Dr James Frizzell is based in Canada and has spent more than 20 years owning and operating Frizzell Dental, a family cosmetic and dental practice Through this practice, he provides dental services to patients from Niagara Falls, Ontario, as well as the surrounding communities of Welland, St Catharines, and Niagara-on-the-Lake In addition to his clinical work, he is involved in education and advocacy related to the identification and prevention of abuse and human trafficking His professional work reflects a combination of dental care, public education, and community engagement
Education
He attended the University of Toronto, where he completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Organic and Inorganic Chemistry After finishing his undergraduate studies, Dr James continued his education at the same university and earned a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. While studying in the Department of Chemistry, he received an NSERC scholarship His research during that time was carried out under the supervision of a professor, and the results of this work, along with research from colleagues, were published in the Journal of Organometallic Chemistry
In 1997, he continued his academic development at FaithWay Baptist College in Ajax, Ontario, where he earned a Master’s degree in Biblical Studies. His interest in learning continued over the years, and he later pursued specialized training in dental forensics In 2019, he earned a degree in Dental Forensics from McGill University.
Alongside these formal degrees, Frizzell has completed many additional courses throughout his career. These courses have included mental health and suicide skill training, digital crime scene photography, a civil litigation workshop, strangulation prevention training, and other educational programs These studies have helped him expand his understanding of healthcare, forensic science, and social concerns connected to patient wellbeing.

At Frizzell Dental, he works with a team that offers a variety of dental services designed to support the oral health of patients of different ages The practice provides dental hygiene care, restorative dentistry, cosmetic teeth whitening, emergency dental services, and preventive dental care. Both adults and children are welcome at the clinic, and the practice focuses on providing treatment in a comfortable environment supported by modern procedures and updated equipment
Preventive care is an important part of the services offered These services include periodontal therapy, sealants, tooth extraction, routine periodontal care, fluoride applications, and other treatments that help maintain long-term oral health. The practice also offers cosmetic dental treatments that help improve the appearance and function of patients’ teeth
Cosmetic solutions available at the clinic include a Zoom in-office whitening system, bonding procedures, tooth-colored fillings, porcelain crowns, inlays and onlays, and dental implants These treatments allow patients to address both dental health concerns and cosmetic goals.

A Military Dental Officer
In addition to his civilian dental practice, Dr. James served as a Military Dental Officer with the Canadian Forces Dental Corps for eight years During this time, part of his responsibility was ensuring that soldiers were dentally fit during the Gulf Wars. His role supported the readiness and health of military personnel The Base Commander at Cold Lake Air Base in Alberta recognized his service and contributions
Dedicated to Combating Abuse, Human Trafficking
Beyond dentistry, he has devoted significant attention to issues related to child abuse, elder abuse, human trafficking, and intimate partner violence His work in this area focuses on education, awareness, and helping professionals recognize signs that someone may be experiencing abuse
In August 2025, he published a book titled “Domestic Violence/Human Trafficking From a Canadian Perspective.” The book discusses these issues from a Canadian perspective and encourages greater awareness of their impact on individuals and communities
Frizzell is also the co-founder of Dentists United Against Human Trafficking This organization works to educate dental professionals and provide them with tools to recognize potential signs of trafficking in their patients. The organization focuses on increasing awareness in the dental community and promoting training that helps clinicians identify warning signs that may indicate a patient could be a victim of trafficking
Dental teams often interact closely with patients during treatment, which may allow them to observe injuries or behavioral signs that could suggest abuse or exploitation. Through education and outreach, he helps highlight the role dental professionals can play in recognizing these warning signs and supporting individuals who may need help
In January 2026, he and a colleague published an article titled “What’s Happening in Ontario: Child Abuse Recognition and Reporting” in the Oral Health Journal In addition to this work, he serves as a Human Trafficking Consultant for Crime Stoppers Niagara, where he contributes insights on prevention and awareness
Online Presentations, Podcasts
Dr. James regularly gives presentations and participates in online discussions related to mental health, domestic violence, and human trafficking Healthcare professionals, including forensic nurses and other practitioners, often invite him to share knowledge and insight on these topics.
His presentations and podcasts address subjects such as “Child Abuse Recognition and Reporting,” “Domestic Violence,” “Human Trafficking Victims: Recognition and Reaction,” “The Forensics of Suicide,” “Identifying Intraoral & Extraoral Signs of Child Abuse,” and “Cannabis Addiction and Consequences.” Through these discussions, he helps professionals better understand how to identify warning signs and respond appropriately
His knowledge in forensic dentistry also includes experience in bruising and bitemark analysis Because of this expertise, he has been asked to serve as a witness in court cases that require forensic dental evaluation.
Association Membership
He has been a member of the ASFO, the American Society of Forensic Odontology, for the last seven years. He is also a member of the International Association of Forensic Nurses. These memberships support continued learning and professional collaboration in forensic and healthcare-related fields.
Volunteer Work
Frizzell is involved in several volunteer and community activities In addition to serving as a consultant for Crime Stoppers Niagara, he also volunteers to help raise funds for the organization Each summer, he donates to and meets with temporary grape orchard workers from Mexico and Cuba
He also participates in visits to nursing homes, where he sings hymns with residents during singing-along gatherings. Earlier in his career, from 2010 to 2011, he operated a charity dental clinic in Guadalajara, Mexico, providing dental services to individuals in need.
Personal Life
He was born in Toronto and later settled in Niagara Falls with his family. He lives there with his wife, Sharon, and their three children When he has free time, he enjoys musky fishing in the upper Niagara River Through his continued efforts in dentistry, education, and community involvement, Dr. James Frizzell remains committed to patient care and public awareness.
