My Good Friend Tom Motzko

Welcome Drag Specialties dealers! Starting on page 32 in this issue, you will see our report of the recent NVP Product Expo in Louisville. We have provided photos, stories and related details of the semi-annual gathering of Drag Specialties, Parts Unlimited and Parts Canada’s management, sales reps, vendors and dealers. It has been going on now for so many years, it’s more than an event, it’s a tradition.

Some bittersweet news that was announced in Louisville, though, was that this would be the last NVP for two long-time LeMans employees, Tom Moztko and Kathy Sommervold. For us here at Drag Specialties Magazine, we are happy for them as they begin their retirement, but we will miss working with them like we have the entire 32+ years we have published the magazine.

Be sure to read our farewell features about them starting on pages 18 (Tom) and 22 (Kathy). If you knew them or not, I hope you will see how much they have meant to us, both as business associates as well as good friends.

In addition to the many telephone conversations and meetings at trade shows that we had these many years, something that made my connection to Tom even stronger was that he has always been a real “24/7/365 days a year motorcycle guy.” No golf, no boats, no fishing poles – just motorcycles. And what better person to be able to tell the Drag story to a new or prospective product vendor? Tom goes back to the 1970s selling the Drag Specialties Coffin taillight!

When I was writing the Fred Fox book a few years back, Tom and I talked at length about when Fred Fox bought Drag Specialties. From the day Fred owned Drag, Motzko became Fred’s eyes and ears on the lookout for people in the industry with good ideas and promising potential, but in need of nationwide distribution. What a success story that became.

The good news ending to this story is that Tom isn’t going completely away, at least not yet. From his home base in Spearfish, South Dakota, Tom Motzko will still be involved for a while helping Drag get his functions worked into the system there. But hopefully his schedule will loosen up enough for him to do more riding and building more custom motorcycles. That’s his passion.

Thanks, Tom, for all you have done to help me and my staff here with the magazine, and most of all, your friendship. ■

TOM MOTZKO SIGNS OFF

A 51-YEAR DRAG SPECIALTIES LEGACY

No one has Tom Motzko’s perspective on Drag Specialties. Who else could? Motzko started with the company in 1974 and, with his retirement announced at the Louisville NVP in January, his 51-year run with the company stands unmatched.

Motzko credits several factors for his longevity. First, he says, was the ability to ride the waves of change as methods and people shifted. “There’s always the next new thing or bright bulb coming along,” he says. “It was a lesson in staying under the radar – or hiding under your desk, if that’s what it took.”

He also points to the people he worked with, including Jim Betlach, another early Drag employee from whom Motzko says he learned a great deal about evaluating people and reading personalities. “Jim introduced me to so many people. I paid attention and got good at it,” Motzko says. Their lifelong friendship was a bonus.

Ultimately, Motzko says, it goes back to Fred Fox and his son Jeff Fox because Motzko had full confidence in what Fred called “the machine” – the ethics, processes and credibility of LeMans Corporation. “It was easy to sell the company,” Motzko says. “My calling card was the 2,000-page FatBook. That’s a pretty good calling card.”

Of course, it didn’t start out that way. As a 20-year-old, Motzko worked at the Drag Specialties warehouse in Minneapolis

pulling orders. After Fox bought the company from original founder Tom Rudd in 1988 and rolled it into LeMans Corporation, Motzko took on additional duties and then ran purchasing for the next 13 years.

“I was responsible for purchasing, product development, product selection, cataloging, all of the pricing, all of the tooling, the amortization of tooling, and a few other things I don’t remember. It was too much, really,” he says.

Tom became the company’s first remote employee when he and his wife Debbie moved to Spearfish, South Dakota, in 2003 and Fred gave him a new role – Head of Vendor Relations and Business Development – the title that’s still on Tom’s business card. He described the role this way: “That entailed managing the existing relationships we had from when Fred bought the company and also procuring potential new ones like Roland Sands, Don Hotop, Fat Baggers Inc., Legend Suspensions and Custom Dynamics. I could name 30 more!

“I would explain the company’s ethics, how we operate, that we do what we say we will. I could tell a potential vendor to call anyone in the catalog and ask how we treat them and pay them.”

The work centered on building long-term relationships and, over the years, many business connections became friendships. Working with Drag’s National Sales Manager,

The late Drag Specialties National Sales Manager Jim Matchette (left) and Tom at the NVP in Madison, Wisconsin. The two made a legendary duo in Drag Specialties’ history.
The history of Drag Specialties is also Tom Motzko's story. After 51 years with the company, he's headed to a well-deserved retirement.

the late Jim Matchette, strengthened that effort. “Very sincerely, that was the reason Matchette and I were so successful, because we had Fred and Jeff behind us,” he says. “They believed in us and they trusted that we knew Drag Specialties and the market. They fueled us to build relationships.”

Motzko also navigated the tougher conversations, because that was part of the job, too. “I’m the first one to admit that not every decision we made, not every vendor we added, not every relationship worked out,” he says. “We made mistakes and if it wasn’t going to work out, I explained that to a vendor. But I always felt I could look myself in the mirror and feel good knowing I tried to do the right thing.”

That perspective came into focus again when Motzko was inducted into the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum Hall of Fame in 2025 and saw so many friends in the room. “I looked out over the 750 people there and came to the realization that I’d done business with about 90 percent of them along the way,” he notes.

Jeff Derge, a former LeMans VP of Sales, reinforces that point. “When I reflect on Tom’s tenure with Drag Specialties, the many suppliers and dealers he has supported, and the ripple effect of their employees being able to provide for their families while doing what they love – it’s truly remarkable.”

When asked what advice he’d pass along, Motzko doesn’t hesitate. He says he has lived and worked by four hard rules:

1) It’s about relationships. Period.

2) Do what you say you’re gonna do.

3) Be honest and say thank you.

4) It’s not always about money.

Admitting that he goes overboard on the third item, Motzko has always sent hand-written notes by snail mail after meetings. Raise your hand if you’ve been on the receiving end of that pleasantry!

Motzko adds, “As Fred used to say, this isn’t complicated. You can never go wrong telling the truth and being honest with someone or looking them in the eye.”

Don’t be surprised if you still see Tom Motzko out and about. He’s glad to leave the day-to-day concerns behind, but he will continue orchestrating custom bike builds for the Drag Specialties catalogs and will occasionally show up at events. And that segues into another bit of Fred Fox advice: “Fred told me something once about job security; that’s getting to come back the next day and do it again.”

All these years later, that’s one lasting lesson Tom evidently took to heart. ■

Train Now. Sell Better.

DRAG SPECIALTIES LAUNCHES THE LEMANS GROWTH ACADEMY

Powersports dealers carry dozens of parts and accessory brands. That means salespeople need to understand potentially hundreds of products – tires, apparel, exhaust pipes, gaskets, helmets, lubricants and much more.

That training challenge is built into the powersports business. Dealership sales staff are expected to know a wide range of brands, product categories and fitment details while helping customers in real time. Vendors and distributors have long relied on catalogs, emails, websites, texts, rep visits and trade shows to close the knowledge gap, but it remains a constant struggle to keep sales teams current across such a broad, fast-changing mix of products.

“The challenge we saw, with all the brands and products in the Drag Specialties and Parts Unlimited catalogs

– FatBook, OldBook, Street, Off-Road, Snow and more – is that it’s difficult to get all that information out to the industry,” says Kurt Kaufmann, CEO of the company that helped Drag Specialties and Parts Unlimited create the new LeMans Growth Academy. “This digital learning environment is available to sales reps and powersports dealers carrying Parts and Drag products.”

The Growth Academy aggregates training from our top brands in one spot.”

LeMans launched the Growth Academy in January at the NVP Product Expo in Louisville, Kentucky. The online training platform includes 5- to 15-minute training sessions on the brands themselves as well as the features and benefits of their products. “Most importantly,” notes Kaufmann, “the training focuses on how products can add value to the consumer and how dealers can position those products to maximize the sale.”

Kaufmann brings firsthand powersports experience, including work with an aftermarket product company and Drag Specialties dealers. Drawing on that background, he says one recurring challenge was helping sales staff shift the conversation from price alone to overall value. He notes that if customers focused only on price, they were less likely to choose his company’s product, but with training, staff could explain its full value and make the sale easier to justify.

That same value-focused approach is central to the LeMans Growth Academy’s objective: giving dealership teams the product knowledge and confidence to sell beyond price.

Launched at the Louisville NVP Product Expo, the LeMans Growth Academy gives dealers one place for quick, brandbased training that builds product knowledge, boosts confidence and helps sales teams sell on value.
The LGA’s Kurt Kaufmann (center left) was on hand at the NVP to educate Drag and Parts reps on the program.
Todd Olson photo

THE SALES SIDE

Kaufmann says the LeMans Growth Academy organizes training by product category, including apparel and helmets, exhaust and engine, tires and wheels, and suspension and braking. Users click into a category and view brand-created content delivered through the platform. The training is structured to reflect the Drag Specialties and Parts Unlimited sides of the business, helping distinguish V-Twin and metric product segments. “It’s all based around a proprietary LMS, or learning management system,” he adds.

Vendors can create training pieces that are more foundational to their brand or more specific to the value of individual products. Both have a place in the Growth Academy library. Both types are similar to in-person training sessions held during LeMans NVP events and other Drag Specialties opportunities. While not a complete replacement for in-person experiences, the online academy can fill gaps between events, allowing for continuous training.

Within the first three weeks of launch, 850 dealers had signed on to use the Academy. “It’s free for dealers to use, and we had more than 10,000 courses completed on the platform in the first few weeks of the program,” says Kaufmann. “LeMans shouldered most of the upfront costs.”

VENDOR VIEW

“Our sales and marketing team works on the training materials. You don’t have to be a graphic artist,” says Rob Bluma, Chief Sales Officer at Custom Dynamics. “We can work easily through the template system with the formats provided.”

Dealership owners and managers can set up their own reporting so they can hold staff accountable for engagement and reward participation.

Kaufmann says the plan is to build out more general education courses as well, including sales and service, in-store best practices and soft-skills training. “LeMans sees this as a way to further support the industry,” he notes. “The industry sees pretty high turnover at the retail level. One thing that contributes to that is a feeling of insufficient resources or a lack of confidence as folks come from other customer service or retail sales roles.”

This presents an opportunity to help dealers build stronger sales-career paths.

The platform gives vendors another way to stay connected with dealers between in-person visits and events. It also creates a more consistent home for product education, making it easier to organize training by brand, category and sales focus. For companies already investing in dealer

outreach, the Growth Academy can extend that effort by turning common questions and real-world sales conversations into on-demand training content.

Bluma is also excited about the future the Growth Academy creates. “We need to help salespeople succeed in dealerships by providing more information. Right now, younger generations are not sticking around,” he explains. “The more this Growth Academy expands and has data behind it, the more dealers will see success, and salespeople will have more opportunities to excel. There have been other training tools, but they have not had the follow-through like this one. The Growth Academy can help dealers by moving salespeople from ‘worker’ to ‘expert.’”

Vendors can provide rewards, swag, samples, discounts and other incentives for engaging with the training courses.

Some powersports OEMs have used online training, so many dealers are already accustomed to these tools. “Folks are really excited to have this tool available in one combined environment, instead of different platforms from all the parts and accessories brands. The feedback has been positive that everything is under one roof,” Kaufmann says.

“What LeMans is seeing is the market is shifting away from just selling on price and toward selling on value,” he says. “What we’re starting to understand is the best retailers and dealers in the space are not just taking orders. They’re ultimately adding value in that customer journey.” ■

KATHY SOMMERVOLD RETIRES

FOUR DECADES OF TEAMWORK AND CAN-DO GRIT

As Fred purchased additional segments of business, Kathy moved up the ranks and helped integrate these new lines. That sometimes meant spending weeks away with newly added teams to support training and a smooth transition.

“That was one of the things I loved to do,” she says.

As time went on, she learned other sides of the business.

“When we were at our temporary place in Janesville, Fred bought Drag Specialties, so we got truckloads full of Drag products then,” she says. And when the company moved into the new Janesville facility, she helped get that going.

“That was a project!”

In 1993, when Kathy was assisting the manager in the warehouse at Janesville, a position became available to run events with the late “Jet” Johnson, then VP of Sales and Marketing. Fred and now retired Secretary of LeMans Corporation Lynne Severson offered her the position as Event Coordinator.

At first, there was no events department and no team. “I trained myself,” she says. “In the early days my husband and young daughter would help me stuff event hospitality invitations at home.”

Writing about Kathy Sommervold’s retirement from the LeMans Corporation after 44 years of loyal service might sound like a slam dunk. But it’s harder than you’d think. It’s not enough to say that everyone who’s worked with Kathy over the decades respects and admires her.

Her work ethic, enthusiasm and creativity set a high bar. So do her sense of humor and zest for fun. You could run out of adjectives trying to capture what she’s meant to so many people, and that feels fitting for someone so widely respected and appreciated.

Someone did recognize Kathy’s strengths early on. It was a lucky day for the late Fred Fox when she applied for a job at LeMans’ Edgerton, Wisconsin, offices in December 1982. She was hired on the spot.

Kathy started out entering orders and quickly wanted to do more. With sales department supervisor Jan Anderson’s encouragement, she began assisting with larger orders and kept expanding her role as she learned new sides of the business.

Over time, the events department grew into a team of five. Lisa Reif has been Kathy’s assistant for the past 23 years and has now taken on Kathy’s role as Event Manager. “That makes it so easy for me to transition into retirement because she knows everything about the position,” Kathy says. Lisa agrees. “Over the years, we built quite the highlight reel – event-day curveballs, travel adventures that turned into the best stories, long car rides with unexpected detours and questionable restroom stops, and airport walks that could count as cardio,” she says. “There’s a reason the Events Team started calling Kathy our ‘fearless leader’ many years ago; she led with heart, humor, and the ability to solve just about anything.”

Teresa Reilly, Program Administrator-Sales & Marketing, remembers when she came aboard 38 years ago under Kathy’s guidance. “From day one, Kathy set the standard. She greeted everyone with a sincere ‘good morning’ and a warm smile, and she carried that positivity with her every single day,” Teresa says. “Over the years, we’ve seen a lot of

changes, growth, and challenges, but one thing that never changed was Kathy’s unwavering loyalty and dedication to the Fox family and to LeMans.”

One of the events that really showcases the efforts of Kathy and the events team is the annual National Vendor Presentation, which launched in 2000 in the format that it still follows today. The NVP soon outgrew the Janesville and Madison venues, and now takes place in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Louisville, Kentucky.

Kathy also worked with Drag’s late National Sales Manager Jim Matchette for many years. Together they developed the Drag Specialties Dealer Rides. Kathy explains, “Parts Unlimited was doing the UP 300 Ride and THOR had its RM 300 Ride. Jim said, ‘Why can’t we do a Drag Ride?’ So, we did.”

Though these rides have become extremely popular with dealers, Kathy says the first one, in 2006 in Sturgis, didn’t get the attendance that the rides get today. After that, Jim and Kathy developed a strong program and the Drag Ride has since become a must-do event, with spots filling up as soon as it’s announced. “It’s my favorite,” Kathy says.

“We always had a lot of laughs, Jim and me. [One] time, we were flying into Detroit, and we thought the plane was going to go down. The flight attendant said to remove sharp objects from our pockets and put our heads down,” Kathy says. “Jim looked at me and said, ‘Nice knowing you, Kath!’ When we landed, there were fire trucks and ambulances, it was scary… So, we had a couple of beers at Chili’s before we got on our next flight to Madison!”

If you’ve been to an NVP or a Drag Dealer Ride, you’ve seen Kathy and the Events Team in action, and enjoyed the results of their much celebrated efforts. That’s why her retirement feels less like an ending and more like a handoff, with a seasoned team in place and long-running events built on a format that continues to work, even as venues and logistics evolve. ■

AIM EXPO 2026 SNAPSHOT!

ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA – JANUARY 7-9

The 2026 AIMExpo rolled into the Anaheim Convention Center in early January in Anaheim, California and the LeMans Corporation was on hand with large, welloutfitted booths for Parts Unlimited and its sister company Drag Specialties. The setup gave dealers, vendors and industry partners a central place to connect and do business throughout the show.

Beyond the LeMans presence, many of the brands distributed through Parts Unlimited and Drag Specialties also had booths across the event, reinforcing the depth and reach of the companies’ aftermarket offerings. Several OEMs also used AIMExpo as a stage to unveil new and updated models, giving dealers and media an early look at upcoming releases.

One of the more talked-about features of the trade-only event took place in the Drag Specialties booth, where a team from Drag dealer Suburban Motors Harley-Davidson built a Bagger Racing League bike live on the show floor. The build was completed with components readily available through the Drag Specialties FatBook, tying the build back to real-world inventory and sales opportunities. The live build offered a hands-on look at the parts, process and performance focus behind modern Bagger racing and consistently drew attention throughout the event.

Beyond the machines, parts, products, apparel and accessories on display, AIMExpo also featured a full program of educational seminars. These sessions were designed to help dealers improve and streamline their businesses, explore emerging trends in the powersports space, and gain insight into shifting consumer behavior.

Here’s a pictorial of the sights of the 2026 AIMExpo.

THE 2026 BAGGER RACING LEAGUE SEASON PREVIEW ON TRACK

Things are looking bright for the Drag Specialties Bagger Racing League as it heads into the 2026 season, with more teams, more fans and more performance products than ever before. We caught up with series CEO Rob Buydos to get a look at what to expect when things kick off in May, and how dealers can take advantage of this rapidly growing segment of the V-Twin scene.

The Bagger Racing League (BRL) started in 2000. Back then, there were plenty of naysayers who didn’t think Baggers had a place on the racetrack. Thankfully, the doubters were proven wrong, and after a showcase year to prove what was possible, the series evolved into the seven-race season it is now. There are multiple classes to suit every type of budget and competition level, from the high-performance Andrews Products Bagger GP Race Class to the more stock-based classes.

“We haven’t really altered the rules since the inception,” Buydos says. “The biggest rule we’ve implemented is that the frame must stay stock. It’s a complete bolt-together bike.”

Not only does that stock-frame rule keep budgets within reason, allowing more teams and dealers to compete, but it also makes the race bikes more relatable for the fans who are watching. A rider can easily identify aftermarket parts on a Bagger race bike, then ask for that exact part from their Drag Specialties dealer.

And, of course, that part is something that can be found in the FatBook. As Buydos explains, “That was always the intention, to showcase how immense and versatile the FatBook is. You can still build a big-wheel Bagger or a chopper out of there, but right now the market has focused on this, and I think it’s because we’re showing you what these things are really capable of, what they sound like and how they look in motion.”

It’s that “in motion” part that has helped set Bagger racing apart. While custom motorcycles are typically built to look great while standing still, BRL bikes are focused on performance.

“We’re able to use these high-end components to turn bikes from a heavy Touring bike into a nimble, much sharper knife in the drawer,” Buydos says. “These bikes are now viewed as a performance item rather than a heavy, sluggish V-Twin Touring bike.”

As the BRL has grown in popularity, more and more companies are producing items with the intention of using them for racing. Since the series started, it has become a lot easier to find Bagger parts that are specifically designed to save weight, boost horsepower or give a racer a more aggressive stance for better control.

As Buydos explains, when the BRL was still new, “the FatBook was really a great jumping-off point to get a lot of the parts. Since then, [the number] of parts developed through racing

that have then made their way to the consumer has been incredible. Subframes, motors, suspension, the ergonomics of the bike; they’ve all been heavily influenced by this.” V-Twins on the street are seeing a big push toward performance, too, with more and more riders opting for those upgrades that are about so much more than aesthetics. The question, then, is who is influencing who? Did the BRL set off a street trend, or is it the other way around?

Whatever the answer is, one thing is certain – the performance focus is helping usher in a new kind of rider demographic that tends to skew younger, and that’s great news for the V-Twin scene.

“The average age of the BRL racer is 28 years old,” Buydos notes. “We’ve really been able to bring the demographic down. These people will own 4 or 5 new motorcycles between now and the age of 50. We’re getting the demographics younger, we’re getting them safer, and with BRL, a dealer can use the FatBook and build either the most exotic or a middle-of-the-road bike.”

This trend is also affecting the kind of gear riders buy. A bike designed to go fast and push the limits requires gear that suits that riding style. Buydos says the performance focus has also put a focus on the safety of the rider. “Because the bikes are performance bikes, they’re riding them differently, so things like the helmet are becoming more important,” says Buydos.

More dealers are building bikes to compete in the 2026 BRL season, which will have seven rounds hosted at four tracks, including three double-header weekends. Meanwhile, dealers have found another way to take advantage of the BRL – hosting viewing parties of the races. Customers who are watching might start noticing parts on the race bikes, and the parts department can simply point to it in the FatBook ■

Supercharge Your Open House DRAG SEMI BRINGS CUSTOM BIKES, VENDORS, MARKETING SUPPORT

Drag dealers hosting events at their facilities from March through October 2026 can apply for the Drag Specialties Dealer Open House Program that’ll have the Drag Specialties Event Semi and its fleet of FatBook and OldBook cover bikes and supplierinspired builds.

“This year marks the launch of our newly revamped Dealer Open House Program,” says Amy Pittman, Events Coordinator, Drag Specialties. “While we have had supported dealer open houses in the past – primarily in conjunction with our Dealer Training Tour – those efforts were centered largely around delivering product training at the dealership level.

“The 2026 program represents a strategic evolution. We’ve expanded the focus beyond training to create a more comprehensive event platform designed to drive traffic, strengthen partnerships and generate sales,” Pittman adds.

“At its core, the program reflects our commitment to supporting the dealers who support us, providing them with a high-impact event experience built specifically around their growth and success.”

The Drag Specialties Semi Display is loaded with the 2026 FatBook (built by Kodlin) and 2026/2027 OldBook (Built by Deadwood Customs) cover bikes. In addition, three dedicated Open House Program bikes will travel with the program. Two of those builds were completed by Suburban Harley-Davidson, along with a custom 2020 FLTR, built for ICON by Dream Rides of Tennessee. Each motorcycle showcases parts and accessories from participating supplier partners, highlighting real-world applications of the products dealers carry and giving customers direct inspiration for their own V-Twin builds.

The semi will be joined by an on-site Drag Specialties team of expert staff and sales representatives promoting and selling your products, as well as support from select participating suppliers to enhance the customer experience.

Brands showcased include big names like Arlen Ness, Barnett, Drag Branded Seats, Dunlop, Fi2000, GBrakes, ICON, LePera Seats, Memphis Shades, Motion Pro, Motul, Progressive Suspension, Rekluse, Saddlemen, Thrashin Supply, Vance and Hines, and Yuasa Battery.

LOUISVILLE NVP PRODUCT EXPO

JUMP-STARTING A NEW YEAR OF SALES

Winter may slow riding in much of the country, but it doesn’t slow the business of getting ready for riding season. If anything, it sharpens the focus. This is the window when Drag Specialties dealers and retailers build knowledge, tighten preseason buying plans and get their teams ready for the first warm-weather rush.

That’s exactly what the Drag Specialties Louisville NVP Product Expo delivered again this year. Over two packed days, January 24-25, dealers, Drag sales reps and vendors filled the Kentucky International Convention Center in downtown Louisville for hands-on product discovery, targeted education and face-to-face conversations that turn new items into confident counter recommendations. Even

with major late-January snowstorms across the Southeast, the show kept its momentum and the aisles stayed busy.

With more than 300 exhibitor booths, the expo brought together a wide mix of V-Twin parts, accessories and riding gear, plus show-only incentives designed to help dealers build smarter preseason orders. The goal is simple: give dealers clearer product stories, stronger fitment confidence and more reasons for customers to buy now instead of “thinking about it later.” Dealer attendees also received a commemorative T-shirt, and each dealership received an ICON backpack.

Education on the expo floor remained a key draw. Interactive training sessions and product-insight presentations ran throughout the day, giving dealers direct access to

brand experts and practical takeaways they can apply immediately at their stores. Participating vendor education sessions included Alpinestars, Custom Dynamics, Feuling, Ravek and Trask Performance.

In the days before the show opened, Drag Specialties sales reps completed two days of in-depth product education from a broad group of top Drag vendors. The knowledge gained during these sessions carried onto the expo floor, where the sales team introduced new products to their dealers.

Beyond the booths and training blocks, the NVP continues to feel like an annual homecoming. Dealers reconnect with reps, vendors get real-time feedback from the people selling their products, and everyone gets a clearer read on what customers are asking for as the season approaches.

Saturday night’s Meet & Greet kept that tradition rolling at the Sports & Social Club at 4th Street Live. The food, entertainment and a Supercross Anaheim 2 watch party provided an easy setting for networking and conversation away from the show floor. Giveaways and an end-of-show drawing, including a Motocross of Nations trip for two to Ernée, France, kept the “stick around” energy high. A Saturday happy hour plus food and refreshments throughout the day helped keep the pace moving from open to close.

» Looking ahead, the next NVP Expo is scheduled for Milwaukee. Talk with your Drag Specialties sales rep for details on attending, planning and getting the most from the education sessions and show-floor opportunities.

DRAG SPECIALTIES SALES REP AND DEALER TRAIN ING

Each NVP Product Expo is hands-on and education-driven for Drag Specialties dealers and sales reps alike. Along with an up-close look at the latest V-Twin parts, accessories and riding gear, the weekend is anchored by focused vendor training that helps reps and dealers turn new products into confident recommendations. Before the show floor opens, Drag reps complete two days of first-hand product presentations, sharpening their understanding of key features, fitment and brand priorities. Once the doors open, dealers can dive deeper through on-floor training sessions with select vendors. Dennis Johnson and Todd Olson photos

Functional Upgrades

Solid Footing and Engine Protection for V-Twins

That Harley-Davidson in your customer’s garage isn’t just a mode of transportation; it’s a way of life. THRASHIN’ Supply knows how important bikes are to their owners, because they’re riders too, so the company focuses on parts that not only heighten a Harley’s appearance, but also its function. And sometimes, their safety and durability, too. The Aggressor Foot Control lineup and Carbon Fiber Skid Plate are two items that improve operation while adding a dose of style to your client’s bike.

The THRASHIN’ Aggressor Foot Controls are designed to provide maximum traction, so your customer’s boots won’t slip when the pace picks up. The entire lineup, which includes floorboards, mini boards, footpegs, and brake and shifter pads, all feature stainless steel cleats that stick to boot and shoe soles. The added grip gives your customers improved feel and control, whether they’re attacking corners or just cruising across town.

“These parts are designed for your customers’ HarleyDavidsons, and they’re milled from 6061 billet aluminum and offered in anodized gold, black, red and chrome,” says THRASHIN’ owner Lance Coury. The lineup includes the Aggressor Floorboards, Mini Floorboards, and Foot Pegs,

so your customers can choose the size that suits their bike and riding style.

The full-size Floorboards use THRASHIN’s 12-inch by 4½inch foot-shaped platform and have 24 stainless cleats per board, which means there’s no risk of slipping on these decks, no matter how forceful the input. Super-detailed milling leaves these boards with an attractive stepped taper, and the thin overall design helps increase cornering clearance on Touring models such as the Road Glide, Road King and Street Glide.

Moving down the size scale and into models like the Dyna, FXR, Softail and Sportster, the Mini Floorboards provide a smaller platform that still has outstanding grip thanks to 20 cleats per floorboard. These Mini Floorboards measure 4¾ inches long by 3½ inches wide and have a cutaway design that boosts cornering clearance. The Minis also work well as passenger pegs on Touring models. The Aggressor Footpegs are an even smaller option for maximum maneuverability, and measure 3½ inches wide by 2¼ inches long while still offering 12 cleats per footpeg.

THRASHIN’ also has a matching Brake Pad, Brake Pedal, and Shifter Tip to round out the setup for maximum

The THRASHIN’ Aggressor Foot Controls are designed to provide maximum traction, so your customer’s boots won’t slip during spirited riding. The entire lineup features stainless steel cleats that stick to boot and shoe soles.

grip and style. The Brake Pad works with the OEM Touring brake arm, while the Aggressor Brake Arm Pedal is specifically designed to work with THRASHIN’s Adjustable Bagger Brake Arm. Finally, there’s the Aggressor Shifter Tip, with its cleats on top for downshifts and a smooth surface on the bottom to preserve boots and shoes during upshifts.

Just like a boot slipping while transitioning into a turn could really mess up a rider’s day, flying road debris can bring down 2024 and newer Road Glide and Street Glides by damaging the plastic water-pump housing, hose spigots, or electrical connectors that are exposed and vulnerable on the engine’s underside. That’s why THRASHIN’ developed the Carbon Fiber Skid Plate, which can help stave off disaster while adding some tasty looking carbon to your customers’ bikes.

The Skid Plate offers critical protection to the plastic water-pump housing, plastic hose spigots, rubber coolant hoses, and various delicate electrical connectors on the underside of the engine. These components are just inches from the pavement and all the debris that gets kicked up off the road.

“We noticed how exposed those parts were as soon as we got our ’24 in,” says THRASHIN’s Design Engineer, Juan Arceo.

“And then when a customer emailed to say that their water pump got damaged hundreds of miles from home, ruining their road trip, we knew we had to do something about it.”

The result is a component that’s as beautiful as it is effective. There’s an 11½-inch by 11½-inch plate of real carbon fiber shielding the underside of the engine, and it’s available in a high-gloss full-weave or matte forged option. Both approaches provide the same protection to vital components, and feature stylized cutouts for venting and drainage plus the iconic TSC thunderbolt logo. Anodized, billet-aluminum brackets hold the plate in place, and the whole assembly installs in minutes.

Your customers’ 2024 and newer Road Glides and Street Glides may have a major vulnerability, but THRASHIN’ has an easy and attractive solution. Likewise, the Aggressor Foot Control lineup looks amazing while also improving grip and cornering clearance. It’s a win-win, and these parts are just the beginning. ■

In a city built on spectacle, Main Street Moto wins loyalty the old-fashioned way: precision wrenching, real relationships, and a shop floor where horsepower and handmade art share the same spotlight.

That formula for the Drag Specialties dealer is no gimmick.

Just north of the Stratosphere in Las Vegas’ fast-rising Arts District, Tara Pierce and Steve McAnulty have built a 7,700-square-foot operation that blends boutique service, performance expertise, and a community-first culture into one distinctly Vegas motorcycle destination.

“We’re a boutique full-service motorcycle shop,” says Tara. “I like to describe us as part motorcycle shop and part art gallery. It’s really a unique model when compared to your corporate dealerships or shops that are strictly about service.

“With the art, we partner with various local artists. For instance, I have one artist I work with where we supply our old junk parts, and he makes these wild creations – a lot of them being moving or animated – that we have on display and that he also sells at galleries like The Venetian. It’s just so neat to look at these incredible pieces of art that came from our discarded parts.”

Adds Steve, “With the motorcycles, we’re keen on delivering quality services and customer relations, which I feel goes a long way in this industry.”

A HISTORY OF MOTORCYCLES

Both Tara and Steve grew up with a love for motorcycles.

“I grew up in New York in a family with a history in East Coast speedway racing in the 1970s, so motorcycles were always at the core of my family,” Tara explains. “I’ve always just loved the culture, the people, the stories and the adventures.”

“My first love for motorcycles came when I first started riding little 1980s dirt bikes at about 10 years old,” Steve recalls from his youth in Niagara Falls, N.Y. “Since then, I have had bikes my entire life.”

Steve began his work life in the automotive industry, working as a master technician for most of his early career, until in 2007 he finally followed his passion for motorcycles and opened up a dyno-tuning shop. It was called Las Vegas Dyno Tech and was located in a commercial area within the Las Vegas Motor Speedway complex.

Located in Las Vegas’ popular Arts District, Drag Specialties dealership Main Street Moto has built its reputation on high-quality service and impeccable customer relations.

MOTORCYCLES & MASTERPIECES

“Ultimately, while I was tuning sportbikes and race bikes, I figured out that the money was in the Harleys,” Steve says. “So, I started to get really proficient in Harley tuning and did that for a bunch of years before we opened up Main Street Moto.”

Despite growing up within 45 minutes of each other in New York, Tara and Steve didn’t meet until a chance introduction in Las Vegas.

“We had a mutual friend who introduced us at a track day,” Tara says. “I rode my Buell Lightning out there to see what was going on and our friend literally introduced Steve to me as ‘the last mechanic you’ll ever need to know.’ Lo and behold, here we are almost 20 years later.”

After studying business and marketing in college, Tara was living a corporate lifestyle. “And that was ‘OK,’ but I wanted to somehow blend that with my passion for motorcycles,” she says.

Soon enough, Tara and Steve became a team.

LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION

While Tara and Steve enjoyed the business opportunities at the Speedway, they had out-grown their space and decided to find a property closer to the Las Vegas metro area.

“We didn’t want to move into a cookie-cutter strip-mall type of shop and wanted something that was unique,” Tara notes.

“We had already been scouting locations for a couple of years, but many of the buildings weren’t well-kept and had old owners who weren’t wanting to invest in them. Then, we just happened to be driving up Main Street one Sunday for breakfast and saw a ‘For Lease’ sign on the building that we’re currently occupying.

“The downtown area of Las Vegas that we’re located in is called the Arts District. Nobody used to want to come down here unless they were coming for some nefarious reason, but it has changed quite a bit with investment and redevelopment.”

Built in the 1950s, the 3,800-square-foot building on a 7,700-square-foot corner lot was dilapidated and needed work, but the bones were good and it fit the style and aesthetic the two were going for. Renovating took six to eight months, with many 18-hour days as they continued to also operate the shop at the Speedway.

Main Street Moto celebrated its grand opening in October 2015.

THE BUSINESS Service and parts sales account for more than 80 percent of Main Street Moto’s revenue.

“The service department takes up half of the building’s space,” Steve says. “I have four lifts, all of the toolboxes, a mini

machine shop with lathes and mills and welders … all of the equipment. Then, opposite the equipment, I have my parts wall that’s covered in Drag Specialties product.

“Outside, we have a fenced-in open lot that’s another 2,000 square feet or so. I have my dyno booth out in the back, and we park the service bikes there during the day.”

Steve says Main Street Moto has a consistent rotation of 30 to 40 motorcycles in for service, and that his average local client seeks either maintenance services or performance work.

“I do a lot of engine performance work here; a lot of engine upgrades, especially with these new M8s out now, everybody is chasing that horsepower number,” he says. “Other than that, camshafts, handlebars, brakes, wheels, tires … we get the entire spectrum.”

While the majority of the work is on American V-Twins, the shop also does work on a fair number of metric and vintage bikes. “But we’re not brand-exclusive, we’re brand inclusive,” Tara says. “A lot of our customers own multiple bikes, and so they want a shop that they can trust and has the knowledge to work on any of their motorcycles without having to run around to different shops and not know who is going to be wrenching on their bike.”

Case in point: “I’ll be working on a guy’s Harley, and the next bike he’ll bring me is his desert enduro,” Steve adds.

As for motorcycle sales, Main Street Moto typically has five to 10 bikes available, remaining selective in their offerings because of limited floor space.

“With most of these bikes, we’re simply helping existing customers sell their bikes because we know the history and are confident in selling them off to new customers,” Tara says.

What does it take to run Main Street Moto?

“A great team of six full-time employees as well as some different partners and vendor contractors that are kind of extensions of our team,” Tara says. “Including Steve and I, we have four techs, a parts and service advisor, and a shop journeyman.

“I also have to give a shout out to Penny ‘FXR’ Osiecki who helps with events and vendor partnerships, and Kristen ‘Lady Lassen’ Lassen who helps with our social media and content development.”

Main Street Moto has a big focus on service, including performance work. The store's service department mostly handles American V-Twins, a spectrum that includes vintage iron.

COMMUNITY-BUILDING

Main Street Moto has a 4.7 Google rating with 273 reviews. What earns them those high marks?

“It’s all about building relationships,” Tara explains.

While word-of-mouth has been a big driver in growing the business, Tara says social media and event production also prove highly beneficial. “We do a variety of different series on social media, things like ‘Ask A Tech’ or a ‘Couples Who Ride’ series to really be able to connect with folks,” she says.

“Now we’ve had customers who come in who ‘know us’ just from watching our videos and learning about who we are and what we do. So that’s a pretty neat thing.

“We’re also always doing events. We have been holding a monthly bike night in the Arts District every third Friday for the last 15 years. It started as a one-off vintage bike night birthday celebration for Steve, but has grown to become an event where we have different monthly themes that celebrate the motorcycle community.

“Back in October we took part in Bagger Racing League events when the BRL Finals were in Vegas, which was pretty rad,” she adds. “Then during the past two years we’ve also hosted a motorcycle industry gathering during the AIMExpo.

So that’s always fun to get the V-Twin industry together, put faces to brands, and in a casual way reconnect and form new connections.”

How do Drag Specialties and its vendors aid Main Street Moto’s business?

“Between the product support, the tech support and the relationships, they really make a great partner in this business,”

Tara says. “Their web ordering system is best-in-industry, but the quality products coming from the quality vendors that we can put our name behind is really important. Especially when we’re working on such a wide variety and types of bikes.”

Drag Specialties sales rep James “Woody” Wood services Main Street Moto.

“Woody is great,” says Steve. “He is really on top of his knowledge of the product. If he gets brand new products in that are just hitting the catalog, he’ll bring them into me and explain to me really proficiently what the part is, what the part does and what its advantages are. So, he’s great about giving me that insider info quickly so that I’ll know which parts I’m going to be putting into these bikes, especially some of this newer higher horsepower stuff.”

As their go-to sales rep and Drag products source, Woody is invaluable. Steve adds that even if Woody doesn’t immediately have the answer, he’ll connect them with the vendor in question for the inside scoop.

“Steve and Tara have built something genuinely special; equal parts craftsmanship, culture and community in the heart of the Arts District,” says Woody. “I’m grateful to work with them, not just because they run an outstanding shop, but because the relationship has grown beyond business; they’ve become true friends. That same care shows up in their customer service and the unique Main Street Moto vibe, part shop and part gallery, matched by the quality they deliver on every bike.” ■

That wall of Drag Specialties-branded products reflects Main Street Moto's longtime partnership with the distributor. Co-owner Steve McAnulty says that his Drag rep James "Woody" Wood is not only an invaluable source, but is also a good friend.

Fit for a King A Luxe Touring Seat for Maximum Comfort

Built for Harley-Davidson Touring models, Saddlemen’s widest RoadSofa King yet delivers plush, mile-munching comfort with a 17½-inch driver seat and generous 15-inch passenger support. It features Saddlemen’s Gel-Core Technology for max comfort.

Touring just got more comfortable with the arrival of Saddlemen’s new RoadSofa King seat. A bigger version of the company’s popular RoadSofa, this seat takes comfort to a whole new level.

Designed for Harley-Davidson Touring models, the RoadSofa King is the widest version of the RoadSofa that Saddlemen has offered yet. The driver’s seat has a plush 17½ inches of width, while passengers get nearly as much, with a 15-inch-wide seat to make a long day in the saddle a breeze. By beating their own record for driver and passenger seat width, the team at Saddlemen have set their bar for comfort even higher.

While that wide seating area adds to comfort and support, additional design details of the RoadSofa King help give a rider a great stance while both on the go and at rest. The streamlined nose of the seat clears away bulk so it’s easier for feet to reach the ground. Another perk for the

driver is the tall lumbar area, which provides outstanding lower back support while also giving the RoadSofa King a distinctive look.

One particularly notable feature of the RoadSofa King is its split-cushion design, which separates the driver’s seating surface from the lumbar support. At a glance, this looks like a simple design choice, but its benefits go far beyond looks. The split-cushion design helps reduce tailbone and back pressure, and it can help reduce the numbing effect that some seats produce. Just one small design feature can result in a rider getting in a lot more miles on the road without any discomfort.

Riders who are looking for customizable comfort on their Touring bike will appreciate the backrest option for the RoadSofa King. This version of the seat comes equipped with a removable driver backrest that adjusts forward, backward and vertically. That adjustability allows the

Saddlemen’s RoadSofa King combines a streamlined nose, tall lumbar, split-cushion support and Gel-Core Technology to cut pressure points, road shock and vibration, helping riders stay more comfortable for longer than stock foam.

rider to find just the right configuration for their ideal riding setup.

Saddlemen has long maintained a close relationship with its customers in order to know what riders want and what trends are showing up in the V-Twin segment. By collecting feedback and incorporating it into seat designs, the team at Saddlemen has been able to consistently give riders exactly what they want.

“For years now, when our team is at Sturgis and other rallies, an increasing number of riders have told us they wanted something bigger, wider, and even more plush.

The RoadSofa King was developed for those riders,” says Nick O’Kane, Saddlemen’s Vice President of Marketing.

Another thing Saddlemen provides customers is a variety of choices when it comes to the final look of a seat. The RoadSofa King is available in standard and LS Lattice Stitch versions, and there are eight different stitch colors to choose from. In addition to incredible comfort, riders also get the seat that best suits their style and color preferences. This kind of variety goes right along with Saddlemen’s Custom Seat Program, which is a way for riders to further customize select Saddlemen seats, including the RoadSofa. Dealers have access to a simple form, and they can note the rider’s preference for seat, stitch style, stitch color and other elements. Then, the form is simply submitted to Drag Specialties like any other order.

As one would expect from a Saddlemen seat, especially one bearing the RoadSofa name, the RoadSofa King is constructed with Saddlemen’s proprietary SaddleGel and ProFoam. Known collectively as Gel-Core Technology, these internal features reduce tailbone pressure, increasing circulation and comfort. Gel-Core Technology can be found in both the driver and passenger seating areas.

SaddleGel is at the heart of Gel-Core Technology, which is engineered to dampen, divert and deflect energy from the road. A Saddlemen seat, such as the RoadSofa King, is designed to conform to the rider’s body, reducing pressure points and eliminating the hot spots that cause discomfort. According to Saddlemen’s on-the-road and in-house R&D, a seat with Gel-Core Technology enables a rider to comfortably stay on the road up to 400 percent longer than a stock foam seat. It also generates up to 92 percent less road shock and 50 percent less road vibration.

Gel-Core Technology is paired with Pro-Foam to shape a Saddlemen seat. This specially designed foam is focused on both durability and comfort. During the molding stage, the foam undergoes a self-skinning process that seals the foam, making it resistant to the elements, including water ■

Rolling Forward Talking Tires at Louisville NVP

Even a snowstorm couldn’t dampen the optimism in the Metzler booth at Louisville NVP. The feedback about the brand’s tires as well as the general outlook for the powersports industry meant the Metzeler team went home (albeit delayed, thanks to the weather) feeling positive about 2026.

Metzeler had its full range of tires on display at the show, including its V-Twin staples, the Metzeler CRUISETEC and ME 888 MARATHON ULTRA tires. Dealers were eager to have conversations about both of those tire offerings.

Metzeler Marketing Manager Joseph Lee explains, “CRUISETEC continues to be a standout in our V-Twin lineup because it delivers what Cruiser and Bagger riders actually want: confident handling, consistent performance throughout the tire’s life and that smooth, planted feel whether they’re carving through twisties or logging highway miles. Dealers told us their customers appreciate that CRUISETEC doesn’t force them to compromise between performance and mileage.”

While the Metzeler CRUISETEC tire is one of the latest in the V-Twin lineup, the ME 888 MARATHON ULTRA is an established tire that continues to be a favorite among riders.

“Dealers know they can count on it for customers who prioritize long-haul durability, and that trust translates directly into repeat business,” says Lee. “Overall, the trend we’re seeing is that V-Twin riders today want more from their tires, and dealers appreciate having a lineup that meets those expectations.”

The opportunity to talk directly with dealers at shows like Louisville NVP, Lee says, makes a big difference. Not only does it bolster relationships between suppliers and dealers, but it can ultimately lead to a better experience for the rider, too

“For us, that direct feedback keeps us closely connected to the riding community and shapes everything from product development to how we support our dealer partners,” says Lee. “For dealers, the value is knowing they have a direct line to us. They can ask questions, share ideas and walk away confident that we’re listening. Events like NVP strengthen those relationships, and in this industry, strong relationships are what keep riders coming back to the same shop and the same brands.”

Heading into 2026, Lee stated, “Dealers know there’s work to do, but they’re ready to do it. At Metzeler, we’re here to support them and help riders follow their passion all season long.” ■

Lighting Options for Newer Models

Dfeedback and the energy was contagious. We’re thrilled with the response, and we’ve got even more exciting things in store for 2026!”

The 2025-2026 Softails got some electrical updates, which meant the team at Custom Dynamics had the task of developing plug-and-play solutions for those changes. The result is a robust selection of products.

Custom Dynamics offers its LED turn signal inserts in two styles for the Softail. The ProBEAM style turn signals include a built-in halo for a bright, modern look. Plus, Softail riders can now opt for the Genesis 4 solid-cluster LED turn signals, which are a more traditional LED design.

Up front, there are several Custom Dynamics upgrades for the 2025-2026 Softail models. The brand’s popular Shark Demon LED headlight lends a distinct off-road vibe to the setup, while accent lighting can be found in the way of fairing vent lights and the LED windshield trim. The lowprofile performance front turn signals give a modern look and include both a running light and a contrasting amber turn signal.

ealers at Louisville NVP were treated to a peek at the latest range of Custom Dynamics lighting products, and 2025-26 Harley-Davidson Softail options were the focal point. Between updated fitments of existing Softail products and brand-new options, Custom Dynamics offers plenty of ways to upgrade the lighting on these latest Softail models.

“The winter weather wasn’t the only thing people at Louisville NVP were talking about!” says Custom Dynamics Chief Sales Officer Rob Bluma. “Our new product lineup, especially what we’re offering for the latest Softail models, created a real buzz on the floor. Dealers gave us fantastic

For the rear turn signals, Softail riders can opt to install the Smart Triple Play run, brake and turn module. This plug-and-play solution installs quickly underneath the seat, and it enables the factory rear turn signal to provide a constant-on running light, a full-intensity brake light, and a full-contrast turn signal flash. Plus, the module includes built-in brake flash and strobe patterns. These features help boost visibility, all while looking sleek and modern.

Riders who want to take the style of the rear up a notch can go one step further by replacing the factory baseplate and turn signals with the all-in-one Custom Dynamics taillight baseplate. The baseplate eliminates the factory rear turn signals and gives the fender a streamlined look that’s ready to be paired with compatible integrated taillights.

“Staying on top of the latest technology and industry developments is the engine behind our success as a brand,” notes Bluma. “It allows us to push boundaries, meet our customers’ evolving needs and consistently deliver innovative products that set us apart.” ■

Flare Hand Guards Deliver Style and Comfort

Stand-out style, simple installation, rider-focused functionality and broad fitment; these are the characteristics of an impulse purchase product that should be displayed at your counter or on your site. These traits also happen to describe Klock Werks’ latest addition to its lineup, Flare® hand guards for Harley-Davidsons.

mile road trip all the way to Newfoundland through pouring rain and high winds and they performed flawlessly,” he said. “Not only did they deflect the rain right over my hands, but they took the abuse of me slamming my helmet on top of them at every rest stop because that’s where I leave my helmet. Definitely five stars for me.”

Unveiled at the 2025 Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, Flare hand guards have quickly found their place as a natural complement to the iconic Flare windshield, or a welcome addition to almost any Harley on the road. Flare windshields push turbulent air, bugs and rain up and over riders, while the Flare hand guards follow suit by widening the pocket of air keeping it away from riders’ hands and ramping up comfort on every ride.

What’s more impressive is the span of color and tint options. From a massive range of Klock Werks ‘Kolors’ to various shades of tint and striking ‘Ice’ finishes, your customers will find an option that fits their bike’s custom style.

Klock Werks leverages highquality materials and U.S. manufacturing to achieve its durability and eye-catching look. Klassic tint options are constructed from highly durable polycarbonate, while Ice and Kolor options are made from premium acrylic, and are designed to deliver the pop of color that riders are looking for.

Flare hand guards present a big add-on sales opportunity any dealer should take advantage of, especially before the holiday gifting season. The initial early success is a testament to Klock Werks’ focus on listening to fellow riders’ requests.

“We focus on stepping into markets we have been driven to by request from our customers, but not without plenty of research and diligence to design [great] air management solutions,” said Brian Klock. “The consumers that first adopted the Flare hand guards were amazed at how they work in conjunction with the original Flare windshield designs. That makes me smile as we work hard to provide [great] form and function. This one has been like starting fresh with Flare® Windshields back in 2007 and it’s fun!”

Checking all the boxes from style to function is important for Harley accessories. Whether riders are dialing in their bike themselves, or loved ones are looking for a gift that stands out, Flare hand guards are an easy choice, with fitment availability for most Harleys from 1982 to 2025. ■

Ready to Strike Production Upgrades for an Iconic Tire

Boasting a snakeskin design, white sidewalls and a classic Cruiser look, the Avon Cobra tire range has established itself as an icon in the world of V-Twins. The classic tire begins a new chapter in its decades-long history with updated production for the Cobra Chrome tires.

Avon Tyres introduced the Cobra Chrome tire as a modern version of the classic Cobra option. It still has the same design cues that have made the Cobra tire a perennial favorite among V-Twin riders, but it’s now paired with advanced technologies for excellent durability, performance and wet-weather stability.

Following Avon’s integration into Goodyear’s motorcycle brand portfolio four years ago, the decision was made to move production of the Cobra Chrome to Goodyear’s state-of-the-art production facility in Montluçon, France. The site is the same one that produces Dunlop’s premium road tires as well as its renowned racing tires.

Avon’s Cobra Chrome tire has 14 whitewall options. The tires feature a new rubber compound developed at the company’s new production facility in Montluçon, France. The new formulation has increased resistance to discoloration, making sure that classic has a long life.

Don Argento, Manager Motorcycle Sales & Marketing North America, explains, “To bring Avon production in line with Goodyear’s standards for quality and performance, the Cobra Chrome range has been extensively re-engineered. Montluçon’s role in this revival has been crucial.”

However, the switch to the new facility required some serious work before production of the new whitewall Cobra Chrome tires could get underway. The manufacturing processes had to be tailored to the tire, especially since many of the tire’s sizes were new to the site. Extensive engineering resulted in an improved production process that, in turn, yields better tires. The Cobra Chrome tires benefit from improved tire uniformity, higher yields, better rider ergonomics and production quality.

In addition to tire sizes, the other challenge in bringing the Cobra Chrome production to France was the whitewall design that some of the tire options have. A whitewall tire is a classic Cruiser look, and a new white rubber compound was developed at the same time as the move to the new production facility. This compound improves resistance to discoloration, and its application is now a more automated process to ensure a consistent, premium finish for every tire.

Now, the Cobra Chrome tire is Avon’s flagship product for Cruisers as well as custom motorcycles. There are 77 different options, which includes not just a wide range of sizes but 14 white sidewall options, as well.

“Whitewall tires are a defining element of Avon’s heritage and remain a distinctive choice for riders of custom and Cruiser-style motorcycles,” says Argento. “We are proud to see this iconic design resume in full production.” ■

Get That Glow Up Customizable Lighting Systems

When the sun sets and the streets go dark, customers are often left only with the glow of their headlights and the moon reflecting off the chrome. Unless, of course, their bike is equipped with Ciro’s Shock® & Awe EVOLVED™ lighting kit.

Roughly 10 years ago, Ciro launched the first iteration of its accent lighting system. Through technological advancements, customer feedback and design improvements, Ciro is proud to launch the newest evolution of Shock & Awe.

Named appropriately, Shock & Awe EVOLVED is Ciro’s ultimate underglow lighting kit for motorcycles and so much more. “While we designed this product for touring motorcycles, this is a universal product that will fit on anything with a 12V power source,” says Ciro’s Shawn Andersen. “Cruisers, metric bikes, trikes, golf carts, side-by-sides, interiors and much more – Shock & Awe EVOLVED is all around our greatest evolution to date for underglow lighting.”

Shock

kit, delivering universal 12V fitment, plug-n-play integration, animated presets, full customization, and dynamic music or speed-synced lighting.

EVOLVED is the brightest accent lighting kit Ciro has made yet. Out of the box, it comes with convenient animation presets, including chase animations that can be fine-tuned in speed, muti-layer color and style. More presets include breathe, flash, constant, heartbeat, twinkle, and even a work light. If you don’t think that’s enough, Ciro also made plug-n-play turn and brake signal integration with a model-specific harness.

Customers want to create their own animations? No problem. The possibilities are wide open with full customization of each preset or the option to build one completely from scratch. In addition, animations can be assigned to power-on and start-up only, or even synced dynamically with music or riding speed.

All this functionality (and more) is conveniently controlled through the Ciro Central Hub app. Customers can access all features through an intuitive interface without the hassle of a separate control device. Once they have their favorite animation and settings dialed in, they can save them under different light show profiles, set custom lighting zones, and even color match via their phone’s camera.

Ciro’s Shock & Awe

lighting kit features everything needed for a quick and clean installation.

Each Shock & Awe EVOLVED kit includes all the lighting, wiring and mounting supplies needed to complete a clean installation, but is cleverly designed to be expandable for those that want to add even more light to other areas of their bike.

More light, you say? That’s where Ciro’s optional kits and harnesses can make this system better by adding turn and brake signal function with a plug-n-play wiring harness, saddlebag light extensions, fork illuminators, coil cover and LED kit for Road Glide headlights. Each one can be added individually or all at once so your customers can choose how big of a statement they want to make.

Ciro’s game-changing lighting technology is backed by durability with thick gauge wire, watertight connections, and its three-year / LED limited lifetime warranty. ■

Ride Connected Performance with Peace of Mind

From the team known for maximizing V-Twin performance through a motorcycle’s air, fuel and exhaust systems, Vance & Hines says its *(EMIS Code 2) FPX with TRAK is not only an intuitive ECU tuner for Harley-Davidson motorcycles but also is the company’s next evolution in “connected riding.”

With its Bluetooth-enabled, app-driven technology, FPX with TRAK lets riders manage their motorcycle’s tune directly from a mobile device. Users can view live sensor data, read and clear trouble codes, and access technical support through the app. Vance & Hines also says the system helps keep the bike’s factory warranty intact.

“The FPX with TRAK is set to revolutionize how we look at ourselves and our motorcycles,” says Robert Martinez, Vance & Hines Sales Manager. “Taking our data collection systems from racing and applying them to street scenarios allows riders to refine their techniques in certain situations. I’m excited to see how consumers make use of this new technology to foster competition amongst their friends and other riders all over the world.”

The FPX with TRAK offers an easy plug-and-play connection for most 2014-2020 models for your techs and customers via an Android or iOS smartphone app. Once installed, it’s easy to dial in the correct map and start enjoying the device’s improved performance, navigation, detection, deterrent and tracking features.

Vance & Hines positions FPX with TRAK as more than a tuner. It combines quick, smartphone-based flash tuning

with a library of in-house dyno-developed maps, giving riders a fast way to dial in fuel mapping, throttle response and other settings for their specific setup.

The system also blends performance and ride data with GPS, so riders can review live information in context –whether they’re on the track or carving a favorite back road. Built-in turn-by-turn navigation helps keep attention on the road, while the live data overlay puts key readouts like RPM, engine temperature and air-fuel ratio right on the screen.

FPX with TRAK also adds practical ownership features beyond performance. Through the app, riders can use anti-theft functions that help prevent unauthorized starting, set a customizable service tracker with maintenance intervals based on their bike and riding habits and, in the event of a crash, enable impact detection that can alert emergency contacts with the rider’s location.

Vance & Hines FPX with TRAK applications are available for Dyna, Pan America, Softail, Sportster, Street and Touring models. ■

Instant Gratification A Tire Dealer Program with Immediate Rewards

This year’s AIMExpo was a busy one for the team at Bridgestone thanks to the tire manufacturer’s launch of the new APEX Dealer Program. Designed as a straightforward program to support dealers, there are no stocking minimums and plenty of incentives.

The APEX Dealer Program is ideal for dealers who want a hassle-free way to be rewarded for driving sell-through.

“Once dealers sign up on our program, that’s it!” assures Jim Dowell, National Sales and Racing Manager for Bridgestone Motorcycle. “No special reporting or stocking minimums are required from our dealers. All they need to do is buy Bridgestone motorcycle tires from Authorized Bridgestone distributors, and they will begin to receive their incentives.”

In other words, ordering Bridgestone tires from Drag Specialties is still every bit as easy as it was before, but now, there are extra perks to the process. In fact, once a dealer signs up, they start earning with all tires purchased

With Bridgestone’s new APEX Dealer Program, Drag Specialties dealers have a hassle-free way to earn incentives just by buying any of the company’s broad range of motorcycle tires.

in the month of activation, regardless of the sign-up date. So, if you’re reading this halfway through the month, you can still sign up and get credit for every Bridgestone tire ordered since the 1st

After signup, the perks accrue quickly.

“We pay dealers on a monthly basis when they earn incentives,” Dowell says, “and immediately after their first purchase as an APEX dealer, they receive their dealer POP Kit. This includes a floor mat, window cling, counter mat and welcome booklet.”

Those tools will help sell more Bridgestone tires and keep the ordering process moving swiftly. The rewards will stack up, and there is no earnings threshold. Bridgestone has an extra incentive for Q1 of this year, which is $5 back on all motorcycle tires purchased through March 31, 2026.

Dowell says the response from dealers at AIMExpo was overwhelmingly positive, especially since the APEX Dealer Program is so straightforward. Plus, most dealers are already familiar with the benefits of working with Bridgestone thanks to the brand’s other programs, including Bridgestone Moto University+Rewards.

The Bridgestone name itself is one that is already wellknown and proven, from racetracks to the streets. That instant brand awareness and trust only add to the value of the APEX Dealer Program.

“Bridgestone motorcycle tires are designed and built in Japan, and they’re backed by decades of performance know-how developed at the highest levels of racing – from motocross to road racing,” Dowell notes. “That technology and learning are built into our lineup, so dealers can match riders with a premium tire whether they’re looking for race-level grip, confident everyday performance or long-distance touring comfort.” ■

A Full Range of Braking Components

There are a lot of parts that need to be in good working order when it comes to a motorcycle’s brakes. Whether a bike needs a simple parts swap, like a new caliper, or a completely new brake setup, Drag Specialties has the part for the job, providing outstanding quality without the OEM price tag. Drag Specialties has virtually everything needed for a brake setup, from the rotors and calipers down to the smallest parts, like caliper brackets. One of the newest options in the vast lineup is a rear caliper for 2015-2017 Harley-Davidson Softails. Like other OEM-style calipers by Drag Specialties, this version for the Softail accepts the OEM bolts, retainer and other components, and any necessary mounting hardware is included. Just one part number gets the swap done.

For Drag Specialties, that convenience is just as important as the quality of its braking products and the variety of options available. “We continually want to offer customers a full range of quality replacement brake calipers, rotors and all the other necessary components at a fair price!” notes Drag’s Tom Motzko.

And when Motzko says, “full range,” he doesn’t just mean the braking components themselves, but the wide range of applications, as well. While there is the expected array of brake components for newer models, there are also plenty of options available for older bikes, from OEM-style rotors and calipers to parts like the chrome rear caliper bracket, which adds a pop of style.

That chrome option is just one of many aesthetically minded brake options from Drag Specialties. In addition to OEM replacement options for calipers, rotors and other components, Drag Specialties also has choices for those

riders who want their braking setup to be a style statement as well as a functional part of the bike.

Riders can opt to go for a dramatic look with the Custom 11½-inch front rotor or a polished stainless steel drilled brake rotor. Drag Specialties makes rotors like these available for most models, and they’ll work with OEM as well as aftermarket calipers.

While something like a shiny polish is about looks, these brake rotors are also designed to offer reliable performance. The rotors are drilled for better heat dissipation, and they’re designed to maintain a consistent braking feel even in wet weather. ■

Engineered Airflow Unlock Power with the Assault Charge Air Cleaner

Trask Performance knows power. So, for the latemodel Harley-Davidson M8 Softail and Touring models equipped with larger throttle bodies, the company has developed the *(EMIS Code 3) Assault Charge Air Cleaner for 68mm throttle bodies.

The higher-flow engines on those select 2024-2025 FL and 2025 Softail models demand more air, and the new model Assault Charge Air Cleaner delivers the breathing room needed to tap into their performance potential.

At the core of the Assault Charge is Trask’s magnetic velocity stack paired with a large-format, high-capacity filter. Together, they move air efficiently into the engine, improving throttle response and strengthening midrange pull. Testing has shown gains of approximately 8 horsepower, along with a noticeable improvement in overall rideability that customers feel immediately.

“With all the big-inch Gen 2 M8 engines being built now, supplying enough air is critical,” says Trask founder and owner Nick Trask. “As more riders upgrade to the larger 68mm throttle body, the intake system has to keep up. That’s why we offer our high-flow Assault Charge intake designed specifically to bolt up to the new 68mm throttle body fitment.”

The billet aluminum backing plate features a concealed, integrated breather system for a clean, direct replacement of the stock air cleaner. Every component is engineered to work as a complete system, delivering consistent airflow, durability and long-term reliability. Installation is straightforward and requires no modification, making it an easy upgrade to recommend and install.

Visually, the Assault Charge carries the aggressive, mechanical look Trask is known for. The exposed filter, billet construction and visible velocity stack reinforce its performance intent while maintaining a clean, purposeful appearance on the bike.

For customers running the 68mm throttle body, the Assault Charge Air Cleaner is an effective way to unlock improved airflow, sharper response and measurable performance gains in a single, well-engineered package. ■

Going fast requires stopping fast, so Performance Machine offers all of the braking power for roadgoing Harley-Davidson motorcycles that was once reserved for bikes found on the racetrack.

Performance Machine’s Race Series Monobloc Caliper for Softail, Sportster, Touring and V-Rod motorcycles features

four large diameter pistons combined with the extra rigidity of a differential bore monobloc caliper body born from a single piece of solid billet aluminum. Designed for 11.8-inch rotors, the caliper – available in left or right versions – is compatible with ABS and non-ABS brakes as well as both OEM or aftermarket master cylinders.

Machined billet bore caps add a clean finishing touch. The calipers are available in black or clear anodized finishes with a laser-engraved Performance Machine logo, matching the style to the performance upgrade.

Performance Machine says the Race Series Monobloc Caliper provides a staggering 20 percent increase in stopping power over OEM units. “From 60 mph to a dead stop, that 20 percent equates to a 7-foot to 10-foot decrease in stopping distance,” says David Nissen, Sr. Sales Manager. “In an emergency situation, this decrease in stopping distance could save your life.” ■

New Front and Rear Solo Seats

Installing a solo seat gives a bike an instant classic look. The solo seat never goes out of style, and now, Drag Specialties Seats has new options for Touring/Dresser riders who want to go it alone or have the option to take along a passenger.

With the new Drag Seats solo seat with an optional EZ Glide II Backrest and two solo rear seat options, riders have added flexibility when it comes to the seat configuration.

The new solo seat and two rear seats are all made from a molded polyurethane foam for outstanding comfort and styling. That foam is topped by a high-quality, automotive-grade vinyl cover. Underneath, the 3/16-inch ABS thermoformed seat base ensures a perfect fit on the bike, while the carpeted bottom and rubber bumpers provide a protective barrier between the seat and the bike’s paint job. The wide range of fitments aren’t just for newer bikes; plenty of older-model applications can be found in the OldBook.

And, like every product available from Drag Specialties Seats, these new solo seat options are made in the USA.

The new solo seat has a deep 5½ inches of driver back support for plenty of comfort on the road, and the unique styling keeps this solo seat from being boring. The optional EZ Glide II backrest is available in both small and large sizes, and it further adds to a rider’s comfort.

In addition to the backrest, the new solo seat is also compatible with the narrow and wide solo rear seats that are now available from Drag Specialties Seats. These rear seat options work with FL solo front seats that feature plug-in

backrests. A big perk of this setup is that it’s quick and easy to go from a single-rider setup to a two-up configuration.

“Many riders enjoy the nice clean look of our solo front if they are riding alone, but then they can easily add the rear pad any time they have a passenger,” says Garen Altman, Drag Specialties Seats. “Another cool benefit is the narrow or wide pad can be stored in their saddlebag for easy access.”

Riders who want to upgrade their seat can opt for Drag’s exclusive Solar Leather cover. “The major benefit of that, unlike other seats, is it doesn’t get as hot in the sun,” Altman explains. “We like to say it is like parking your bike in the shade.”

Drag Specialties Seats offers Touring/Dresser solo seats and pads to suit a wide range of different models as well as riders’ varying tastes. These newest options add to the already robust list of possibilities. ■

More Than Just Rubber Injection-Molded

Patterns Riders Can Feel

features that classic waffle sole pattern in a grip that installs securely without the need for glue or safety wire. Customers will appreciate the stylish design and the miles of comfort the grips bring to a build.

ODI builds grips, handlebars and throttle tubes with a manufacturing-first mindset, putting its processes on display instead of couching them behind marketing claims. That transparency matters to dealers and riders alike because it’s how ODI backs up fit, finish and consistency across applications.

“We develop and manufacture ODI products in our own facility in the U.S.,” says Johnny Jump of ODI. “Whether for Harley-Davidson motorcycles or motocross bikes, we are proud of our processes because we know they help us make better products for all of your customers.”

Let’s look at ODI’s motorcycle grips for V-Twins. Manufactured with a specialized injection-molding process at its facility in Riverside, California, ODI creates grips including the Ruffian, Vans and Hart-Luck Signature Waffle grip. The company starts with its own proprietary thermoplastic rubber compounds. ODI then blends the compound in different durometers (hardness levels) to achieve specific levels of comfort and durability.

The injection-molding process involves heating the raw material and injecting it into precision-machined steel molds. That creates the complex patterns that riders can select for the feel they want, whether that’s the classic Vans waffle pattern or the tighter diamond-knurl pattern of the

center section to give riders added comfort and vibration damping.

Out of the injection molding, the grips head toward cooling and extraction. Here, ODI employees often use air nozzles to assist in sliding the freshly made grips off the tooling dowels, a hands-on process that is just part of the quality control and finish work.

“The process and the materials are very important to ODI,” says Jump. “We are committed to the highest standards of manufacturing quality. And that includes using the right materials. We keep strong relationships with our suppliers to maintain product quality.”

It takes more than injection-molded rubber to make highquality grips. With the Lock-On system, ODI grips are molded directly onto a plastic throttle tube or a clutch-side sleeve. The patented Lock-On system eliminates the need for glue or safety wire, using a single-bolt clamp to secure the grip.

The ODI manufacturing process also includes components like aluminum-reinforced ends or carbon fiber reinforcements to prevent “grip blowout” during crashes ■

Upgrades from the Proven Performance Pros

otorcyclists love power gains. Upping horsepower and torque is a favored hobby of Harley-Davidson riders in particular. But if you could ask the motorcycle’s components – clutch basket and primary chain and related hardware –how they feel about increased power output, they’d say, “Hey, feeling a little stressed over here!”

Okay, riders don’t talk to their bike’s parts (they won’t admit to it anyway). And they don’t need to. They just need to know that, as the knee bone is connected to the thigh bone, increasing power in one area can require increasing strength of connected areas. And the strong will survive.

To handle the demands of upgraded horsepower and torque in Harley-Davidson models with the MilwaukeeEight engine, S&S Cycle has engineered solutions to improve durability and rider peace of mind.

Start with the S&S Cycle Compensator Ramp. “For this direct replacement for the stock component on HarleyDavidson M8 models, we take 9000-series steel to our CNC machines,” says Howard Kelly of S&S Cycle. Then S&S gives the ramp a heat treatment and coating for additional strength as well as corrosion resistance.

S&S covers all the details, too, with a Compensator Bolt Kit that is more durable and engineered to be reusable. The chromoly steel bolt is precision machined and features rolled threads, not cut threads. Rolled threads can handle the stress; they’re up to 30 percent stronger than cut threads. And it’s all made in America.

S&S also engineered a Clutch Basket specifically for M8 high performance and durability. This clutch basket aids riders with smoother actuation and better ability to handle

basket delivers smoother actuation, better high-power durability, improved lever feel and consistent long-term performance. The clutch basket is compatible with all OEMfit clutch packs, as well as the Rekluse TorqDrive systems.

higher power. It is machined from solid billet aluminum and incorporates patent-pending stainless-steel wear-liner inserts. Riders will notice a smoother lever feel right away, as well as more consistent performance over time.

The clutch basket features carbon-steel threaded inserts for integrity, and it’s fully compatible with all OEM-fit clutch packs, as well as the Rekluse TorqDrive systems. S&S tested this component at the dragstrip, and it’s rated for 200+ lb-ft of torque.

The lifeline of strength in this performance package is the S&S Cycle Heavy-Duty Primary Chain. “This is a direct replacement for the OEM chain, and the primary chain is 11% stronger and lasts longer under the stress of a high-torque big twin,” adds Kelly. Its component parts are heat-treated and engineered for reduced stretching. That means less chain maintenance and more time riding. ■

Modular Makeover A Helmet Designed for Modern Riders

The crossover was inevitable. As the V-Twin scene has welcomed increasingly performance-minded models and mods, riders have begun to demand gear that reflects their more aggressive style of riding. ICON has responded with the Threshold helmet, a functional modular helmet with the styling and features one expects in a performance lid.

The Threshold was on display at Louisville NVP, where dealers were excited to check out the first modular helmet from ICON. Response was enthusiastic, and V-Twin dealers now have a helmet option that’s perfect for that set of riders who enjoy pushing their bike to its limits.

for speed and performance, all while offering strength and comfort.

“Modular helmets have long been designed around Touring and upright riding, and that never reflected how a lot of us actually ride day to day,” notes Whitaker.

“At ICON we wanted a modular helmet that felt fast, intentional and performance driven. The Threshold brings ICON’s design language into that space with sharper lines, tighter proportions and an aerodynamic stance that feels active even when the bike is parked.”

V-Twin riders get the practicality of a modular helmet without compromising comfort, performance or visibility. The fog-free shield keeps the view ahead clear, while an internal dark smoke Threshold Dropshield makes day-tonight riding easy.

Once the purview of touring riders, modular helmets are appreciated for their practicality and protection. Now ICON has upped the ante by adding aggressive styling along with that comfort and protection.

“Harley-Davidsons and performance cruisers are no longer just about long highway miles,” says ICON Senior Designer John Whitaker. “The newer generation of Cruiser riders is riding harder and pushing limits, whether that’s stunting, drifting, racing or spending time in underground scenes and parking lot sessions. That’s the environment the ICON Cruiser customer comes from, and it’s the mindset the Threshold was designed for.”

The chin bar of the Threshold flips up at the touch of a button, allowing a rider to grab a quick sip, have a conversation or just get some fresh air while taking a break from the road. At the same time, though, the Threshold’s composite fiberglass shell has the lines of a helmet designed

The Threshold has oversized intake vents and exhaust ports, so there’s plenty of air flowing through the EPS liner. And, for those hotter rides, the Hydradry comfort liner helps wick moisture away from the rider’s face and head to keep things cool and dry.

For riders who want to stay connected on the go, the Threshold is designed to accept ICON’s Helmlink Bluetooth communication system, too. That makes it easy to do everything from streaming music to chatting with other riders. ■

Fine Fenders

Stylish and Sturdy Bodywork Upgrades

Imagine your customers asking an AI program, “Does my Indian Chieftain need an aftermarket front fender?” Sounds ridiculous, but it happens. And when it does happen the AI bot says something stupid like, “That motorcycle’s stock front fender does perform adequately in a functional sense.” Functional is good for robots.

Smart motorcyclists will come to their Drag dealer for smarter answers. Discerning motorcyclists want powerful style, not adequate performance. They want quality American manufacturing that fits with precision and improves their ride. They want fenders like those manufactured by RWD V-Twin.

The Southern California manufacturer creates fenders, including the Retro Front Steel USA fender for Indian Challenger and Chieftain using 14-gauge steel which they stamp and straighten in house for fit perfection. And the 19-inch Retro fender is a ready-to-roll direct bolt-on part that sits ideally with the front tire.

“With all our V-Twin fenders, we include machined aluminum spacers to finish the fit and ease installation,” said RWD owner, Dustin Boyko. “And right at our factory in Southern California, we hand straightens each fender to guarantee the proper fit.”

RWD also has Retro fenders for most Harley-Davidson models, including Touring bikes, as well as the Dyna, FXR and Sportster models. The manufacturer’s Retro fender is also available for 21-inch wheels on Harley-Davidson Touring bikes.

RWD V-Twin makes wrapper-style fenders, including the LS-2 which hugs a Harley-Davidson’s tire and wraps around the back of the front tire for a clean look, and the LS-3 which is a wrapper with a more classic look on the front side of the fender.

If your Harley-Davidson owners want other options, RWD makes the Flatback fender that is right at home on Viclastyle Harley-Davidson builds. Or they can consider RWD’s OCF fender, a classic that is rounded on both the front and back sides. Or maybe they want the EZ-8, an 18-inch fender for fat tire builds up to 200mm wide. RWD provides paint-ready fenders that require no bodywork, ensuring a smooth and hassle-free installation.

From the sporty Retro fender designed for performance enthusiasts to the large 30-inch fenders for rides with bigger wheels, RWD V-Twin has an extensive fender line that serves the wants and needs of American V-Twin riders. They’re complete with mounting kits and are designed for precision, style and a proper fit. ■

RWD V-Twin’s new Retro steel front fender for Indian Challengers and Chieftains features beefy 14-gauge steel and is ready to bolt-on for an instant style upgrade.

Locked In A Seat Built for a Stunt Showdown

Bringing younger riders into motorcycling is something that has been discussed plenty of times in recent years, and sometimes, that means making products that appeal to that younger demographic. Since its inception, Slyfox has been doing just that, and the new Highnoon seat cements the company’s stance on ushering in the next generation of V-Twin riders.

The 2-up Highnoon seat features a tall driver support of up to 7 inches and a contoured seating area for maximum comfort. The unique lines of the bike aren’t just about aesthetics and comfort, though.

“The biggest feature the riders like is its high lumbar back support, so it keeps the riders locked in and helps give them more confidence,” says Slyfox founder Alex Fox. “It’s a purpose-built seat for an aggressive rider who’s trying to hone their skills.”

Fox also notes that younger riders were asking for a seat like this. With his own background in sports like skateboarding and snowboarding, Fox naturally found himself around the stunting and drift crowd, and a seat like the

In fact, the Highnoon will be put through its paces in this season’s Slyde GP, a motorcycle obstacle course competition that Fox is spearheading. “Not only am I marketing my brand, but I’m having a good time doing it,” he says. And, maybe, that’s another way the powersports industry can cater to younger riders: It needs more fun, and Slyde GP is bringing it.

While fun is important, Fox is also a competitor at heart. “Slyfox from the very beginning was a race-oriented brand,” he says. “We competed in the first-ever Bagger race in the world. With racing it’s always about light weight and performance.”

The ABS thermoformed seat base offers a perfect fit on the bike, and both it and the molded flexible urethane foam up top result in a lightweight seat. “With racing emerging and brands being performance-based, weight matters,” Fox says. “We’re very proud of our seats. It’s a premium seat, quality built and made in the USA. The fact they’re so light is the cherry on top.”

While everything produced by Slyfox is geared toward performance, Fox is also quick to note that the company’s products aren’t exclusively for younger riders. There’s a lot to love about the Highnoon seat for riders of every age, like its bold lines and comfortable seat.

If anyone needs proof that Slyfox isn’t just for the younger, more adventurous riders, the company unveiled a new Touring seat at Louisville NVP. The Chariot is designed for long-distance comfort for both rider and passenger. ■

Transmission Upgrades and Overhaul Essentials

Most people can do a handful of things reasonably well, or one thing exceptionally well. Baker Drivetrain falls into the latter. Harley-Davidson drivetrains, and transmission components in particular, are the company’s sole focus, and the result is complete transmissions and replacement parts that are a cut above.

The product that put Baker Drivetrain on the map is its OD6 (Overdrive 6-Speed) for early Big Twins. Born from Bert Baker’s own desire for better gearing on his big-inch custom, the OD6 provides better acceleration in first through fifth thanks to tighter ratios, with a tall sixth for relaxed cruising and better gas mileage. “I remember the first time I shifted from fifth to sixth gear out on the road,” recalls Bert. “The vibration reduction was just the sweetest thing.”

Baker’s DD7 (Direct Drive 7-Speed) offers similar benefits for 6-speed bikes, including a lower first gear, closer ratios and reduced internal inertia for smoother, quieter and more posi tive shifts. Additional features include a lighter shift drum with tighter tolerances and improved ramp angles, fully machined and chrome-plated shift forks, stronger billet pillow blocks and a redundant neutral feature. All of these features combine to enhance the overall riding experience.

While complete transmission gearsets are appealing, your cus tomers can integrate some engineering and improvements into their 1936 and later Big Twin models. Several upgraded compo nents are available such as kicker gears, shift drums, shift forks, shifter pawls, complete rebuild kits, and more.

The first generation 5-speed ratchet pawl featured a scissor spring design that presented opportunities for improved long-term reli ability within the transmission. Baker’s Anti-Overshift Ratchet Pawl uses a modern rectangular cross-section spring that’s stronger and more durable. The assembly reduces shifter free play and makes shifts smoother. More importantly, it improves durability and prevents damage in 1980-2006 5-Speed Big Twins.

As the product that put Baker Drivetrain on the map, the OD6 6-speed delivers tighter first-to-fifth ratios for stronger acceleration, plus a tall sixth for relaxed, fuel-saving cruising.

Baker 5-speed shift forks offer several improvements over the OEM parts, including billet steel construction with a hard chromed finish for maximum durability. The cross section is three times thicker, adding additional rigidity for more precise shifts. The forks are available in a complete set for 1980-2006 5-speed Big Twins.

When it comes to refreshing the gearbox on your customers’ Harleys, Baker Drivetrain offers everything from individual replacement bearings to comprehensive rebuild kits complete with seals, gaskets, bearings, snap rings, and more. ■

Custom Headlight Bezels Style Extended

Craftsmanship combined with passion and experience creates timeless design in so many cases. Such is the case with Headwinds, a name that carries a legacy in the V-Twin world (and music, too, just ask founder Joel) and veteran manufacturer of custom lighting components.

From motorcycles to street rods to big rigs, Headwinds has been designing and creating custom flair through lighting for over 30 years. Headwinds components can be seen on the road across the United States, concentrating on products like headlight housings, mounts, turn signals and bezels, to name a few.

Bezels are a simple change that can make a big difference. Swapping out bezels is a fairly straightforward job because Headwinds has done all the hard work already, especially with its extended 7-inch headlight bezels. Featured in January’s Drag Specialties Skinny, these bezels are designed and built with clean, custom looks and undeniable durability.

Headwinds’ Mariah Rocket headlight housing is another lighting option. It features an iconic rocket cone shape that makes it look fast even while standing still. Available in black and chrome.

Headwinds offers a range of extended headlight bezels, offering your customers a simple upgrade that pays big style dividends. They come in chrome or black finishes.

Four different style options are ready to bolt up to Road Kings, Electra Glides, Street Glides and more including Mariah, Vampire, Raven and Vista.

Each bezel style has subtle shape and size differences that refine the look of customers’ motorcycles in a big way. Mariah and Vampire bezels extend out 5 inches with a traditional rounded visor across the top. Raven and Vista bezels have a shorter, tapered visor just under 4 inches. Each option is available in chrome or black finishes, giving your customers a plethora of choices to fine tune the look they’re after.

Headwinds pays careful attention to the engineering behind its bezels, not just for the finished look, but for refined fitment as well. Each of these 7-inch bezels replace the OEM headlight trim ring and mount against stock nacelles or fairings using supplied hardware. The screw on mounting design with a locking set screw keeps things secure and ready for countless miles of headwinds down the highway.

Of course, the range of bezels for 7-inch headlights only scratches the surface of what Headwinds has to offer. Another lighting upgrade popular among riders is Headwinds’ Mariah Rocket housings. These 5¾-inch diameter housings boast the iconic rocket cone shape with a rounded visor, ready to accept the lamp and mounts of customers’ choosing. Also available in black or chrome, Mariah Rocket housings make a statement on everything from OEM upgrades to complete custom builds. ■

GBrakes’ carbon ceramic hybrid pads take braking power and temperature resistance to the extreme level. These are designed strictly for track use and are race-tested and race-proven.

Regardless of compound, most Gbrakes’ brake pads are manufactured with NUCAPS technology, integrating hooks into the backing plate for an extra layer of insurance for riders at every level. ■

Whipping Up a New Seat Color

ost V-Twin parts come in a variety of colors these days, with the exception of seats.

LePera Motorcycle Seats is helping shake things up by offering its popular TailWhip seat in a brown distressed option, with fitments for HarleyDavidson LowRiders and 2008-current Baggers.

“We’re stoked to offer the TailWhip in brown, giving customers a color option beyond black without requiring a custom seat order or added wait time,” says Christine LePera. “It lets them choose a look that fits their style and ride with no delay.”

This version of the TailWhip features a gorgeous material that looks like much-loved leather. Double Diamond black stitching and a black back support panel add a pop of contrast. By making the back support area a different color, it draws attention to what makes the TailWhip such a standout design. The “whipped-up” tail adds comfort for both the rider’s back and the passenger, while also looking great on the bike.

The seat was popular at Louisville NVP, and LePera notes, “The time spent with both dealers and reps made the trip well

worth it. The conversations were productive, and the overall turnout exceeded our expectations despite the weather.”

The TailWhip in brown distressed is also available in the Daddy Long Legs configuration, which pushes the rider 2 inches back. Both versions are made from LePera’s specially formulated high-density Marathon molded foam on top of a 16-guage powder coated steel baseplate. ■

Performance Pumps

Improving Oil Flow for Milwaukee-Eights

AFeuling’s range of oil pumps for MilwaukeeEight engines are a great performance upgrade option.

mong Feuling Parts’ latest additions to its product line-up are new OE+ oil pumps for Milwaukee-Eight engines, with fitments for oilcooled and water-cooled models.

Feuling’s oil pump line consists of OE+, HP+, and Race Series product for good/better/best results.

The HP+ and Race Series oil pumps require Feuling’s high-flow cam plate due to the increased oil pump gear

sizing and larger kidney shapes responsible for the increased volume and flow.

Made of billet 6061 aluminum, Feuling OE+ stock replacement oil pumps deliver increased oil pressure and return scavenge volumes over the factory oil pumps by using larger 2-inch pressure gerotors and larger 2¼-inch scavenge gerotors along with properly sized passages. Oil pressure is also increased by the use of a precision-machined pressure relief valve which is seated and sealed to a minimum of 30 psi with full pop off at 55-65 psi.

“The competitively priced OE+ product line is a great cost-effective fix for the problematic 2017-2019 oil pumps and an upgrade for 2020 and newer models,” says Luke Leatherman, president, Feuling Parts. “These OE+ oil pumps are a great performance option for those running a factory stock cam plate and or other aftermarket stock replacement cam plates like the Feuling OE+ Cam plate.” ■

Different Strokes

Purpose-Built Brake Pads

Harley-Davidson designs motorcycles for specific purposes including various riding styles, terrain and customer preferences. Each bike that rolls off the line is engineered for its specified environ ment, and EBC takes the same approach with its brake pads.

“We have more purpose-built motorcycles than ever in the market, which is why we feel it’s important to serve riders brake pad options that perform well and inspire confidence specific to their style and bike,” said Joshua Russell from EBC.

EBC covers this spectrum with its organic (FA), semisintered (V) and double-H sintered (HH) brake pad options.

Harley’s new-gen street performance cruisers, the Nightster and Sportster S, for example, can be fitted with EBC’s organic or semi-sintered pads for a smooth and consistent feel with positive braking feedback. However, riders pushing the true capabilities of these bikes can turn to HH pads for bigger braking power.

X series bikes (X350/X440/X500) from Harley are built to be lighter and more agile, making them well-suited for

the strong bite and fade resistance of EBC’s HH pads as well. The benefits of HH pads carry over to Harley’s electric cousins as well, providing the stopping power needed with the instant torque of LiveWire S2 models.

Versatility doesn’t end there. Pan America customers can choose from EBC’s full range of pads, too, to match how serious their level of adventure is going to be. ■

EBC offers a range of brake pads, making sure that no matter what your customer riders, there’s a brake pad to fit their style and purpose.

Light on the Lever Easier Clutch

AControl for More Comfort

Both the Power Clutch and Hydro Clutch reduce the force required to engage the clutch lever. With the Power Clutch, that reduction is up to 45 percent less than the stock clutch requires. For Twin Cam bikes, the Hydro Clutch results in a 35 percent reduction in force required to engage the clutch lever.

Another benefit of both products is that idle lever travel is reduced to make clutching smoother and more predictable.

“Having a comfortable, high-performance clutch means longer, more enjoyable rides. Your muscles don’t fatigue, and you arrive at your destination relaxed, every time,” says company board member Fabian Müller.

The more a rider is required to use the clutch, the more the benefit of having a Power Clutch or Hydro Clutch can be felt. Fingers and hands stay relaxed and free from cramps or stiffness, even when navigating congested traffic. ■

nyone who has been in slow traffic on a motorcycle knows the misery of a fatigued clutch hand. The ache from repeatedly engaging a clutch lever can be a thing of the past by installing a Power or Hydro Clutch from Müller Motorcycle. The Hydro Clutch is designed for Harley-Davidson Twin Cam and M8 models with a hydraulic clutch. The Power Clutch for Big Twins and Sportsters, plus the Power Clutch 2.0 for M8 models, are ideal for bikes with a mechanical clutch.
