seal at the heads than stamped factory parts, reducing leaks and improving performance consistency.

Constructed from stainless steel and designed to dissipate heat better than stock, the Down Under is available with the catalytic converter removed for increased flow and power. It is compatible with OEM heat shields and fits 2017 and newer Harley-Davidson FL Touring models.

Each of these Trask systems shares the same DNA –rugged construction, attention to fit and engineered performance. Whether competition-focused customers want a deep, authoritative tone, a no-nonsense high-flow solution, or a head pipe that unlocks real gains, Trask delivers parts that are built to be ridden hard and last. ■

Service Specifics Products

to Ensure a Job Well Done

Servicing a bike requires the right products for each specific task. LIQUI MOLY takes the guesswork out of knowing what to use with its range of products that ensure every part of a service job is performed properly.

All of the company’s products are made specially for the application at hand, says Steffen Niemietz, Application Engineer, LIQUI MOLY. “Each of them has been formulated to master a specific application in the best possible way,” he explains. “That’s why the formulation is so important –it’s the only way to ensure a top result.”

LIQUI MOLY’s Battery Clamp Grease has been specially formulated to protect the battery terminals and electrical contacts from corrosion and oxidation. In addition to extending battery life, this grease also prevents acid damage, current leakage and contact resistance. Batteries can get a maximum life cycle with the help of this one small product.

A bike’s electronics and electrical systems stay clean and protected with LIQUI MOLY Electronic Spray. This spray helps reduce corrosion by preventing its buildup in the first place and by removing previous buildup. The spray also suppresses moisture, so electronics continue to function flawlessly.

While specific products for specific jobs are a must, it’s also good to have grease on hand for general lubrication. LIQUI MOLY takes things up a notch with its Long-Life Grease +

MoS2. This high-performance grease has MoS2 added to it, which provides outstanding protection for components under extreme loads and high heat. It also means the grease increases the dry-run capability of the components. For high-load bearings, such as wheel bearings, LM 50 Litho HT high-performance grease provides the wear protection and high-pressure capacity required.

And, finally, LIQUI MOLY’s LM 48 Installation Paste is ideal for the assembly of engines, gearboxes and other mechanical rebuilds. The paste prevents dry-run damage at start-up, making it an easy way to protect components like engine bearings and piston skirts.

All of these LIQUI MOLY service products are great for a dealer to have on hand in the service department, but riders also appreciate having this variety of options for their own at-home service.

“With LIQUI MOLY in stock, dealers can offer the full range of motorcycle products—from the motor oil to the electronic spray,” says Niemietz. “The rider gets everything he needs to maintain his bike in one place, and always in top quality. We believe that this full-service package creates loyal customers.” ■

Ride Connected Seamless Engine Tuning and More

Digital interfaces are a crucial part of life these days. With that in mind, Vance & Hines developed the *(EMIS Code 3) FPX Tuner, a new product that integrates all the top digital features your customers want into one compact package.

“FPX is more than a tuner, it’s the future of connected riding. We have taken features like data acquisition used in our racing efforts and made them available to the everyday rider,” says Robert Martinez, Sales Manager at Vance & Hines. “With seamless tuning, real-time engine data, smart navigation, and built-in safety features like theft deterrent and crash detection, the FPX can really enhance your customers’ riding experience.”

First and foremost, the new FPX carries over the enginetuning functionality of the hugely popular FP4 Tuner. That means plug-and-play installation and app-based tuning so your customers can flash their Harley-Davidson directly from their phone for better power and throttle response in a matter of minutes.

Tuning is just the beginning, though. The FPX fully integrates with the bike, providing your customers with the digital features they want like turn-by-turn navigation, realtime ride data, service tracking, theft deterrent, challenge badges, and even crash detection, all from the same app.

“Obviously navigation is a top priority, and the nav screen can be customized to show ride data like speed, rpm, distance traveled, battery voltage, and more,” explains Martinez. “On a bike like the new Low Rider S that doesn’t have a tach, you can put rpm right there on your nav screen.”

The FPX also logs all the data from a ride, just like an exercise app. “FPX awards digital badges for things like ride distance and ride frequency, which gamifies riding and helps foster friendly competition with their friends,” Martinez relates. Riders love bragging rights, and the FPX badge system lets your customers share their rides directly to social media or via text.

The FPX also combines logged GPS data and live sensor data, then overlays them for riders to better understand where their techniques could benefit from improvement, leading to better performance of not only the motorcycle, but the rider as well.

FPX also has a fully customizable service tracker, so it’ll send notifications to the user’s phone when it’s time for an oil change or other maintenance. “Your customer’s tires may last 8,000 miles,” says Martinez, “but you can set

With Vance & Hines’ new FPX, your customers can not only add a plug-and-play tuner to their Harley-Davidson, but also add a device that unlocks a wide range of digital features. a reminder at 7,000 miles.” FPX’s service tracker is convenient and helpful for riders and could mean more work for your shop’s service department.

Other useful features include the ability to disable the fuel pump, helping deter theft when the bike is parked. Another crucial safety function is crash detection. FPX detects impact and can alert emergency contacts with your location. ■

Still going strong after 50 years in business, Suburban Motors Harley-Davidson is a full-service dealership and long-standing partner of Drag Specialties.

Family-Owned & Hitting 50

Wayne and Joan Houpt started Suburban Motors as a multi-line car dealership in 1968 before becoming solely a Harley-Davidson dealership in 1975. Today, Suburban Motors Harley-Davidson is Thiensville, Wisconsin’s largest volume dealer, carries a huge selection of Drag Specialties parts and accessories, runs the Suburban Speed Shop that completes hopped-up engine builds and fully custom bikes, and operates race teams competing in both the Bagger Racing League and Grand National Hooligan Championship series.

Family owned and operated from the get-go, the business started as Suburban Motors of Grafton selling AMC, Jeep, Saab and Chrysler-Plymouth out of a pole barn in Grafton,

SUBURBAN MOTORS HARLEY-DAVIDSON : THIENSVILLE, WISCONSIN

Wisconsin. In 1985 – 10 years after becoming a Harley-Davidson retailer – the Houpts moved their dealership to nearby Thiensville, which is about 20 miles north of Harley HQ in Milwaukee. At the new location, the dealership shared space with a Chrysler dealership. Later, the Houpts purchased the entire building and expanded to what now continues to be the home of Suburban Motors Harley-Davidson.

THE FAMILY BUSINESS

Through humble beginnings, and together by each other’s side for over 50 years, the husband-and-wife team of Wayne and Joan succeeded with hard work and dedication to customer service.

Wayne and Joan Houpt on a dealership trip.

“We’ve always given customers a good deal and treat them well,” Joe Houpt, Wayne and Joan’s son, tells Drag Specialties Magazine. “My dad was always looking at how to keep and retain customers. So, our business philosophy really is all about keeping the customer happy by giving good deals and treating people right. The motorcycle business isn’t a real hard thing. It’s a pretty simple business once you figure out what works.”

“To Wayne, it was never about getting into business to make major amounts of money,” says Suburban Motors HarleyDavidson General Manager Todd Berlin. “Sure, he enjoyed that part of it and had a very diversified portfolio, but it was never about one big sale. Instead, it was ‘Let’s build volume at a smaller margin and do really well,” and that’s what ended up giving our customers good value and a really good experience. That’s what he truly was about. A lot of guys talk the talk, but he walked that walk. That’s also why he retained employees for so long; he truly cared about people.”

Wayne passed away in 2021, yet Joan continues as sole proprietor of the dealership. Their other son Scott Houpt also worked at the dealership, but he passed away in 2018.

“I know what’s going on, but I just let Todd and Joe handle it all,” Joan says with a charismatic chuckle.

What has the motorcycle industry brought Joan during her 50 years as a retailer?

“It’s given me lots of friends, lots of memories, good times and bad times, and our family a good life,” she says. “It’s a family business, so my family has grown up with it. Now we’ve got the grandkids and the great-grandkids, and if Wayne were here, I think he’d say that we never thought this far ahead. We just took our chances, took what life gave us, and went along with it.”

In talking with family-owned retailers, often times their kids will have started working there at a young age by sweeping or breaking down boxes, etc. How does the family dynamic work at Suburban Motors Harley-Davidson?

“I started working at the dealership when I was a kid,” Joe says. “I was 14, and as soon as I got out of school I ran to work. So, all I have ever done is work at the shop.”

Todd joined the team 20 years ago. “Joe came and found me,” he explains. “My background was in the automotive industry, that’s how I knew Wayne, but was eventually brought in to be a part of Joe and his [late] brother Scott’s management team.”

“So, it’s Joe and I now working with our team of around 40 employees, which includes Joe’s son Aaron in marketing and Scott’s son Jordan in service,” Todd says.

THE LAYOUT

Suburban Motors Harley-Davidson’s main dealership building is a 30,000 square foot structure at 139 N. Main St. in Thiensville. “But we have multiple buildings surrounding us that we never include in discussing the dealership, like a second service center across the street and numerous warehouses,” Joe notes.

The first thing you see when you walk into the dealership is an alley of motorcycles surrounded by apparel. To the right is the parts department, and if you walk forward, deeper into the facility, you’ll find the service desk and its associated department, as well as the Suburban Speed Shop (see related article).

At the time of the interview with Drag Specialties Magazine, Suburban Motors Harley-Davidson had 82 pre-owned and 25 new motorcycles on the sales floor.

Since the passing of her late husband, Joan Houpt (left) continued on as the sole proprietor of the dealership. These days Todd Berlin (right) handles General Manager duties along with her son Joe Houpt. Behind them are the two original windows from the shop’s previous design.
The storefront of the Thiensville location before renovations that changed the exterior look. The two windows to the right are now displayed in the shop just as they were back then.
Suburban Motors Harley-Davidson has its service operations spread out at the main dealership, at a separate service area across the street and in the Suburban Speed Shop.

“That’s a typical number for today’s market,” Todd says. “We don’t like to have a lot of new bikes in inventory because we like to sell through them whereas some dealers will sit on a bunch. But that’s just not us. In different times, we’ve had 300 to 350 pre-owned but have always kept our new inventory down to a limit we feel we can sell through.”

What’s hot?

“It’s the Baggers,” Todd says.

“Our territory is pretty much Bagger Land,” Joe adds.

Suburban Motors Harley-Davidson’s parts, accessories and apparel inventories are huge too, featuring OE items, “as well as all of the cool Drag products we have hanging in the department,” Todd says.

The Suburban Motors Harley-Davidson service department features seven techs who each have two lifts. Across the street, in the other service area where they complete preowned inspection and repair, and new-model set-ups, there are three techs each with two lifts. Then, in the Suburban Speed Shop, there are two devoted techs each with two lifts.

ADJACENT OFFERINGS

The largest of which is Suburban’s Party on Main Harley-Davidson Homecoming Celebration held every year on the second Saturday of July.

“Events like these are a thank you to the wonderful customers of our Suburban family who have been the foundation of keeping our business going for the past 50 years,” Todd says.

On the day Drag Specialties Magazine talked with Todd and Joe, the two were preparing to attend a global event at the nearby Harley-Davidson headquarters. How helpful is it for Suburban Motors to be located so close to Harley-Davidson HQ?

“It has been beneficial,” Todd says. “ Our proximity has allowed us to form relationships with many at Harley corporate over the years. Plus, Milwaukee being the hub for Harley-Davidson’s rally, we often get that reciprocal business from many of the visitors.

“Remember, though, Wayne and Joan grew up here in Ozaukee County, so when he decided to go into the Harley business, he just happened to settle 20 miles north of Harley’s corporate offices.”

CUSTOMER BASE

Who is Suburban Motors Harley-Davidson’s average customer, and what are they looking for?

“Our average client is pretty much who everyone else has, the 50-year-old male or 40-year-old female looking for Baggers,” Todd says. “But generally, you’ll get some interest from the full spectrum, from young people who may be getting into a Sportster to people who used to ride and now are coming in for a Trike. Actually, Harley Trikes sales make up a pretty good market for us, too.”

How does Suburban Motors Harley-Davidson promote its business?

“Everyone has leaned into social media, and we do too, which is why Joe’s son Aaron leads our marketing department,” Todd says. “We know the way Wayne would’ve liked to do it, so we mix social media with print ads in local newspapers and with radio, and then even promote the business through our racing agenda.”

BEING A DRAG SPECIALTIES DEALER

Joe Houpt says Drag Specialties vendors “are very important to what we do.”

“We’re obviously a Harley-franchised dealer, but we do quite a bit in the aftermarket world because that’s what the customers want,” he says. “If every business is going to sell the same thing, then what makes the clients come to you? It’s important for us to have a close relationship with vendors and to know what works and what doesn’t work. When it works, we promote it, and that’s what has kept our relationships with these vendors overs the years.”

Their passion pushes them to stay on top of the events and trends in our industry, and they participate with performance work and racing representing just a couple of the areas of their involvement. You will see Joe at the track or sometimes working ‘Biker Build-Offs’ at industry events (see the story starting on page 39 about the NVP BRL Biker Build-Off). Joe continues to

“Brad helps us out with a lot of stuff,” Joe says. “We’ve known him for a long, long time, and he used to also be a dealer, so he knows how we operate, he knows the clientele, he knows the climate, he can talk the talk, and he probably knows some things about the business other reps may not know. So, ultimately, he’s an essential asset to both us and Drag and it’s really good to have him support us.”

New and pre-owned motorcycle sales are just one focus of Suburban Motors Harley-Davidson. The dealership also carries many products from Drag Specialties vendors, provides winter storage, hosts regular events, and has a performance shop and robust racing program through the Suburban Speed Shop.

The Suburban Speed Shop

Suburban Motors Harley-Davidson’s Suburban Speed Shop is the dealership’s full-service performance center. It does good business by offering built engines, race bikes, full custom builds, and show bikes that prove performance.

“My brother and I always raced dirt track, so we’ve always been a performance-based dealership, but the Speed Shop started in about 2005,” explains Joe Houpt, service manager and race team manager at Suburban Motors Harley-Davidson. “It came about because we used to do a large amount of parts sales to independent retailers until Harley cut that off from us. So, then we had a large area of the building that wasn’t being used anymore and decided that that would be a good time to start expanding our engine program. It actually started out as a machine shop, where we would make our own cams and our own pistons and develop our own head work.”

“We have two really good people working the Speed Shop,” says Suburban Motors Harley-Davidson General Manager

Todd Berlin. “Our shop manager is a guy named Rick Cassel. Rick spent 20 years on the NHRA tour as a crew chief and tuner, winning a nitro funny car championship and working for Don Prudhomme, Joe Gibbs and some other big players. He grew up in this town, and I know him from childhood. So, when he came off of the road after 20 years of professional drag racing, Joe and I hired him to manage the speed shop.

“Anyone can put engine packages together, but Rick’s knowledge of engine theory, bore/stroke, camshaft duration, lift, etc., helps us develop our packages. With that, he brings a lot of credibility and is a very important part of our speed shop business as a guy who has traveled the world and is absolutely legit.”

What type of bikes are they building up in the Suburban Speed Shop?

“We work on everything from Sportsters to Baggers to Trikes, with big-bore and stroker kits, turbos or superchargers, and

on older bikes,” Joe says. “We pretty much do everything and anything that is reliable. The philosophy in our shop is that I can build you anything to go fast, but we want to keep it reliable. A lot of our packages and concepts are built so that you can get on it and ride to California if you wanted to.”

While the Suburban Speed Shop will build its customers a full custom, the real ‘meat and potatoes’ of the business comes in the form of engine builds.

“As far as custom engine builds go, we have three or four racks that are completely full,” Joe says. “We’re doing motors all of the time. And, all of our motor stuff is done in-house, so we don’t have to send anything out to get headwork done or cylinders bored or anything like that. We do it all right here ourselves.”

The Suburban Speed Shop also handles Suburban Motors Harley-Davidson’s racing program competing in the Bagger Racing League and Grand National Hooligan Championship series.

“Since we come from the dirt track world – racing for 20-plus years – when the Hooligan league started up, we quickly got into that with our Hooligan Sportsters,” Joe says. “But we’ve also been involved in road-racing. We did the XR1200 series with the AMA back in 2011 and 2012, and won a championship with that, so when the Bagger racing started kicking off, we also jumped into that with both feet.”

Suburban Motors’ road race team this past year consisted of Cody Gilmore, who won the Bagger Racing League Championship; Jake Masters from Australia who ran a Pro-Stock road-race bike and took that championship; Brendan Foley from California who ran Super Street Bagger and won that championship; Shawn Hoffman (a Suburban Motors tech) who ran Super Street Bagger and ended up fifth for the year;

Jeremy DeRuyter who runs a Hooligan Sportster and won the championship; and DJ Slosser who also runs Hooligan and came in third in the standings this year.

Finally, in addition to creating custom bikes, engine building and fielding race teams, the Suburban Speed Shop has also been a partner of Drag Specialties in creating many of the Drag/FatBook/OldBook customs you may have seen at industry events.

“We’ve done maybe 18 bikes over the past 20 years,” Joe says. “Initially, Drag was buying all of their bikes and then building them up. Somehow the question came about, would it be possible for us to [loan] Drag Specialties a bike for a year, for us to customize it with all of Drag’s latest and greatest parts, allow them to show it, and then to give it back to us after a year? Well, that arrangement has worked out pretty well for both of us, they don’t need to buy the bike and we get a look at and work with all of the newest parts sometimes before other people even get a chance to see them.”

We are very fortunate to have such a well-rounded dealership pretty much in our back yard,” says Drag Specialties’ Tom Motko. “The folks at Suburban Motors understand the value of customizing bikes to meet customers’ needs, which ultimately makes a great partnership with our company to be able to showcase our products to dealers on bikes from Suburban Motors.”

What’s next?

The Suburban Speed Shop will continue to customize motorcycles for Drag Specialties for the 2026 season. Look for the bikes at future NVP Product Expo dates, Drag Dealer Training Tour stops, and other industry gatherings in the coming year. ■

New Frontiers Reimagined Brake Products

Although the GBrakes name may be new to the powersports market, the team responsible for the launch of the new motorcycle brake component manufacturer is no stranger to the industry. Launched into the U.S. market in September of 2025, GBrakes funnels more than 70 years of braking and friction knowledge, expertise and market experience into its new line of products available to Drag Specialties dealers. That line-up includes brake pads, rotors and custom hydraulic lines, many with proprietary technology.

Over the past 30 years, Giocar America Incorporated, led by CEO Sandro Milesi, operated as the importer of Galfer brake products in the U.S market under the name Galfer USA. With the Galfer distribution agreement recently coming to an end, Milesi and Giocar America decided to forge a new path independently, leveraging his team’s accumulated knowledge and experience to launch GBrakes to the U.S. market. The team includes experienced riders and racers to ensure each product fits and performs as flawlessly as possible.

“Our [family] knowledge of brakes, that’s all we’ve ever done,” says GBrakes CEO, Sandro Milesi. “My grandfather founded Galfer in Spain back in 1956, so we know brake pads, how they need to perform and where to get them. We had the connections and friendships, so we decided in April of this year to start GBrakes in the U.S. market. That’s when we decided, ‘Let’s continue doing this,’ and that’s how things got started.”

Brake pads were first on the list, with one such product being its HH friction-rated sintered pads, which features advanced materials that endure higher friction temperatures compared to semi-metallic carbon units. The combination results in a better feel at the front lever and rear pedal, along with improved modulation under heavy braking, making them ideal for aggressive riding and today’s larger and heavier V-Twins.

“We contacted a brake pad vendor and gave them the specifics of what we were looking for with respect to technology,” adds Milesi.

With GBrakes’ custom front and rear brake rotor configurator, your V-Twin customers can easily create a custom rotor that will match the style of their individualized motorcycles.

“We also looked ahead to what we’d have to deal with in the future as far as materials limitations, and decided to use NRS technology, which prevents the materials from delaminating through sheer force from a backing plate. Our material and vacuum plate are very well bonded. We also wanted to be ahead of the curve with respect to our materials, and not have any future issues, so our brake pads are all copper and nickel-free, environmentally friendly.”

Another product GBrakes is excited to introduce is its V-Twin brake rotors. They offer a host of OEM replacement and oversized options, including its legendary Wave® rotor design. continued on page 80...

GBrakes CEO Sandro Milesi has brakes in his bloodline. As the grandson of the founder of the Italian company, Galfer brake products, Milesi leaned on his family’s heritage and connections to launch GBrakes in the U.S. market. “Our [family] knowledge of brakes, that’s all we’ve ever done,” Milesi said.

GBrakes discs lower operating temperatures and produce more uniform pad wear. They also shave weight compared to the stock units. Each is laser-cut, not stamped, and then heat-treated and parallel ground for flatness. GBrakes rotors are manufactured in Spain and assembled in the U.S., where the centers (carriers) and buttons for these rotors are produced.

Adds Milesi, “When it came to rotors, we had a good knowledge base and hooked up with a high-quality manufacturer in Spain. All of the design and engineering is done here in the States, with the manufacturing done in Spain. Some assembly does happen here because one of the choices we made to accomplish this project was to manufacture some components here. The carriers and

by choosing the color and finish of the rotor’s carrier and aluminum buttons. The result is a custom brake rotor that’s as unique as each individual’s taste. Once an order is submitted, the rotor is manufactured and shipped to the customer’s Drag Specialties local dealer of choice.

With its entry into the market, GBrakes aims to usher in a new era of motorcycle brake performance for powersports enthusiasts, offering race-proven technology that meets the demands of modern high-horsepower V-Twin motorcycles. Expect to hear even more about GBrakes in the future, as the brand reimagines the customer buying experience with the intent of becoming the riders’ choice for reliable aftermarket brake components and accessories.

buttons for the outside friction ring are all made here in the States.”

On the subject of rotors, as part of the initial brand rollout, GBrakes introduced a clever web-based front and rear brake rotor configurator. The tool makes designing one-off, personalized brake rotors for dealers and retail customers as easy as a few mouse clicks and keystrokes. Users first choose a size and style, then complete the look

“We started this project in April, intending to have our V-Twin products ready by Sturgis,” Milesi shares. “By the first week of August, we had brake pads, with the brake rotors ready just in time for us to present at Sturgis.” ■

High-Performance Oil Pumps for Harleys

hether a bike just needs a few replacement parts or you’re helping a customer build something from the ground up, Drag Specialties is likely to have everything on your list in stock. One of those in-stock options is Drag Specialties Brand oil pumps for both new and late-model Harley-Davidsons.

For the latest Harleys, Drag’s High-Performance M-Eight oil pumps offer not just a lower price tag compared to an OEM replacement, but they’re more efficient, too. The oil feed and scavenge volume are both significantly improved compared to stock, earning the “high-performance” moniker in the oil pump’s name. A modified design results in a more efficient suction ratio on the scavenge-side discharge, and a spacer was added to improve oil flow. These little changes add up, with as much as a 126 percent feed improvement compared to the stock oil pump.

Similarly, Drag Specialties offers High-Performance Twin Cam oil pumps that provide a higher volume of oil. That, in turn, helps reduce both the engine and oil temperatures for a more efficient setup and better performance. The Twin Cam oil pump itself features a die-cast aluminum body paired with high-strength steel gears.

Drag’s oil pump assemblies, found in both the FatBook and the OldBook, are high-quality replacements that include the oil pump, plus all the gaskets and seals necessary for the installation.

When it comes to sourcing gaskets, O-rings and other sealing components needed for an oil pump rebuild, Cometic and James Gaskets both offer a host of choices. Cometic’s oil pump rebuild gasket kit includes every gasket, seal, O-ring, retaining ring, and shaft key needed to get the job done.

James Gaskets has oil pump gaskets for a wide range of Harleys, including older models, with both paper and mylar as options for the gasket material. Add in drain plug O-rings, shaft keys and other oil pump accessories, and rebuilding the oil pump – even on an older bike – is a cinch.

Helping dealers find every necessary part for a project, whether it’s a simple gasket replacement or a full bike build, is a point of pride for Drag Specialties.

Form Meets Function

Premium Foot Controls from a European Legend

Gilles Tooling knows how critical fit is to rider comfort and confidence. The legendary Luxembourg company was founded by a roadracer who wanted more functional footpegs, and 25 years later, Gilles is still focused on building refined and fully adjustable controls. Now, that expertise has been brought stateside and applied to Harley-Davidson Touring models thanks to a direct partnership with Drag Specialties.

This new lineup of Drag Specialties by Gilles components includes meticulously machined floorboards, footpegs, a shift lever, brake lever, and mirrors suitable for various Harley models, bringing premium European design to the American V-Twin market.

“Drag Specialties has been part of the V-Twin market from day one,” says Christoph Metzger, Head of Development at Gilles Tooling in Luxembourg, “and the team’s deep understanding of the segment is incredible. We at Gilles bring decades of engineering and production expertise, and the result is an incredible fusion of knowledge and talent.”

After months of discussion and development, the Drag Specialties by Gilles product line is ready to go, offering your customers exotic European style and unmatched adjustability. True to its heritage, Gilles focused on foot controls, with floorboards, a shift lever, and brake lever that can be adjusted to fit nearly any rider.

Beginning with standard fitment data for Harley’s Touring models, Gilles adapted the floorboard design to incorporate effective adjustments in all directions – up and down (by 3/8 inch), forward and back (by ½ inch), and out or in

Drag Specialties has partnered with noted precision controls manufacturer Gilles Tooling to create a meticulously machined range of floorboards, footpegs, a shift lever, brake lever, and mirrors, bringing premium European design to the American V-Twin market.
The Drag Specialties by Gilles floorboards were designed to be completely adjustable in all directions. Since riders have different size boots, different length legs and different seating preferences, this adjustability allows for rider-specific customization.

(by 5/8 inch). Since riders have different size boots, different length legs and different seating preferences, this adjustability allows for rider-specific customization. A replaceable protector on the outer edge of the floorboards provides additional safety and durability.

Shifting precision and comfort can be improved with the Gilles shift lever. The assembly has two fore/aft mounting holes for the toe and heel pegs, and the design of the base of the pegs allows for further fine tuning. Furthermore, the splined shaft and arms allow for axial adjustment, helping to eliminate play in the shift linkage. The levers rotate on low-friction washers that don’t require lubrication or adjustment.

Controlling the rear brake is easier when it’s conveniently positioned at the right height, and with the pad the perfect distance away. The new brake lever allows just that, with adjustments for pad position and lever angle. The brake lever features sealed ball bearings for play-free and maintenance-free operation; exactly the type of precision Gilles is known for in racing applications.

“The floorboards and levers incorporate hidden adjustment features that remain almost invisible once installed,” explains Metzger. “The overall design appears clean and understated, with premium surface finishes and precision-milled detailing. All adjustment screws are accessible without disassembling any vehicle components, ensuring extremely short setup times.”

To that end, the floorboards, shifter, and braker levers are available individually or as a complete, preassembled kit.

Complementing the foot controls, the Drag Specialties by Gilles lineup includes matching passenger footpegs that match the contrastcut design of the floorboards. Featuring standard Harley mounts, they can also be used as rider pegs on other various models.

The product line is complemented by two mirror assemblies: One with standard 4¾-inch arms to match standard Harley lengths, and an extended 71/8-inch version for an improved rear view. The aluminum arms support fully articulating diamond-shaped mirrors.

All of these Gilles components are precision machined from 6082 aluminum alloy and offered in Black or a stunning Black/Gold combination. “In this collaboration, we use a rare satin-black anodized finish rather than a glossy one,” explains Metzger. “Our strict quality control includes color measurement and matching for every component, ensuring that all parts – from mirrors to floorboards – share the exact same shade. This means additional Drag Specialties by Gilles products can be retrofitted later while maintaining perfect color harmony and visual consistency.”

The Black/Gold option involves an especially specific production process, wherein each part is machined, sent to anodizing for black application, and then milled again to expose the areas to be colored gold. A second round of anodizing finalizes the finish.

“Each product carries the Drag Specialties and Gilles logos,” Metzger relates. “We decided to do the logos during the CNC process, meaning they’re milled and not just lasered, so there’s deep engraving to match the look of the rest of the product.”

“Our partnership with Drag Specialties feels like working with family,” says Metzger, “I really appreciate their straightforward and sincere approach.”

Depending on the specific product, this new component line will fit Touring models ranging from 2000 to 2025, while the footpegs and mirrors will fit a range of models and years. Your customers love unique parts and a customized fit, and that’s exactly what they’ll get from Gilles. Drag Specialties by Gilles components are in stock and ready to ship. ■

Full-Faced Filtration

Innovative Oval Air Cleaners for Big Twins

Nothing but a spray gun and a dream led the late Arlen Ness to creating his first chopper, and now, more than 50 years later, this iconic name is home to a massive array of motorcycle parts and accessories. Always driven by innovation and original design, the latest from the Ness camp brings a new level of form and function to air cleaners.

The first thing you’ll notice about Arlen Ness’ *(EMIS Code 3) Stage 2 Oval Air Cleaners is the open face filter design. Where many traditional air cleaners have a flat faced cover, Arlen Ness designers saw that as an opportunity to welcome more air into riders’ Big Twin engines.

“ Our all-new Stage 2 Oval Air Cleaner kits were developed for riders looking for massive airflow without sacrificing leg clearance.” – Zach Ness

A unique, oval body houses a pre-oiled performance filter that allows for ample airflow directly into a radius design backing plate. This combination was specifically designed to bump up horsepower and torque by allowing the engine to intake the unobstructed air it needs.

Performance gains aren’t the only reason for Arlen Ness’ proprietary, Stage 2 Oval design. The additional air flow allows for a low profile frame with no sacrifice to function, creating ample legroom for riders.

“Our all-new Stage 2 Oval Air Cleaner kits were developed for riders looking for massive airflow without sacrificing leg clearance,” says Zach Ness. “Its oval-shaped filter allows for maximum filter pleat coverage for big airflow while keeping a low-profile shape, so rider legroom is not reduced. I run the Stage 2 Oval on my personal daily rider – it’s my new favorite intake we offer.”

As with all Arlen Ness parts, quality is prioritized for Stage 2 Oval Air Cleaners through premium materials and precision manufacturing. Each filter cover and spacer are CNC-machined from billet aluminum and are finished with anodizing or chrome, giving customers the choice of Black, Chrome, Contrast (machined against black), Gold, Red and Blue.

For riders who want to add another level of style, they can opt for Arlen Ness’ Method Oval Air Cleaners. These feature the same low profile oval design, but with a clear, polycarbonate window on the face for a view into the engine’s intake system. Method Oval Air Cleaners are available in all the same finishes as Stage 2, maximizing options for your customers.

Fitment for both of these air cleaner styles include 2024 Touring and 2025 Softail, 2017-2023 M8, 2008-2016 FLT, 2016-2017 Fly-By-Wire models and 2000-2017 Twin Cam. ■

High Level Clearance

New 4-inch Diameter HP-Plus Mufflers

Using direct feedback from its dealer partners and retail customers, American exhaust manufacturer Khrome Werks is pleased to introduce its new 4.0-inch HP-Plus line of mufflers, 2-into-1 slipon mufflers and laser-etched accessory billet end caps.

The new line of mufflers is built to fit Harley-Davidson Softail and Touring models – including Trikes. Like all of its exhaust systems, the new *(EMIS Code 4) 4.0-Inch HP-Plus line produces Khrome Werks’ signature authoritative tone, minus high-frequency annoying noises.

Each 4.0-inch HP-Plus muffler is made from the same high-quality 16-gauge materials and finishes as those found on its 4.5-inch HP-Plus mufflers. Muffler styles include straight or slash cut in black or chrome finishes. A stylish, laser-etched Khrome Werks “K” logo is emblazoned on each muffler, adding a factory finished look.

The smaller diameter of the 4.0-inch mufflers is especially ideal for Harley Touring Trike owners. With Trikes built for added balance and stability, ground clearance can sometimes be an issue, especially when navigating steep driveways, abrupt trailer ramps and other sharp inclines. Khrome Werks set out to alleviate these issues with improved ground clearance mufflers.

Customers can choose from Standard (perforated) or Ripper (solid) internal baffles on select 4.0-inch model fitments. With the Ripper baffle inserts so popular with its 4.5-inch HP-Plus customers, Khrome Werks chose to offer dealers separate part numbers for mufflers with the Ripper baffles pre-installed. Current Harley model fitments include M8 models, Touring Twin Cams and Trikes, with separate part numbers for Softails with the OEM 2-into-1 exhaust system.

Also, new from Khrome Werks are laser-etched billet end caps to add an extra level of customization and a unique

finish to its 4.5-inch mufflers. The laser-etched end caps give the mufflers a finished look and are available in digital camo carbon or standard carbon fiber finishes.

“2026 will be a big year for us,” says Travis Schmid, National Sales Manager. “We’re working on a ton of new product development and are pushing to get it to market faster than ever. Khrome Werks is always in gear and racing forward!” ■

CGetting Closer A Seat with Adjusted Reach

omfort and style are key aspects of any seat from LePera Motorcycle Seats, and the company knows that every rider has a different definition of what comfort on a V-Twin means. That’s why the popular TailWhip seat is offered in an Up Front configuration, which moves the rider 2 inches closer to the handlebars.

The TailWhip Up Front is a great choice for riders who prefer a seating position that brings them closer to the handlebars, allowing them to get the right ergonomics for their riding style. LePera already offers a lot of its seats in an Up Front version, as well as a Daddy Long Legs option that gives riders more legroom.

Adding the TailWhip Up Front seat to the lineup was a natural choice. The TailWhip, which is designed for comfort on long rides as well as maneuverability for maximum showing off, is one of LePera’s most in-demand seat designs.

“The TailWhip has become a crowd favorite,” says Christine LePera. “Doesn’t matter if it’s a quick rip or a longer ride, it holds its killer style.”

That killer style features a comfortable seating area and a “whipped-up” tail design that adds ample back support as well as a comfortable perch for a passenger. LePera’s specially poured and formulated high-density Marathon molded foam provides comfort, while the carpeted 16-gauge powder coated steel baseplate ensures a perfect fit. ■

Good Under Pressure

An Easy Way to Test Cooling Jets

Harley-Davidson Milwaukee Eight and Twin Cam engines can be affected by faulty piston-cooling jets. It’s one of those small problems that can cause big issues, like sumping and soggy breather systems. Testing the jets is a smart move, and now your techs and customers have an easy way to check the nozzles thanks to Feuling’s Assembled Engine Case Piston Cooling Jet Pressure Tester.

“This tool is a great addition to any toolbox,” says Luke Leatherman, owner of Feuling. “Leaking piston cooling jets cause a loss of oil pressure, especially at idle and low rpm, and will increase the sump oil level which will also raise engine and oil temperatures and cause havoc on the oiling and breather systems.”

This tool features a precision regulator with a liquid-filled gauge, so your techs and customers can confirm that the oil jets open at 12 to 18 psi. If the jets don’t pop off, it’s a lot better to find out while the bike is in the shop, where the problem can be addressed. “This service should be added to every engine build and cam job performed,” says

Leatherman. “It’s a billable service on your engine work, and it reassures the engine builder that the piston cooling jets are functioning properly.”

As with all Feuling products, this new Pressure Tester is made in America and made to last. ■

MStreet Performance Replacement Pistons for Evolution Engines

any authorized Harley-Davidson dealers prefer to service only late-model engines, meaning Milwaukee-Eight, Twin Cams, VRods and post-1985 Sportsters. This often leaves Evolution-powered customers searching for a local independent shop or regional custom builder to rebuild their “dated” Evo engine when service or repair is needed.

Known for its high-performance line of replacement pistons for Harley Twin Cam and late-model Sportster engines, KB Performance is also a premium choice for Evo-engine pistons, though many may not be aware of this. KB offers two styles of Evo pistons: its high-strength “Hypereutectic” and time-proven Forged line, both engineered for optimal performance in 1984-1999 Evo engines.

KB Hypereutectic pistons utilize a high-silicon, 390 aluminum alloy that is T-5 heat-treated. The material is engineered to reflect heat into the combustion chamber, which boosts power output and helps these pistons resist expansion. The material also hardens the piston for improved wear and scuff resistance. KB’s Forged 4032 alloy pistons are also a

great replacement option, especially for high-performance and high-compression rebuilds.

Every KB Hypereutectic and Forged piston kit includes rings, wrist pins, locks and anti-friction-coated skirts. They also feature low-expansion alloys for the tightest possible piston-to-wall clearance. KB’s anti-friction coatings offer long piston life and less cylinder wear. ■

Mighty Mini Big Help in a Smaller Package

Troubleshooting a vehicle while on the go just got easier with the Moto Mini Pro from CanDo International. This latest tool from the company packs all the information and capabilities of the Moto Pro into a smaller size, covering a wide range of motorcycle and recreational vehicle brands from European, Asian and American manufacturers.

The Moto Mini Pro is great for service tasks like troubleshooting, clearing codes, ABS brake bleeding, calibrations, gathering live data, programming keys and more. And all of it comes in a tablet that is smaller than the original Moto Pro.

“The Moto Mini Pro is a lot lighter and more portable than the Moto Pro, weighing almost half and having dimensions more than an inch smaller and thinner than the Moto Pro,” says CanDo International’s Victor Rivilla. “If you’re trying to troubleshoot and have the need to record live data on a test ride, it is much easier to stow in a saddlebag or small backpack.”

In addition to the tablet – which is loaded with software that includes the current model year – the Moto Mini Pro also comes with the cables needed to plug it in and get to

Low Rider Adjustable

Lowering Kits for Harley-Davidsons

Whether a rider is looking for a more comfortable ride height or just going for aesthetics, a lowering kit from Müller Motorcycle is an easy and attractive way to bring things down to a rider’s preferred height. And, by using the company’s spring compressor tool, installation is easier than ever.

Müller Motorcycle initially offered its lowering kit for EVO and Twin Cam Harley-Davidson models. Then, after the introduction of the M8 platform, a lowering kit for those models was added, too.

The lowering kit provides as much as 40mm (1.6 inches) of ride-height reduction, and the full adjustability means the rider can choose the exact height they want to suit their taste. For Twin Cam models, the kit can increase ride height, too. Each lowering kit is engineered and

manufactured in Germany, using high-quality stainless steel and billet aluminum.

“Every lowering kit we create is the result of detailed analysis, testing and refinement—all to achieve the perfect harmony of design, function and rider comfort,” says Fabian Müller, CEO of Müller Motorcycle.

The spring compressor tool is the perfect companion for the lowering kit. It clamps to the shock absorber and holds the spring in place, allowing the lowering kit to be bolted on quicker and easier. Even though the tool was designed for M8 Softails, an adaptor makes it compatible with EVO and Twin Cam models, too. ■
