Dear Class of 2030 students, parents and family,
I imagine it is difficult for you to believe that in less than a month, you will be beginning your first term at DePauw. You may feel very hopeful for your future and excited, yet perhaps also a bit nervous as you begin a new stage in your life's journey.
I am sure you are very busy finalizing checklist items, preparing for the start of your DePauw experience and, for some, starting to say goodbyes to family and friends. I know this can be a great deal to juggle, but the most important thing to know is that there are numerous campus resources and partners available to help you transition to and journey through your time at DePauw.
Transitioning to college does require a lot of steps, and a lot of information will come your way. It is OK if you have questions, and you should feel comfortable reaching out to our staff on campus throughout this transition. Our teams are here to assist you throughout this transition, so reaching out when you need clarification will also prepare you to do the same once you are here on campus as full-time students.

OPENING DAY
We invite you to join us for some key events when you move in on Saturday, August 15. You should arrive at your residence hall during your designated move-in time. Families should plan to leave campus at 5:30 p.m. so that you can begin orientation. Please note that all parts of orientation are required. Look for a complete schedule of orientation events on the First-Year Experience webpage, https://www.depauw.edu/studentaffairs/new-students/ fallorientation/
Please note that certain programs will have approved pre-arrival dates. Information on specific programs will be shared with students who qualify.
MOVE-IN DAY SCHEDULE
8 - 11:30 a.m. Check in, and students move into their residence hall
11 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. Community lunch
2 p.m. Students assemble for Opening Convocation processional
2:30 p.m. Opening Convocation
3:30 p.m. Student meeting with faculty advisors
3:30 p.m. Parent and Family Orientation
4:30 - 5:30 p.m. Families can use this time to say goodbyes. Families should plan to depart by 5:45 p.m. so students can promptly begin student orientation activities.

Arts and Humanities (2 credits)
These courses explore fundamental questions of experience, belief, and expression. Through critical observation, textual analysis, and creative engagement, students consider the realms recalled or imagined in the arts, history, literature, philosophy, and religion. Students in these courses practice close reading, looking, and/or listening and engage in theoretical and critical thinking, discussion, and analytical writing.
Science and Mathematics (2 credits)
These courses explore the physical, mechanical, and quantitative working of numbers, matter, and life. Through observation, experimentation, and scientific and mathematical reasoning, students in these courses seek to comprehend the world and model its operations. They learn about the natural, behavioral, or computational sciences in the classroom and the laboratory.
Social Sciences (2 credits)
These courses explore cultural, economic, political, and social questions. Through observational, comparative, and analytic methods, students in these courses seek to understand human identities and interactions at the personal, local, and global levels. Students will learn the theories, values, and beliefs under those social structures, and learn to compare, analyze, and interpret them, applying theories to understand their world.
Intercultural Engagement through Language (2 credits)
Courses in this area allow students to enter into global and local conversations about topics in a wide range of disciplines while building their proficiency in a language other than English. Meaningful engagement with languages and cultures outside of the English-speaking world is essential for ethical, global citizenship and is an increasingly valued skill set for the workforce. Students may continue with a language they have studied or explore a new language.
Global Learning (1 credit)
Courses with an emphasis in global learning engage students in the politics, society, religion, history, and/or arts of a culture outside the United States or address how different societies respond to inherently global issues such as climate change, pandemics, and political and economic upheaval. This requirement can also be fulfilled through a DePauw -approved study abroad experience, and international students fulfill this requirement through their study at DePauw.
Power, Privilege, and Diversity (1 credit)
These courses analyze the interplay of power and privilege in human interactions in a U.S. context. Given the history of the United States, and the continued impact of this history, every PPD course will substantially engage with anti-Black racism and/or with the genocide, forced removal, and other injustices inflicted on Indigenous peoples. Every PPD course will also explore opportunities to work toward positive change.

Transact
DePauw has contracted with Transact Campus to provide student account e-commerce services. This includes electronic issuance of student account statements, the ability to make payments by a bank account, a credit/debit card, 529 Plan or foreign currency. Transact Payments also gives the ability to participate in an installment payment plan, and a view of recent activity.
Students to grant parents or other authorized users access to make payments, view payment history, and account balances.
